is there a way to see where a program has been installed?
pda or storage card
What operating system are you using?
If your on WM2003 and select "Install to default location" it will be installed to main memory.
If your on WM5 you should be asked to specify Device or Storage Card when you do your install.
Other than that look in either \Program Files, or \Storage Card\Program Files.
If you have Resco, look at the properties of the shortcuts in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

Doesn't seem like I can install a *.cab file to storage card, when I open it, it will install automatically into main memory\program files
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks
Use Cabinst to manage your CAB installations.

regestry change
whit a simple regestry change , it will ask you where to install it: folder,drive....
even if you do an istallation from active sync
And what is this simple registry change ?
Do tell .... don't keep it a secret
what is this change?
ok here it is:
Edit the regestry on the PPC:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Aplication Installer\
set fAskDest to "1"
if you like
Create the "Pogram Files" folder on the SD card on the root folder,
make sure that you have the ignore_my_docs file in the root driveof the SD card.
I install most of my program on the SD card.
hi alexk,
i m using mini O2. how do go to the registry by the way?

Pls advise..
thanks..
Cheers
 Chivas
I use Resco Explorer to edit my registry,
it includes the Resco Registry Editor ^^

Most programs can be run from SD card except Today Plugins
What is the benefit of running CAB's from our SD card? In otherwords, I don't have the foggiest clue what happens to a CAB once you run it apart from it installing the program etc.
A cab file is a way to install a progam.
So you can install this program wherever you want.
The benefit to install it on a SD Card is to liberate some RAM
Thanks for that
Why is this forum sooooooo sloooooow

Hi Alex, thanks for the tweak. But what do you mean by those meantioned above ? Are you saying that we can create a "Program Files" folder in SD card and install our program into it? What do you mean by root folder? Do I need to create a note pad file named as ignore_my_docs?

Calvin,
Root folder refers to the highest folder of the drive, the one where all the sub-folders reside... ie on your PC C:\
Be very carefull editing the registry, not recomended for a novice as one wrong move can leave you with a lot of trouble
Thanks for the info. I think there's nothing to do with registry in these tweak rite? For what I know from others forumer, the Ignore_my_documents file is inside the main memory. It serves the purpose whereby the ppc will ignore the "My Documents" inside the Sd card (if you created one) and only use the "My Documents" inside the main memory.
Same said they have deleted the Ignore_my_documents file in the main memory and therefore they can saved their files (themes and etc) into "My Documents" inside the Sd card in order to save some RAM.
My question is, do we need to create Ignore_my_documents file into Sd card if we are going to do so?
how can i move voice files from /tomtom/data13.chk to storage card? What is the command for registry? thx!!
Just search the regirstry key for "Tomtom" and make change to the path.
They are probably under HKLM\Software\Apps\Tomtom Voice ****
Move Tomtom Voice to SD card
I have same problem!
Have folder Navigator (with program .exe at SD) and at \tomtom folder the Voice files.
On my PPC don't exist that registry entry...
Someone can help?
Thanks

I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do but TomTom 5 will read voice files from a folder named "Voices" on the root of your SD card.
I just put my voice files in there and it finds them fine.
Tomtom voice location files
Hi Dingo,
No, my Tomtom 5 have a folder at \mydocuments\tomtom that have voice files inside!
The instalation program make this folder at this location!
What I want is move this location to SD card to free RAM memory on my XDAmini. At registry I can't locate an entry to move this location... this is my problem.
Thanks
Ok i see. I do not have any voice files there. I did not install any when i installed Tom Tom 5.
Instead i just copied my voice files to the "Voices" directory on my SD Card.
You should not need to change the registry as TT5 will always look for voice files in the Voices directory on the memory card first.
Have you tied making a "Voices" directory on your memory card and just moving the voice files to it ? This should work.
It's weird how TT behaves differently on our Magicians. The 'Voices' thing didn't work for me either, but I found out something else...
Try creating a folder on your SD card and call it Tomtom. Now move your voice files AND the files from the /program files/Navigator there. That's it! No changing the registry or whatever. Just create a link to the new location of the .exe and you are rolling!
Ahh i forgot the Tomtom dir. I have to have a dir called Tomtom also on the SD. Although i just leave this empty. This was originally to allow me to have full UK postcode search. So i already had that when i put my Voices in the Voices DIR.
If it works putting your voices in there then i would do that as it will save and extra DIR.
Install Tweaks2k.NET on your handheld,
(1) You can move some .dlls automatically from \windows to your Storage or SD card. However, you don't get to choose which dll to move. Program analyses and does it all for you. There is an UNDO button.
- best to do this when you install one program at a time so you can test and UNDO one step at a time.
Use Resco Explorer for ease of use (make sure that 'Hide hidden files including the ones in ROM' option is selected)
The folder of interest is the \windows
(2) You can move help files to your SD card
.htm files
(3) You can move .unload files (for uninstallation) to your SD card
- but remember that when you want to uninstall an application
eg. MortPlayer, you need to copy back the file MortPlayer.unload to
\windows to uninstall it
(4) You can move \windows\appmgr files .dll to your SD card
- if you want to uninstall or reinstall an app, remember to move that
specific app .dll file back to \appmgr
Install Valksoft Space Reclaimer
(5) set it to run at every soft reset. It will autoclean your temp folders, ie folders, old files and registry during startup.
I managed to free up at least 5MB using those steps. My RAM is pretty much trimmed although I was a bit peeved when the MMS software took up 3MB of RAM (I tried to install on the SD card, but the files need to be installed in RAM).
Is there any way or registry hack, to specify an alternate folder where WM will take the Themes (.tsk files)?
I know WM by default searches the '\Windows' and '\My Documents' folders, as well as their subfolders.
However I'd like to store my Themes in a folder located at the Storage Card, in order to save PDA memory space.
Doesn't it already do that? I've got several themes sat on my storage card and they show up when I go into Today properties. However, I believe they do need to be on the ROOT of the card, not in a folder.
Cheers
Ant
Thanks, I'll check it.
However my intention was excatly to put them into a dedicated subfolder on the Storage Card.
And that still needs a solution, if I do not want to use some 3rd party Themes Manager.
Correct! It works, if .tsk files get copied to Storage Card root.
However not really what I'm looking for :?
Thanks! Something new learnt anyway
Hey Guys,
I have downloaded and installed some programs to my HD2's internal memory by mistake (I was a newbie). Now, it is full of programs and i am running out of memory.
I want to move all of the program files to storage card. I tried cut and paste. However, this time, wm gives error saying it cannot find the path for the program.
Is there a way which allows me to move files directly to the storage card instead of removing and reinstalling?
Thanks
a couple of programs are only installed in a subdirectory and linked from Startmenu to this folder.
No problem to move this subdirectory to the storage card and change the link in the startmenu. (using resco explorer, for example)
but if a program is using the windows-mobile-registry (or an own INI-File) you have to change all the items from this program - it's almost impossible ...
the best way - if you don't know how voluminous the program is - to deinstall the program and reinstall the program at storage card.
Thanks, I could not think also copying shortcut to startmenu folder. My problem will be solved, most probably, at that time.
Edit: I installed resco explorer, but I could not find how to specify shortcut while in start menu? Can you please help?
