Texting on the P3600

Hi, I'm very keen on buying the P3600 and am just wondering about a couple of things - firstly, not having used a touchscreen before, how easy it texting using the on-screen keypad. Secondly, an odd question, but one I've been wondering about - if you're viewing a web page, but are holding the P3600 in landscape (or sideways) when you use the scroll button which way does the page scroll - horizontally or vertically?
Thanks
Vertically.
Texting is fine on the Dopod D810 - I use the stylus and keyboard only now but if you prefer Phone Pad style, there is one installed too. I just don't like the way it requires you to select the word from the prompt list rather than just display the word in the msg straight away. If you're ambitious (& patience), you might also like to try the Transcriber with your hand-writing
TenGo text entry
Anybody tried TenGO Thumb and if so, does it integrate well with the Trinity and more importantly is it easy to use?
Thanks for all your help so far.
I've tried to install TenGO before but couldn't get it to work. Right after that, I found PhonePad and haven't looked back. For long texts/emails, I use Spb fullscreen keyboard...no stylus necessary...
Hi
i have tried to install TenGo and this phone pad, oh and a couple of other alternate keyboards, and try as i may i cannot get them to show up. They exist in the list, both as an alternate input method and as an option on the keyboard choice pop-up. A soft reset after picking one still returns me to the original keyboard.
Am i missing something really obvious? If so where should i start looking?
Banafish, what is 'Spb fullscreen keyboard' - is it a stand-alone application?
Try using the iPhone-like keyboard. Love it for texting.
Of all I've used so far, thats the most comfortable, especially in landscape mode . Not only the keys are big, it also doesnt eat up all your screen space when writing like that of spb keyboard (which is good for writing essays, which I'll never do).

SPB fullscreen keyboard is an application:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/fsk/?en
You can install/uninstall it like you would any 3rd party app. Once installed, it will appear as an input option and you can access it that way. I have it mapped to one of the hard buttons so that I can just activate it when I need it.

Does anyone know if there's a sip out there that shows how many characters you've typed...because you really need to know when you've reached the 160 characters limit for a single text message?

I thought you can see this in the default message window, just that you need to close the text input panel first.. or scroll down the window.
ok, I just got tengo keyboard to work. Not for fast one handed operation, although you can try tengo thumb. There's a free 'lite' version of the regular tengo keyboard available.
Anyone ever tried using Fitaly? I managed to get upwards of 40 words per minute using that, even sometimes hitting 50 wpm. I installed 3.5 on it though, and it slowed down my phone so much, I had to take it off.

Question: Customize activity for actionscreen on keyboard sliding?

Hello,
is there a way to customize the action screen activity when sliding up the keyboard? Usually the action screen comes up by sliding up the keyboard ONLY when beeing at the home screen.
I would like to define the situation (for example a program) whether the action screen should by shown or not by keyboard sliding.
Right now I use the mobile shell 2.0 instead of the HTC cube, because it's much easer to customize. This means I've connected touchflo to start mobile shell by thumb upward movement (instad of the cube). While using mobile shell similar as my home screen (although it won't replace it) I would like to start the action screen out of mobile shell by sliding up the keyboard like it works starting from the today screen.
Let's hope it's just reg-key that defines this.
Hope I could make my self clear. Get back to me if there are any questions in understanding. So is there anybody having an idea on this?
Thanks for any answers.

Development: activating numeric SIP

Hello!
I have started developing some small apps with Visual Studio 2008 and the Windows Mobile 6.0 SDK using C# for my HTC Touch HD.
Now, I have a problem. I have a numericUpDown-Panel in my app and for this I want to use the numeric inputpanel of the htc phone-keyboard. But when I enabling the input panel, I only get the normal htc phone-keyboard. I know how to switch between the input panels (QWERTY, phone, ...), using the InputPanel-Class, but I donĀ“t know, how to switch between the different panels of the htc phone-keyboard (normal, signs, numeric).
For example, when I create a new contact in the phonebook and I select a field for a phone-number the keyboard switch to the numeric keyboard.
And this is exactly that, I want to use in my app.
Has anybody an idea?
Cheers Michel
Sorry to bump a very old message, but I'm wondering the exact same thing for my HD2...
I've seen other programs do it, but how?!

How to type smiley in sms

any way to do in topaz?
Maybe you could try SmileySMS, but it's for VGA. But it's possible to run on WVGA if I recall correct. The program is still very basic and lacks support. But it worked for me on my old Diamond 1 with threaded SMS disabled
I typically hit the number input button in the bottom right of the landscape keyboard... Faster access to smiley characters ( colon, parenthesis, hyphen etc)
It appears that smiley buttons are only enabled in text boxes on web pages, so may be an a feature activated by using Opera / IE only.
By default you can't have graphics to show up when using smilies in messaging for example. HTC keyboard does have the : ) Shortcut on the keyboard.
In this case I would recommend FingerKeyboard. This has the fastest smiley input around

Yes it does, you have to pull up the 12# tab and then click the 2/2 button, some predefined smileys there but all text and no actual smiley faces. Also only a few...
That was extactly what I was saying. It just don't do graphics!
Too bad there aren't any graphical smileys supported. Really basic, but still missing.

SMS doesn't support graphics, so what's the point anyway... the presentation of smileys is all up the receiver's handset.
Correct, but even if the receiver doesn't have and smiley support, you can have it when receive SMS, and it's so cool to see smiley in SMSs.
I miss Animated SMS from my Nokia N95

Like popup keyboard, just not autocomplete

Hello All,
I have registry value set to zero as I like to have the keyboard pop up automatically. I figure if I am going into Vito Chat I will need the keyboard...
But is there a registry tweak to stop the auto-complete in "Keyboard". I want to type what I want, not any suggestions.
I am using Keyboard, not Samsung keyboard (for now... it keeps switching back to Samsung Keyboard on its own and I hate that also.)
Using SPB 3.5
Any suggestions?
TIA,
barriedog
