hello everybody,
Is there any way to open more than one web page in internet explorer?
Thanx in advance
Jatt
Great question. While we're asking that question can someone expalin why on a VGA device the Pocket Outlook applications do not make use of this high resolution. Also how can you view HTML emails? The JJ/Exec feels so backwards sometimes!!
There was a version of Dynamo that would allow you to open up multiple windows and even allow one pop up off of a page. The new version of Dynamo 2 does not allow this but you might be able to find one of the earlier versions that does. http://www.aspecto-software.com/Main/
Well to say its wm5 where's tabbed browsing?
I'm also missing the flash plugin ..
There doesnt appear to be a 'save as' option for downloading non binary files either. It just opens them. Very annoying.
I wonder if anyone is working on a port of Firefox over to the pocketpc platform - I for one would welcome this!

Hey Buzz,

I tried ftxPBrowser for about an hour now but the clarity of the pages is far worse than pocket IE.
I used Spb pocket plus which has plug ins for Pocket IE and gives u option to open more web pages but i dont like spb plus it uses lots of memory and i m happy with magic button.
Is there any way to just get a plug-in for Pocket IE like the one which Spb plus uses, that would b gr8..
May b i m asking a lot!
Thankx anyway

ftxPBrowser is actually using PIE to render pages, so quality is gonna be the same, once you turn off ClearType and scale the fonts bigger.
All of them are options in ftxPBrowser.

SouthwayCorp.MultiIE.v3.0
Don't change your browser, enhance it with MultiIE! such as multiple windows, full screen mode and hardware button mapping
http://www.southwaycorp.net/
NetFront v3.1 for PPC2003 with JV-Lite2 Rel1.00
Microbrowser for PocketPC2003 with JV-Lite2 supports rich functions such as Smart-Fit rendering, Multi-Window
http://www.access.co.jp/english/index.html
PIEPlus 1.2
PIEPlus adds extreme power to Pocket Internet Explorer. It has lots of features like optimizing web page to fit in screen and more.
http://www.reensoft.com/
Netfront is very sophisticated but its file is too big, I use multiie. PIEPlus is good also.
i would like opera or Mozilla for pocketpc
i use standard pie 2003 and nyditot v3.22 and spb pocket plus
that whay i can get landscape, multi windows ect... its alright
is there another browser besides Ftx? one that is stand-alone, cause i think "pie" is way too slow
ftxbrowser seems to be quicker on my xda1 than explorer.
ThunderHawk
You can try ThunderHawk, but it's on a subscription basis.

I remember these things from my Palm days: A lot of these PDA-based subsciption services work by browsing through their proxy. This proxy will then resize the images and pack all the 'page prerequisites' in one compressed package so that loading tme is minimized. Al of this is really what you want, but quality varies with these places.

In terms of quality, ThunderHawk may be the best. It's from BitStream, which actually develops fonts. You view the web pages in landscape mode, and though it might be mighty small compared to PIE, the image and font qualities are simply one of the best. I'm quite happy with it during my subscription, and since it just sends the updated portions of the screen, I also save on my GPRS costs . There are restrictions, of course. Like, it doesn't work well with Jave, and multiple screens. You really have to weigh the pros and cons before making your decision on which browser to purchase  .
i have been looking for something similar but have had no luck... what i am looking for is a particular option...
use the left and right buttons along with the page scroll up/down so i can do page back/forward....
fxtpbrowser is goog small footprint and has the option to map buttons not the left and right... would be nice if u can keep ur thumb near one place and do it all rather than jump up and down to reach 2 diff sets of buttons...
any ideas???

Opera have no intention on writing a browser for Windows Pocket PC.
They will however be relasing a version for Windows Mobile 2005, as the OS will be the same on both Pocket PC and Smartphone, so giving a sizable target market.
but the java opera version works ok on pocketpc's
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,42332
but it being a java miplet would prob mean it's not the fastest thing
Having a VGA PDA is nice, but Microsoft made useless Pocket IE, which Browser will help me to REALLY surf in VGA mode, I do not want to put the VGA Hack for everything
I am afraid there are very few options at the moment. Give Bitstream's Thunderhawk a try though it is a bit expensive as you have to select a package of regular payment. However use there free trial period and if you like it you may continue.
I am also anxiously waiting for the WM5 compatible version of Access Netfront and Opera.
I was using Netfront 3.2 on my previous i-mate pda2k but this does not work on the JJ.

What VGA hack? Do you know of one that works for WM5 or Pocket IE? I've been looking for one.
Thanks,
Brett
I've always liked opera and used to use it loads on my SE P800/P900. Does anyone know if they plan to release a WM5 version? Should we ask them?
minimo support VGA not sure if it works on 2005 though
It doesn't (at least it didn't for me)
This is reall stupid, MS made the OS quite well except for Web browsing...

