Why is the SD slot (and power-button) on the bottom when I use the Universal in handheld mode?
That will be annoying when I use for example an SD GPS card...

hi
I have a xda2 pocket pc with a 22pin(USB/Serial) interface.
is there any way to use the interface to plug in a multimedia card reader or a digital camera?
I want to be able to transfer my digital camera pictures straight to my pda.
I don't think so, I've looked into it, but from what I've found the XDA doens't have the right Hardware to act as a USB host, it can only act as a client. There might be some way to hook up a serial interface, but I don't know...
My camera has a 128MB SD card, and my XDA has a 1GB SD card so I'm sorted anyway
I dont think you can do that but if your camera uses cf cards it is possible to obtain an sd to cf card adaptor, you slot the sd card into the cf adaptor then slot the cf adaptor into the camera, when you wish to transfer pictures you remove the sd card from adaptor and place it in your xda. I dont know if this helps but here is the link.

thank you
When I was choosing a camera, I looked for one that will use SD/MMC card. No problems with interface at all! SD card that came with camera was showing as full of normal, viewable JPEGs. There is a lot of free memory in XDA to serve as buffer between SD card and another SD card (we aren't talking about gigs of photos here )
If camera is already bought but uses CF, there is a "backpack" add-on device for XDA II which adds a spare battery, CF slot and VGA output. I have one. So CF card can be copied.
The only problem is that backpack is quite expensive - may be worth to change camera instead - they're getting cheaper each month.

Click to collapse
Are you sure the card can be detected properly? do you have a sd card reader to see if windows can detect?
I don't have SD reader
No, i don't have a sd card reader to use with the computer to verify the card, but the sd card is a Kingstom standard mini sd card with him adapter to SD.
The card isn't reconigzed by the prophet and isn't reconigzed by the magician.
The type and size have problems with this models of XDA?
My guess is that the mini-sd to sd card adapter is busted. you should double check with another device to be sure. I doubt sd slot on the pda is busted (have you tried another sd card?). I've used a 2gig sandisk mini-sd car with an adapter in my dopod818pro no problems.
my miniSD adapter is a bit.. wacky. Try this.
Take both of them out.
Take the miniSD out of the adapter
Reinsert it, firmly but not too 'pushy'.
Now, the trick here, when you insert both of then into your phone, try not to push it on the miniSD, instead, push it on both side of the adaptor (eg ONLY touch the adapter when pushing into the phone, and balance it (left and right)).
i recently stumbled on a thread on Hackaday, where there was one entry where he managed to piggy back the connection of the SD and hard wired it to a SD Wifi, leaving the SD slot open for a SD memory card (parallel connection).
The question is, is it possible to do the same on an Atom? or any PPC for that matter? Maybe, a dummy SD or minisd with two MiniSD2SD connectors (for holder) in parallel so you could connect a minisd memory on one and a minisd wifi on the other. I wonder if the parallel connection will work?
Also correct me if im wrong, but i read somewhere that the SDIO uses two modes of communication with the SD, one is serial i think and the other is direct or something, but the latter is much slower and only good for devices like wifi and stuff and the direct method is for memory. So saying that, i guess 2 Memory card is not possible, and only Device and Memory is quite plausible.
I hope its possible. Anyone care to enlighten the subject?
why do you need to install an sdio wifi card to your atom when it already has built-in wifi? Anyway, it would be better if someone can make a sd to usb converter. This way, we can expand the sd card capacity to that of a flash drive. or maybe we can expand the RAM by replacing it with a flash drive? Anyway, maybe an expert can give his 2 cents on this.
i hv a ba with wm 6.1. and a 2gb kingston sd card. Whenever i try to copy (write) something on the sd via activesync or file explorer (on device) both says that the "media is write protected move the write protection tab" while the tab is already on unlock position. AND the card works perfectly with card reader. also the other card works well on device. SO where the trouble is
Card or device????????
i hv try these but fails
Format sd (all types)
Format device
Another roms wm5, wm6, 6.1 etc.
It's so obvious tha you don't see it
Ok, I had the same problem with one SD cardl
It's obvious, the little switch slides when you are inserting the card to the only read position.
You can try to insert the card slow, or to block with tape or someting similar the little switch in the SD card.
Good Luck,
PS.Tell us if I'm right.
before posting i had tried this too but fails. even i had cover the gap below the switch by a small plastic and tape it but it also fails.
now i m thinking to tilt the metallic stripe a bit which hit the switch to recogonize its position. may this works.......
Anybody any idea how i can get my hd2 to recognise the sd card (it's only the crappy 2gb standard one). when i go to settings to check what memory is left, it just simply says no sd card?
HAve your pushed the card in far enough so it clicks ?? I didnt at first and had the same problem,
make sure that the usb lead is not connected
