Hi guys,
Have anyone experienced their SIP (keyboard/letter recog/block recog/transcriber) slow to change after installing VC1.5?
Try this: tap the little triangle next to the SIP in the middle of the bar and change it to something else. Say u're using keyboard, click the triangle and change to transcriber. How long does it take to change? Mine takes about 3 seconds! (by counting 1001, 1002...).
VC1.5 is definitely the culprit, as I just did a hard reset, and my SIP change takes only 1 s.
Strangely, the 1st time I upgraded to WM5.0 (I'm using Xda2 & WM5.0 1.60C, btw), the SIP change was slow. Then after sev months, I hard reset and the SIP change was fast. 2 days ago, I hard reset again, and now it's slow again.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi folks,
I've noticed a weird problem on my new Jam over the last couple of days. Sometimes when entering text e.g email, text msg, instant messenger etc.. if I select the Phone Pad option a blank screen appears. If I then choose Keypad the same blank screen appears.
Performing a soft-reset clears the problem as has occasionally closing all windows and starting again.
Has anyone else experienced this ??
Regards,
Russ.
I have exactly the same problem!
The problem only happens when changing between Intellipad and another input method.
A couple of people are experiencing the same thing, but they're attributing the problem to Microsoft Voice Command 1.5 (which I don't have),
I have made Intellipad my default Input method, so I can type sms' if I have to, but the moment I change to another input method (Fitaly), I'm stuck with the non-intellipad methods. If I try to select Intellipad, I lose all input methods, getting the blank box, which only a soft reset will cure.
HI!
I have been facing the same problem too. The blank screen appears and only a soft reset does the trick. At times when I try switching between the keyboard and phoen pad....the phone pad does not come on and it remains stuck on the keyboard.....and again only a soft reset makes it work.

This may be premature, but my problem seems to have disappeared..
Yesterday I downloaded and ran Sin's WM 2003SE 2.02 and 2.06 combined update on my XDA II (after having run Mysteryman's update since it came out), and it *looks* like the problem is gone..
And I get proper headset support thrown in to boot! Yay!
Software crash
I had this problem before when I was using my XDA2.. (WM2003SE upgraded)
So far i can think of, the reason might be a software crash.. on mine is pocketbreeze..
hard reset your device, don't install anything, see how it goes. If its working, install 1 software per week, and see which software is causing this..
now i'm using mini and haven't install pocketbreeze, and haven't lost the phone pad for 3 days!
hope it helps..

Maybe you are right as I have installed PocketBreeze too on my Mini and maybe it is a software conflict between that and windows.
I think I finally found a solution...
On my MDA2 (XDA2) I have installed Microsoft Voice Command 1.5 and I think this is causing problems with the Intellipad (Phonepad) application. To fix this you only need to disable VC from the Settings screen (uncheck Voice Command), once you do that, you will be able to get your Intellipad functional again (as long as you don't get the empty keyboard, in which case you need to soft-reset).
If I'm on the road and need Voice Command, I just click on my hardware button to call it, however, it will take a few seconds to start it up (since it was disabled) but VC it will work as usual after that.
Eventually I will get the Intellpad problem again (since VC is reactivated) and need to redo the whole VC Disable thing.
I hope this works for you....
Best regards,
Rayan
I've tried both installing and uninstalling spb pocket plus, and the enabling and disabling of voice command, and there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to the disappearance.
That being said, I have noticed that it tends to start disappearing when my "program" memory drops to around the 10mb mark. I've experimented with freeing running memory, and usually if I free around 5mb or so, it starts working again, but this is not conclusive.
I had the same prob. I installed resco keyboard and the problem went away. Strange ??

VC1.5 is definitely the culprit, as I just removed VC1.5 & it's fast again. Did a hard reset, and installed VC1.5 as my 2nd application, and sure enough, it's slow again. My 1st application was just a softreset app.
Strangely, the 1st time I upgraded to WM5.0 1.60C (I'm using Xda2, btw), the SIP change was slow. Then after several months, I hard reset and the SIP change was fast. 2 days ago, I hard reset again, and now it's slow again.

(posted this at another thread also, but maybe someone here can shed some light on this annoyance.)
When I apply a soft reset to my wizard, (T-Mobile 2.24 Beta ROM found here on the the site), the backlight settings, (battery power), reverts to turning off the backlight at 10 seconds. I can change the settings and they stick until the next soft reset. Any thoughts/hacks/fixes?
(I searched the forums and did not find this solution, so please be gentle if I am asking something I should have found...I try to read as much as possible on this wonderful site. Made a lot of improvements to my MDA through reading and learning but I could not find this one).
I have the exaxt same problem ever since I installed SPB Gprs Monitor. Any chance you also have it?
Nope, so we both have a common culprit. Either the ROM or our apps...
I have:
Registry Wizard, 1.0U
Space Reclaimer
PHM Tray
Smartskey
OmapClock
Eten Dialer
TCPMP
eReader
Sompy Weather
Magic Button
Vade Mecum
Quickreset
Anything in common? Or does anyone else know what causes this bug?
Actually, I misread your post! I don't have this problem. My settings remain after a soft reset. In my case the screen goes blank (or should I say black!) after a soft reset (backlight slider all the way to the left).
We have TCMP and omapclock in common, so I guess you can eliminate those two from your list of potential culprits to your problem
Anyone else with a comment? It's been happening to a colleague of mine as well, again, after we installed the TMobile 2.24 Beta ROM.
We've had this problem with 15 devices we purchased earlier this year - all but 2 are running the TMO USA stock ROM, the others are running the 2.21 custom ROM... but ALL of them will reset the backlight timer to 10 seconds on a soft reset.
Very, very annoying...
Have you checked the content of your \windows\startup folder? You may have some program there that does it. I had another problem with my custom today background picture disappearing afeter each reset and I found out that it was a startup ptogram (custtdstk) that did the trick
I am getting a new one soon...so we will see if that fixes things, (although my colleague will not be getting one). Did anything fix the 15 devices?
Hi , I'm having the same problem as pat12 after sleep or timeout the backlight slider is all the way to the left, has anyone found a fix for this ?
thx paparoach
UPDATE: not sure if this is the fix for everyone but I upgraded to Mr. Clean's 224a rom and now it works, I'm now reloading my apps.
I've tried wiping everything out of the startup folder, doesn't seem to help at all.
Hoping TMO fixes this with their AKU2 ROM for the MDA.
Is anyone here NOT using SPB backup and still getting the problem?
Are you sure none of you are using Goodlink? It has had a known bug that everytime the unit was reset, and the Goodlink launcher was run, it would reset the backlight to 10 seconds. It was finally fixed with client version 4.9.

