Hell Everyone
I was just wondering what peoples experiences were with there mda pro's or other devices regarding the hinges.
Both my JASJAR and my Exec make no noises at all when moving the hinge.
Im wondering wether its the mda's that have the issue, maybe a faulty batch of them. I read somwhere else somone had returned theres 3 times upto now.
Any other people with comments ?
hhhmm My exec only makes the sound of the screen when it touches the rubber protectors of the keypad. I suggest going into a T-mobile shop and asking them about it and look at one of their models.
Hi Adam. I have had 3 JJ's with various different problems (mainly speakers)
2 of them have made hinge "cracks". Is your spring quite "strong?" The only JJ I had without the crack the hinge was quite weak. the click is the spring shifting. With my first unit this noise reduced over time.
Other annoying things I have found (having had 3) are creaks from the IR port and from the back. Both of the other units had speakers that "rattled" which was very annoying.
I am keeping my latest unit, as all the speakers work without rattling.

IS My JJ a Fluke?
I wonder if My JJ is a fluke - I seem to have none of the problems listed on these forums except for slight sluggishness when many apps are running and (annoyingly) the inabity to run full screen vids in WMP or activate MS Reader, both of which I regard as easily worked round bugs (installled Mobi Pocket and TCMP), No hinge problems, very few soft resets, no hard resets since I had the device (3 weeks), no dropped calls, bluetooth connection stays alive until I close it (as does GPRS/ UMTS) MS voice command works perfectly with BT headset (after reg hack), gr8 battery life etc. I worry that it the device is perhaps saving up a catalogue of failures which will hit me all at once!!!!
;o)
same here.. universal works fine. .
i think those problems occur when people install loads of non wm5 appz
I've tried this in 2 XDA II's. I put my headphones it one and it works but you cant hear it and you have to hit the cap around a little for it to get sound for a slip second. I put my headphones in another XDA II and it works fine.. So obviously there is something wrong with this XDA II's headphone jack. The rubber cover to the headphone jack is missing, would this have any effect on it?
EDIT-
When I put it in the broken headphone jacked PDA when I insert the headphones in it makes a crinkle noise from me pushing it in. The other XDA II goes in smoothly. =/
Hi.
Rubber cap doesn't change anything (apart from stopping rubbish from getting into connector )
What you described is a case of worn out connector (in PDA).
It happens sometimes. Jack type connector aren't so tough, especially when you plug in and out often.
If you dismantle Blueangel, you'll have clear view of connector body soldered to PDA's mainboard.
You can do it. You can let somebody do it. Or You can leave it to professionals.
The connector needs to be replaced (very cheap part).
Maybe it's enough to bend metal terminals inside a little. A person who does hardware will know.
There's a optimistic version though.
Maybe only cleaning the terminals would do for you (I doubt it though).
It can be done without opening BA.
I'd recommend using some special spray (for cleaning electrical contact metals). Ask in electronic parts shop.
Good luck.
I ment my XDA II, not XDA IIs, lol. I have no expierence with opening the phone but I am good with electronics, but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for =/. I think I might just buy the HT820's Bluetooth headset, that would solve my problem overall.
Faulty socket repair...
Hey guys,
I have the same problem as above (crackling sound through headset) and the O2 service centre said it would cost £97 to fix.
But just did a web search and found a small company in London that said they can fix it (within 2 hours!!!!) for only £30!!!!
Im off to get it sorted so I'll let you know how it all went!!!
Richie Rich.
Mine wasn't like this until I bought it. I bought it from a friend for only $100USD because I'm very good friends with him, it works fine perfectly but the only problem is the headphones don't work in it (any headphones) and he knows there is something wrong with the jack, it wasn't like this until recently it happened. It's cheap to fix probably... but I'd rather just buy the HT820 bluetooth headset, its a good replacement instead of having to send in the PDA to fix a little headphone jack port I wont be ever using sooner or later.
but hey if that place fixes your phone, reply to this topic I want to know!
Headset Jack
I had this exact same problem in the past.
The headset would crack and go out every once in a while, sometimes I would have to move it around in order to get any sound at all.
I didn't do anything about it until it completely broke off, yes the inside plastic connected to the motherboard broke...
So I went to open it up, its not that hard, just a few screws, but I had to buy a torax screw driver (not that expensive)
I was also a bit shy about opening it, but I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8525&highlight=opening+himilaya
you wont have to open it all the way up... just pulling the back cover off, then you will see the headset jack,
If it isn't broken or cracked then your solution would just be to take the metal connectors and a flathead screwdriver, and bend them,
Don’t bend the metal connectors too much so you can’t put a headset in, but just enough where there is definite connection around the headset,
You might want to put a headset in and see the dimensions before you close it (to save you from opening it up again)
You might want to clean the metal if it is dirty, ether with a dab of eyeglass cleaner on a soft cloth (eyeglass cleaner works well with electronics, due to the alcohol that evaporates)
Although if the metal is encrusted or rusty, you might want to take a small strip of sandpaper, or some abrasive object, but don’t rub too hard or you'll take them off!
Don’t worry too much about opening your device up; it is not hard, just open it with caution.
Good luck!
