Umts/Gprs Traffic Counter - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I have searched not found.
Is there a traffic counter to the Universal?
Regards
JoseF

I use Hudson IP Dashboard.
Works like a charm.

What about SPB...
I bought it years ago... than never used it since I blamed it for device hard resets...

I use Hudson IP Dashboard
HI, I have tried the Hudson IP Dashbord , I cant get any traffic with UMTS.
rilot can you tell yours settings please?

Hi again,

re
sorry but I'm confused, doesn't Hudson IP Dashboard only monitor voice calls.
Are u implying that it will monitor GPRS data transfer as well ?

i'm talking about the IP Dashboard, not the Phone Dashboard.
ip dashboard has data rate monitor, usage meter notifications, etc

re
hi, posting this from my jasjar, well happy. But now i'm getting some heavy traffic (is'nt utms fantastic) I need to monitor my usage. Thanks fer the info all, will try IP Dashboard when I get home tonight, yay love this keypad man.
Cheers, Numb

SPB GPRS Monitor works fine as well. It is actually shipped for free (on CD) with the MDA Pro, in a new build. Since T-Mobile's presets combine 3G and GPRS in one connection, you wil only have to setup SPB GPRS Monitor to monitor one connection only. It will then calculate the costs for you.

re
I have tried IP Dashboard, it seems OK but I've used spb and it doesn't feel as robust tbf. Also can't seem to set dates for monitoring periods and when I soft reset it also resets the counter.
Cheers, Numb

Howto disconnect GPRS

Hi
Can anybody tell me how to disconect the gprs when I'm done with it. I got the ppc2003 on my Qtek1010 and now the only way to disconnect is to turn the phone off! That can't be right?
//Lasse
Install GPRS Monitor from SBP
It will solve the problem
Check this topic first
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1822&highlight=
then you if you didnt like what you saw you can do what i am doing, using Sbp GPRS Monitor to d/c from all GPRS sessions smoothly.
thank u
Thank u.I will install the monitor utility
//Lasse
I hold the red "End" phone key down for 2-3 seconds, and that drops the GPRS connection.

I am having the same problem. You said that you could share the spb GPRS monitor. How can we get it?

How about buying it? It's also cheap software.

Always on GPRS - it's easy:)

I happened to stumble across a registry setting tonight that enables always on GPRS...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
I've only played with this for a bit so far, but once you set this and soft reset it will immediately establish the GPRS connection and not automatically disconnect when an app is done with the connection. It still prefers the wifi connection when it's enabled.
I have no idea what this will do to battery life... hopefully not much.
Let me know how and if this works for you.
Brett
Hi,
i will try this for 2 days. Comming back with feedback ...
Ok,
installed the hack on my MDA Pro ..... after reset gprs is going online automatic. Thats very nice. After some seconds it switched to 3G network.
I am happy :`) lets see how it works over the next days ....
GPRS always on
It works like a charm!
I have an MDA pro.
Thanx for the tip
You sir are a genius!
Excellent find.
This should be a sticky.
Yep, well done Brett. You get to choose a sticker from the box!
(Mental how much kids love stickers...or was that just at our school?!?)
GPRS on
Great hack !
Made my day

Sorry for asking you guys to do a step back and help an old 9500 user, with the following questions.
2. Pls tell me where to find the regedit program or where to buy it.
2. Does this mean that MSN will work more flawlesly than before? It turnes off all the time.

I looked in the registry but was unable to find the key. I'm using XDAIIi with Win 2003 SE. Any ideas?

I don't have a machine with 2003SE to try it, but I'm guessing this is a WM5 thing.

I actually turn this back to the original settings when using wifi. When the registry is set to GPRS always on, it seems to slow the wifi connection on pcoket ie. If you check, it will show both connected and ie seems to be slower.

I haven't noticed that. Does it seem to run at GPRS speeds when you have a wifi connection, or does it just run slower than wifi only? I'm connected through wifi right now, and it does show both as being connected, but I'm definitely getting wifi speed.
When you change back and forth do you need to soft reset after the change or does it take effect immediately?

You will get a longer response time. But i don't think, that the transfer speed goes down. You need a soft reset to make the change active.

Anyone found a good traffic monitor

I'm looking for something that tracks my data traffic usage. GPRS Traffic Monitor does not monitor the usage of my JasJar as a 3G modem - which I do a lot.
IP dashboard counted traffic that went via activesync thereby horribly overstating my traffic (and thus cost) usage.
Anoyone know fo anything better that works on a Universal?
SPB GPRS Monitor is what I use - any good?
15 days limit
Joe, GPRS Monitor does not track usage of yoru JJ as a 3G modem - whihc is where U REALLY clock up bandwidth.

Ok dude, I've never used it that way due to the bandwidth package I am on. It just measures by whichever connection you choose and I thought I saw a modem in there.

GPRS Disable / Enable

Is there an app available that will allow me to diable or enable GPRS usage ? I would like to use GPRS when im out and about, but dont want my phone doing things like connect to GPRS if I forget to sign out of messenger when ive been using wifi. When the phone switches itself off, it will connect via GPRS and download any messages emails.
I have put some dummy accounts in to stop it connecting but it keeps coming up with unknown application errors then although it does stop it costing me any download allowance / money.
Anyone ?

