Unlocked O2 XDA II using Vodafone UK sim in New York

I have an O2 XDA II which is unlocked and I have been successfully using it in the UK with a Vodafone sim which has GPRS enabled on it.
I'm now in the US for a period of time and have picked up T-Mobile as the preferred GPRS supplier that Vodafone say they have an agreement with.
The Vodafone sim has international roaming both for calls and GPRS but using the usual Vodafone APN=internet and user=web and password=web I can't get connected
Anyone else had a similar experience and solution?
Many thanks

o2 XDA Mini & 3

Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me if the XDA mini will work with a 3 Sim (Three the mobile company) once I have unlocked it, I'm not sure if its something I am doing wrong during the unlocking process or just that the handset is not compatible with the sim
Cheers
3 uses what they call a USIM rather than a SIM (it might be the real name for it I don't know)... This is 3G specific and as far as I know, won't work in anything other than a 3G phone.
Usim
I have had a look around a few sites, and some similair phones and the mini say they come with a USIM ??
hiya, yeah i have an O2 3G sim card with my mini xda.
3G - From 3
Hi Guys,
I guess the question i need the answer to is, can a 3G usim- From the UK provider Called "Three" work in an 02 XDA Mini ?
As far as I know "3" SIM cards only work in phones designated by "3"

Unable to use 3G on my TyTnII (Kaiser)

Looking for help in getting 3G services running on my TyTnII (Kaiser).
I have a Vodafone version of this device, but running on Orange Network (currently testing the device for work). I have manually setup GPRS settings for Orange network and can connect fine, phone has E for Edge when in correct area, but can not get 3G at all.
Can I assume that this is down to the phone being some how locked down to Vodafone and not letting me use the 3G network on Orange. I have another one of these devices with a Vodafone sim card, and get full 3G straight away, even the G icon appears as 3G.
Any help however relevant would really be appericated.
Thanks
Pete
i dont believe they can be locked to edge at all
maybe the orange subscription is just not umts enabled
Coming to the problem from a different direction which may help.
I have an Orange SPV M5000 which I use on an orange PAYG sim card. This has never shown 3G on the display. A couple of days ago I unlocked the phone & put in my T-Mobile PAYG simcard which I have been using on an Orange SPV M1000 (only a max of £1 a day up to 30g of downloads)and straight away it showed the 3G sign on the display, so it's possable that your simcard does not alow 3G or it needs to be enabled.
My Orange PAYG simcard needed to be GPRS enabled when I wanted to start downloading data. Hope this helps. Regards John
Thanks for your help so far.
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to say thanks for your replays so far, certainly looking like problem with Orange, rather that phone.
I have contacted Orange after finding an article on their website about using 3G and it stating that you need a 3G device and 3G sim card.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
Pete
orange does not allow 3G connections without first being enabled there end. Ive had the same problem some time ago.
I called Orange & they said I needed a new 3G sim card cost £1 which i bought. It came yesterday & i installed it & now I have the 3G symbol on the display.
Do I need to change any settings or numbers etc or are the old setings OK for 3G

As far as I know the settings that work with GPRS on Orange should just work for 3g in your case.

[Q] Orange / T Mobile

Since the merger between Orange and T Mobile, does that mean you would be able to use a T Mobile sim card in a locked Orange Hero ????
Maybe a siilly question

Not a silly question! But I don't think so, not just yet ! Call Orange, they may be able to help!
Greetings
The only thing i have noticed is that i am able to join a T-Mobile network if no not able to pick up Orange,
Now as T-Mobile has not got 3G when i am this has caused a drop in speed of the orange 3G as most of the T-Mobile users can join the Orange 3G network.
Other than that i am not sure what else can be done.
I got a text from T-Mob a few weeks ago saying if I wanted to I can now use the Orange network where available, but I have chosen not to opt in.

Man man as well opt in,
As you can turn roaming off via the phone,
But even it you dont there is no extra cost for using the other providers network,
Its the same as using your own network.