I never cease to be amazed when I ponder the absolute stupidity of Pocket IE. To some extent I can understand why some people would want to use the pixel doubling feature on a VGA device, but why on earth wouldn't they give us the option to disable it?
Brett
It really is pathetic isn't it. They give us the options of having the text as small as we like but then it goes and makes all the pictures massive and blocky.
I guess MS just don't want people to use the browser.

Well, there you go then. I'll remote desktop through to my server, which will RD through to a desktop machine (with slightly more lapse security settings than my server; eg running scripts, etc) and I'll use that IE in that instead

use the 009 version
Tried the install of minimo on my Jasjar. Ran thru the normal start of installation, then i got a msg on the pda screen that the install was unsuccessful!
I tried to use Minimo very eary time i got Jasjar, yse works.
But not only too slow but also the size was too big for me.
Not good solution for me.
That why i am using Opera for MS Smart Phone and Opera Mini for GSM Phone on MIDLet.
Opera Mini is the best for me at this moment.....
How do you use Opera Mini without being in Norway?
There website says Norway only.

@ 155,
You can run it. The default language is Scandanavian (Please don't shoot me if I have that wrong). But you can go into the settings and change it to english. I didn't find the program too useful, but it does work.
Sorry late replay, already not up to date i think....

@lucazaffiro.
Bitstream Thunderhawk does work on the JJ. It is working for me.
The trick is that before you tap the Thunderhawk Icon (eye) rotate the screen to portrait. If you start Thunderhawk without rotating the screen to portrait then it gets stuck.
Please do let me know if this helped.
Kind regards
Quick question. Has anybody developed the IE scroll for the PPC/WM5? Second has anybody developed the open and close of applications animations?
Thanks in advance.
IE scroll --> don't know
Animate window is in Tweaks2K2 .NET , but I don't know ,is it ok for you , just try
looking for a free app, heard of tweaks2.net but would rather not pay.
actually, something that animates smoothly like the iphone and scroll are available. The one I've just heard about is itask over at the Lakeridge website. It works with wisbar I think. And as for the scrolling effect. It depends. If you just want that in your contacts list, there are a couple here like icontact or contacts manager that has the finger scrolling effect. But if you wanted it in all programs like Internet explorer, you might want to check out the touchflo stuff. Its ripped from the HTC touch device, but they have gotten it working on the wizard already, but it still has its bugs. Try it out and make the decision yourself. Hope that helps
the program PIE has a screen drag for internet explorer
Picture Scroller
Is there anything Like the Iphone Picture scroller available?
Thanks for the replys, I saw itask, im not running wisebar (wanting to see what I can do with freebies for a while). I used Icontact for a while, had some issues scrolling and clicking contacts etc.
I cant find that PIE app (searched google and mainly get..well pies..lol)
im searching out the touchflo now, but not seeing Apache, missing something?

Try searching for 'Pocket Internet Explorer', I believe that is what it is called (although I don't use it. I use picsel browser at the minute with my iPhone theme)
You don't need Wisbar Advance to use iTask. It uses Macromedia Flash 7 and Mort Script to work which is entirely free.
PIE is "Pocket Internet Explorer" which is built into most Pocket PCs today. What you need to look for is PIE Plus which uses PIE and adds tabbed browsing, finger scrolling and lots of other goodies. It's not free but worth it. Wisbar is also worth it for that matter as it is inexpensive
Whatg would you guys say is the most like the Safari browser? I have only used Picsel but have heard of opera mini 4 being like safari, and also deepfish.
iTask is pretty awesome unto it self, (im gunna play with it..lol), but im more looking to use the standard application of the phone and just add the animation when opening or closing windows.
PIE Plus seems to be exactly what I want in regards to the internet apps, but dont want to pay for it..Anybody know of another free app?
^^I'd love the transitions from itask, but on wisbar.

Why did you do that. I think I would want the same thing delude wants.
I want those iTask transition animations to work on Wisbar Advanced Desktop
Meaning I wouldn't need iTask anymore.

Hey guys,
It's me yet again, I've got some more questions I'm not sure if I should split some for the other forum area or not. Either way, let's start. Note that I'm migrating from a Nokia N95 so ignore my lack of knowledge I'm trying .
1. What programs would you guys suggest for sending text messages from my HD to another phone via my laptop, bluetooth or USB are good, Nokia PC Suite had something for this but I've not found anything for WinMo.
2. I'm used to having a the ease of changing my profiles so my ring tones and what-not for different situations normally at will, WinMo does this very differently is there a program that I can use to just pick say 'Work' and it goes to vibrate?
3. Is there a newer version of the Opera mobile? I'd like to update it as it think it has a few bugs.
4. My contacts are Sur, For how do I change this for all contacts? I have far too many to change them all by hand.
Sorry about the length and thanks again.
For such a large forum it amazes me that hardly anyone posts to my topics.

