I have never been able to get Tom Tom GPS on my XDA2 to communicate with a Fortuna Clip ON BT GPS. I thought upgrading to the new XDA2 1.6 ROM might help - not so far.
Clipon BT GPS is paired and via BT tools is set up as Serial Port profile on COM7.
In Tom Tom, I'm not sure what to select, I've tried "SiRF Bluetooth", "SiRF 38400", "TomTom Wireless GPS". On the other selection if I select "Bluetooth GPS" or "ClipOn-BTGPS on COM7" these appear to work as the blue LED on the Clipon GPS flashes fast. I have only once seen the Tom Tom screen show any satelites and don't know why it worked, every other time I try the Tom Tom screen does nothing.
I have tried ST mode out in the back garden after waiting till light turns green when sats found. Also tried XT mode, although LED stays orange.
Please someone point me in the right direction - this is doing my head in!!!
Did you delete your paired devices from the xda2 before installing bluetooth tools? In my experience you have to do this to make it work properly. Once you have bluetooth tools installed you can then enter discoverable mode and repair your gps, my gps shows up as com4. In the tomtom gps you choose the gps from the lower drop down box which will show your fortuna device.
Thanks for the reply. The XDA2 had been cold reset so all pairings were gone from before.
Somehow it is working now. I have "TomTom Wireless GPS" and "Bluetooth GPS" selecting in drop down lists and seems to be working fine now.

Explain to me how you get Fortuna to show up in the dropdown list of GPS receivers - I'm now using TT3 as an upgrade from TT2, and it STILL doesn't show Fortuna? You have to use a SiRF 38400 according to their manual.
BTW, thanks a lot for the info - I had exactly the same problem and it sorted it out. Up till now I've just been sending the BTGPS unit back for replacement ..
If you use BT tools and set the fortuna up with a serial port connection. (mine defaults to COM7) It then appears in the lower drop down list on TT3 GPS settings.
However mine is set to "Bluetooth GPS" and it works perfect.
Hi Guy's
I'm getting a "GPS Disabled" on the fron screen when TOmTom3 loads, any ideas.
THX
If you have no GPS hardware connected, it's normal .
The case is probably what the text says: GPS disbled.
Solution: run TomTom Wizard or TomTom GPS.
In TomTom GPS select correct port (probably COM5 OR Bluetooth GPS) and type (try NMEA ....Bluetooth)

What GPS do you have and have you configured TomTom to use it in the GPS Applet?
These are my settings on a QTEC 2020 (XDA2 clone) running Pocket PC 2003 Windows Mobile edition,
I have TomTom 3.03 Navigator and the TomTom bluetooth reciever.
The below presumes you have already Bonded the Bluetooth reciever, and your PDA mode is set to Discoverable before you start.
(See below for instructions if in doubt **)
Goto TomTom GPS (Start, Settings, System, GPS), click the GPS tab and the top box should read "TomTom Navigator GPS",
and the second box should read "Bluetooth GPS". Make sure you you click the box next to these settings to complete, a tick is added.
Please note your TomTom reciever must be swithched on prior to doing this.
To check completion after this click on the Satus box and you should see some activity and sats recieved!
**To bond your Bluetooth reciever with your PDA.

Hope this sorts you out..
Tried the wizard and now it works, I was using it on another XDA 2 and was concerned that it was only restricted to that device after the intial use.
Thx Chaps
Glad to be of help ,

Hi, Could someone please help me with my BT-77 GPS and TT5 installation on my XDA2 as it's driving me mad, I don't even know where to start, but please be patient and read on.
The TT5.21 is installed on the XDA2 and the maps on a 1GB card and it seems to be working fine (Well I haven't tried it on the road yet). I also bought a BT-77 GPS. When I go into Bluetooth manager in the PPC, I see the GPS and it's bonded( according to the message next to it). I see both blue lights flashing (3sec on blue at every 2 sec on the red)but when I go into the settings of the TT5, I choose OTHER BT GPS and when selected I get the screen with GPS is connected to: BT on COM6 at 4600 baud.
Now, in the bluetooth settings on the PPC I only have COM4 for inbound and COM5 for outbound.
So what's going wrong and do I need a BT GPS driver on the PPC?
I get the circle in the top right spinning on the gps status screen as if its searching for a satellite signal, but i place the BT77 outside and theres nothing after 50 mins
i have tried coming out of tt5 to check my bluetooth settings and it says its off but the blue light is flashing! i have unintalled the tomtom bluetooth support so i can manually turn on the bluetooth, still no effect on sat receiption.
Also, the method of getting it to work on the xda exec doesnt work wither on this model
UP AND RUNNING!!
many thanks to forum member edsub for his post on the last page of this thread!