I'm definately not using goodlink
That was my issue, Goodlink. I had orphaned this post but now that you mention it, since the upgrade, the issue has stopped. Thanks for the confirmation.
Same thing here - as soon as we upgraded to the 4.9 client, the backlight timeout would no longer reset.
GldRush98 has supplied the fix for this and so I've posted it here on his behalf as he replied on a seperate thread which was running for the same problem.
"The device lock feature causes this bug.
If you don't want it to do that any more you have to do 2 things.
1) Turn off device lock
2) Change the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\Locklevel\
Change the "LockLevel" value to "0".
Then your phone will remember your backlight settings again."
Once again many thanks to GldRush98
Oh wow, so in order to get rid of this bug, we have to switch off the single most important feature on the device?
There's got to be a better way...
No, instead of coming up with a sarcastic comment try it..it works! and no features are switched off
Sorry
But you do mean the Settings--Personal--Lock don't you? The one that you set a password for? If you have to disable this, first of all I won;t get any email from my Exch box any more, and 2nd someone's bound to nick it and see all the dirty txts I've got on it... deffo a case for Max Clifford!

Lately I've had problems with my QWERTY keyboard not always working. It will work fine, then one time I will pull it out and stop typing and text doesn't appear. I have to reset the device in order to get it working again. Usually when it is not working, I can use the on-screen keyboard, but this is such a hassle and much slower. There have been a couple times when that wouldn't work either.
Has anyone else noticed this issue? I've been using CRCs ROM (the first ROM I installed). If it sounds like it might be a ROM issue and not a device or WM6 issue, does anyone have any ROM recommendations? I do not need a lot of features - just the basics will do as I intend to install SPB Mobile Shell and a couple other programs anyways, but I do desire something very stable.
I have the same problem occasionally... two different ways
Sometimes the program will stop taking text input. For example while typing a text mesage the keyboard will stop working, but if I hit the windows key the start menu will still appear. I have to kill the text messaging program and re launch to regain functionality. Also happens occasionally in IE.
Other times the keyboard itself will stop working, all of the buttons. In this case I have to close the phone, power the screen off for a couple seconds, power back on, and begin typing again.
It's very strange, and very unpredictable.
<edit> I have a Cingular 8525 (1.5 years old) running Schap's 4.31 WM6 </edit>

I don't send very many text messages so I'm not sure about those, but I usually notice using IE (that is the main place where I type anything) or inputting a new contact or something like that. I'm not sure about the windows key, although I think I tested a bunch of buttons and none of them worked.
Think it is a bug in the phone or a bug in the ROM? I have no idea...I've only used one ROM so far on 8525 (I tested a bunch out on the 8125 when I had one). I'm thinking about installing Binkys11 since I hear it is fast and stable. Maybe it won't be as big of a problem then.
Note: I also have a case with a magnetic strap. I thought maybe that was messing with it since I hear the magnet could do funny things to the phone...I'm not sure though....
It seems to be kind of a hit-and-miss situation.... with more misses than hits....
I'm using Helmis AKU3.5 "final"?? rom that he did (before the "service pack") and it works amazingly... except for the fact that i'm scared sh!tless to perform a soft reset if anything locks up.
The freeze occurs after the HTC boot screen switches to the Windows Mobile loading screen (that green one)...
I have a feeling that it has something to do with the HTC home screen which has been mentioned on a forum or 2 on the net but im sick of searching.... which i love to use coz of the eye candy and has links to things i don't use... and the audio manager which i use flawlessly (sort of) with my moto-s9 BT stereo headphones with a few regedits...
But more to the point when i soft reset it freezes. And no matter how many soft resets i try.... and i have tried many (10+) soft resets during a meeting... and leaving it to load (which I have left for over 2 hours one time) to no avail... in the end i have to hard reset and restore all my settings/software.
Please let me know of any fixes to this as i would like to use the home plugin.
I have so far soft reset three times in succession during this posting with the HTC home today screen plugin disabled and have had no freezing.
Software version:
Radio: 1.30.00
Windows Mobile: 3.50.00 (Helmi's one that u dont need kitchening software for)
