I dont know why, but my device does not turn "on" when I open or turn the lid/display? I have to press a key. Is it the same with your devices?
Yes this is the same with all universals. Gotta press the power button.
Not very smart... :?
Yeah. Some of the other buttons will take it out of standby/off, like the calender/contact button if you are on the today screen and the backlit button. I guess it's like powering on a laptop Gotta press a button.
i hope that they'll add this funktion very soon. in 99 percent of the cases you need an activated device when opening the lid.
Well, it "sort of" works. If you turn off the device with the power button, then close the lid, it won't turn on when you open the lid, you have to press the power button. Fair enough. But if you close the lid while its still on, you can see that as the lid is closing, it will turn off. Then, open it up again, it will turn back on. But only if you open it in a certain time period after closing the lid. Beyond that time period, it won't turn back on when you open the lid.
I don't know this for sure, but I think it looks at your power management settings. For instance, if you have the auto power off set to five minutes, then if you open the lid within five minutes of closing it, it will turn on. After five minutes, it won't turn on. Which is definitely a bug I would think.
when you close the jasjar without pressing the power button you are only turning off the screen
The normal standby mode (closing does not switch off and screen is activated by opening) is OK with me.
But the lid should also work like the camera button, wich turns the device on when its off. There should be no physical and logical limitations.

You guys are lucky.... Least your system is not getting active while u turn the lid back.. I have my device with password protect, most of the time when I try to reactivate my system by pressing PowerButton, it give Blank Password Screen, where you cant use it unless Soft Reset... Seems like its a bug in universal.

hello,
My S100 can not shut down when i press the power button during 2 seconds. (Note: Turning your device off doesn’t turn the phone off. To turn the phone off, press and hold for two seconds.)
It looks off, but it's not, the phone is still on !
I heard i can use the "inflight mode", but i'd like to know the correct manip' to turn off the device AND the phone !
Any idea ?
ROM : 1.03.02 FRE
Date : 11/02/04
the only correct way to turn the phone off is to use the flight mode.
if you pressed the power botton for 2 sec you will turn the screen light off.
regards.
Pressing the power button does not turn the phone off, that is an error in the manual as far as I know.
Only Flight mode turns off the phone function, when you press the power buton shortly the S100 powers down ( goes into sleep mode), when you press the power button longer the backlight goes off. If you look close, you see the screen is still on then and when you tap it, the programs you tap will respond. When you turn the S100 to sleep mode, the screen switches completely off and does not respond to anything.
You cannot turn the S100 completely off, since no power means no RAM, means a hard reset, means all data you installed gone. In sleep mode, the S100 uses very little power to retain the data and is still able to run alarms, notifications etc.
If you want an easier way to switch your phone to flight mode than tapping the signal symbol in the top and then tapping in the pop-up ,and create alternative modes ( like meeting, loud, soft, quiet, etc), I recommend PocketZenPhone, where you can easily create your own phone modes with buttons on your today screen. The app is very cheap ( 5 euro's) and the links can be found on this forum.
thanx a lot for you're answers ! That helps !
If I am correct, if I need to reboote the device and the phone (for instance, after i installed the "contacts short cut programm designed by Mamaich), the only solution I have is to remove the battery ???
I tried to put the phone in flight mode and shut down the device but it didn't work....
I think you need to read your manual better!
Rebooting the device can be done by a soft reset. You just put your stylus point into the little hole in the bottom of the S100, right of the headset hole, and press. It then restarts completely and loads your programs again etc.
Removing the battery also soft resets, BUT: If you leave it out too long, the back up batery runs out and you do a hard reset, thereby removing all data on your device you installed! It will leave you with an S100 as it came from the factory, but all your own data is completely gone (programs, contacts etc)! A Hard reset can also be done by pressing and holding the power button while at the same time doing a soft reset as described above, by putting your stylis in the little hole.
With some programs, like SPB PocketPlus you can select a small reset button to be present on your today screen, so you don't have to push your stylus in the little hole everytime you want to soft reset.
I hope this helps.
Even when I untick 'On Battery power Turn off baclight if device is not used for ... Time', my Jasjar baclight goes off in 2 minutes. And, if I set this to 5 minutes still my Jasjar backlight goes off in 2 minutes. Also, when I choose to 'turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped, it doesnot turn on any button or screen tap. I can turn it on by power button or Call reject red button. Any registry hacks/ Am I missing something? I would like my backlight always on untill I press power button. Also is there any hack to turn on power/ backlight automatically when I open the lid?

