Hi All
My XDA mini is only 3 days old.
First issue when i am on a call i get RF leakage all i can hear apart from the caller is the network ( like when you put your phone near a radio) its so loud my callers can hear it, i also recorded it, definatly not my ears.
I work for a telco so i had a collegue try his as he always uses hands free. Same thing. next i tried our test phone at work again same problem. This has been tested at various locations. All our other brand of phones and PDA's have no issue.
Secondly the speaker one minute i can hear my callers fine, next there voice is barely audible.
I was excited about this phone however have been met with severe disappointment.
I think it will be going back to the store within the next few days as early life failure.
It concerns me that there is RF leakage, as this is dangerous, i would have thought that this product would have had far more testing, especially as it is targeted at the business end of the market here in australia and with the concerns about phone radiation it just adds to the problem
Any one else experienced this, i'd love to know.
Cheers
Leah
With regard to the volume, i dont have any issues with mine at all (T-Mobile MDAc)
I don't get RF leakage either in normal calls (i.e using the phone to my ear like normal) I do get a lot of that when i use the phone in my car through the stereo.
I suggest you find someone else with this device and perform the same tests. Also, go back to your phone dealer (if you got it from a store) and ask them to swap it out.
Sorry i can't give you a more technical response.
The reception of Dopod 828 is very clear without any interference.
For radio frequency (electromagnetic wave) affecting human, there is a term called 'SAR' Specific Absortion Rate. The SAR indicated in my Dopod 828 manual is 0.254 W/kg @10g (ICNIRP) and that of XDAII mini should be 0.413 W/kg @10g (Pls check your manual and correct me if I am wrong). Both are much below the limit of ICNIRP 2.0 W/kg @10g.
I found that AU also ICNIRP instead of USA FCC one.
http://www.amta.org.au/default.asp?id=15
So I think your device may be defective. If you think there is RF affecting you or your property, you should replace it as soon as possible.
P.S. I am no telecom man, all the above information is found from internet.
I would say that your device is faulty... I had a similar problem with mine.
After 4 weeks the speaker stopped working. I couldn't hear anyone but they caould hear me. It has been at MPS in QLD for the last week. They replaced the speaker daughter board, speaker, and PHF connecter. I should get it beck on Monday, hopefully.

Is it true that you have to do the flip-and-rotate dance everytime, when you have to receive the call(or make the call) & when you dont want to use the speakerphone ??
I leave my phone in the closed clam position, got Microsoft Voice which tells me who's calling, so all I have to do is push the red or green on the side to ignore/answer the call...

but what if you are in laptop/clamshell mode?
then do u have to do the flip and rotate dance?
If you are laptop/clamshell mode, you can just answer with the buttons on the hinge, and answer the call with it shut. You probably wouldn't want it unnecessarily rotated, since you'll get face grease on your screen.
If you want to see who's calling, a quick lift and shut is all you need.
Cheers,
Steve.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can tell you that my experience thus far has been really ****ty as far as using this unit as a phone. the reason I say this, is that despite having updated my unit to the latest ROM upgrade , I'm still experiencing missed calls!
This despite my repeated attempts at contacting the clowns at the live online service at imate. Their email service has been better, but has yet to offer resolution to this immense problem. I say immense b/c I have paid around a grand for a pda with a phone which is completely unreliable as a phone.
Bear in mind, this is my imate experience.
hope this helps.

LOL you paid how much? you must be one of the unlucky ones. since I got my device, I've not really had a problem with the phone part, just the camera at the moment, which seems to be rom related.

I have never had any problem with the phone. But I have taken a couple of actions:
1. Disable the video phone component, it is bloaty and if you dont use video phones saves 3mb of operating RAM
2. I extended the time it takes to go through to voice mail from 10 seconds to 30 seconds
3. I dont vet any calls, if available, I just answer from the hinge whilst close, so I dont do any flipping to see first
4. My phone always answers at the beginning of the second ring, that with a 30 seconds to voice mail works fine
5. I never let my phone go below 15mb of available ram so it doesnt slow down.
So as a phone, its fine, as a pda its brilliant.
how d'ya do that
1. Disable the video phone component, it is bloaty and if you dont use video phones saves 3mb of operating RAM
is this an easy thing o do?
cheers.
very easy, its posted on WIKI.

