Yer dead up Jarjar, jaz jar or however its pronounced! >&
I'm an XDA2i person and am deliberating if I should go for a Universal or not right now....
in your case I'd say it was time to send it back via the place you bought it from ad get a warranty repair. If you have insurance you may want to give them a call and see what they say about replacing it.
Sounds like a hardware fault (theres nothing really 'mechanical' inside these machines) maybe a dodgy connection or dry solder joint etc. I say this because it 'worked' before and 'now isnt working' which means 'something' has changed.
Another alternative would be to find one of the service centre's for PDA's etc and get them to diagnose and fix the problem...
Hope you can get it sorted!
Dennis! West London UK!!
Thanks Dennis...I bought it at expansys..and i really don't know if they have services like that...i'll try to contact them...bah...!!thanks again

Hi guys,
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had a problem with their exec's touch screen in that mine has completely stopped responding. The hardware buttons and keyboard work perfectly, I have tried a hard reset, taken the battery out etc and still nothing. It's odd as it must have stopped working at some point today, but it has been sat in my desk all day so nothing has damaged it to my knowledge. It's really bizarre! Anyhow, O2 have said they're sending a new one out, just got 3-5 working days without my Exec now. It's very odd and I just wondered if anyone else had had trhe same thing happen?
Cheers,
Fin
Sounds like a ROM-related issue. Have you tried a newer ROM (if there is a newer one already)?
I thought it might be software related, but to be honest there is no new ROM I can flash it with (and not invalidate the warranty, since I wouldn't be able to flash it back with the original O2 ROM when I send it back). It's really strange, as it has been working for nearly two weeks absolutely brilliantly and now it has decided to suddenly stop.
Thanks for your reply,
Fin
Anytime, hope you can get it to work again .
I just purchased an Exec yesterday and have been having similar issues with the touchscreen since I first turned it on.
After a while it does work again, but every now and then it stops working, The hardware buttons still work, so the phone is still responding.
Triggers that seem to cause this problem include starting a program, flipping the screen or looking at the phone with an odd look.
When running the update from the my-xda site it already is at that version, so I see no need in patching.
I take it this is a hardware issue that I cannot fix so will be needing to replace the unit?

I have the exact same problem on my m5000, stops working intermitently. Spoke to premier have a brand new handset on its way tommorow morning between 9-1. Not bad service free replacemeant and a brand new sealed box, so extra accesorys minus charger and battery.
Must be a common fault then. Mine started working again suddenlt the day before my new one arrived which was pretty annoying, although by peoples' experience here, it was probably only a matter of time before it packed up again. I have had my replacement a while now and it has so far been working perfectly.
At the moment it can't decide if its working or not.
It seems a couple of flips between landscape & portrait seem to get things working again.
I'll give it the weekend. See how it handles. Then most likely Monday I'll try get it replaced.
What do you reckon the best course of action would be? Go into the O2 shop and see if they'll swap it for a replacement, or contact O2 and get them to send me one.
Since there's always the chance the shop has a batch of duff phones.
I have a peculiar problem here. My O2 XDA Exec was working fine until one day suddenly the D-Pad/nav-pad UP action started automatically and now it runs continuously . So that no matter which application I run, the UP action is automatically emulated. I simply can't use the device. I have soft reseted , Hard reseted and when all failed upgraded the device to WM6 but the problem is still there. I don't know what the problem is. If it can't be fixed, can I some how disable the D-Pad button? Need help, thanks.
You might have something shorting the contacts, if even a hard-reset didn't remove the error. You might have to take it apart to see the problem, or take it to a repair center(not your provider, they will most probably say the warranty has been voided by the WM6 upgrade) to have it fixed...
Good luck with it!
Thanks for the reply, this is what I was afraid of. It will be difficult to get it repaired at a center because there are not many around who can do it well. Since I donot use the D-Pad that much, disabling it by any registry tweak would do for me for the time being, any suggestion on that. Thanks again.
You'll have to ask someone more knowledgeable than me for that...
the buttons are identified by a seemingly meaningless string in the registry, and god only knows which is "D-pad Up". I'm not sure you can even do such as thing in the registry.
It should be easier to remove the lid, disassemble it, and take a good look inside to see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be. You should be able to see the screws if you turn the lid 90 degrees, and from there, it should be a piece of steak...
Good luck!
Uni D-PAD
Hi, Did you get the uni to the service centre ? did it fix your problem
coz, mine is having the same problem too :-(
I was using my phone today and all was working ok, till about 2:30 when I wanted to place a call, and nothing was working anymore.
Apart from the Circle wheel that works , the Call, End, Both Soft Keys, Ok,Windows, Comm Manager Buttons do not work. All of them just stopped working at once. ALL OF THEM.
I thought maybe it was too hot, I turned off the phone for 20 mins and still no go. I have never dropped my phone, not in water, nothing. Have had it for like 3 months now. Could this be software related? Please my phone is basically useless now, as I use the physical keyboards more than I do the touch screen.
Please Help me out
Desperate here please
please people I desperate here. Anyone ever experienced this? I have read most forums and there seems to be no option but to return the phone and get a new one, but I hav no insurance. I called HTC but they were closed. Please any input. I am lost here
htc wont repair or replace your phone. youll need to call ut starcomm and they will repair it for free. if you get mad enough you can even get them to send it back in a couple days. other than that i dont think their is anything that can be done about it. ive never heard of this happening before