imablackhat, hi, did u mean that ht820 can output sound from media player & every sound from xda2? my current BT is bluetrek G2 and as far as i'm using it for talking only. how many hours the batt can last if we continously hear musics?
its 17 hours of music, www.expansys.com, search HT820, its the headset. I'm considering buying it for cheaper on eBay.
Hi guys!
Great forum you are running here. I have been a regular reader for some time now and learned a lot. I solved a few problems as well. So let me stress the reason writing this post. I currently own a TyTN, with which I am more then happy. Due to my job and private requirements the TyTN is lacking some features and I intend to swoop it for the Advantage. Before doing so I would like to know few, for me essential, things.
1.) how long does your battery last (going from full charge 100% to 0%), let’s say with the amount of conversation per day lasts 10-20min, few SMSes, some gaming…. I have seen some posts »long time« ago, when the Advantage was releases, but now you have more experience…
2.) how strong are the magnets holding together the KB and the device? In another words how easily can the devise fell off? I saw on the BBC World, last Thursday in the evening, on the show called “Click” that the device has detached from the KB very quickly when trying to operate it with finger. Any thoughts? Your experience?
Thanks for your answers! Would very much appreciate your comments!
Uros, Slovenia
So far I'm very satisfied with the battery considering the screen big size. Compared to my previous Hermes, I feel not much difference. And the magnets are very strong. Relating to the "Click" show, I think it's just a matter of how you hold your phone. I always type using my thumbs, the rest fingers supporting both the keyboard and the main unit.
I had the HTC TYTN and Uni before i bought this. i can tell you will be satisfied. it is a great device.
I get a good 1 day of very heavy usage, possibly 36 hours if I were to push it to very low battery. I prefer to charge it during the night though, so I have a fresh charge in the morning. That way I have absolutely no worries that I will run out during the day.
I have my LCD brightness on the 3 step from the lowest, and I do not use WiFi at all (I use Edge for data, maybe 2 hours a day). I also talk about 1-2 hours daily. Plenty of emails, SMS, and other typing is done. The screen is probably turned on 5 hours a day in total.
You can easily pick up and use the keyboard if you use both hands (very safe when using the leather case, less so without). 1 hand typing is possible, but it's not very comfortable.
I suggest you get a bluetooth headset with a very strong battery though, I find that the Dopod bluetooth headset isn't very long lasting and I run out at the end of the day (sometimes in mid conversation )
wired connection to the internet, but not via USB-ActiveSync or WiFi
Thanks guys. My made my decision very easy...
One additional thing though: can the device connect to the internet via usual Ethernet outlet (not via USB&ActiveSync or Wifi). Which adapters are required to do so? At home I do not have a wireless router so I am wondering if this is possible…
Thanks again
Ameo usability problem and solution!
I thought I'd give my opinion on the Ameo after a week of usage.
My primary intention when upgrading to the Ameo was to sell me Vario 2 and use the Ameo as an all-in-one device for emailing, calling, texting, surfing and multimedia. Unfortunately the phone aspect leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion:
In fact I found the device to be pretty much unusable as a phone.
For one, simply holding the handset to my ear feels embarassing, ridiculous and not at all comfortable. Separating the device from the keyboard and carrying the main device alone is also impractical as it leaves me without a keyboard should the need to text arise (it also leaves the phone more prone to scratching).
If a call comes through I have to pull the magnetic keyboard off, turn the volume down and hope no-one is standing near enough to overhear my conversation!
THE AMEO JUST FEELS WRONG AS A PHONE!
Using a bluetooth headset is a solution of types, but it means I don't know who's calling without unpacking the device and checking. It also leaves the added disadvantage of having TWO batteries liable to drain with heavy usage of the phone. The wired earpiece is a battery-free alternative which is fine if you happen to be sat in a cafe with your earphones plugged in, but hardly practical!
Everything else about the device I love:
The keyboard, despite opinions to the contrary, feels very responsive to me. It has a beautiful soft, high-quality feel to it. It doesn't feel 'clacky'. I was originally going to use my freedom bluetooth keyboard but I actually prefer the Ameo one - it just takes a bit of getting used to.
Battery life is astonishing in my opinion: I spent all day on it yesterday using WiFi and it didn't run out of juice till the evening. I would say battery life is as good if not BETTER than the Hermes.
The screen is superb for Satnav and web browsing, particularly with Mrtruevga installed - it feels almost like surfing on a laptop. My only gripe in this respect would be that Opera in particular (put PIE to some degree) is a little sluggish loading pages given the quality of the Ameo's hardware.
After getting used to the Ameo's features I decided that I definitely want to keep it, but don't want to use it as a phone as I SIMPLY COULDN'T LIVE WITH IT FOR THIS PURPOSE. My solution was this:
Sell my Vario ii,
Buy a Samsung z560 on Ebay (78quid!)
setup bluetooth DUN on AMEO with z560 (very easy)
I now have a pocketable phone with a decent auto-focus camera and mp3 capabilites for when I'm out and about, and a permanent BT connection to my Ameo for when i need to surf, email and use messenger. The Ameo connects automatically when in range which is rather useful, and battery life with both devices is great in my opinion (the fact that the z560 comes with two batteries is doubly helpful).
So all-in-all i'm very happy with my setup now. If anyone has any other ideas on how to make the Ameo into a practical telephone then I'd be very interested to hear them!

