Problem with Dopod 900 (Chinese version) - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Anybody is using Dopod 900 (Chinese version)?
I have got several questions and see if anyone can help:
1. Is there a way that I can change the font from MingLiu to Arial when I write emails which only contain English characters?
2. How can I change the preset wording on the subject of an email like "回覆" & "轉寄" and others like "寄件者" when I reply or forward emails? I would like to change them to English "Re:" & "Fw:", etc.
Thanks

1. you can do it ,first you need to find Arial in your computer and copy it to you PPC see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30094&start=0 in yyl's post you need change key than you can get it.
2.I don't think you can change this.

Thanks mwang! I'll try changing the fonts later today.
By the way, do you know how we can change the default input method from "ㄉ" to "A"?

I have just transferred the simhei.tff to Universal's "Windows/" directory. I then went to "FontLink" / "SystemLink"by using Regedit and changed the value of both Courier New and Tahoma to: "\windows\simhei.ttf,SimHei"
After soft-reset, everything has changed to SimHei, including the Chinese characters shown under Menu, IE, etc. , but.... when I click reply to Email or SMS, it still show the MingLiu fonts.....
How can I change this (i.e. the fonts under Pocket Outlook mail)?

Yes you could, with Maction Chinese
It can also display Chinese character in Today plugin, etc etc.. Only thing is, don't have too many false hope on these thing. Like me, I was hoping that it could sync my Contact that's in Chinese character with my Outlook that's in English. All those will becomes "??" mark, damn!!

ActiveSync does not seem to use Unicode as its means of communication. Instead, it uses the default encoding as per Windows' setting. If you have your setting set to English (United States), but have Chinese on your PPC, then it's not going to work.
It is possible to change this setting, but be aware of the consequences before doing so...
1) Open the "Regional & Language Options" dialog: Start->Settings->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options
2) Select the Advanced Tab. Read the details on the screen. Note: Changing this setting can have seriours consequences, as the default encoding of characters is changed. This means that characters other than the first 128 ASCII characters may appear differently in files after this setting is changed. Use with caution Change the setting to the language that you have installed on your Pocket PC. For example, I have "Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.). Click OK.
3) Reboot
4) Resync with ActiveSync.
>>> Update Note: The prior post was made with regard to ActiveSync 4.2, and with a WM2003SE ROM. These details may not be correct with regard to WM5 and the latest version of ActiveSync. It seems Windows Mobile 5 has better support for Unicode synchronisation.
I remember hearing about a chinese software called CE Star. Google for it..
There are two main issues here:
1) A Chinese language system that allows display of text in Chinese, along with Chinese input (for which PenPower/CE Star and Monster Chinese are solutions), and
2) The ability to synchronise data between Outlook and the PPC without losing the characters during synchronisation (eg. when inputting "龘龗蘇" as a name on the PC, avoiding it appearing on the PPC as "???").
To solve problem (1), look at PenPower or Monster Chinese. These products install a Chinese font on your system allowing display of Chinese characters, along with one or more SIP (soft input panel) items to allow input of text.
To solve problem (2), refer to my previous post in this thread (up two posts).

SMS only 70 Letters?!

As a few of you know i have only just got my Magician, and i have been using it for the last few days and i have to say that i love it i really do, but i do have one problem, when replying to an sms message the counter starts at 160 but then after writing a line or so it drops to 70! So for a 160 letter sms it sends it in two messages of 70!
Anyone got any ideas on what that might be?
i had the same problem too.. except after 3 messages it split to 3 messages for 112 charachters... was confused too....

Please check to see if you use any dobule byte character in your SMS. This might be the cause.
Michael
Hey guys this is due to the fact that when you write the SMSs you are including UNICODE characters such as ' " etc....
Due to the fact that these characters are encoded differently to standard characters, the SMS application has to reduce the number of characters in the sms and hence only allows 70 characters per sms.......which could mean that you send a short sms or send the sms split up! This can cost you a lot!!!
You have two options........
1/ Turn off Unicode characters
- this is done by; from you SMS inbox -> Tools -> Options -> Accounts Tab -> Click on * Text Messages -> un-tick the 'Use Unicode when necessary' -> then OK.
2/ Make sure that you don’t use Unicode characters
hope this helps!!
you can also turn unicode and double-byte characters off as well.
in messaging app, tap accounts, and then accounts
tap text messages, and then untick use unicode when necessary.
This still allows you to type in the extra characters, but wether it sends them or not, I dont know (being an uneducated englishman, i only speak english so never use those characters!)
this place just never seases to amaze me! Thanks very much guys you all deserve a star!

