Phone list question please - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I can't seem to view the stored phone numbers and their respected names on the SIM card. Is there a setting I am missing here or do I have to retype everything to the contacts part of the PDA?
I am using an O2 XDA Exec running on corporate mode (0506).

Windows Mobile Contacts Help

Right im having so many problems with the contacts app built in. I have a couple of questions hope you can help.
1) It picks up my sim contacts but can i order them (First name last Name) instead of (Last name first name)
2) If i go too sim manager and copy the sim contacts to phone, when i go to contacts app it shows the name on the sim and then the same name on the phone so it duplicates them. Is their any way to just show the phone contacts not the sim.
For your info im using the Rom from PDamobiz.com the aku3.3 one. If this cant be done can anyone suggest a useful 3rd Party app. Thanks alot.

[Q] Porting a Phone contact list

I'm relatively new to mobile phones.
I was using a Samsung Blue Earth S7550 briefly and input a bunch of contacts into it; names, tel. numbers and photos etc.
I was under the assumption that when you take your SIM card out and put it into another phone all of your contacts remain intact on the new phone.
I made sure that the phone contacts were on both the phone and SIM card.
Now when I put the SIM into my Samsung i9000, none of the contacts are there.
Is there something I must do to get it to work?
The phone recognizes the SIM at startup.
I hope I won't have to input all that data again.
TIA
yes, they should be visible. there is an option to hide sim contacts, maybe you have inadvertently enabled that.
contacts->menu->display option->choose contacts to display "CHECK SIM"
there is a check mark in settings you can enable to read the contacts from the SIM card
or you can export it from Outlook (if you are using outlook)
then import it using one of these contact management tools

no worries. i need to import my contacts from my phone to my sim card. need mega help
Remember that there is a limit to a) number of contacts on a SIM card and b) a limit to the amount of information "per contact" on the SIM card. When I tried it from my old Nokia (E71) to transfer contacts when I first got the DHD I basically got as list of names with phone numbers. No other information. This could be enough for you I suppose.
But why not get a basic Nokia and use it's PC Suite to sync that phone with your contacts? Presuming you have them in Outlook or Google?

the basic phone i have dun not comes with a data cable nor the port thus i can only rely on my sim card.
Try something like this .... http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.shao.Copy2SIM ... I have no idea how good that app is but there are more of a similar nature.

thanks for ur help dvhttn but unfortunately i have tried tat app, it does not work.
Does the second phone have bluetooth abilites?
Open contacts, press menu, there is a option to import/export from simcard, as simple as that
If you don't have too many contacts that you need to transfer to sim then you can open each contact individually, then press menu, then save to sim.

Seems to me that as you can't take advantage of the suggestions below that your work needs to look at this and provide you with the correct tools. If that means a new phone then they should do that. It shouldn't fall on you to provide the tools of your job.

Have you tried contact2sim (by happydroid) from the market?

I always use the phone one.
Phone means that the contact will be saved in your phone's internal memory. It won't be affected if you change sims or delete your google acct.
Google means that the contact will be saved in your google acct, you can access it from anywhere.
SIM means that the contact will be saved in your SIM directory. That way, if you insert your sim in another phone, you would still have the contact's details.
By the way, i don't think it's related to android OS at all or galaxy y....please use the general forum (in General Discussion) for these...

I recommend saving to your google account.
This way all your contacts will be intact, in case you lose the SIM or brick your phone.
Also I have found that making changes to a contact using your browser interface (firefox, chrome etc) is much easier than trying to make changes on screen.
Turning on sync will ensure that your contacts are synced with your phone. If you own more than one android device, you'll get the contacts synched to all of them.