I've been using my Dopod U1000 pairing with i.Tech Clip D bluetooth headset for the whole month and have no problem at all identifying incoming calls. Very handy I believe.

very simply- buy a bluetooth headset and keep the brick in your pocket.
I use an I-tech d clip as I don't like something stuck on my ear.
With microsoft voice command you have nearly 100% accuracy dialing from contacts and the d clip has call number display. the only drawback of the d clip is no vibrate alert.

I got the BlueAnt V12 headset, which has a vibrating feature AND an LCD display to display incoming calls (number only) and status (nice). This is working very well for me. It also has a very good range. I left my phone in the car and came into the house... and it was still connected. I have been keeping it in my shirt pocket or, if sans pocket like today, on the included lanyard, which is fine if you don't mind the fashion statement. Using voice dial, the BlueAnt is essentially a mini-phone.
Also the speakerphone feature on the phone itself is also very usable, best I've seen. Signal strength has been better than any phone to date. All in all, as a phone, I would give it a solid rating... if you can get past not having being able to hold it up to your ear.
As an alternative bluetooth headset besides i.Tech Clip D, try Jabra BT8010 that is also able to show contact names when using with Jetware.

I think these are all good ideas but i still prefer my solution.
Yesterday for example I was able to take my pup for a walk in my shorts and tee shirt with my samsung sat merrily and comfortably in my pocket. The idea of having my Ameo swinging round my neck by a Lanyard with a Bluetooth device on my ear is slightly frightening - particularly given the delicate nature of the microdrive and the possibility of being both mugged and garotted at the same time.
I don't need an Ameo when I'm going to the shops or popping out into town, but its there for me whenever i need it - ready to connect just as easily to my phone as it would to a bluetooth headset. The only disadvantage I can see is that a Bluetooth 1.2 connection does not have the same bandwidth as a direct HSDPA connection through the device itself. However in practise I have found there to be great difference in browsing speed using Wifi, HSDPA through the Ameo itself or HSDPA through a BT DUN connection.
The benefits, I think, clearly outweigh the drawbacks.
Any thoughts?
Well to me i just find it slightly impractical to to carry two devices around... for example when u want to use gprs on the ameo do you switch the sim card?
just seems a bit much to do to avoid having to use a bluetooth headset
I don't think it's any more impractical than carrying a bluetooth headset around. i would say it's more convenient really as the ameo is very cumbersome to have on one's person at all times .
For GPRS I never use the Ameo's built in transmitter- as I said I just have a bluetooth connection to my other phone which gives me very fast browsing speeds in itself, but where available i also use WiFi.
I see no need to use my Ameo as a phone outright - as it stands I have all the browsing and multimedia capabilities I need wherever I need them with my Ameo, coupled with the convenience of a 'normal' phone for making and receiving calls and texting on the move.
All this with no Sim-swapping in sight!

