Hi,
I know this has been discussed before in the past, but perhaps any of you know of the current status of this issue:
Is it possible to stream video from the Universal's videocam to a PC, in other words: to do a videocall from PPC to PC?
Is there any (new) info yet on whether the videocam can only be used for UMTS-calls due to a hardware or software limitation?
Thanks.
Or MSN Messenger?
I am still on my search for a video-enabled IM application for the Universal. Does anyone know whether using the videocam is even possible using anything else but the dedicated UMTS-based operator video call function?
(As T-Mobile sells the MDA Pro in The Netherlands, but does not offer UMTS yet, this key feature of their product is of no use to their clients now)
look for microsoft portrait
not sure if the cam is supported though
the himalaya cam was not

If you are in North America or elsewhere that doesn't take advantage of the JasJar's 3G capabilities, I am wondering if the built in WebCam can be used for other things like, well, a WebCam But over Wifi or GPRS or whatever, not 3G. I would assume you would need software that can find and use the camera, but I don't know if there's any way to do it. Anyone heard anything about this possibility?
I keep meaning to try MS Portrait to see if it can be used on the Jas Jar with the VGA cam. Has anyone tried it yet?
I guess if you could compile vlc on this plateform, you could stream the webcam through the wifi or even record it.
VLC play lot of differents file it's worth to spend 5h to get the right option for the compilation.
(for those who don't know VLC it's an open-source software and free )

Yes, I tried. No success on behalf of missing camera driver.
Incoming video and sound is ok. Has anyone hacked the camdrv.dll / CameraDriver.dll ?
MS, pls. spend MS Portrait 2.4 !
Greetings, Gerd Dubrand MDA pro
I have the O2 Trion and have had very few issues, apart from not waking up from sleep mode about twice a week, however is there anyone out there who can help with a feature that I would like to do:
I would like to use the front Video Cam with Skype.
Any feedback would be great.
I think we'd all like to do this... probably will require a special/new version of Skype for the Hermes...
... or the Skype team needs to find the WM5 SDK.
I don't know anything about this, other then to say that from what I understand, the normal photo camera (back) is accessible through API, but the front camera (self portrait) isn't. But that's only a hunch based on the Universal.

Ah! I think you're right about this...
Well, hopefully Skype finds a way...
skype support for hemrems coming up in september: http://www.ateksoft.com/de/download.html
So I have my lovely Tytn with it's front facing camera, and a microphone on the bottom... bit like a PC with a webcam and a mike. When I use my PC, I can have instant messenger chats with my friends using audio and video. Is there an app for WM5 which does this- typing is all very well and good, but when the hardware for sound and video is there, seems a shame not to use it.
Any ideas, anyone?
Oh yeah, and I have thought about the perenial (a) it takes too much bandwidth or (b) just get a video call enabled SIM. Bandwidth-wise, I used to conference call with video from my PC using a 56k modem, and as for (b), well I want to call people running MSN messenger on PCs, 'cos no one I know actually uses a 3G phone with video capabilities (apart from me!!).
Thanks all!
Cool Camera again...
Did you Try Cool Camera? Windows Live Messenger Mobile don't support the c front cam.
THE FIRST OFFICIAL APPLICATION THAT WILL SUPPORT THE FRONT CAMERA WILL BE SKYPE 2.5 FOR WINDOWS MOBILE AKU 3.5
Thanks! I'll give Cool Camera a go... hopefully it'll do what I want it to; I assume I won't be able to have a "full" video call (eg see the other person)?
Here's one stupid question.
Altrough the camera seems to be ok in terms of hardware drivers i can't seem to find any utility to start it neither in control pannel or anywhere else. I cannot use it in yahoo messenger or similar services. Can someone enlight me about that camera?
camera does work , but only in MSN messenger
I played with the camera too...
The only program that recognizes the camera, and uses it OK , is MSN (live) messenger.
X-Lite (Voip Software with camera option) usually detects any camera I got.
However, on the Shift, no joy !
Also, another program called WinTLV (Superb windows time lapse recording software)
does not see the camera.
Drivers...drivers...drivers.... c'mon HTC .. supply us with new ones

With the program Active Webcam from Py Software can use the build-in Shift camera.. You can do video and photo
yep the Active Web Cam program works. I've tested it yesterday without any problems. However the program can't facilitate the usage of the camera with other programs.
I want to run the camera alone to take photo, do you guys know any good software out there with good and clean interface which does this job?
I use Dorgem v2.1.0 it's a small and freeware software.

Nice little camera app. Thanks.
Yu can use this one too

I had the same problem of the camera showing as installed but not recognised by MSN, Skype, etc. So I just deleted the driver (from Device manager). Windows then rediscovered it and then it worked fine!
I have been using "cheese" on ubuntu. it has preview and can be used to capture video or still pictures.

This one is more than capable. The one posted earlier on page 1 (can't remember what it's called) has been discontinued.
But the one quoted above is perfect just for using the camera for point and shoot, video or stills.
Thanks.
Edit>>Struggles a bit with video (low frame rate, a bit like video calling quality, or like video phone you see on the news!) but I haven't really had a good luck around the settings yet too see if it can be manually improved.
I have installed the Debut Video Capture Software on my Shift, but when I run it it defaults to 'screen' which replicates my screen image but when I click 'Device' the selection remains at screen. I can't see any options to enable my camera device.
Anyone know what to do next?
(The dorgem one worked fine so my Shift hardware is not in question.)
Camera software
I tried a program called "AMCap" that I had. (You will have to Google for it, I can't remember where I got my).
It seems to catch the video & audio and lets me take stills and such.
Hi all,
I've been looking for software to stream live video from my WM6 device. I'd like to use my old Samsung i600 as a IP camera, if possible.
Who knows of any software to stream video from the i600 which can be viewed in a browser?
I think I used Qik some years ago, but I'm not able to find the right WM version of the QIK software.
I found TinyCam two post below, but it doesn't work well on " no touch screen" i600
Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for this app too. Does anybody know something about turning i600 into a ip camera?

I used qik video to stream from windows mobile, but it's no longer supported or available. I think you may find an old cab online that works.
This?

bit of a bump to old post, but i use livecast, you can watch it live on webpage (private or public) and records video/sound. You can also have it save to SD card too if you don't have internet connection. It works well as a dash cam too, limited to quality of my touch pro 2's camera... IE can't read plate numbers
