Debugging with ActiveSync-Bluetooth, can you recommend? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi, I am developing on eVC and was trying to debug over bluetooth-activesync connection instead over bluetooth-usb. But since I have problems making activesync running with BT i wonder if it´s worth to hassle around with that some more time?
Does anyone have experience with that? I mean, should I stay with USB or is it worth changing regarding speed or something else?
Thnx

USB Phone via telnet?

My Trinity has VoIP available but nonetheless - as far as VoIP is concerned - I would like to just use it as a USB phone connected to my PC. It connects through USB so is it possible to use it as a VoIP handset?
I have already searched a bit on this topic, and have found that just using the ActiveSync connection won't do the trick since one cannot access the mic/speaker through USB, only data transfer as files or sync...
But I know of other client/server programs that do some telnet stuff over the connection, in order to transfer keystrokes, mouse and screen data. Would something similar be possible for what I have in mind? I just hope that the overhead or lag would not be too much. And I know for sure that other people would also like this feature
Anyone willing to give it a go, or know of an alternative?

Using activesync without a cradle

Hello
I'm looking for some help and advice with a problem I have with an i-mate xda2 and trying to communicate with my desktop using windows xp. Like many other owners of the xda2 the bottom connector has become completely disconnected and as a result I have been trying to set up using Activesync over Biuetooth. I have followed various tutorials on how to make this connection without sucess. I recently did a hard reset on the xda2(WM2005) and now find I do not have the options for setting up Bluetooth that I had before the hard reset-for example I cannot select serial port option-I just have the hands-free option! It may be that I need to use the cradle/USB connection before I can set up activesync over Bluetooth.
Note -the desktop and xda2 recognise each other but not using activesync.
Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

That link might help you.
However, I thought they had disabled wireless access completely with Activesync as a security measure?
Anyway, someone can correct me if I am wrong. I have never done it over bluetooth personally.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply but I'm afraid it did not help. I think my problem stems from the fact that I did a hard reset after the usb cable socket on my PPC broke off and this is stopping me getting the correct Bluetooth settings.

USB data input use on a non USB Host smartphone

Hy everyone,
First of all, thanks for this great forum which never fails to impress me.
I have a question which some of you might help answering: I'm wondering if it's possible to use the mini-usb port of my smartphone to get some data input.
Let me explain myself a bit more: I know that smartphones (HTC Touch for me) aren't USB hosts. However, the data connexions are still present.
Here's what I'd like to do: even though the smartphone can't control another peripheral, I'd like that external peripheral to send data to the smartphone, and the smartphone to use that data to control the screen. That would give an alternative way of controlling the screen.
The input would come from another touch surface, so my guess is that using the data to control the screen shouldn't be much of a problem.
So? Any idea if it's possible? What kind of platform/language would be nice to do that? C#?
(I have JAVA development experience, but I'm quite a newbie as far as Win Mobile devs are concerned. I'm willing to learn though
I think I searched this forum (and others) quite extensively before posting. If by any chance I missed a related post, I'd be glad to know about it
No ideas? Anyone?
Last up before I stop...
prob. not
i dont think that is technically possible. i think one has to be the host, and that host provides power. so to power the input device(im thinking keyboard) it would need the smartphone/ppc to be a host....
but i have no clue in this area...maybe someone could prove me wrong?
Hey, thanks for your answer.
The powering issues could be overcomed by cutting the cables and giving power from an external power source (I think several people have tried doing it, I need to find the links again). By the way, the peripheral itself is plugged on 110V, so there's plenty of available power
I'm not seeking here to "control" the device, just to aquire the signal it's sending... Does that seem feasible, or does the peripheral need to be somehow "activated" by a Host before sending anything?
Well, in order to get data, the host must ask the slave each time it needs some. Other things must be done by the host, like usb enumeration. That means there has to be a host or it won't work, unless you use usb on-the-go, but I do not know many devices that support it.
according to the qualcomm website, the msm chipsets support otg

Cable connected state

Hi there,
I'm in the process of writing a volume manager for wm6 and one thing I'm after is being able to detect whether a power cable is plugged in, or if headphones are, or whether it can detect a difference.
I'm programming for the hermes/jasjam phone but I'm hoping that the com device is the same across most devices.
I can't really find much about how to detect the cable.
Has anyone here been able to detect this?
Thanks
BUMP:
Has anyone done any development in this area?
Phonealarm (pocketmax.net) can....it can switch profiles based on whether the power cable is connected, or activesync etc. Not sure about headphones tho...
hmm, thanks for that..
Unfortunately they're unlikely to tell me how to do it given it isn't open source.
Take a look at that, and anything deeper to the topic.

[Q] android phone as a bluetooth HID

Hello guys,
I want to write an app that registers my android phone as a HID through bluetooth to my PC. I have found many descriptions how I can connect a bluetooth keyboard or mouse to an android phone but no working solution doing generally the opposite.
The most helpful so far was groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/73f03a22963b356d, but as you can see there also isn't any solution provided.
So is it currently even possible doing this with android? Could there be a way using the underlying BlueZ with the NDK?
Any hints and help would be much appreciated.
I'm currently working on something related, which is connecting an android phone to a PS3.
You can look in /system/etc/bluetooth, notably the main.conf file, in which you'll find a Device class definition. I yet have to try to change it, to see if it changes the way the device is recognized by others
Hope this will help.
