Hey, I've had an XDA for a few days now, and for some reason (god only knows why), it seems to quite often send the same text 3 or more times - and when I'm texting my girlfriend in Australia, that's 60p a time! Also, I don't know if this is just me, but credit seems to randomly evaporate even when I'm not using the phone. I know it's not the SIM as it works fine in a Nokia 8310. I don't have any dodgy software installed, just a guitar tuner and TV remote control apps.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
George
if you have some program like pocket plus or another application which
really close programs when you press the X insted of the default minimize
that WM use
then you have to
1 exlude outlook from the list of really closed programs
2 wait with closing outlook untill the msg sendt icon is gon
As I said, I don't have any of that kind of app installed. I've just upgraded to WM2005, so hopefully it will go away.
Thanks for your help,
George

Hi, someone here asked me why I am not willing to go back to PPC2002
and flash SER 1.2 after using the beta PPC2003 ROM, and I figured it might be a good idea to start a thread recording our experiences, pros and cons, if you'd like...
So here goes:
(+)
For starters, PPC2003 has systemwide ClearType, a feature that I like
very much; it changes the daily experience in every application providing
a cleaner and more streamlined look.
The new phone app is better because it has a mute button,
and when a quickdial shortcut is lost you can repair it quickly.
The always on GPRS really works now.
A phonecall comes in, and it allows you to pick or not;
when the call ends you're back in your GPRS session without doing anything.
The system appears more stable, even though it is a beta;
the SIP panel (input) allows me to use multiple options, like InterKey (for my Greek, since I am that),Fitaly, and RapidCalc.
Previously, (even with the SER ROM) I could only have ONE more SIP
and only if I set that to be the default upon reboot, the others wouldn't work.
The new PIE is more compatible with standards, Windows Media is now 9-compliant,
the .NET framework is in ROM, the dual volume PDA/Phone slider is a welcome feature,
meeting requests can be sent through SMS, ipv6 and vpn support is built in;
my year-old phone feels new and cool. Need I say more?
(-)
There are some apps that don't work yet, check
http://www.manueldelatorre.com/ppc2003/
but I'm confident they will be eventually be made compatible.
I now spend more time using my phone, and with T-Mobile unlimited GPRS for $20, the always on functionality has me so far using 55MB this month
Thoughts :?:

I agree with everything you said about the PPC2003 dev/beta. I reloaded it about four times last week before I decided to stay with PPCPE 2002 and the XDA-DEV SER 1.1 ROM.
What did it for me was I was unable to use one of my most used apps that being Ink Spot off line news reader. I tried to live without it but I couldn't do it...man! Its not easy kicking a habit...
My only reason to go back to 2002 is the alarm clock. Since I don't have one I use this feature a lot. But after a snooze it will sound again like it should, but the display hangs! So I can't press or snooze, so I have to reset the device (with my sleepy head  ). After the reset the alarm will sound and I can dismiss or snooze it. A little annoying or I should learn to get out of my bed without snoozing
But I miss the ClearType now and my girlfriend is missing Jawbreaker!!! Ze almost killed my for going back to 2002!
Well since the alarm sound of the 2002 will NOT sound sometimes and the 2003 WILL sound but you can't dismiss it, I think 2003 is better. And also PocketMVP runs quicker on 2003 then on 2002 so I'm going back to 2003 tonight, because of all of this!
(Well oke not because of all that, but because my girlfriend is going to kill me if she can't play Jawbreaker anymore  )
Overal I hope they will 'leak' a new 2003 version soon, or better: release the official 2003 update!
You know the new version of Pocket Plus is PPC2003 compatible, and it ads repeatable, increasing volume alarms. And I think Super Alert works, too. SuperAlert allows an mp3 file to play with Alarm events; you can wake up with your favorite song
I know PocketPlus is 2003 compliant and will add repeating, but even then it will sound continously, but the display hangs. (BTW PocketPlus rules!)
But I will definitly check out SuperAlert! MP3 playing rules en hopefully it will be reliable!
I let you now, thanks!
Open an application, for example, Internet Explorer and then close it.
Next, check out the applications running in memory:
Settings-> System-> Memory-> Running Programs
Internet Explorer is apparently still running in memory! Is this a known bug and if so, is there a work around as I would expect this to affect the performance.
Also note this happened before and after the ROM 1.60 Upgrade.
it's been like that from the first version of windows CE
i suppose that because of slow cpu and mem
and such ms believed that keeping the applications running
would inc the response time of the pda so they would not
seem slugish compared to palm and other pda os's
This is a Windows Mobile 2003 'feature'
There are programs available to close the program down completely.
I have my personal favourite, by far, and is completely free. I can't remember the name of it and I'm currently updating my ROM, but as soon as that's done, I'll look in ActiveSync and let you know.