i followed his instructions and voila!
the key is to soft reset alot and to select com 5 in tomtom gps settings
I have just purchased a Qstarz BT-Q818 GPS Receiver and I am attempting to use this with my Tmobile Vario II.
I do not appear to be establishing a BT connection.
I turn on the GPS receiver and then turn on BT on the Vario II and proceeed thru the pairing process. The Device iBT-GPS is found and I appear to pair to as the passkey of 0000 is recognised. I select "Serial Port" from the list of Services and then have selected COM8 for a New Outgoing Port.
At this point the Bluetooth icon on the receiver is flashing every 5 seconds implying it is in power saving mode. (is this no BT connection?)
I start GoogleMaps and select Track Location (GPS). A message appears "GPS Starting" and then I receive an error page stating the GPS Device cannot be found'.
I have re-paired the Receiver many times, the unit is fully charged. I have no other BT devices paired.
I've done a search and see that many people are successfully using a QSTARZ receiver with TomTom. is the issue with GoogleMaps or more basic with Bluetooth pairing itself.
Any help will be much appreciated.
It's Google Maps
I have just got the Qstarz BT-818 and am very happily usining it with TTN 5.21 on my Vario II. Very Very happy with it in fact - I get 8-11 Sats whilst the receiver is in my glovebox!!!.
I've never managed to get GoogleMaps to recognise my either Qstarz or my previous BT GPS.
One thing worth mentioning is that COM8 is the one the Wireless modem uses. So if you want to use the Wireless Modem pick any other COM (I use COM4).
Vodafone 1605 and iBT-GPS
Hi Mike,
Did you have any luck with the Bluetooth pairing ?
I just received my iBT-GPS receiver this morning and cannot get it to work at all. The Bluetooth side seems to be in sleep mode (1 flash per 5 secs). If I turn the iBT-GPS receiver off and then on again, it goes into permanent blue LED mode (no BLuetooth link established) and the GPS (orange LED) locks and starts to flash. If I turn on the Vodafone 1605 the blue LED starts to flash at the sleep mode rate (1 per 5 secs) and the GPS (orange LED) lock goes out and stays out. I never seem to get the Bluetooth active mode where the blue LED flashes at 1 per 2 secs. Yet the Vodafone 1605 says the iBT-GPS device is in the paired list ? Set at COM 0 both in BTS and in GPS Program Port on Vodafone 1605. Also set manually to 112500 bauds. The manual says that during pairing I should be offered an 'SPP Slave' option from the PDA device. With the Vodafone 1605 I am only being offered a COM Port selection. Is that the issue here ?
Anyone out there using the two devices working happily together ? The user manual refers to a piece of iBT-GPS GPS receiver test software - but says nothing about what it is called or where to get it. I somehow suspect the iBT-GPS receiver is working OK but there is some handshaking issue between it and the Vodafone 1605 - or Windows Mobile 6 Professional ??
Thanks,
Richard
It's now OK
No reply - so I'll reply to myself and maybe give some other user some help in the process.
It's now working. Seems that if I used 'auto configuration' of Com ports from within the GPS application software (GPS Tuner) and also used the 'Stop/Start GPS' from within the software, then it 'kicked' the receiver into operation.
All is now OK and the combination of Vodafone 1605 (running Windows Mobile 6 Professional) and iBT-GPS receiver works fine.
Hopes this helps someone out there.
Regards
Richard (zorpie)
I've seen a few posts and guides regarding using Tom Tom with a M5000/Universal and a Bluetooth GPS unit but I've had no luck so far. I've gone through pairing numerous times (both on COM0 and COM8 as the manual with my unit advises) but whenever I set Tom Tom to the COM port it still stays in flight mode (versions 5 and 6).
This is the unit I've got:

Has anyone got one or know of any problems with it? Thanks.
I've got it working
Maybe my working setup will help
1. Paired the SPV with the BT-GPS
2. Added a new Outgoing port (Bluetooth Settings-COM Ports-New Outgoing Port) on COM0
3. Setup TomTom to use "Other GPS Device" and the connection list show COM0 (Note Bluetooth was on and both devices on)
4. Went into settings and GPS thingy (3rd page) on TomTom. Shows if the GPS device is connected, then illustrates it trying to find a fix.
Have a read of http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=50105 Which is a set-up guide I wrote last year - I used an XDA Exec as the hardware so its very close to the device you are having "fun" with - Mike
