On a PC, you can go to http://wap.oa.yahoo.com, and login to your yahoo account to read your emails, etc.
If I do the same from my XDA2, it says "Unable to connect: Ensure that your modems are present and inserted correctly, and no network card present".
If I try this with any other web site (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk) it connects and works fine.
Does anyone else get this, and does anyone know a way around it?
Thanks!
On my XDA, http://wap.oa.yahoo.com works fine.
But WAP stinks on a capable device like the XDA or XDAII. Why not use http://www.yahoo.com instead, or set up your Inbox to download your Yahoo headers and/or messages?
can i realy do that?? setup INBOX for yahoooo???
please show me how! i couldnt even set the outlook express on PC to do that!
thanks a million.

You can only do this if you pay extra for POP3 access to Yahoo emails - which I don't want to do as this isn't my primary email account.
Also, going through http://www.yahoo.com means you get all the ads, graphics, etc. Even over a GPRS line, this makes it quite painfull.

I just got a new XDA II and I could access Yahoo without problems. After an involutary hard reset all the O2 stuff got installed (seems it was not installed the first time I used the device), and now I'm having the same problem as you're describing. Has O2 added something "clever" so that if it sees "wap" in the path, it thinks it should use a wap connection? In any case I can't find these settings and delete it. I want it to work as it did before the hard reset! Help!
Try wsp://wap.oa.yahoo.com insted of http://wap.oa.yahoo.com
HTTP = PC
WSP = WAP
8)
cheers
WSP doesn't work either. Probably because that signals even more to the computer that you're trying to establish a WAP connection, which I don't want to do and which isn't set up either. The funny thing is that it worked before the hard reset, and I never had any problems on my old XDA I.
I managed to remove all the O2 stuff from the extended ROM, and after a hard reset, I can now access http://mobile.yahoo.com/mail again! Once you access http://mobile.yahoo.com/mail, the path changes to http://wap.oa... and from this point on it complained. Until I removed the O2 stuff. So now I'm happy it works, but I'd still like to know what settings O2 infiltrated to stop it from working. Does anyone have a clue?

I think it have something to do with Connection settings and or Registery settings for Browser ID string (User ID String)
example:
Of youre browser ID is "Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)" Than you w'll get a diffrent page if you have something else.
After I changed my Browser ID (to see more free stuff from orange GRPS/Orange World) I cant get the colored page of Yahoo Too.
Can you post here youre Browser ID please?
To see youre browser ID string, Visit http://www.showip.com on youre PPC, and let me know please.
Cheers
I just bought an XDA2i and am having the same problem with the mobile Yahoo site. Since nobody has managed to unlock the extended ROM in XDA2i yet , I cannot remove the O2 stuff that is causing the problem (forcing a different connection for web adresses starting with "wap"). On my XDA2 i could unlock the extended ROM and remove the O2 bits, and this solved the problem. With XDA2i I'm stuck...
Every time I try to login to messenger I get
logon to msn messenger service failed because service is not responding
As a test downloaded Agile messenger and it worked first time
Error happens whether I am using usb, gprs or wifi for web access
Skearon,
I get the same problem when using it via GPRS, although Cable and WiFi is fine...
Can I ask a quick question? Are you using a custom email address? i.e. '[email protected]' as your .NET passport? or are you using an actual @hotmail/msn account?
I am using a custom account, *******@*****.me.uk, and this normally causes problems with the MSN protocol (server side applications) the only other way round it for pocket msn would be to create a hotmail account and use that on ur PPC.
Hope that helps a bit?!
Cheers.

Skearon,
I have had the same problem, but cannot force it to happen.
Use a non hotmail adress on MSN.
But Agile seems to be better. And, I have the impression that Agile recovers better when having been without GPRS signal, like an underground.
MSN mostly did not recover and showed the "tap to sign in" so leaving me who knows how long without being on line.

Yes I also get this. It happens frequently but not always, and I've got a hotmail.com email.

Moandal,
Try Agile..... It (still) is for free. I use it day after day.
Don't change its notification sound however. I have the feeling that that may cause it freezing randomly.

