MP3's as Ringtones? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I have copied over some MP3's onto my MDA and would like to use them as ring tones however I am anable to see them in the list when I try to assign the new tones. Does anyone know how to do this?

OK, here's what you do.... You move your mouse to the area above your post in this thread. You will notice in blue writing a button called "Search" (it has a little magnifying glass beside it, just in case you get confused). Now click on this button. In the search box you type MP3 RINGTONE and choose the option to match all words.
Now go through the list of dozens of posts made by people asking the same question. You will have no problems finding your answer and if you did this first you wouldn't have to wait for a sarcastic reply like mine.

many appologies - thanks for help - though 1 liner saying "use search - existing topic" would have been adequate

Just copy the Mp3 file to the /Windows/Rings folder and you should now see them in the list.

I'd love every newby finding out simple things (the easy or the hard way, doesn't matter) contributing by creating a Wiki page...

Changing Sounds of Notifications - such as "Message Sen

I searched the registry, found nothing, searched through some folders and found nothing either.
So as the subject says, is it possible to change these types of sounds? I've got some great sounds in mind. E.g. the sonic the hedgehog ring, for this event in particular.
... For new text I have the sonic 2 - 1 up sound
If you could help that would be great!
Hay there, yep this can be done, thou first you need the new message or notifcation clip to be a .wav file type, so you need to convert the items to wav first.
Once you done that place the newly converted wav file into the windows folder, not into windows>rings like you would do for ringtones.
Then goto settings, and notifcation and sound menu and select the new one there.
Hope this helps.
Ooo
I've been trying to figure this out, how could I change the sound that plays in my ear for callwaiting? lol i feel stupid because I can't figure this out!!!
Thanks!
Yup, I am not too happy in this realm as well. My busy tone sounds like a Modem that is trying to handshake, and that is when it decides that it is going to alert me. I would really like to swap out some of that stuff.
I beleive my expertise will come in handy here
There are many sounds which can be changed which ARE NOT visible in the "Sounds And Notifications" control panel. They can be accessed by pointing your reg editor of choice to...
"HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Sounds"
We'll take the busy tone as an example...
Navigate to "HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Sounds\BusyTone"
In there you'll see:
(Default)..................(value not set)
Catagory..................InCall
Script.......................apr
Sound......................HTCBusy.wav
Change the sound one to any file on your pda. (Must be an mp3 or a wave file) (Include the full path if the sound file isn't in "/windows") The changes should take effect immediately, if they don't you've not done it correctly...
Hope this helps you all...
Note: To my knowledge, you can't change the message sent tone, sorry...

um...for what/where?

PS Generic answer: sure!
Yes. But first, a suggestion (actually two):
You'll get a much better/faster response if you make your thread title more descriptive... "T-Mobile MDA" could mean anything! And in a forum dedicated to this device, it's sort of redundant.
And for the second suggestion... well, not to give you grief, but your question is *very* basic. You could probably figure it out by reading the manual, or poking around on your MDA. Not a subject really worthy of its own thread.
That said, here's the answer:
Go into Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications. There are two tabs; play around with what you see there. You can set sounds to most things that you do or that happen on your MDA. If you have a custom or special sound that you want, copy the sound file into the My Documents folder on your MDA; and then you will be able to select it in the Play Sound selection box on the Notifications tab.
Okay, sorry about the title, newbie issue.
But please don't assume that I haven't read the manual. Yes I have already done numberous times what you have suggested, I have plenty of files, but for some reason custom files are only compatible for ring tones. So unless you can provide me new information without being condescending as to the simplicity of the question, then don't provide anything.
Sorry for my tone, it just goes back to the saying about assuming.
New sms Tones
What you need to do is to put the sound you are after, in the form of a wav file into the windows folder on your device. It then appears in the drop down list in "Sounds & Notifications".
You can get some good tones from http://www.spbclub.com/index.php . You will need to register but they also have some great tips there to.
Hope this is of use.
OK, sorry... I really didn't mean to condescend or patronize.
Ixtana's post was good: Have you tried WAV files instead of MP3s?

Getting sounds into the menu in Sounds & Notifications

Hi all,
Maybe a silly question, but I did a search and couldn't find anything really
I'm trying to get a sound into the drop down menu in (sounds & notifications) the notifications tab.
It was a MP3 file, which I have converted to a wav file, but this still won't be picked up by the menu
I have the O2 XDA Mini S...
Any help most appriciated
put them into \Windows
Cheers hanmin...jobs done
Another noob question please...
is it possible to attach a ringtone sound to a contact...I know you can add a voice tag, but I want to attach different ring sounds to different name contacts
In WINDOWS/rings add your ringtone clip there. Then in contacts, when you edit or make a new contact, just below the name it says picture, then work, cell, etc numbers, then ringtone...click that and a list should pop up for you to choose from. Keep your ringtones to about 20 second clips, and reduce the size to 100-200kb per clip. I found these things work best, and I've been making ringtones for a few years now.
akashastrega, that brill...many thanks for your help.
Just got a sound that says "warning, warning, its the wife, its the wife" with a siren in the background...absolute brilliant

[Q] TF3D Music player - How to hide ringtones/alarms?