Haha very good. I'll have to take a look on Pucci for a doggy Ameo travel case. Seems like a must-have.
Seriously though I love my Ameo: it's got serious wow factor as a portable browsing device, emailer and music/video player and the build quality is SUPERB. (I really like the keyboard too despite the lack of backlight). However i can't help but feel that all that 'wow' factor is immediately negated once someone calls you and you are forced to fumble for your bluetooth headset (or unfasten wallet, take keyboard off, turn volume down and hold monolythic metal brick against head). Any avoidance of using the device as a phone without losing any other key features is in my opinion a wise move, especially if it lessens the chance of my Ameo being seen/stolen, or getting knocked about.
seriously
the d-clip can sit in your ear on a walk and no-one will notice it.
the mic clips on your neckline
to answer the call you put your finger to your ear and push the button on the earplug, very simple, no fumbling.

they can then bragg about the crocodile hunt.

thiis a lot more practical than using the built-in speakerphone! theres still the major drawback of having to carry the handset with you at all times though. whilst this is fine if you have a jacket or combats with big pockets its still never goong to be practical in a lot of instances; for example if you wanted to go out of an afternoon and sit in a beergarden with your mates. i just dont feel comfortable having such a big expensive item on me. as i imagine most people got their ameos on upgrade i wonder how many of them have kept their old phone for more practical communication when big pockets arent available.

... i'll buy my dog (a big bernese-mountain-dog) next week an Ameo !
... what's about the quality (sound & volume) of Ameo's hands-free? - is it usable in the car?
- is it good enough to take calls when "Flocki" (the dog) is carrying the Ameo?

Yes, absoultely (although his / her fur is kept out the way of the mic).
I fidn that the Ameo comes into its own in partnership with a Jabra BT8010 - a fantatsic little device.
Hi,
I am wondering what the most convenient way to take my wired earbud with me so that I can listen to music, or making a call using the headphones.
Which earbud pouch do you use ?
Just putting the earbud in the one's pocket is not a good idea, it gets dirty, and the wired get tangled.
I prefer by far a wired to a bluetooth hearphone, because I hate having to bother about another device to charge.
I am using the original HTC Kaiser headphone, because I find it a lot better than any other for the simple reason that it has a volume slider contrary to the HS U110 (cf. http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=155073&p=tech ). And although the E100 (cf. http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=150195 ) has a volume slider, I do not have the use of the other functionalities because I use CorePlayer software exclusively (I also recommend you to do so by the way).
Could you share in this thread, how you carry your wired earbud together with you kaiser ?
Chris
Where did your TyTN II come from?
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. It's interesting that your original Kaiser wired headset has a volume slider because mine does not. The other problem you haven't mentioned with putting the headset wound up in a pocket or bag is that the earpad foam 'socks' often get pulled off.
It seems like HTC (at least here in the UK) are missing the boat big time. Not only do they not supply a case to carry the headset, they also don't supply replacement earpad socks. Fortunately the Motorola ones are interchangable. There are rubberised devices shaped like a dog bone meant for coiling up headset wires but I'd prefer a small fully enclosed case. I'm considering buying a new inner ear style headset soon anyway (as soon as the manufacturer releases a straight plug version that doesn't need an adapter), they suggested I get back to them early in May. This will hopefully resolve the whole issue.
Another think I did not mention: the bend of the headphone mini-USB like jack is done in the wrong direction !! I can't believe it. Mine is bent to the right, which is very annoying to take the stylus in and out !
Do you have your headphone mini-USB like jack bent to the left ??

No the headset that came with my HTC branded TyTN II bought in the UK have a straight plug with HTC moulded onto it. It sounds like you dont have the original headset that comes with the TyTN II (at least not here in the UK).

Hi guys !
You were correct, I mixed up the headphones of the HTC Kaiser and the HTC TyTN 1. This is because I had a HTC TyTN 1 (I still have it) before my current HTC Kaiser.
Here is a picture of the headphones of sold with my HTC Kaiser and my HTC TyTN 1 :
Original headphone sold with my HTC Kaiser:
There is no volume slider which is really annoying for me to ajust the sound ! (on the PPC it is cumbersome to change it)
Original headphone sold with my HTC TyTN 1:
The mini-USB jack is bent to the Wrong direction, which is really annoying to get the stylus In and Out of its slot.
So both of them have big drawback !
If you want some earphones of the type that go right into your ear then Seidio may have something in the not to distant future (currently the plug is bent as per TyTN 1 but in an email response to me they said to get back to them around now for an update). I think in terms of getting such a product to market quickly, the more the merrier who contact them about this (and ask for a good holder box/case with them).
Yes, that would be a good news, do you have a photo of the beta product ? or link to it ?

