Windows Media player streaming Audio/Video using XDA2i - Networking

After many hours of playing around, I finally found out that using WPA-PSK encryption does NOT work with an XDA2i using my Netgear WGT624 router, and that I have to use Shared WEP encryption for the WiFi to work.
It works fully now for internet AND MSN messenger, but when I try to get any Audio or Video to stream using Windows Media player, I get an "Error" but it does not explain what that error is.
Is that something to do with the settings on the router, perhaps blocked ports? Or is it going to be an XDA setting problem?
Also, if anyone knows, why does WPA-PSK NOT work with the XDA2i even when it IS listed in the XDA2i settings??
Thanks,
Dazzer

XDAIIi Wifi access over home router to browse PC apps etc

I got me a new 2i, and now want to use the wifi function from home as well as hotpspts etc.
I got me a Linksys Wireless-G 54mbps Broadband Router (Back compatibale with 11 b)
Any usefull tips on which software I can use to connect to my home pc and browse to my documents/mp3's/ etc and stream to the 2i?
Also with this I would like to be able to set up a VPN from the 2i so i can remotley connect to my desktop pc when away from home, and do this from a hotspot etc.
Any advise?
Thanks
Just use pocket IE or file explorer and type in the UNC path of the location on your home PC, e.g. \\HOMEPC\MYMUSIC.
Could you let me know which version you are using for the XDA IIi and which model WAP? I've been trying to get my IIi to work with a 3COM OfficeConnect WAP to no avail (both work and home). Work WAP is carrying about 5 different client WIFI cards (and a HP IPAQ). Home WAP is carrying 3 different WIFI cards. No problems in either case. Just my XDA IIi is unhappy. Home WAP is running the lastest firmware from 3COM and Work WAP is running original firmware. My XDA IIi doesn't work with either. I have managed to get the XDA to WIFI on a neighbour's WAP working. Which seems to indicate that XDA IIi is OK.
I've seen another post where there was a problem with a linksys 54g / XDA IIi

Anybody got any ideas?
UPDATE: Got IP address @ work wap from MS DHCP server. Can ping/traceroute using vxUtils, but the device doesn't appear to "know" it's connected. IE, etc still tries to use GPRS.

I managed to establish a connection and got access to the internet via a VPN-Server in the local network connected via Wifi to my XDA mini. I had also problems with vpn connection going down.
Unfortunately I have some troubles with my Wifi card, so I don't have the exact settings. But AFAIR the problem was solved by doing this:
- Going to Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Execptions
- Using New URL to add "*" and "*/*".
(I have a german version, so I'm not sure, how the buttons are labled in english)
I think the problem is, that the software thinks, VPN connects always to the INTRAnet at your workplace. By adding this "Exections" you tell the device, that the hole internet is included in the intranet.
Maybe there is a routing tool for PPC which can solve this, too?

Are you streaming off the internet? If yes, you need to go to Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Network Adapters, and set "My network card connects to the internet." Otherwise bot pIE and Meda Payer will kee trying to use your GSM/3G connection.

streaming radio through tmobile proxy possible?

does anyone know of any streaming radio programs that work through the tmobile proxy tzones thing? thanks in advance
Tzones thing? You mean wifi?
Some of them will stream through the proxy and some will not. If you're an XM subscriber, you can stream their feeds.
I know that the higher bandwidth shoutcast feeds won't go. I've not checked the lower ones. These all go through the TCPMP application. I am not sure off the top of my head what network ports are in play. I stream the Shoutcast feeds daily over wifi, but that's at home and I haven't needed to try the GPRS route yet.
yea i can stream t from streamingpda.nl using window media player and i streaming my favorite radio station using gsplayer wit custom setting
have any of you been able to get the streaming media program for watching youtube to work with the proxy? it says to input a proxy range with a 20 port diff, so i put in 8070-8090 but it still doesnt work, ive tried the program over wifi and it does work. any ideas? thanks in advance
I don't know if it would be too much to ask, but it surely would be nice if people can post radio stations available (stream address) here that are free and work on GPRS. I tried XMradio which is VERY COOL!! all stations work perfect on GPRS connection, and easily accessed through ppc but they charge around 12 USD/month !!!!!!