I have agile working fine on my wizard but it cannot connect on tytn. the internet connection works fine. I get an error from agile saying "cannot connect, proceed to contact list?"
If anyone has this working can I trouble for the installer you used &/or any settings that may need to be configured?
Thanx; Lew
It is working fine in my TyTN, I installed directly from CAB version 3b, download here:
http://updates.am-im.net/AgileMessengerWMPPC.zip
I am using MSN, Jabber (XMPP) and GoogleTalk at the same time.
Thanks for the reply. I failed to specify that it was AIM that was not working.
Interestingly enough I was installing the same version you gave me the link to. However this time it worked fine.
I have run into another issue though... How do I set the voice record button? On my wizard I set it in an older version and it just stayed that button when I installed the newer versions. Now how do I go about setting it?
Thanx again; Lew
P.S. I searched their forums for this, they don't have ANY support for PPC.
I'm using Agile with both Yahoo and AIM with no problems at all...
Can you use push to talk?
I'm sorry, i've never used the PTT button... may be others can help you.
I use imov messenger which is based on the opensource Jabber.
It works great and maintains connections with most of the main messengers.
It is also free.
Paul.
First try selecting Options then Preferences and finally navigating to the Media Tab. If there's not a button that says "Assign push-to-talk button" on it then I think this thread might help as you may have the same problem with versions I encountered. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278714
Hi all,
This is just to note that BlackBerry Connect 2.1 (which was working fine with AKU 2.3) doesnot work with AKU 3.3 - RUU_Hermes_HTC_WWE_2.05.255.1_6275_1.34.00.10_108_Test.exe
Anybody tried it ?
Yeah - found the same problem here too. Running BB Connect 2.1.2.16 and aku 3.3, but no joy. Its a real pain cos 3.3 fixes the crappy BlueTooth car kit issues, so now I can call hands free without recsetting the headset profile, but no email!
Have you tried a later BB Connect version. I'm using 2.1.2.31 on my v1605 with the SA 1.35 ROM and 1.20 Radio.
I can't remember where I got the later version from but I thought it was from a link posted on here..... needless to say I can't now find it!
I guess I could upload it if it's not available anywhere else.
Scratch last comment. Someone has kindly uploaded 2.1.2.52 to /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/BlackBerry_Connect/
.... and it seems to work with AKU 3.3.
John
I can confirm this too - just got it from the ftp and it works a treat!
I finally love my TyTn now - BlackBerry, (working) BlueTooth for the Audi kit, Tom Tom - schweet!
Confirmed. BB Connect 2.1.2.52 works with AKU3.3
Yes. Confirmed that BB Connect 2.1.2.52 works well with AKU3.3.

Yes , it does. I use it now with Cingular ROM. Which ROM do you use ?
RUU_Hermes_HTC_WWE_2.05.255.1_6275_1.34.00.10_108_Test.exe
RUU_Hermes_2.05.261.1_6275_1.34.00.10_108_HTCRUS.exe
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe
???
Are you sure that 2.1.2.52 will work with all AKU 3.3 ROMs ?

I'm using RUU_Hermes_HTC_WWE_2.05.255.1_6275, Radio is 1.27.00.00 and it works fine with BB Connect 2.1.2.52
However I have not tried all sort of combination (variation of ROM + Radio combination).

This is a mail client. Mostly used for a corporate environments.
this is what blackberry's use im guessing? interesting. is it a better client than the outlook or active sync? i have my gmail and my corp exchange accounts setup through outlook and active sync. though my company says it will not support it. as they only support blackberrys. thanks.
I am thinking about trying BB Connect out but I have a few questions.
What items does BB connect sync? Is it just email, calender, and contacts? Does it do tasks and notes?
Does it replace the Outlook inbox or does it create a new inbox? Does it make the device any less stable? Can you still browse the web just like you can when you are on a PDA connect plan?
Sorry for all the questions.

1) At the moment, I notice BB Connect only push your corporate email down
2) It will create a separate Blackberry Account Folder with Inbox/sent/deleted items etc , will not overlap into your outlook folder
3) Its quite stable.
4) I need other's confirmation on this, It seems like cannot browse the web if BB Connect is activated (via GPRS or UMTS), the PIE and other client will keep trying and cause the GSM Modem redial ? Does it true that Internet browsing cannot co-exist with BB Connect ? Do we need to suspend BB COnnect in order to browse ? I found it quite annoying because I can connect to Yahoo IM, browse web and receiving push mail at the sametime on my BB 7290.
Hi all,
I need a all in one messenger which can help me login to Skype, Gtalk, Yahoo etc..
I tried using Nimbuzz, but it tells cannot connect to Nimbuzz server. Try after some time. My GPRS is working fine, but still not able to connect
I tried using Fring the same problem there also.
is there any other app. Pls let me know.
Thanks
Ganesh
I had the same issue with nimbuzz. But now it works fine. I like it because it's the best looking messenger app that I tried. What you need to make sure is that you create your nimbuzz profile on their website and link your instant messenger accounts to that profile. By doing so, when logging into nimbuzz mobile you only need to pass one login. Also, I found that on my device, the app is unable to open the network 3g connection on it's own. So I activate data connection before starting nimbuzz so it can be able to connect. Hope this helps
I use http://www.palringo.com/en/gb/ not sure about skype but Yahoo etc works