No but I imagine it'll be a cross between this 2-IN-1 InEar ISOLATOR and the straight plug as per your standard TyTN II headset. As for the case/holder, thats anyones guess but as I'm wanting a non retractable one, it's important they do that right. You may want to see if they're after any Beta testers?
I do agree with you a retractable cable it not that good because it is a weight when you use your earbud.
What about this headset: http://www.expansys.fr/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=155073
Apparently you can plug any earbud on it.
Does it have a volume slider ?
Does it have a straight mini-USB ?

The picture shows a 3.5 mm (1/8") plug on the headset itself with an adapter plugged into it so it can be used with a TyTN II. It's also a standard size 'outer ear' type earbud rather than the sort I want that go right into the ear canal. No vol slider shown (or mentioned) and as it's described as suitable for a TyTN II it must come with HTC’s 'ExtUSB' plug on the end of the adapter. In short, if you want an outer ear solution you're better off getting the original style headset with ExtUSB plug built in so there's no need for an adapter or added complexity and cost.

This one here bends to the left & therefore doesn't get in the way of your stylus (you can take that statement in so many different ways )... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2169054&postcount=7
I contacted the Seido online people for an update recently and got a most unhelpful response. Following from the earlier promising email I received, it appears nothing has been accomplished. I can't believe they're not interested in tweaking their product by fitting a straight plug (which they already use on their adapter anyway) so TyTN II users can use their product without problems. I also got the door slammed regarding my querie about a suitable storage case. Maybe the operator was having a bad day - I know I was after that call.
Has anyone else had any luck sourcing an inner ear style headset with mic and answer button which doesn't require an adapter for the TyTN II? What about a storage case for it? I found the 'earbuddy' for ipod headphones but after speaking with a staffmember at a company selling them, he advised me that his mobile phone headset with mic didn't fit as the earbuddy was to small and didn't have space for the mic.

I let it hanging loose when I listen to music (its hanging balanced around my neck), otherwise I have I have connected it to this Telenor neckless in the end (the plastic thingy I used prolly weigh about 3g or so). Has anyone else had any luck sourcing an inner ear style headset with mic and answer button which doesn't require an adapter for the TyTN II?

I found the 'earbuddy' for ipod headphones but after speaking with a staffmember at a company selling them, he advised me that his mobile phone headset with mic didn't fit as the earbuddy was to small and didn't have space for the mic.

I have found this a way to avoid knot in the headphon thread: http://www.proporta.fr/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=2473&t_mode=des
Thanks for your replies chris247. I've also seen those extUSB to 3.5 mm adapters but alas that would still mean an extra join in the system which I don't want. Aside from something else to possibly come unplugged, it's an extra part to potentially fail and extra weight pulling on the cable.
As far as the cable tidy goes I've also seen those things shaped like a dog bone but since finding the sendstation 'earbuddy' http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/earbuddy/ for ipod headphones (and seeing someone coil up there headphones and store them away in a purpose made pouch while on the train), I'd rather something that fully encloses them and protects them as well.
In answer to the original question... I purchased a set of Sony headphones from my local Tesco about a year ago. Came with a little grey drawstring bag (about 3in square). Takes the TnTy II headset no problem.
Sony earphones set me back about £10 - bit much to pay for a bag tho'

Do you coil the wire up around anything first or just untangle it when you get them out of the bag? If anyone knows of a phone that does come with a dedicated holder for the supplied wired headphones (with a mic built in) - perhaps this could be bought as a spare part. Do any phone manufacturers know what a 'value added' accessory is?
I think the Sony accessory for the earplug is good idea:
It is a good way to protect the fragile earplugs
While I have read other threads such as:
What is the best case?
What case do you use for xyz phone?
I've not read of solutions to those having to carry both their phone and their headset (not everyone has a Blueant Z9/Z9i/V1 that has a shirt clip as part of the unit... ).
Does such a solution exist? For example, my wife has a Motorola Razr2 V9 and is stuck using an old soft (i.e. no protection) cigarette case that can hold both the phone and her headset. I keep my Tilt in my front pocket, face directed toward my body, at the moment.
There's got to be a better solution.
