Can it be that your HERMES is NET locked? I can't see another reason why it did not work in Vietnam! We are talking here about a QUAD BAND GSM + UMTS/3G device ...
Unlike SIM LOCK a NET LOCKED device accepts any SIM card but lets you use only one particular network. In this case the HERMESUnlocker should do ... !

I want hero/g2 touch

djunio over at Android Community forums posted this today - might help

hey vonne thats cool but i never heard of them are they a wireless company? i much rather buy an unlock or do some of the things i said in the original message
you can buy unlocked phones off ebay. i sell some there. if you buy the Sprint I don't think it will work on Tmobile even if you unlock it because Sprint uses CDMA and Tmobile is GSM. If you buy an unlocked GSM phone it should work on Tmobile. I had a different unlocked GSM phone while i was in the US this summer and it worked fine.
ok csasek but im talking bout the hero/ G2 touch not any other phone i jus want that one there so many smart people that hav info on this phone an none can help me?
the only place you can get it unlocked is on ebay for about $550, and yes it will work in the US...any other specific questions
You are aware that the G2 Touch will not work with 3G in the US? If you buy one, you will be restricted to EDGE at best. As has been already stated, the Sprint Hero can never work with T-Mobile US at all.

Dave

why doesn't the Hero work with US 3G? what frequencies/technology do ATT & Tmobile us for 3G? I thought that Tmobile was using WCDMA/ HSDPA which should be compatible and that ATT uses HSDPA too.
I honestly don't know what all these things mean so if you could provide some insight I would really appreciate it. Since I sell these on ebay I like to be able to answer these types of questions.

Yes they do, but the important thing here is that these services can be offered over several different frequencies.
The "worldwide" Hero (as opposed to the Sprint one) only supports 3G (HSPA/WCDMA) at 900Mhz and 2100Mhz.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html
T-Mobile US's 3G network runs at 1700MHz, and ATT's 3G at 1900MHz. Neither of these 3G bands are supported by the radio in the GSM Hero, so you are stuck with 2G/EDGE speeds.
Regards,
Dave
Thank you very much for the explanation
im sure there is a radio update in the development section somewhere???
this would alow US users to have 3G but they would require root in order to flash the new radio
There is no radio ROM update at present which will make US 3G bands available, and there is no evidence as yet that this is a ROM and not a hardware restriction.
If I were interested in pursuing this further, I'd probably enquire in the Magic forums if it possible to flash a MyTouch 3G radio onto a European Magic to get 3G working with T-Mobile US.
Regards,
Dave
So what phone should i get? the out of staste on with chin? or the sprint one? dont care for looks cuz im ok with both jus sayin most price efficient and easier to unlock

anything i need to worry about before getting the HD2 from US

hello all
it costs around $900 here and it will cost half that unlocked from t-mobile on the 24th. is there anything i need to worry about before ordering it for a friend from the states and using it here (Saudi Arabia). we use 2100mhz+900mhz for our 3G band so it should work fine here
anything else i need to worry about before i order it?
i dont think it'll work on saudi 3g, Tmobile uses 1700/2100, not 900. you need both bands to work
are you sure about the two bands thing
i had a t-mobile HTC G1 and 3G worked fine
that's odd, because phones that only share the 2100 band do not work on Tmobile. Perhaps its different the other way around.
the 3g of the g1 (1700/2100) and the Nexus1 (900/1700/2100) both work on our STC/mobily network. i assume the US-HD2 will be the same but i could be wrong cant anybody else confirm. i cant possibly be the only here intrested taking advantage of the US super cheap price
Well, you are not alone but I don't think anybody can confirm one way or another with 100% accuracy. I for one will buy it and then try to use it in Europe (i.e. 2100 MHz UMTS). Like you I've noticed that G1 has exactly the same specs for the radio. It also makes sense that HTC and T-mobile would like to support international roaming. All being said, there is always a chance that things are different this time. I tried to contact both HTC and T-mobile and I received contradictory answers. The only way to be sure is to try it or wait for somebody to report real-world use cases
anyone managed to test this yet?

TMOUS HD2 Unlocked used in Europe

Anyone in Europe using a unlocked TMOUS HD2??
How is it, call quality, 3G/H??
+1 to the request for information on 3G.
I am looking to buy an HD2 and need it to work both in the US and Europe. Originally thought of the T9193, but since the TMOUS version is so much easier to pay for, I am seriously considering it.
Theoretically, it should work in Europe as well due to its support in the 2100 band. However, I could not get a definite answer on whether this is indeed the case or whether some deeper technical differences will not allow it to receive 3G anywhere else in the world...
Any information on this is highly appreciated. Thanks!
its should work with no problems, the u.s. band includes european and other contries but the others dont work for the u.s. band
correct me if i'm wrong, but theoretically, having only a single umts band abailable (2100 for example) means a phone won't do HSDPA, correct? Only single band 3g?
I'ma wait till someone tried it

But, i have seen from here that the providers in Asia/Gulf are using only single band for 3G/HSPDA(2100)
so...no one knows yet? the waiting is killing me
I also found this thread that didn't really solve the puzzle
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645489
Am grateful for any ideas on how to verify this before buying!
It surely does
I'll report back on how the T-MoUS HD2 works on 3G (2100) in Norway when I receive it..
What about Europe...

Awesome. I'll be going to Europe on May 14th.
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to get a local SIMs card in Europe with a data plan for a reasonable price?

Is your phone unlocked?
Are Indian sim cards working?
If they are, then the phone will work normally in Canada too.