Maybe a soft reset (fixes lots of weird problems like this). Cheers,
yeah and if soft reset doesnt help, do backup, sync with PC and do hard reset.
Hi All,
My Wizard is set to turn the screen off after a minute of inactivity.
To get it back on, I have to press the power button.
I've checked in backlight and power settings and have it set to allow a screen tap to turn the backlight on, but it's not working - well, if the backlight's off but the screen's on it works ok, but I want a tap to turn the screen and the backlight on together. At the moment I have to press the power button, which upsets Pocket Player MP3 playback...or I can press a hardware button, but again, this tends to interrupt playback of music as all the buttons are mapped to something.
Seems a simple request, am I missing anything? This is under the Mr Clean ROM, if it makes a difference.

Once the screen goes off, the phone is "sleeping". The only way I know of to turn it on at this point is to tap the power button. To do what you want would be turn turn off the screen going into sleep mode, but that will come at the expense of your battery life. Start>Settings>Power>Advanced then uncheck the Turn off device under On Battery Power.
device lock(s)
A halfway solution, you could turn the screen off using the device lock app, which includes screen off. Then when you press the power button it only effects the screen and not anything which is running. The second one is very good for listening to music with, assuming you volume control button isn't broken like mine
When I lockmy phone, either with slide2unlock or the actual lock button on today screen, it locks all buttons except the power button. Then I am working listening to mp3's and I accidentally hit power button, it turns off screen, not phone entirely. When it does that that kills my music, then I have to hit power real quick to turn back on, anyway to disable power button? Also even with keys locked, it still wil go in airplane mode if end buttone held down, but this only happens when using slide2unlock, got any ideas?
So to recaqp, want to disable power button.
Want airplanemode to not happen while using slide2unlock, thanks for any help
for plane mode you can use this reg key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/PhoneExtendFunction/CDMA/
set FlightModeSwitchByPnHEndKey to 0
it will prevent the phone from entering plane mode by holding the end call button
cant help with the power button, on mine sometimes it will go to sleep and keep playing, other times it will stop, i havent noticed a pattern yet
wow, thanks. been looking for this forever. it appears a soft reset is required after the reistry change, at least for me.
Hi
I've just bought an ex-demo display unit off ebay (with limited warranty from a rated biz seller) and after I press the power button whilst it's in sleep/standby mode, it can take around 15-40 sec for the screen to turn on. On my old Tab-S2 (and virtually every other device) pressing the power button wakes up the device immediately.
Am I missing some weird new feature here or is it faulty? How can I test it?
If I do a screen double-tap it's the same. If I hold down the power button then it prompts straight away to turn off. So it just seems to have the delay whilst it's in sleep/display-off mode. If it's powered off then it starts after about 5sec holding down the power key.
It's no good having a faster tablet if it takes ages to wake up - any ideas?

that's not normal for sure, it should wake up instantly after pressing the power button, you can try to factory reset or flash latest firmware, if problem exists you should return it then.
Thanks for the info - I'd already updated the firmware but it made no difference. I also ran the Samsung Members Hardware test https://www.samsung.com/levant/support/mobile-devices/samsung-members-how-to-perform-hardware-test/ but and the hardkeys check out fine.
However I've just discovered that if I disable "double tap to wake" (option enabled by default) then the power key and fingerprint touch now wake it immediately. The behaviour was rather random though so will give it some time.
Well that turned out to be short lived as it sometimes then went to sleep and couldn't be woken up at all, save for the power and vol down key combo. I contacted Samsung support and they advised me to return it!