Certainly one of the thing's that I've found since the recent XDAII ROM update is that closing apps down via the Tast Manager has caused the OS to crash out with the message 'A unhandled error has occurred in the shell.' type message (has only happened a couple of times). The only way forward from this is a soft reset.

Hi,
How are you trying to exit the programs that this happens to ? It could be that instead of clicking what you think is the close button, you are actually clicking the Today Screen icon ?
As regards Task Managers, the best I have come across and use all the time is PocketNav. Here is a link for it.
http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html
This app allows you to see currently running programs and flip between them with ease. You can also close or close all programs from this menu too.
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Rob.
WisBar Advance
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/wisbar
Highly recommended, very small memory footprint, very fast and highly customizable. Oh, and FREE. If you get it, make sure you download an XP skin. Don't use the bundled ones
EDIT: Just so you know, it doesn't officially support Phone Edition. To turn the phone on/off via the taskbar, you have to close WisBar to access the icon.

I'm just using the O2 Active Task Manager (the little arrow on the bottom of the screen) that comes by default with the OS (haven't got round yet to installing a decent Task Manager - will check out the suggestions made here!).

WisBar Advance is one of the better ones that I've used but I will not give PocketNav a go, as there is a HUGE problem with WisBar and the XDAII.
Once you recive a call and access a notification (missed call, SMS things like that). You will not be able to recive any calls after that, if you ring your XDAII from another phone it actualy rings on the other phone but the XDA II does not register the call at all (as though no call is even being placed!!!, no missed call, no error messages NOTHING!!!)
I loved WisBar untill I've narrowed the problem down of not reciving calls to uninstalling or exiting WisBar and doing a softreset and never had the problems again...
Most other task managers I've found seem to have problems with the Phone Edition, cannot hide the Phone ID Program, cant close the Phone after it has been opend, phone keeps ringing over and over a gain even though there is not incomming calls... all are a few problems I have found with other Task managers I've tried... I will give that PocketNav a go and see how it works with phone edition...
I have tested most task managers under Phone Edition and my conclusion is that SBP's Pocket Plus is THEone...
It actually let's you see the notification area just as it's meant to be and it let's you exclude applications so they don't close but minimize (perfect for IA_Caller_Id.exe)
Best regards,
Rayan
Do you know of any freeware ones that are worth while?
Hi everyone! This is my 1st post here so hopefully all goes well
I have had my new magician (O2 XDA II mini) for a week now, and have been playing round installing software and stuff and seeing what this thing will do.
I have installed Pocket Informant and like it - mostly for the ability to set sub-tasks (child tasks). I looked at Agenda Fusion & didn't see this feature.
Other apps I've got installed are pocket breeze, wisbar, pocket artist, betaplayer, pocket music and total commander. But i'll be looking thru these forums to get other ideas of software to trial before I decide what I like best.
BUT... I have found a strange problem. Once PI has run, my incoming calls are muted until I soft-reset (no sound, no vibration). The only notification I get that a call has occured is a "missed call" tool tip.
I think I've proven it is PI by calling my fone before PI has run (ervything normal), minimizing PI (muted), and closing PI (still muted).
I haven't seen any mention of this problem on this (or other) forums but haven't been around for long... maybe its familiar to a regular in the forum...?
Should I look at another PIM program? (know any with sub-tasks?)
Should I look at a setting somewhere? In PI? In windows?
umm.. basically just "help!" :?
edit: see below but I'm looking at Wisbar....
check out the wishbar advance... maybe that is one of the problem!
yeah... I was just trolling through the forums and came across this... testing it out now... thanks!

