[new release] VJKeyPress - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Guys, I've made a generic keypress app. I'm sure one exists elsewhere in the world, but I wrote mine.
It can be used to send any virtual key from the command line.
So you could set up a shortcut eg
VJKeyPress.exe 93
will show the "context menu" for the current app.
91 will show the start menu.
27 is the escape key.
Check it out on my website, www.vijay555.com
Don't forget to click on an ad or make a donation!
EDIT - 19.04.06: added -cut, -copy, -paste.
V

Great ! Very useful !
I was wondering whether it is possible to activate/desactivate the GPRS with your keypress app ? :?:

Hmm, never thought about it. Are there no hacks already around for this?
If not, stick a request on my forum on my website and I'll try to get around to it if no one else does.
V

No, never find a hack for this...
Ok, I'm going to write a request on your forum for this  thanks !

Are you looking for this app? http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33313&highlight=gprs+disconnect

cktlcmd - I don't think that's quite what he wants. He wants an executable that will disconnect from GPRS.
If no one else comes up with one, I should be able to write one.
V

Thanks for the link
Unfortunately, this is not what I'm looking for...
I'm looking for a little software that can be launch by a shortcut (or directly) in SPB Pocket+ or XBar that can activate/descativate GPRS Connexion.

Cool! Good enough for me.

Hi ViJAY555,
iam searching for a tool where i can easily copy stuff to the clipboard. I have seen this at my trial of Wisbar Advanced that i can configure each item in the taskbar to open a clipboard menu to copy and paste stuff.
Iam wondering for a long time why this is not possible also on the PDAs likley on the PC you pressing CTRL-C and CTRL-V.
The life would be much easier... I thought on your VJKEYPRESS but havent found any key for that. Maybe you know another tool whith this functionality?

topcaser: I believe the PHM Key tools includes this function.
I will be developing something to help with the clipboard, it's coming together slowly

V,
do you have a link to the phm key tools. I googles already - not with much luck.
but i think, that you will hack anyway a good solution. In my opinion having a hardware key to copy and paste things is a great added value.

Topcaser - I don't have a link with me. I think they're posted on the forum somewhere. If we get stuck, I'll post it from home later. If we get really stuck I'll make a new app
V

Guys, I've added -cut, -copy, -paste command lines.

Just tried www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/Keys/ on my Universal. Copy, Paste work fine! I use Record button for call both.
Alex

Yeah, PHM keys is better. PHM uses a weird API command that I can't get to work properly yet. Need to waste some more time on it when I get some time. But yes, PHM is definitely better for copy/paste.

What's the code for the "OK" button (Or something which would do the same thing)? It's next to the space bar on the Wizard, I couldn't see it on your site.
Many thanks.

Using the volume slider to scroll?

Hi,
I was messing with the beta of the mozilla web browser the other day (it is on the ftp site, but I wouldn't bother with it yet!) and I noticed that it let you use the volume slider to scroll the page like a scroll wheel.
Sadly in the normal apps like IE and email it just changes the volume.
Does anyone know if there is any way to make the slider act as a scroll wheel in these apps? It is a standard thing on many pocket pcs and would be wonderful if you could use it whilst reading emails.
Cheers
Marc
Yeah that would be really useful for email and webbrowsing (eg. Avantgo). Anybody know how? Might be a registry hack.
Yes there is a volume slider re-mapper. I use it on my Blue Angel. Got it off a thread on one of the forums here. Keep searching
Of course it's possible.
Here is a page where I explain how to do it but I'm sorry it's in french :?
If needed I will translate it... :?:

Hey that right, the translation isn't so bad
2 points : you've got to copy
- 'unmap_volume.exe' and 'AddHotkeys.exe' in the repertory /Windows/Start
- 'SimUp.exe' and 'SimDown.exe' in the repertory /Windows/Starting Menu/Programs
Thanks again to Mamaich
Works great! Thanks!!!
I just noticed that starting from 1.11 ROM it allows to remap up-down volume buttons for any purpose how great!
P.S. e.g. it works in Betaplayer, HaaliReader, Resco AudioRecorder
PHM Task Manager doesn't seem to kill the processes in order to uninstall AddHotkeys.exe....any suggestions?
You have to use activesync "explore" feature to change the extension to something else (eg. addhotkeys.ex1). Then, soft reset, and it will say that it can't be run. Then delete it!

Would you like to use CTRL/ALT on your Universal? :D

Hello all,
I would like to introduce a software which using CTRL/ALT key on your Universal.
Here is a link to download.
http://1942.rocketspace.net/PQz/PQz20051119_0015.zip
Espcially, It has been designed for Japanese.(IME Atok)
(I'm not sure it works or not in other languages.)
Thanks.

Tom's other 2 posts are innocuous enough, and started over a month ago, so it doesn't look like someone who registered just to post a trojan.
Tom, can you tell us if you've tried this, how it works, and where we can find a URL that lends it some cred?
Here's what I could find that might help (Jap translated page). Looks like a competition to write such a proggie:
http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?h...=50&hl=en&hs=vfu&lr=&client=opera&rls=en&sa=G
Woohoo! I found a few more Jap/Chinese pages, and developed a level of comfort that this was a competition, and that the app exists and does what Tom suggests. It's AWESOME! U get a little icon on the title bar (would like to get rid of this some time), and it changes to show ctrl and alt mode. You can set different keyboard keys to be ctrl and alt, and when u press them u can now move backwards and forwards 1-word at a time and all the other things u would expect.
Nice going Tom - sorry to have been so circumspect. We would love for you to tell us more about what those darned clever Japanese dudes are doing for the Universal.
PS: For n00bies, put this exe file in your \windows\startup folder. Right-click icon for settings. Set ctrl to be your WIN key, and Alt to be your SYM key and you're a-for-away! Uuh, on second thoughts, I've no idea what the alt key does for me, so until I figure that out I'll keep my sym key as is
PPS: Sorry VJ - you were beaten to it! No worries tho, you can focus on some of the other stuff we're all dying to see...
Woohoo! Ctrl-Q,Del,A,C,X,V I expected - but Ctrl-Z is just a big fat bonus!
Most excellent! Any chance for an "ESC" key?
Wow, that's nice!
V
Hi all,
and thank you for your interest.
Last few weeks, I've been developing this app and not finished yet.
I will write a user's guide as soon as possible.
PS.heidy
I think it not hard to implement 'ESC'.