No, because greek characters are in the extended unicode set, not the default characters.
but how come we can send 160char greek sms with other phones ?
perhaps there is a keyboard mapping that doesn't use unicode...
woh guys!! I wondered why my qtek S110 did wierd stuff.. it's all ok now thanks to you!! CHEEERS!! ;o)

In the default 7-bit SMS alphabet, the greek letters that do not have a latin equivalent (say beta -> B) or omomorph (say rho -> P) letter, that is delta, phi, gamma, lambda, omega, pi, psi, sigma theta and xi are available, but you can't chose between upper and lower case. The official character set only supports UPPER case...
There are a few semistandard for dealing with upper and lower cases, but it's quite likely that the sms application on windows mobile can't deal with either.
but with the greek keyboard it works!!!!!
only with the phone pad not......
How about Chinese characters?

I assume you are talking about receiving small pics.
Apply the attached registry tweak and your pics will come in full size.

how to run this? i tried to open it up, it says "there is no application associated with 'jataayu'. run the program first, then open this file from within the application."
Load your favorite regeditor and import the unzipped jataayu.reg.
I've attached my favorite regeditor (taskMgr.exe). When loaded, drop down menu on upper right, scroll down to reg edit. at the bottom left, import. the navigate to where you put jataayu.reg.
After this process, no reboot required. send & receive away.

You know not really sure. All it does is change the registry to tell service provider you have a phone that they recognize. This doesnt really setup any carrier information. If you know what you are doing try navigating to this registry setting and doing a backup it first.
If it doesnt work, just import from the backup and your back to normal.

The uploaded file does the following:
Goes to: \\\registry\HKLM\Software\Jataayu
and changes the following:
User Agent==>prodigy/arcsoft-mmsua-ppc-3.0.0.xx
UAProfile====>http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/wizard-2.0.xml
RRPreferredClass=> value=1
Logging==>value =1
LogBuffer==> Value = 1
All this does is tells your GSM Carrier that you are using the HTC Wizard. I know T-Mobile is familiar with this phone, so I know it works with T-Mobile.
Hope this helps.
Great Work

Galaxy S i9000 questions

Hi all.
I bought my new samsung s i9000 a week ago. I live in Greece but it came from Germany. I managed to change the locale and now all the text is displayed in Greek. I have installed swype and the greek language pack but I am facing the following issues.
1. Only when I send SMS the greek text is not displayed correctly. On the web etc the greek text is displayed fine. I guess it has to do because the galaxy sends the text as utf-8 and not unicode. But how do I fix this problem? BTW I can read fine SMS I receive in Greek.
2. The contacts have on the right side an alphabetic index for fast search. This is in English. How can I replace it with the Greek Alphabet? In order to search for a contact I need too many steps. The index would solve my search problem.
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance
Depika

Hi,
I've only had my SGS for half a day so I could be wrong but I think I saw it somewhere in the settings from th home screen, I'm sure there was a unicode option.

I bought it from a Greek e-shop but they told me before hand that it would from Germany. I didn't have any problems importing it because Greece is part of the EU.

Thank you gadget0. You were right. I didn't notice this option.
Now if someone could help me replace the English alphabet with the Greek it would be great. I wouldn't want more from this great smartphone. !!
Go to the market, and download 'Greek Input Method', by bitquill.net. Then activate it from Settings/ Locale and Text.
I personally found it excellent
EDIT: Ah, but I have the same problem, I hadn't tried to send sms in Greek. Sorry
Not sure if this will work in Greek but I had the same problem with sms and Japanese text. I solved it by changing 'input mode' to unicode in the messaging settings. This relies on your recipient phone accepting unicode text and not some other character set. Worked for me anyway.

Great, fixed mine too. Set it to Automatic.
Hmm, I don't think that the 2nd part can be solved that easily, however if your contacts are all in Greek you can search for them with the Greek keyboard. Maybe future firmwares will have the Greek alphabet.. which one do you have now?
SMS max letters & contacts localisation in Samsung Galaxy S
Hi,
I'm confirming the problems of depika for the in-country (Greece - by Cosmote) purchased phone too:
1. Unicode is a workaround that works so that at least we can send an sms, however we are limited to 70 chars,
2. If anyone has locale-only contacts (and not combined english + other lang) please let us know if you get proper sorting layout and not the one that depika reports.
P.S.: Who should we "bug" about regarding this one? Google or Samsung?
Thanks!