Is anyone else having issues installing software onto the phone?
I have tried to push Agile Messenger (as no MSN) and Spb PocketPlus onto the device but hit issues:-
If I execute from the laptop, as I used to do with the M2000, it does not seem to push the files into the phone - looks like it is but they do not appear anywhere.
If I drop the files onto the phone and try to run them from the phone it seems to have a default message saying "....is not a valid Pocket PC application", even though they clearly are, and stops considering even trying to open them.
Am I doing something wrong, or can anyone offer advice before I lob this thing in the bin? Getting very annoyed.
Plus it has awful icons down the side and looks less like a Pocket PC and more the girlfriend's Samsung - I hate Orange. How do I get rid of these?
Please help - my blood pressure is going through the roof
Have you downloaded Agile Messenger for WM5 - beta. If not there is a huge thread on it
Hiya,
Yes I have tried that and it tells me that this is not a valid Pocket PC app.
Just spoken to Orange Level 2 tech support - they are not providing direct support for the phone other than it works with the SIM card and can get to Orange World - I need to speak to Microsoft apparently
It's a Windows executable you run it on your PC
The icons down the side are a today plugin. You should be able to untick the orange homescreen plugin.
Ok - I'm happier now.
Embarrassed to say that I had not realised I needed to reset the phone after launching apps. On the Blue Angel it did it as it transferred. With my TyTn it seems to need to restart before things take action.
Cheers guys, thanks a lot.
Hey guys,
It's me yet again, I've got some more questions I'm not sure if I should split some for the other forum area or not. Either way, let's start. Note that I'm migrating from a Nokia N95 so ignore my lack of knowledge I'm trying .
1. What programs would you guys suggest for sending text messages from my HD to another phone via my laptop, bluetooth or USB are good, Nokia PC Suite had something for this but I've not found anything for WinMo.
2. I'm used to having a the ease of changing my profiles so my ring tones and what-not for different situations normally at will, WinMo does this very differently is there a program that I can use to just pick say 'Work' and it goes to vibrate?
3. Is there a newer version of the Opera mobile? I'd like to update it as it think it has a few bugs.
4. My contacts are Sur, For how do I change this for all contacts? I have far too many to change them all by hand.
Sorry about the length and thanks again.
For such a large forum it amazes me that hardly anyone posts to my topics.

Is this just so you can use the keyboard on your PC to type?
DO you mean something a bit like this:

Yep - you can download the Cab for DDrivers 15 Tab TF3D changer for HD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450278
This allows you to have 15 tabs on the bottom of the screen - one of which is a profile manager. There are loads of applications out there which also do a profile manager and can also do it for time of day etc.
3. Is there a newer version of the Opera mobile? I'd like to update it as it think it has a few bugs.

Newest version is a beta - try using the forum to search for newer non-beta released version - some people have posted some updated versions - but Opera has a few issues at present.

One way is to use Outlook or Outlook express and import your settings from your Nokia to this. Then update what you require in Outlook - surname/first name or vice versa (means you can use the keyboard and mouse). Then connect your device to the computer and update contacts through active sync.
Or get a different contacts program: Something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478970&highlight=yota
Thank you very much .
I've installed the Outlook add-on and look forward to using it. What other profile programs would you suggest as I'd like to ring and vibrate at the same time or just vibrate but with the ability to listen to music (vibrate turns off sound WTF?).
Also which is newer the Opera beta or the Opera on the forums? I'm a bit confused as to which to use ...
Lastly will these contacts programs replace the HTC variation or simply add my changes to the HTC version? I rather stick to the inbuilt one as my main contact storage.

