Resco explorer pluging, WARNING - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi, I ve installed Resco explorer and i ve activated the today pluging. Since then, when i turn on the device and i pressed a key inmediatly(Windows Key, for example) then i had to wait 4 or 5 seconds to see appear the Start menu. Ok, the problem is the options.."Memory meter and storage meter". I have disabled this two options and when I turn on the pda and press quickly a button the response is inmediatly. This is because (in my experience in pda programming) the OS needs some seconds the get the % of memory available so this today plugging blocks the pda until it gets the data....

What version did you install?

I am runnibg 5.21 and everything works well (today plugin included)

V5.21. If you monitor your memory use with the today pluging your device will delay in wake up

Thanks for this info, I thought this was caused by SPB 3.0 but the delay was still there after uninstalling. I disabled the meters and it seems that the delay is gone now.

I will make a try

How do you disable memory monitoring?
UD.

Start/Settings/Today/Items/Resco Today Plugin, then "options" and then uncheck "Show memory and storages"

I have resco file explorer v5.21 installed but for some odd reason, i cant see it in the today plug-ins. I'm confused. Is there any other way i can uncheck memory monitoring?
UD.

mmm, strange. Reinstall if you want, but if you havent set the resco pluging visible then you wont feel this problems we are talking about....

Thanks.

The program is not shown on the task list.
I use Battery Pack which shows current running program
(Tab the little arrow in the upper right corner)
It shows the phone program never turn off.
I wonder.
thats normal it require the process to run in order to work as a phone

Finally got my hand on a Trinity and here are some problems I have..

Finally gotten my very own D810
This is not my first PPC...but I guess I still need to get used to WM5....
I have questions...and I have read through most of the threads from here before buying...guess I still need some help...
1)Does the connection activesync for your D810 disconnects itself after a while?? Mine seems to do it after like 1-2 mins...even if I'm in the middle syncing some stuff...strange...
2)Is it possible to customise the 2 buttons on our D810. The buttons for "Calendar" and "Contacts"...I can't seem to find any options for that.
3)Whatever happened to the shortcut to "Running Programs"?? Not in WM5 anymore??
4)Have you guys notice that activesync runs at startup in our PPC?? Everytime I do a soft reset...without any cables connected...I will go to "running programs" and the activesync is there...running...possible to change that??
5)Any faster way to get to "Comms Manager" without using the "HTC today" plugin?? I don't like that plug in as it cannot be customised to our needs...tried copying the shortcut from the "windows" folder but it seems to be a "system file" and will not show up in the "start menu"
6)And yes....I can't register my CE-Star as well....I d/l the "a" version...installed it through AS...at the end of the installation...there was a "register" button...I clicked on it...it was a broken link...and that's it...didn't get any email from dopod after that...
7)Anybody manage the get the registery tweak for the defaultim to work?? I can't seem to get it to work..even though I'm very sure I got the registry value correct...
Set default SIP
The default SIP (Secondary Input Panel) on practically every device is the Keyboard. You may prefer entry with a different SIP. If so, you can set this to be the default SIP through:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP\DefaultIM = |SIP ClassID|
{42429690-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9} = Letter Recognizer
Think that's all the qns I have for today. Will continue exploring!!
1)Does the connection activesync for your D810 disconnects itself after a while?? Mine seems to do it after like 1-2 mins...even if I'm in the middle syncing some stuff...strange...
No it does not. The behaviour is just like you wrote. What is the problem with that?
2)Is it possible to customise the 2 buttons on our D810. The buttons for "Calendar" and "Contacts"...I can't seem to find any options for that.
I think there is 3rd party software doing this. WM5Newmenu for instance changes one of the softkeys to a new menu.
3)Whatever happened to the shortcut to "Running Programs"?? Not in WM5 anymore??
I cant remember having such a shortcut on WinCE. You can see all runing programs (and terminate them) going to settings, system, memory and selecting the right tab.
4)Have you guys notice that activesync runs at startup in our PPC?? Everytime I do a soft reset...without any cables connected...I will go to "running programs" and the activesync is there...running...possible to change that??
You are right. Why would you want to change this?
5)Any faster way to get to "Comms Manager" without using the "HTC today" plugin?? I don't like that plug in as it cannot be customised to our needs...tried copying the shortcut from the "windows" folder but it seems to be a "system file" and will not show up in the "start menu"
That is something I would llike to know too. In fact I would prefer to switch the phone off with one click and to toggle BT and WiFi with one click.
6)And yes....I can't register my CE-Star as well....I d/l the "a" version...installed it through AS...at the end of the installation...there was a "register" button...I clicked on it...it was a broken link...and that's it...didn't get any email from dopod after that...
What is CE-Star?

I also don't remember this one but I highly recommend a program called HandySwitcher by Dinarsoft -- it's only around $8 but works great. Initially it'll have silly options enabled like overcrowding the title bar with icons like the HandySwitcher icons but you can disable them and instead place an icon in the today screen tray to use to see a list of programs running in the background and terminate whichever you like or all of them.

