Hey all,
How do you get the WM5 mail client to delete the mail from the server? I'm happy with it leaving it on there when it just pulls back the headers but I want it to delete the server mail when I tell it to 'delete' on the client.
Any Ideas?
Also, what mail clients do people use?
Thanks
P
under 'options' select 'immediately' on the delete section
that will delete from the pda and the server on a universal

Regards all,
I was hoping that someone has figured out how we can check our mail, for email accounts in hotmail, yahoo, netscape (HTTP servers) without having to do it through Internet Explorer. If there is a way to check the account as if it was a POP3 mail account. Please let me know if someone figured it out or downloaded an add on to the mail client application that comes with the PPC. Thank you for all your help.
For Hotmail there is a s/w called pHotmail v2.1 so maybe you can try it ... but I'm not aware of a way to setup HTTP accounts like POP3 and IMAP4 inside Outlook
I have not enabled Activesync of the Inbox. I instead created an IMAP4 account which then came with its own inbox. Once the IMAP4 setup was complete, my XDA downloaded all the headers from my work mailbox, which is a gr8 relief.
One problem I have is that I can not forward or create new emails to ppl in the office because the XDA does not have a list of all users to verify against. It seems to be looking for an LDAP server, but I don't think I have one setup. How do I create an LDAP server which is available from the internet?
PS. Why would anyone use ActiveSync to sync their emails if ActiveSync can not send or receive emails using the internet (via GPRS)?
i recently upgraded to the mda from a sidekick. the sidekick email had an option where i could leave emails on the pop server when they were downloaded to the sidekick .this would allow me to read and delete the email on my sidekick while my wife would still have the emails available for web access from else where. How can i configure the mda to do the same? This morning i deleted about 300 msgs from my mda and they were also deleted from the server which made us loose a lot of info that we needed.
Server issue not MDA
The server controls that. If you are using T-mobile mail server they dont have a way to keep the messages on the server. I wish they did. What email server you are using to capture mail on the tmobile server? I would recommend you use true push email. If you like you can get alwaysonmail (www.alwaysonmail.com) which gives you that option to keep mail or delete from their server. Tmobile is a little behind the times on their email server.
I dont think i am using the tmobile server because i bypased the tmobile setup and manually configured the mda to get mail from the yahoo servers. Previously with the sidekick I was given the option on the sidekick to leave the mail on server but I never saw any such option on the mda. Now when I check mail with the mda the mail remains on the server but when i delete mail on the mda it deletes it from yahoo. I just want the mda check mail so that I have a copy of all the mails on the mda but any changes or deletion on the mda should not affect mail on yahoo server.
My understanding is that it automatically defaults to leave email on the server until deleted from the MDA. That is how it works with mine, at any rate, and I have to purge the deleted items folder to get emails purged from the server.
Try connecting via IMAP rather than POP3.
i just downloaded flexmail and i was able leave email on server and do a whole lot more, now i am extremly happy. the standard pocket email client is just very weak on features.
Hello,
I'm having a stupid issue with the Messaging application. My mailserver is an IMAP server, but the root folder for emails is "~/mail/". The application however doesn't allow my to set the server mail folder. Is there a registry entry for this?
Currently, it hangs on the send/receive action...
For a different mail server (where the mailroot has the default value), the messaging client works ok (with VPN, etc.).
edit: I can circumvent the folder issue as the server still supports POP3, but I would like IMAP to access additional folders...
I tried using QMail, but ran into a lot of issues, causing me to give up on it. The last issue is that it downloads the mail headers, but never the mail bodies (if I choose a mail, it just ignores my choice and refreshes the folder). It also doesn't keep the VPN connection (which I need when I connect to the server over WIFI) alive; after one minute the VPN connection is closed and QMail says it lost connection (actually, it says nothing, it just doesn't do anything anymore).
Thanks!
Jörg
Firstly, i have used search etc and haven't found anything, so apologies if its been asked before.
I've got email set up on my phone, downloaded fine (i think), i've got it to leave a copy on the server. so when i use my email client (thunderbird) on my pc i can download the message for those records.
Is it normal for the message to disappear from the phone once the email client downloads it?.
Is there anyway that i can download the message on my phone, and on the email client, so i effectively have duplicates.
The email client is set to remove the message from the server once downloaded.
yes, this is normal with POP email.
Just set the email client on your desktop to leave mail on the server also.
Thanks Jonno, done!
Or use IMAP4 protocol if your mail provider have it

PS: I use IMAP4 for Laptop and Touch HD