Yeah - bit of a pain that one. I use S2U2 and S2P
http://www.ac-s2.com/
- this allows me to set different levels for the volume of the ring and the audio. You can do this on the standard volume control on the HD by clicking the top tab but I prefer the S2U2 version where you see both volume levels in the same window.
You have to go into the settings of S2U2 and turn volume control ON under the phone settings.
If you don't like the S2U2 thing there are loads of other apps with volume control settings. Think of your phone as a phone and a music player hence 2 controls! S2P = Slide to Play. Is a bit like the iphone's music player - get the open GL version as it is better for touch HD.

Hard to say - the beta may be newer but will have issues with stability (hence beta as it is not a real release and intended for testing). Best to find someone on the forums who has a stable version. I'll have a look but so far mines kinda still got issues.

It will replace it. May have to bite the bullet and go into outlook or sort them individually. Good thing is - once you've done it - it's done. I spent an hour sorting mine in Outlook but I'm glad I did as it now means I have a very tidy contacts list in both applications and they are synchronised together - so if my phone/outlook lose data I can just put it back again. Plus outlook can backup the settings to a .PST file or to excel etc for importing to other programs and computers.
Main thing is. So long as you have backed up your contacts you can always put them back on your device the way you like em!
Hope this helps? If you need more help just ask - I'll do my best.....
Sorry missed a bit....
A large number of people use SPB as their profile tool.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/
May be able to find it on this site for testing but if you like it you should buy it.
I'm sure there are loads out there just have to go through and install some and then take them off is they don't work as you like.
Good thing about the phone is if you think you've messed your phone up you can do a Hard Reset which boots the phone back to how you got it when you first turned it on!
Look at this page for some good ideas and tips
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone
Thanks for your help.
Can SPB Mobile Shell be used with TouchFLO3D? I enjoy using the interface so not looking to change any time soon.
Thanks about looking into Opera for me, I've seen a version posted round January but that's it.
No SPB Mobile Shell cant be used with TF3D. Or actually TF3D cant be used with SPB Mobile shell. You can technically keep TF3D running, and then use SecondToday software to add a second today screen that is easily accessible by tapping one of the 2 bottom soft keys. I have this very setup. I have mobile shell and pocket plus as my main today screen, and SPB Diary and SPB Insight as a second today screen. This allows me to have SPB Diary as a full screen as it starts at the very top and ends when it ends (at 300 because thats SPB's max alignment).
For profile auto switching, try Inesoft Phone. It can coexist with TF3D.
Agree with everything above.
Should have asked you - What issues are you having with Opera?
This will help me to troubleshoot for you as it may be options.
Thanks for your help again guys.
Inesoft Phone seems a bit slow and I can't seem to find out how to delete some of the profiles as well as release the contacts (I only wanted the profile application NOT the others).
Regarding Opera it's mainly because the keyboard seems to type very slowly on webpages, the URL bar and stuff is fine it's only when typing say a username or password on a website that it has problems.

Can't say that happens on mine - Have search XDA-Dev forums and also Google and some people report it is a bit slow and have tried using Opera Mini.
It may be worth doing a post specifically for this as someone will be able to help (hopefully)
Personally I'd stick with Opera mobile, I used Opera Mini on my N95 once, it was good but the power of Opera mobile is still by far the best in regards to mobile internet experience. If anyone finds a newer version of Opera please send it my way .
Just to point out that I'm still looking for a profile application, Inephone installs the Address Book which I don't want. I've recently enjoyed using SSMaPa so I suggest it for anyone who needs it.
Thanks for your help again guys.
Any more suggestions?