Create your own shortcut to \Windows\CommManager.exe by creating a file called 'Comm Manager.lnk' in \Windows\Start Menu\ or wherever you like and put the following line in that file:
21#"\Windows\CommManager.exe"
If you like you can use the utility PHM Traylauncher (which I've attached to this post) to place it permanently in the today screen tray for easy access.

8525 - WM6 Slow boot time, slow draw, system bogged down

I posted this over at the cingular website, but I thought I might get a better response here.
I have an 8525 with WM6 installed. Sometimes when I perform either a soft or hard boot, the boot time is extremely slow. For example, I read here that a soft boot once a day is a good idea to free up memory. So I performed one. It takes my phone about 1 minute to go from the Windows screen to the screen where I enter my PIN. It then slowly "draws" the screen with the keypad to enter my PIN and eventually the word "unlock" appears in the lower left corner. It seems like it takes forever to not only load, but then draw the screen. Any touch input is then delayed. In WM6 does eventually load, its completely delayed and bogged down. This happens until about the 3rd soft reset when it is fine and the system is stable.
I have the following running on my system:
Sleuth255's PTTfix
enunutz HTC Home Customizer
Skunworks FlashVideoBundle
TCPMP The Core Pocket Media
C. Ghisler & Co. gtotal Commander
Vicsoft Clear Temp
Also, I have made the following registry tweaks:
1. disabled start-up animation and sound;
2. removed battery and communication from lower task bar;
3. moved battery to top of screen;
4. changed scheduling of activesync.
I have 25MB of storage space and 24MB of program space. I also have a 2GB micro-ram. Any ideas or other occurrences like the foregoing?
It may be helpful to see what's in your windows/Startup directory. There might be some sort of collision between two processes or something.
Windows start-up directory contents
Includes:
ClearTemp Startup (12/18/07)
Launcher (9/1/07)
poutlook (9/1/07)
PTTStart (9/20/07)
sddaemon (9/1/07)
TrayIcon_Manager (10/11/07)
Any help?\
Also, it does appear that after 3 soft boots, the system loads normally - in other words, three's a charm apparently for some reason or another.
My apologies if you have already tried to following, just need to know:
Did you try starting your 8525
- Without the microSD card?
- Removing the sddaemon.lnk from the startup folder (it seems to be optional, but to be safe transfer it to your PC first)
- Disabling cleartemp, either uninstall or removing it from the startup folder.
I suspect that it may be cleartemp, but I've never used it. Perhaps another process is competing with cleartemp by trying to write to the temp directory??
Also, which ROM are you using? The official wm6? Sorry for all of the questions.
I have read on many posts that removing the COMM MANAGER icon (your item # 2) from the lower taskbar causes a slow boot and system lags. It actually happened to me once after installing a program, but I successfully remove it yesterday and so far have not detected any problems. I don't know at this point why it would happen.
I've tried removing the SD Card - no change, removed ClearTemp from the startup - no change. What is sddaemon anyway? And I'm running the WM6 Rom that you could download from http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html - I guess that's the official version.
I'll try putting the comm. manager back in. It's hard to know if that was the problem, but I'll give it a shot. When you make a lot of registry edits and install programs in often hard to pinpoint exactly the problem.
dgaud007,
It may be a little early, but so far you're a genius. Looks like it may have been the removal of the Comm Manager from the bottom. I've had three soft boots now without incident. This begs the question, do some of those other today customizers which allow you to remove the Comm Manager slow down the system too, or is it just a product of using the registry tweak? On a side note, can somebody go into their registry at HKLM/ and see if there is a subdirectory called "5"? It's empty on mine and didn't know if I just created it by accident.
Thanks everyone!
Glad to help. I still would like to know why this happens. As I recall I had removed the comm manager icon when I first got this phone and it worked fine until I tried to install a kaiser type comm manager program, which didn't work. After that I experienced all the symptons, i.e. slow boot, slow redraw, etc. I then uninstalled the kaiser comm manager and put back the comm manager icon on the screen and the symptons were gone. A couple of days ago I removed the icon again just to see what happens, and so far is working fine WITHOUT the comm manager icon. I will try to duplicate the problem...
Update 12-26-07
I duplicated the problem installing this file: "JUVS_HTC_CommManager_Kaizer_fix.cab". After installing it with comm manager icon removed, it took > 4 minutes to reboot and all the symptoms re-appeared. I enabled the comm manager icon, did 2 soft resets and the symptoms were gone (i.e. boot time < 2 mins). I removed the application and installed "Kaizer Comm Manager(10 Buttons).cab" and so far is working fine without the icon in the today screen.
Same problems...
I can't really help much, but I've been having the same problem, both with the default ROM I had and with vp3g's ROM: extremely slow boot, with a successful boot on the third try...I'm thinking that the system keeps track of the number of times you try to boot, and streamlines the process the third time around to ensure a success.
Several days ago, I did this whole sequence of soft boots, and my phone actually "reset" itself: it went through the phone's "first-time-use" setup sequence, unpacking and installing default programs. I'm still running vp3g's ROM, but it now appears to be a blend of that ROM's customizations and the original system ROM, thanks to that weird reset. Anyone else know about this?

Battery indicator replaced file manager?

