Works for me on the 3 network in Australia.
ok for those interested. My xda exec ariived from o2 this morning and first thing I did ws test my "3" sim and it works!!!! well voice works i dont know how to configure it for data and browsing for 3. Bu at least it means loads of talktime for me!!!
If the UK is the same as Australia, then to configure it for internet access set the access point to '3netaccess' and the username to 'a' and the password to 'a'.

Hi there..
I have just bought an XDA which is on the vodaphone network
They say they do NOT support the XDA , and wont give ma an access point name or any other info...REALLY useful..
can anyone here give me the access details for Vodaphone UK ...the Sim is GPRS , and was working fine in a Pogo communicator (dont ask <g>) but that did not seem to require the details that the XDA does...
anyone with that info?
I need the details of APN , which I THINK is *99# user web pass web , but that does not seem to work , it connects with the string +0 ~GPRS!*99# and fails...
help ! LOLOL
cheers

Hi,
I unlocked my XDA for Vodafone. The APN I use is "internet" without quotes. When dialling into GPRS the user name is "web" and the password is "web", both without quotes. In system>settings>connections>dialling locations goto dialling patterns - local calls and international calls have just "G" without quotes. In long distance have nothing. That worked for me.
Genius!!
that worked...I am eternally grateful...
No thanks to Vodaphone!
all the best

Well it's about time I gave something back instead of take, take, take...
Pleased I could help.
One of our guys got the XDA2 from O2 partly so he could get his email and browse the web while travelling. We assumed that by now O2 would have GPRS deals set up with most of the world's telcos. But not so. They have voice deals with most of the Middle East countries but not GPRS. Is this because these countries have not yet rolled out GPRS or simply that O2 haven't negotitaed a deal yet. Second question - if say Omantel has got GPRS, can he buy a cheapo phone there and subscribe for their GPRS access, but swap the SIM card into his XDA 2 while he is in Oman
Mike
sorry but what is the question if there are any ?

Hi Rudeguy  here they are again then:

...... since the forum is called 'Using it' I thought these reasonable questions to ask.
Thanks Mike
if o2 dont have a grps roaming deal with the country or if they dont have grps i dont know sorry
if they do have grps then he should be able to get a valid sim for their network and put it in his xda without any problems (in that way it works just like any other callphoene)
but of cause new grps, mms and wap settings would most likely be typed in manualy
about the question thing then well i suppose i just skim'd the text looking for the ? sign
OK ... that sounds promising. But what's this 'locked/unlocked' thing I keep seeing? Is it that straightforward to put in a different SIM card, or have O2 somehow locked the XDA2 to their network?
Question marks included this time .... last post was from my XDA2 ... it doesn't have question marks
Mike
The xda2 usually comes locked to the network you purchased it from. You can use xda2unlock from this forum to open your phone to all networks, try clicking the shift key on your xda2 keyboard, you might be surprised and see a ????? key.
Has anyone managed to get a tytn working on the uk o2 network? o2 say theu do not support the phone although they have the phone in germany listed as an xda trion. I can make calls and texts with my simcard but have no 3g access as yet. The phone was originally on vodaphone. Any help appreciated !
dont you just need to edit the connection settings for o2?
these should be the same for any o2 phone that uses 3g...
i believe they are posted on the wiki
thanks for quick answer
Thats what i thought, but phoned o2 for the settings and they just kept saying that the "software" in this phone is not compatible with o2 network and therefore there is no support for it and no settings ! MUPPETS !
Any idea where i can find the settings for a normal o2 phone?
Worth a try, I really want this phone on o2 !