To set or remove the operator phone skin
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin'
The 'Enabled' DWORD value can be set to '1' to show the operator skin or '0' to show the default skin
For example, to show the default skin
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0

Can't say I use the camera much, except perhaps for the strange or abnormal chest xray I may see at work. Otherwise useless.
Yes, I ended up paying a grand for this thing. Impulse purchase. What did you pay jojo?
I paid $1500 AUD, about $1100 USD.
I have always bought my phone outright for an unlocked phone that is not dependent or tied into a phone network.
Plus there are extended taxation benefits....
I love mine as a phone, best reception on both ends I have ever found with a phone.
Like everyones said, you can essentially answer a call 4 ways.
1. Default (clamshell shut)
2. Open it and flip it to portrait mode
3. Open it and use it in laptop mode w/speaker phone
4. Bluetooth headset.
personally the idea of Microsoft Voice Command sounds good cos I like to know whos calling, have it tell me would be pleasent
In any case, despite the ringtone not kicking in till the end of the second ring, I have scarecely missed a call. Actually short of not having the phone in an audible radius of me I dont think I have missed a call.
Its always good to have system memory but I dont notice a change in the phone service when my ram dips below 15mb.

I paid £150.00 for mine
so u mean i can answer a call with clamshell shut ??
is that true?
The answer to your question is yes. You can answer the phone with the clamshell shut.
Cons:
You will not be able to see who is calling.
You will need bluetooth or wired headset to answer the phone.
Caller ID numbers are available but not the caller name on Bluetooth devices like the BT800.
Personally, I use my Qtek 9000 more as a PDA than a phone.
It's a much better PDA than it is a phone. The keyboard and the screen on the Universal are the main reason why I bought it.
My advise, if you're planning on using it more as a phone than a PDA, then consider other devices. As a phone, it's heavy and bulky. As a PDA, I can only sing praises (except for the occasional soft resets that I have to do).
FYI, here are the main uses that I use the Universal for:
1). Streaming music while I'm driving
2). Watching avi files while I'm on break
3). Daily planner
4). Going online to check on info
5). GPS device with software and an external bluetooth GPS receiver
6). MSN messenger while I'm on road trips
Hope that helps in your decision.
I don't know how much you'll be paying for the Universal. I did pay a lot for it (since it's not available in the US with any cellular companies) but I consider one of the best investments I've made in a PDA/Phone.

Incorrect, the phone will answer perfectly well if you just pick it up and press the green button on the hinge. The three holes on the right of the case are for the sound to come through and the mic is at the bottom on the left of the keyboard.
This is a well thought out device.
If you have personalised ringtones for most of your contacts you should have a pretty good idea of who is calling anyway.
thanks everyone for blurring away the doubts

Or... Get Microsoft Voice 1.5, and the fantastic patch by R. Works A1 on mine, I keep the phone clam shut in a zip case. And get a "Call from X" loud and clear telling me who's calling... no need to open or owt, just red/green on the hinge... fantastic...
hello all this is my first post so ill try and be as quick and concise as possible.
i seemed to have lost all sound from the built in speaker. no clicking or any sound comes from it and the only way i can hear music, games etc is by using the hands free. i dont know whats caused it :-S i did use a charger which wasnt official, but it did have the same voltage rating as the device needed
all help is appreciated!