Yep - you can download the Cab for DDrivers 15 Tab TF3D changer for HD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450278
This allows you to have 15 tabs on the bottom of the screen - one of which is a profile manager. There are loads of applications out there which also do a profile manager and can also do it for time of day etc.

One way is to use Outlook or Outlook express and import your settings from your Nokia to this. Then update what you require in Outlook - surname/first name or vice versa (means you can use the keyboard and mouse). Then connect your device to the computer and update contacts through active sync.
Or get a different contacts program: Something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478970&highlight=yota
Thank you very much .
I've installed the Outlook add-on and look forward to using it. What other profile programs would you suggest as I'd like to ring and vibrate at the same time or just vibrate but with the ability to listen to music (vibrate turns off sound WTF?).
Also which is newer the Opera beta or the Opera on the forums? I'm a bit confused as to which to use ...
Lastly will these contacts programs replace the HTC variation or simply add my changes to the HTC version? I rather stick to the inbuilt one as my main contact storage.

Yeah - bit of a pain that one. I use S2U2 and S2P
http://www.ac-s2.com/
- this allows me to set different levels for the volume of the ring and the audio. You can do this on the standard volume control on the HD by clicking the top tab but I prefer the S2U2 version where you see both volume levels in the same window.
You have to go into the settings of S2U2 and turn volume control ON under the phone settings.
If you don't like the S2U2 thing there are loads of other apps with volume control settings. Think of your phone as a phone and a music player hence 2 controls! S2P = Slide to Play. Is a bit like the iphone's music player - get the open GL version as it is better for touch HD.

Hard to say - the beta may be newer but will have issues with stability (hence beta as it is not a real release and intended for testing). Best to find someone on the forums who has a stable version. I'll have a look but so far mines kinda still got issues.

It will replace it. May have to bite the bullet and go into outlook or sort them individually. Good thing is - once you've done it - it's done. I spent an hour sorting mine in Outlook but I'm glad I did as it now means I have a very tidy contacts list in both applications and they are synchronised together - so if my phone/outlook lose data I can just put it back again. Plus outlook can backup the settings to a .PST file or to excel etc for importing to other programs and computers.
Main thing is. So long as you have backed up your contacts you can always put them back on your device the way you like em!
Hope this helps? If you need more help just ask - I'll do my best.....
Sorry missed a bit....
A large number of people use SPB as their profile tool.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/
May be able to find it on this site for testing but if you like it you should buy it.
I'm sure there are loads out there just have to go through and install some and then take them off is they don't work as you like.
Good thing about the phone is if you think you've messed your phone up you can do a Hard Reset which boots the phone back to how you got it when you first turned it on!
Look at this page for some good ideas and tips

Thanks for your help.
Can SPB Mobile Shell be used with TouchFLO3D? I enjoy using the interface so not looking to change any time soon.
Thanks about looking into Opera for me, I've seen a version posted round January but that's it.
No SPB Mobile Shell cant be used with TF3D. Or actually TF3D cant be used with SPB Mobile shell. You can technically keep TF3D running, and then use SecondToday software to add a second today screen that is easily accessible by tapping one of the 2 bottom soft keys. I have this very setup. I have mobile shell and pocket plus as my main today screen, and SPB Diary and SPB Insight as a second today screen. This allows me to have SPB Diary as a full screen as it starts at the very top and ends when it ends (at 300 because thats SPB's max alignment).
For profile auto switching, try Inesoft Phone. It can coexist with TF3D.
Agree with everything above.
Should have asked you - What issues are you having with Opera?
This will help me to troubleshoot for you as it may be options.
Thanks for your help again guys.
Inesoft Phone seems a bit slow and I can't seem to find out how to delete some of the profiles as well as release the contacts (I only wanted the profile application NOT the others).
Regarding Opera it's mainly because the keyboard seems to type very slowly on webpages, the URL bar and stuff is fine it's only when typing say a username or password on a website that it has problems.

Can't say that happens on mine - Have search XDA-Dev forums and also Google and some people report it is a bit slow and have tried using Opera Mini.
It may be worth doing a post specifically for this as someone will be able to help (hopefully)
Personally I'd stick with Opera mobile, I used Opera Mini on my N95 once, it was good but the power of Opera mobile is still by far the best in regards to mobile internet experience. If anyone finds a newer version of Opera please send it my way .
Just to point out that I'm still looking for a profile application, Inephone installs the Address Book which I don't want. I've recently enjoyed using SSMaPa so I suggest it for anyone who needs it.
Thanks for your help again guys.
Any more suggestions?