I smell COW DUNG!!!! O2 are spinning rubbish to you sir...ive been using a TyTN since the middle of August with O2-UK (see stats hehehe).
Il get my settings into a .txt file for you...theres some variations you can use but il set you up with the ones that work ok??
What are you on PAYG or Contract???
P.S: My TyTN is a genuine HTC TyTN (i.e not a varioII or imate JASJAM variation of it) bought it unbranded(unlocked) from mobilefun.co.uk....sim free.
Theres a cab file with the O2 UK settings somewhere on this forum I usen it all the time. Sorry I don't have the link anymore after the XDA Dev switch to new servers. Also O2 3G works perfectly fine with the tytn. What you do have to have is a 3G enabled sim card, I had to get mine changed for one & also do you have O2 3G coverage where you are? To determine if you have just whip out the sim card & it should have 3G printed on it.
Yer if your SIM is not a 3G enabled one (USIM) then give O2 a bell and say you have recently aquired a 3G handset and need a new SIM card for it to work with the 3G service....they should send one out (for free)...when it turns up just call O2 again and get them to enable it.
What they said about the TyTN not being supported is a crock of sh*t .... im guessing they will only give you the settings when its an O2 handset!?
Forgot to add the O2 3G settings are exactly the same as the normal GPRS. You just need a 3G enabled sim card
Can someone please help me in answering a niggling question I have about the TyTn (Hermes), before I go out and buy one. Firstly has anyone used their machines with a 3 sim?????
I have searched but cant find this being asked or answered anywhere.
yes gprs and utms and regular calls sms/mms are no problem at all.
But the services at three´s portal like music etc dont work 100% :S but i can take that...

ok cheers for the answer mate, but i notice that your not in the uk and this questions mainly concerned the 3 network here in the uk mate and also the reason why I asked is because I saw this advert for the VPA Compact III, which my understanding was the same machine but he states that it cant be used with 3??? thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Shabba,
I'm sure I put a 3 SIM in mine the other day without a problem, however i've had a few drinks since then and can't fully remember. I'll try mine tomorrow with a 3 SIM but there should be no reason it shouldn't work if it's unlocked.
I'll update you tomorrow.

Cheers Gav, Please let us all know mate. So why is this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VODAFONE-VPA-...ryZ38331QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
stating its not compatible???? totally confused!!!!
Yeah I don't get it either. There should be no reason why the TyTn can't connect to the 3 network as it's either WCDMA for 3 or GSM for O2 (Soon to be Orange) when there is no WCDMA coverage and the TyTN is able to use both. The only thing possibly is the 3 SIM card might be a UICC but I'd be very surprised if this is causing problems as Vodafone D2 and UK both use UICC too (basically a smart card with both USIM and SIM profiles stored).
Maybe it's as Closetland says that some 3 services are unavailable so he just says it doesn't work full stop?
Let me check for you tomorrow. I've got both a SPV M3100 (unlocked) and a T-Mobile Vario II I can try.

Trying to get my damn 3 SIM working - they have all been deactivated!!! Bloody company account departments...
Update soon..
Gav.
UPDATE:
I've got one 3 SIM which does register onto 3 but when i make a call I get the message 'Your service does not allow access to this number' so the call is being setup correctly. This is the exact same behaviour as having the SIM in the original LG phone.
Gav.
Brilliant. Thanks for all your help Gav. Now to look for the best deal around for one of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't Three in the UK stock the Dopod 838pro? They are starting to here in Oz.
Hi Shabba,
If you haven't taken the plunge already then some more info for you. I've got a working 3 SIM now and making and receiving calls OK. Don't have all the GPRS settings for 3 so didn't test that.

Hi topher1976, no they dont mate, infact it was only recently perhaps in the last year or so that they decided to release phones that weren't the size of bricks. The only phone they've release over here that slightly resembles a PPC was the Motorola a1000 and then a later but similar Motorola model both of which were huge and based on symbian UIQ operating system which is a bit poooh!!!

Firstly this is my first PDA so bear with me
I have just got a O2 XDA Atom
I have a prepaid Vodaphone sim which i use
I connected them up and got onto vodaphone to get it setup for GPRS
After an hour or so on the phone, we can seem to connect to them via GPRS but it will not load any web pages. They then informed me that the phone doesnt supposed WAP and so i cannot use it with there GPRS?
Is this true ? what are my options ? Its a lot of money to spend so i can use excel etc
Thanks for any help
Jason
Can anyone help me?
ive had the same problem with vodafone, have you tried a diffrent sim card in it? with mine think theres something up with my sim because any other vodafone sim works fine!
I am in a different country but I have had this problem with my local vodafone before. The sales people know nothing about gprs and other data services. I have been very clear to them an stated what I want to use a service for and after being assured everything is fine still nothing works. In the end for me the solution with vodafone was to move to a billed account. After that (and a phone call to activate it) all wap and gprs worked fine.