Mine had a dead speaker before. Went into the HTC factory for warranted repair twice. I think it is the same problem. Go contact HTC Europe, www.htceurope.com , give them a call and leave a message. They will call you back after a day or so. Just give them your IMEI and they will know if your phone is still under waranty or not. No other proofs are required.
My dear Wizard has broken. Again. In fact this would be the 5th time. But my supplier, 02, is breathing a breath of relief as I've just moved out of warranty and can't get it replaced again (ironically, the last send-in for repair was two weeks ago, which was in the warranty period.)
Anyway, the problem is this. The headset jack is borked. When headphones are plugged in, all the sound is horribly distorted - it sounds like I'm underwater. This is particularly pronounced for the speech part of the spectrum, leaving my music without lyrics!
This affects all headphones I use with it and isn't software as the speaker works fine. If I apply pressure to the jack pushing it up towards the screen, it can be made to sound ok. So I would guess it's a bad contact or some grime etc that's preventing a good electrical contact (the sound does feel like it's being put through a capacitance filter).
Any ideas how I can make it work again? If not, I'll have to go buy a bluetooth headset, but I'm a little skint right now..
No solution from me, but this might help. You can try checking with O2 regarding your current warranty as you have your phone just fixed 2 weeks ago. Some company will automatically renew the warranty period if the device is being fixed under warranty.
Good idea - but when I called up I asked about this to no avail. Turns out they don't provide a warranty on repair models. Arg.
you could try fixing it yourself, google for 'wizard service manual' there is a copy on another forum which you will have to register for, i don't know if there is one on this site
It might just come to that. I might just try blagging a repair - it seems a little out of order that they won't repair a defective phone they sent me somehow. Besides, if I have a phone that works, I can make calls and generate them revenue! But... if that fails, out come the screwdrivers.
Actually, the symptoms suggest to me that it's not broken per se, but rather dirty or similar. The distortion sounds like a capacitor which suggests the jack is being obstructed very close to the contact. Perhaps it needs a clean of a sort...
S*it the bed?
My phone has the same problem. But, i don't think an american carrier would be as understanding as a english carrier about modification, so you might have to do what i am going to do
1. Bribe someone at the T-Mobile store.
2. Bribe My Cousin at the Cingular Store
3. Check E-Bay for a cheep parts phone or a dummy who has a bad description for a phone.
I have to rave on this stereo BT head set. I have been tying to find one that I like for quite some time really exercising the 30 day return policies. I wanted somthing that had the best of both worlds, regular mono ear piece and an atachable ear bud for the stereo and this one has deffinatly got it right. Best sound yet, best fit and good looking. I was very impresed I think this one is a keeper, oh one down fall the price but still under $120.
I have one since december. It is (was) great, but...
The concept is great. The size too. The sound is OK to good with both earplugs. Problems are:
- the connection of the second earplug with the main one (the one with the battery) is very, very sensitive. After two months of use, it became so loose that I lost contact and couldn't use the stereo anymore. They should have made it like a "screw" plug or even an small USB plug, or RCA plug. The way it is, two small metal plates on the setero plug that have to "touch" another two small metal plates in the main plug is too sensitive and unreliable for real usage.
- two weeks ago, the place where you connected the stereo plug and which now I was using to plug the ear hook broke...
- Now I'm using it just with the earbud... only six months.
Again, great concept, and bad implemantation. I even thought about buying another one and use it more gently, but I guess that's unrealistic. I believe I should be able to put the headphone in my pocket or bag without worring too much.
duplicate, sorry.

I found and bought mine (Voyager 855) after searching on the internet...plain white box, plenty of replacement pieces, for onlyl.... ready for this....
$46.00.
The only issue I ever had was making sure it was connected when I needed it, installing A2DPToggle solved that issue, and all is now right with the world.

PS: got mine at cellphoneshop.net/855.html and have had several coworkers order from them and all has worked out well. Unfortunately, they've been out of stock for about a month now

How did A2DPToggle solve what? Mine stays connected most of the time.
SouthSideSvz,
before I installed the toggle, for unknown reasons the connection would drop and I found reconnecting a pain....
A caveat, though, this was happening when I first got the phone and the earpiece....haven't had any problems since then. But I have heard that the BT can drain the battery, so with the toggle I can shut down BT on the phone side too.
How much of it is a crutch, who knows... but I like it!

I just bought this same headset, and have also experienced it dropping connection and being hard to get reconnected. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. At this point, do you think the toggle app is actually helping the problem?
I'm wondering if it's not just the simple fact that you turn bluetooth off and on, so it sort of resets itself, rather than anything this program does differently. However, I'm more than willing to give it a try!
I have one since about 6 months ago. A friend of mine that works at Plantronics Mexico gave it to me as a present and to test it out.
Honestly it's been a great product, it even survived a trip to the washer machine and it's still ticking!
The only problem I see with this particular set is that the connector on the loop is really flimsy (I'm on my second loop) so you'd better be careful and never let it plugged in while you store it on your pants or backpack, it breaks really easy (maybe it's just because my unit it's a pre-production set) but be careful nevertheless.
The sound is really bassy and loud for such small speakers it has very nice sound range.
The battery lasts for a few days of moderate use on stereo and a few weeks moderate use on mono.
One thing I like about it (which many will find disturbing) is that it isolates all sound from the exterior, so be careful while driving or things like that.
I give a 8.5/10 to this product.
I liked mine as much as you did, but then it didn't last long enough as I explained above.
I do believe they can change the implementation and keep all its good qualities that are many (let's be honest, there is not one other set that is as discreet/small and less cumbersome than this). I would know how to do it, so they just have to be willing to do so, I guess.
Perhaps you can pass my ideas to your friend. I would share them for free...