Maybe you did not get an anwer because you posted it in friday the 13th
But I want the same.
I am going abroad later this month, and I don't want any program to connect via GPRS.
It just costs too much.
So does anyone have a solution to disable connection by GPRS?
Hi all. All you do is press and hold the call end button for a few seconds and GPRS will be switched off.

I think you are mistaking the question.
If you press the Call End button for a few seconds, it indeed will end the GPRS session.
For that moment.
But if an application want to connect, it reconnects with GPRS just that easily.
And that's what you are afraid of, when roaming.
I really want to control the GPRS connection, off or on.
I use SPB GPRS Monitor. It adds a Icon to the menu bar at the top. You just tap on it, tap connect, and there you go. You can disconnect also. The program is skinnable as well! Moreover, it monitors your GPRS usage so you know when Vodafone is over charging you
cya
I also use GPRS monitor, but that's not the issue here.
I know how to disconnect, but I don't want GPRS to connect automatically, whatever condition.
Just do not connect via GPRS unless I tell the wizard to do so.
i know how you can do it!!!! Close messager and you will not have the problem!!!!! does not take brains! If you cant do that why the heck do you have a phone like this, which must be really too high tech for you!

Oh, okay....no clue in that case
The best way would be not to save the password to the connection, so it asks for it each time. That will stop it connecting, but it is inconvenient
Hope that helps

Hmm, this is no fun-man.
I ask a normal question, so please give a normal answer.
I have pushmail, newsreader, weatherpanel, Messenger and maybe some more progs who connect automatically over GPRS.
In holland that's no problem because I have a flat fee abo.
But when I go abroad I have to disable each and every application by hand.
(Roaming GPRS is sooo expensive )
So this device is definately not too high tech for me, but I am looking for an easy solution and that's to control GPRS by hand.
One program does it all for you:
Vijay555's VJVolubilis program!
Google search for Vijay555. Go to Releases. He's got a bunch of software written by him (a BIG THANK YOU to Vijay - Viva la ViJay!)
Instructions:
- Install cab file.
- Create a shortcut (using Ilauncher or any other programs that allows you to) and change the properties to wot you need
- In your case, use the properties - -gprson or -gprsoff or -gprstoggle
- You can set one icon to turn GPRS on and one to turn GPRS off in case you're worried about toggling it on instead of off.
Works great for me.
And don't forget to donate to Vijay!
Hope that helps.
Thanx, that's really looking promising.
It seems exactly what I was looking for.
I will test this prog asap.
i have been looking for a prog like this so I do not get price raped when my gprs drops out...I will test it out thanks.

Best wi-fi scanner software for TyTN?

I'm looking for some (inexpensive) software to detect wireless networks. Can anyone recommend a good scanning program for my Vario II?
Cheers.

I like Hitchhiker - scans and assists in connection to hotspots.
Also like Wififofum - has a nice radar type screen as an option or just lists networks and details. Does not connect to networks just shows them.
Both above require the .net cf framework 2 to be installed as well
Both are freeware
http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/
http://www.aspecto-software.com/rw/applications/wififofum/index.html
Sometimes Hitchhiker shows an error on very first start up but ignore it and possible soft reset and should be fine from then on.
Mike
The best WiFi scanner
I found this freeware on 8525software.com. Its called WiFiFoFum. I think this is what you're looking for. http://www.8525software.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,27/func,select/id,4/
WiFiFoFum is best
I've a collection of 18 wifi programs, i've tried all of them.
Hitchhiker is good, not invasive like WiFi Companion.
To capture Packets, Airscanner mobile sniffer is the best, but seems that promiscous mode doesn't work on hermes.

Even under wm5 it has a habit of giving this error at first installation. Worth a soft reset and retry.

has anybody managed to use Hitchhiker on WM6?
I just installed WM6 and for some reason hitch hiker will start, it will find a network, connect and then error and result in me having to do a soft reset.
this program is amazing and MUCH needed since i need to connect wirelessly anywhere i am.
is there a way to get this to work?
Hi, Im using WiFi Companion, howerver the WiFi signal reception is very weak as it shows only 1-2mbps, btw im connecting at my on LAN .

Sorry forget to mentioned that i have set the Wlan to "G" on my pocket PC but still no avail.
Hitchhiker on WM6?
Bt: the companion keeps low power on the wlan to save energy, so that's the reason you see only 1-2 mbps, just give more gear on the net and the speed will go higher.
Any news on Hitchhiker or another program with such functionality working well on WM6?? I don't think WFFF do such great job, does it try to connect and resolve net address once discovered a new network?

I don't have news on Hitch and WM6. But WFFF does not assist with the connection. Nice looking radar screen that can give true radar if GPS sotware is in use - other than that if it's something that provides a connection then WFFF is not the one for you. (Curiously a long time ago the developer did have an option to connect but abandoned the option for technical reasons).