Currently running Touch-IT 2.3 on my Wing. Just removed old versions of PocketCM (.15 and .16), installed .18 as well as Google Maps. Other than BatteryStatus, device is basically using only the standard programs that comes with Touch-IT.
I soft-resetted and now a battery icon appears in the top right corner of my today screen where the task manager button used to be. Clicking it brings up a "notification" window titled "Battery" with "Main", "Backup", and "Memory" and their relative percentages. When I click and hold it it comes up with a list (analog, percent + analog, percent + digital, memory + analog, detail). None of these gives me any indication of what program is doing this. I scoured my program settings (especially batterystatus) and can't seem to find what is doing this. Obviously not having quick task manager access is annoying, especially when the regular battery indicator is right next to this new icon.
Any ideas what program this might be or what setting might have been changed? Its more than possible that a friend playing with my phone checked some option box without me knowing it and the soft reset enabled it, I just can't find what it was!
Thanks
It sounds to me like you may have disabled your HTC Task Manager.
Go to Start, Settings, System, Task Manager
and under Button, make sure its Enabled.
You may also have something else installed that changes those icons, like wisbar or pocket plus that may be doing that... so make sure you dont have something else interfering.

How to minimize Opera than closing it when tap on the "X" button?

it is funny you mention because the question really is how to close opera. Once you have opened opera it stays on. the only thing is that you cannot see it in the task manager. they made it invisible so you can't kill the process. but now you also cant start it up from there. so when clicking the X you are minimizing the app. don't you think it starts fast when opening it for a second time. when new roms come without manilla, you will see it again in the task manager

just exit the program via the opera-menu then it really closes.
if you use the X it does only minimize.

that still doesnt close it, if u use a proces monitor like Sktools u can still see Opera9.exe running, its even in the top 10 in mem usage. killing it in the process monitor doesnt seem to fix it either as the proces gets restarted somehow, but it does use lots less memory afterwards
I uses Touch Pro (Raphael) before switching to Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium), Opera minimizes visibly in Task Manager. But not in Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). Now I know...
But is there a trick or 2 to modify the registry in Manila file(s)?
this would explain why sometimes as I'm moving offices etc and connecting to different wi-fi's sometimes although the wi-fi is connected it continues to use 3G.
I shutdown Opera and restart usually to try and force it to use the connected wi-fi but sometimes it just doesn't.
Turns out I'm not really shutting down opera hence why It continues to use it's original connection to 3G (not always though.)

I have been playing around with the registries and it seems there are some registry settings that you can change to prevent that
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
If you look into the above folder, you can find a list of apps that will run under exclusive, meaning they will not show up in the normal task manager. You will notice Opera9.exe is in there. If you remove the entry, you can now see Opera9.exe in the task list. But it still doesn't seem to terminate the process when you exit Opera. Hence for the first poster, if you just stop here, your Opera will minimize visibly to the tasklist once you click on the "X"
For those who want to further kill Opera when you click on "X", you need to go to
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
Add a DWORD key (Opera9.exe) and set the value to 1. Now when you exit Opera, the process will be terminated and memory returned.
This works for me.
Cool~ Will try it out. Thanks so much!

It's work! And I was looking for this for a long time !Thank You!
is there ANY possibility of someone posting a screenshot of exactly what this looks like when it is typed in? I am so new and i dont want to mess up anything. Thanks.
But it opens very quickly when you want to use it again. Almost immediatly.
I just use cleanRAM a couple of times a day...Mostly after using opera
As far as I know opera keeps running is because push page is enabled.
Turn off push page in registry and reboot, then and it should not be always running in background.

Hello,
Sorry, it doesn't work for me
I've tryed every solution I found, I believe on registry settings, but all I found doesn't work, the opera9.exe process still become again and again, however I kill it, turn on the registry keys (RealExit, allready on), using the right menu of Opera for the built in "real" exit, killing Opera9.exe from different Task Manager (then OperaL.exe appears a few seconds, then Opera9.exe again), renaming file OperaL.exe to not be launched at startup -> another one was restored (more ancient) !
How is it possible to change any settings on a brower, or installing any plugin, if this one is always running ??
Thanks for help

Yes, you did it ! Woohoo !
Thanks a lot for this tip, it helps me !
In fact, I didn't need to install the NoPushInternet_v2.CAB of TinTin, but thanks to him ; the indication that there is a service to stop was suffisant for me. I set myself the PushInternet service to start manually, with FdcSoft Task Manager. After soft reset, Opera is not launched automatically !
I gain 5% of free memory.
In addition to that, Opera works better now, the splash screen of Opera Mobile appears when he starts, sign that it is really launched manually. And Flash Player runs now, that's great ! Sign that it is not possible to install a plugin when the browser is still running. And also, when minimized, Opera appear in the Task Manager menu of TF3D, great too.
Strangely, when I use the Opera menu to exit, it does not ! He's not minimized, but Opera9.exe is still running. But I can kill it and he doesn ot reappear.
Also, if I use the X button, Opera really exit ! So, all is allright
Anybody has an idea oon which process to chose to do the same with Activesync ?
Should be \Windows\repllog.exe ?