I will pass the info to my friend ASAP. However as far as I know, the Bluetooth Division was recently moved to China...
I remember my pal told me beforehand that this particular model has some (undisclosed) issues (well he mentioned battery not lasting long enough). Same with a newer mono model called Diamond or something like that.
Hey, these are just user's ideas. I'm not talking about engineering stuff.
They seem to be simple things (though you never know) like:
- connection of the stereo earbud: the way it is, it is just two metal plates touching each other. Very easy for things to get loose and lose contact. Happened with me. They either should use a RCA type plug or USB type plug (most likely).
- Also the stereo connection is also used to help support the headset on our ears. Fact is the headset weight is put on...THE STEREO CONTACTS, helping them get loose. So, Ear hook should be separated from connection to relieve it from weight stress.
- they could position the stereo connection where presently is the charger, and perhaps (if possible) make the connection be dual function like the Kaiser, where you can use the mini-USB both to charge and to connect headphone.
My two cents. Seems feasible.
Got my voyager 855 and it's sounds muffled on one earbud (the one with buttons). Using Tilt with one of the hybrid Dutty roms. The one you piggyback to main unit sounds much louder and very clear. Tested also without putting them in ear and with eargels off, switched ears. Anything I can try before requesting a replacement?
Thanks!
Hi all,
My iPAQ has been noisy with calls since the first one I made after switching to AT&T.. Using 2 other SIM cards (all say 3G if it matters?) produces the same problems..The phone sounded totally fine on T-Mobile for the past year or two..
It also seems that the general sound level is much quieter now. I have to keep the call volume all the way up now and still have trouble hearing a lot of people. Before, with T-Mobile, I would have the volume all the way down, and it wasn't low ENOUGH on some calls!
AT&T can't find any reason for this, but doesn't 'officially support' my phone, because it's from HP and not sold by AT&T.. Yet it's the same as the iPAQ AT&T used to carry. I think that was the 6955? Cingular sold the 6925..
I hard reset my phone last week and that fixed my no-longer-working GPS problem, but this line noise problem didn't go away.
My phone has also been going through batteries in about 6-8 months.. The display flickers even though the battery has 60-70% charge indicated on the screen. It starts a lower % and then eventually gets higher and higher.. The last (and my first aftermarket) battery was defective, so it was replaced free. But now 6 months or so later, it's flickering again, so I'm picking up the ordered replacement later today for it.
I never had the noise problem before when the screen was flickery. I could get the phone down to 10% battery and still have clear calls. It has noise now with 100% battery and while plugged in at the same time.
Also, the phone now interferes with the amplifier in my powered computer speakers, in car stereos, clock radios, etc. It wasn't doing this before switching to AT&T. I had a Nokia in 1999 that caused these sounds, but my hw6945 and prior to that, an iPAQ 6315t (about 8 of those under warranty), never made these interference sounds in any other devices.
Has anyone else run into this?
Thanks in advance,
Eric
Update
So I got the replacement battery today, still no change though. Still noisy and still interfering with audio devices.
The guy at the AT&T store said if the SIM card was swapped "it's not the network causing the problem, so call tech support for more help." I'm going to call AT&T tech support for the third time now and see if they can help me.
update:
Tech support guy suggested putting card from my phone in my wife's LG Xenon and see if it's noisy.. It was not.
Also, the problem with the interference in nearby audio devices he says could be because AT&T operates in a different frequency band than T-Mobile. That would explain why my Nokia 10 years ago on AT&T interfered with the same devices.
Anyone have any ideas on this though? The noise in phone is really annoying to me, and it's more annoying to clients I speak with who haven't learned to live with this sound.
Thanks,
Eric