thank you
Hi francorg,
>In the setup page:
>what do the 2 IME list do?
You might be using single byte charactor like English if you don't use IME.
We japanese have to convert from single byte charactor(alphabet) to Japanese. (Chinese/Koria are same)
Alphabet <----(IME OFF/ON)---->Japanese
The settings are used for Japanese Input.
If you don't use IME. You can choose IME [none][N O].
that the best way to you.
thank you.
brilliant - thanks!
is tough choosing which key to lose though for Ctrl.... think i'll start with CAP LOCK - i've kinda got used to using Fn, Windows, Sym etc.
but finally - i can use command-line stuff like putty properly!

Great software, great guide. Thanks!
Working while keeping the ctrl-key pressed?
Great software! Thank you for that.
To make it perfect in my eyes, it would be great, if it would work as well, as long as you keep the key pressed. I would need it to jump word by word keeping the ctrl-key pressed and moving by hitting the arrow-keys. Would that be possible?

Jogi

I agree - this is how I would want it to work.
I haven't tried this software yet but I want to. Can anybody answer this question please? The user guide didn't seem to give me the answer:
Can I program the software to give me <FN> + <SHIFT> = <CTRL> ?
I.e. can I hold down FN and SHIFT to get the Ctrl function? Is that a combination of keys that's supported in the dropdown selectors? I don't want to lose an existing key to get the Ctrl function if I can avoid it.
And yes, I want everything!
Superb. Makes my Exec a whole lot more useful.
Has anyone figured out how to copy some text as any highlighted text gets wiped out when you enter 'C'
Mike
ctrl+c it just works. Doesn't clear the text at all.
is there a way to use the button mapped to Ctrl solely for Ctrl?
I use "CAP LOCK" as Ctrl, and although it works fine as Ctrl, when I start typing again, my writing is all in caps :-(

How to assign back button in Opera through input.ini

Hi everyone,
I managed to assign most commands in opera to buttons on my keyboard through editing the input.ini file but am missing the back button. Does anybody know how to assign the back-action to, say the DEL-button? I checked most (if not all) posts and articles by Menneisyys but havent been able to find it.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortuantely, the "Today" item there is for opening up the Today Screen Settings. I was trying to find such a "shortcut" myself a while back, and never did come up with anything. At this point, I think it can only be done programmatically, by "minimizing all running apps". I haven't looked, but there's probably a pretty simple Windows API call for that.
Similar to what a couple of other suggestions here have been, there is probably some alternative that you can use to get to the Today Screen easily. I use Wisbar Lite, and as such, I lose the Double Click the Windows Button, and simple Menu->Today features. But I found I can configure Wisbar Lite to give me pretty easy access. I also believe it was SPB Pocket Plus that gave me link that I use to program my PPT button to go to the Today Screen on a quick press. Don't know where exactly, that link really is, so I can't investigate how it's actuially done.
Maybe some of the above will help you?

Microphone accessory - button for Voice Command

If you push the button on the microphone which comes with the X1, it answers a call. If you push it twice it seems to call the last person you called.
Is there a way to use this button to invoke the Voice Command monitor?
Thanks
I found it easier just to re-direct the Soft Buttons!!
Left for Voice Command, Right for Comm Manager
Stuart
Yep, that's exactly what I have. Best set-up by far.
But when in the car, it would be easier to use the mic button, so I'd like to double up on Voice Command access.
So.. no-one else has managed this either?

Do you read? Of course it does if you are talking about the button in the pic
If you "hold" the button, yr X1 will call the exe program specified in this registry. X1 stock rom does not comes w/ any VC program and you have to install one yrself. Of course, if you put in other program like Core player, it will be start if you hold the button.

Firstly, where have I been rude? Secondly, this has nothing to do with searching. I would challenge you to find a single thread on this subject anywhere else on the whole internet, started before this one. If you're going to criticise at least make some of the criticism partially relevant.
Jackleung, thanks for the solution, but in response to your manner, if you post an arbitrary reg key (a key which has no logical connection to the described solution) and which doesn't work if the instructions are followed (due to the wrong syntax), you should expect for that solution to be met with scepticism.
Coming bach to the original topic:
I wrote a script (thanks, Mort!) that enebles the tap&hold (2-3sec) of the Microphone Button to jump to the next track in Mortplayer (if it is running).

There are two different ways for the X1, to remap the soft keys. One is via the button settings in the windows settings, which is a global override which causes the buttons not to behave as softkeys anymore, and the other is via registry setting (have a look into the Wiki here), that maps specific applications to the softkeys while in today view - this way, the softkeys stay available in all other applications. I personally prefer the last approuch, because I don't like fingerprints on my screen.

No, this only works with mortplayer as you need the possibility to change the track via an exe file or at least an exe with a parameter (like in my script)...If you find a way to do this with the media panel (which i doubt you will ) we could have it...otherwise not.