Actually it seems to be a common problem with the Mogul, here is a thread that talks only about it
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1179470/Mogul+buttons+stopped+working??t=anon
I was shocked myself that problems like this is out there and am not aware. I would have opted for another brand of phone, maybe Touch. Guess I am one of the unlucky ones. Hope everyone learns from me, coz there seems to be no solution ( yet) . Not even HTC.
Well...
This isn't a hardware problem...
It's definitely software... Somewhere...
Hard resets work (requiring pressing and holding of 2 soft buttons) and bootloader mode works (pressing and holding the camera button...)
While the OS is up (flashed a few roms), none of the buttons (other than power, scroll wheel, and D-pad) work at all.
So... hardware wise, the buttons work.
Anyone want to look further into this?
I just got my mogul off Ebay - it was stuck in bootloader mode...
Ran "ExitBL" and no go on the buttons...
What all does ExitBL do?
Anyone else having button problems run this in the past?
Have you tried flashing stock oem carrier rom to the phone to fill in missing registries?
send it back to the seller and get your money back.
Hi All,
I've had a bad "tech" day today Walked into work, put my laptop down and dropped my X1a . I'm 6'4" so its a pretty long way to drop even if its on to carpet. Sure enough, turned my phone on and the LCD wont turn on anymore although I hear the expected sounds etc
It is under warranty since it was bought at a Sony Style store out here in Massachusettes but the issue is that I had a custom ROM on it and without the screen turning on, I wont be able to replace it with the stock SPL, Radio, FW etc etc..
So my question is, do I even bother sending this thing in or do I spend the coming weekend disassembling this thing in the vague hope that I can fix it.
Anyone got some wisdom to offer on this?
Thanks much!
well u dont need the screen to be on to flash it , and hardspl i dont think they will check it for a physical damage fix
dl a stock rom and flash it with sd methood
Thanks... I guess I'll have to call in and see what the repair process is like.. Any idea on the average round trip time from me sending it in to getting it back repaired?
It took me 3 weeks to get mine back
Lol
I can relate to that, I'm 6/4 myself and havnt had one phone I havnt yet dropped, except my Xperia, but my girlfriend fixed that one when taking it off me while I was getting my new born nephew out of the car, so I hadnt o choice but to let the phone hit the floor when she dropped it. Couple of nasty scratches on the front casing and a really annoying one on the screen but I will have to live with it, I can neither take it out on her or the fact i had the littlun in my arms.
Anyway, to flash the SPL is probably the most difficult, but still simple, it just needs to be in USB mode (VOL-+POWER) from off and do the rest from PC. As for radio/ROM, use the SD method, requires only 1 button press which is the power button I think to confirm and then you're good to go.
It may end up stuck at connection setup or something, but they wont care, and if they do you just say you had sensitive data on there and had to hard reset before service.
As for timing I don't know, I'm yet to take mine in over the keyboard problem because I can't do without the phone a the moment.
I had same problem with screen, and they didnt take it under warranty because dropped me and flat cable gone. Took it to SE service, 40$ and two days work...
Does the service center check the SPL? I sent it twice w/0 changing to stock spl with no problems.
send it... dont tell them you dropped it unless you can tell that it was dropped. you got nothing to lose except a bill telling you what it would cost to fix it.
Mate, there is an other help to your case.
There is program for PC called "Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.1".
Download a trial (works for 30 days I think) and you will be able
to see what would be on the phone screen on your computer.
I used that to backup all my mails when my screen was broken.
You just have to have that program, connect your phone via USB
and you will be able to see the screen on your computer.
If you don't really get me, or you have further questions -just ask!
probably u could fake them by telling them it didnt work since this morning... blah blah blah

It rarely pays to lie to the person taking your phone apart; they can almost always tell you're lying. Not telling, however; that's not the same as lying ;D