I've read this before somewhere but I'm unable to find the thread relating to this query.
Is there a way to hide ringtones/alarms etc from the TF3D music player? I'm sick and tied of having to scroll through tonnes of alarms & ringtones etc just to find a certain song. Obviously I know you can create a playlist, but I know there is a way of hiding these files, but can't remember how it was done or which thread it was in.
I believe it may have something to do with either changing the registry so files can be hidden in certain folders or to move the files to a certain location.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanx
No one any ideas?
This annoys me to no end too. Listening to some White Zombie and Korn and all of a sudden some fruity ringtone pops in. Argh!

Only solution I have found is the obvious one. Create Playlists!
Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491296&page=2
I posted an idea, though I haven't had the chance to test it (busy...really busy), though feel free to test it, shouldn't take much longer than 5-10 min, and do post if it worked or not
good luck

I believe the solution is using a reg editor to create a folder called "Ignore" in the respective TF3D music player. In the new key, add a 'string value' for your description (name of folder would do nicely). More importantly, set the "Data" to the full path of the folder to be ignored (something like "Storage Card\Ringtones")
My only query is where is the respective TF3D music player in the registry?
Is it HKLM/Software/HTC/AudioManager_Eng???

New user of WM- Guide for dummies

Let me start by saying that what a great site you have here and i have seen how helpful and knowldgeable poeple you are.
I hope you can help me with my new Touch pro 2 that i bought for my girlfriend.
Here is what we would like to know.
Info:using wm 6,5 original with htc sence. look like htc hd2 without the icons
1. Can you download a file to have icons in the start menu instead of the boring call history and calender text in the start meny ?
2. how and where do you put the mp3 you would like to use as ringtones ?
3. where and how do one setup a ringtone for sms ? where to find it in the meny (not easy let me tell you) and´i want to ouse my sd card for everything. Do i need to create a folder with some name or something ?
4. I i have a picture/wallpaper and i want to use it, how do one do that ? where to put it in the SC card so it can bee seen in wallpapaer section in the phone.
4. how can one put pictures from PC to phone and see them in the gallery ? I transferd them to the memory root and i can not see them. do you need to create a folder with a name ?
5. how to add a ringtone for each individual person ?
6. here to find and put owner name in the device. ?
Please feel free to add new and modify my questions to help other new users to the Windows Phone.
Thanks
1. no
2. "\application data\sounds\"
3. Go to "Settings" tab, tap "Sound", tab "Advanced", go to "Notification" tab. Adjust accordingly.
4. Go to "Settings" tab, tap "Wallpaper", browse to your photo, and just set it.
5. You need to browse to them.
6. You can set a unique ringtone for each contact via edit contact screen...
Do you even have the device? Sounds like either you don't have it or you haven't used it. Please read the manual and quick start guide that came with the device. And do experiment with the device...
Hi, And Yes i have it in my hand and yes a read the manula = Crap.
its a biggstep from beeing a nokia user and now a wm user.
For the ringtone. i would like o have it in my sd card so with everything else.
i found \application data\sounds\" in my device and i realy dont want to use that space. is it possible to have the mp3 in the sd card and still use it as a ringtone if i create a folder with some fancy nema ?
3. i would like to choose my own ringtone for sms and i can only find preloaded one with the phone, at the location you mentioned.
4. for wallpapers. you have to click on Album and then choose memory card to see the pics. Thank You =)
5. i have to say that you are missing the point of the Dummy giude...
please put more effort to the answers. in contacts i can not select a ringtone for any one.
Wait. you have to copy the contacts from the sim to phone and now you can select many things. But still there is the ringtone that is preloaded boring tones that comes with the phone.
same here, where do you pu the mp3 yi like so it can bee seen in the list of the phone ringtone ?
2. Found this when I searched "ringtone folder". I can't verify that it works, since I have no need for it. Be wary of this post in that thread. It makes sense...
3. Try the link suggested above first. If it works, you should be able to place your SMS audio files in there as well; and it should be selectable as SMS notification.
5. Trying to be helpful. You want to assign a custom ringtone to a contact. So intuitively, you should look where you would edit the contact. Don't think anybody (dummy or not) needs a guide for this. For selecting your own ringtone, see above link.
