Question for you guys:
If you could have traffic information displayed on your device, how would you want it displayed, and how do you see yourselves using it?

Sorry, mates, that may be a rather silly question, but I couldn't find anything...
On my NOKIA I always had the location / area in my display. Jow do I get my XDA II to do that? Is there any setting or key combination that would enable it?
Yes,there is,but it is not functional how on Nokia phones because you will contiunue to receive messages on xda with your cell-location.
To enable Cell-location or other services on your operator go to:
Start-Settigns-Phone-More,Enable Broadcast channel,Settings-New,Channel number 050.
Enjoy.
Regards
Hehe, very funny, mate. Yep I do receive a notification every 30 or so seconds... Best part is that is tells me first my suburb, next time the suburb east, then mine again and then the one south  while I just sitting here at my desk
OK, after the good laughter - is there not something as I used to have it on my mobile phone :?:

normally it is channel 50, but upto know it will provide too many messages instead of traditional bar view.
Hi,
Over a period of time, I have been able to solve many problems with my qtek9100. However, these are 2 things, I am still fighting with.
Call Monitor:
I have tried a couple of softwares but none are fully customizable. HudsonMobile Phone Dashboard is good but it allows customizations on total minutes based talk plans. In my country, talk plans are not flat rate /min based. Rate depends which networks I call or where I call. So typically I have to set rules for certain number prefixes to use X rate/min and some to use Y.. so on.
I found a good software for this from Pisiloc software for symbian systems and was happy with it till I used Nokia. But its really getting tough to find one on WM5.
Cell Info
Did someone get this to work so far? I tried the engineering mode and googled around to see what all that information means. However, there's nothing which shows or can be used to find the cell info. Its frustrating to see a nokia show the cell info and this mighty phone not showing it.
Can someone please give me some pointers from here ?
Try phonealarm - has a good call monitor and varying profiles for diff tariffs see here http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm
Nicetrack might be what you are after to show cell info see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46803

I hvae tried Nicetrack before. The problem is that you need to collect the cells and name them manually. And cell info that you see are the names you give.
What I was talking about is some software that shows the cell info name from the cell tower. The cell towers of my network have an area name coded with them. This way when I drive, my phone shows me the area I am in, simply by displaying the text from tower its latched to. This is an inbuilt feature in nokias and I know my operator provides it. Just that the wizard doesnt show it. My hunt is still on for such a 3rd party software.

It seems to me you're actually looking for a way to read cell broadcast messages. They're available in WM5 as in every phone around (not only Nokia's). Go to Settings->Phone->Other[tab]->Transmission Channels(enable)->Settings then click New and create a new channel with channelID 050
bye

This might be useful for you - engineer mode - i placed a link from gsmtestmode.exe in the \windows directory and got all kinds of cell info.
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36807
There is a Today plugin titled DKToday, which displays cell strength in a four segment bar graph, operator and cell name. However here in Oz (Australia) the cell name works, but it also comes up as a balloon at the bottom of the screen as a notification (annoying). The software author has been unable to stop the balloon appearing. This is on a K-Jam. Yo need to enable cell broadcasts as stated earlier in the posts.
If a fix is found or a new solution is found it will be popular.
Hi i have just looked in my widget draw and i see a new widget called Traffic, any ideas what this is or does ?????
I believe it was added with the recent google maps update. You give it a name and input a destination and i believe you will see a traffic light widget. If the light is green, theres no traffic between you and that destination.
I could be wrong

When created you type a address.
When GPS is on, it should show how delayed your commute will be.
When clicked it show your route and traffic information (if any).
Hey Friends..
We have made a guardian app called mSaver.
Description:-
mSaver is a guardian application. It tracks your current location and pass the information to your friends instantly as a text message, when you tap a single button. The application plays a vital role when an individual is in any dangerous situation and wish to pass the information about his current location to his friends or relatives without giving any indication to the persons nearby. It also have an option for sending periodic alerts, which updates your friends or relatives with your changing location(if you are moving) information in a periodic manner. When periodic alert is turned on,the application will run in background and sends messages to your friends even if the application is closed by the user. It also provides an option to update the location when you are safe.
The application lets you to configure social medias like Facebook and Twitter and so that you can update your current location information and hence ask for help from your friends there.
The application is built with simple UIs so that it can easily be operated in seconds when you are in danger. All the messages and durations are customizable.
Note:This application is strictly rely on the network availability of your device.
Please give your valuable feedback. Its really important for us.
You should have posted it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games . But that's ok maybe a moderator will move it there. Your app looks pretty cool. You should post a link to google play or something. One thing though, when travelling I never have a good connection. The google maps api lets you reverse GPS location into a city/country name. You usually have to wait a bit for that information to load after the GPS signal has been acquired for that info to not return null. So like while on wifi on a pit stop is a good time to report "made it to country/city" to recipients.
Hello is an app I developed to let you secure your device using any device or software capable of sending SMS messages.
Yes most android devices are capable of using Device Manager, the only problem with this is. It's not a system app and can be removed easily and if not logged in using your account it doesn't work at all or information is so stale it's worse than moldy bread sitting on a picnic table in the sun. Device Manager also requires a data connection, even when your trying to just locate it's last position. If there is no data connection available for your device or to the device your trying to locate it wont work.
SMS is readily available even when data is not so I found this solution to work the best.
Hello will update your device location every hour when a data connection is available. It does not run in the back ground and uses very little resources for no more than 30 seconds every hour. So it is not expected to be a huge battery hog at all. I tested this on a Galaxy s3 with android 4.4.2 and a Nexus 5 with android 5.1.1 and both have experienced no noticeable additional battery drain as a result of this app.
Hello works like this:
After installation the app registers to trigger location updates when the screen is turned on, power is plugged in or unplugged, or the device is rebooted
BUT NOT SOONER THAN EVERY HOUR.
It also triggers a location update every hour from the time the device completes booting.
SO,
Install the Hello app on the device you want to secure
Push using ADB, Copy to SD Card and install from there or the best way is to push directly to the system/app folder
Then after installation send the that device an SMS message with the message body "big brother".
After the SMS is received the device will
-use location services to determine it's location
-save the number as the secure device or master device
-transmit settings to be stored on the internet
-be ready to receive commands
Commands it accepts from the secure device:
Big Brother: Sets master device using its phone number
Where are you: Send an SMS to the master device with it's current location
Secure Save: saves all settings to the internet so the can be automatically restored if upon the next data connection if the device is data wiped or system reset
Locked Out: Locks the device, (shows a persistent screen on the device that requires a pin entry before the user can use the device with out interruption)
Unlock: Unlocks device remotely, disabling security features. This will allow a different device to take ownership of secure device settings.
GeoFence on: Set a 100 meter perimeter according to the device current location determined by location services.
GeoFence off: Turns off the geo fence feature
setas=: Allows the user of the secure device to change the command triggers that trigger commands. Example: If you want to use a custom to emulate the where are you command you would send an SMS from the secure device with the message body
setas=Where are you=Whats up
The next time the device receives an SMS with the message body equal to Whats Up, it will send the secure device an SMS with location information.
There is a HELP button on the lock screen that will describe all the commands in greater detail as well as current device lock and geofence status.
If you are an advanced user you can use a log cat viewer and watch everything in action by filtering Log tag "Hello"
When your DEVICE is LOCKED it displays a NAGGING screen that is hard to escape from requiring the user to enter a pin number. This screen is persistent and even if backed out of it just pops back up.
So give it a try, install by side loading like normal to test it. If you like please leave a positive comment below and install as a system app to better secure your device.
