T-Mobile USA, iMate Jam and GPRS. HELP!!!! - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hey there,.....ultimate noob posting here but here goes.
I have an unlocked iMate Jam on the T-Mobile USA network. I have upgraded my plan to include the internet on this phone. These are my phone settings/information:
ROM Version: 1.11.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.11.00
Protocol Version: 1337.42
ExtROM Version: 1.11.210 WWE
Model #: PM10C
The problem is that I cannot connect to GPRS to get or get MMS. I have gone through the connection settings with t-mobile reps about 20 times and I'm SURE they are correct.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Is it my ROM version. One t-mob rep seemed to think that my ROM version was unsupported. Has anyone else had this problem. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks.

By George, I think I've got it...
Hey, I think that one of the other guys on the forum, figured it out. Check out this post. It is working great for me. I love this forum!!!!!!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25662&highlight=tmobile+usa+gprs

I also have an Imate-Jam and I'd like some help from you guys sothat I can read and write chinese for text messaging... I know that there are softwares like monster chinese or CE-star about US $40, is there any alternate way instead of buying the software? since I'm not a bigpocket kinda person please help... thank you

GRRRR
Since the post from Elite has NOTHING to do with the subject of this forum, we are going to ignore it and continue to talk about this issue at hand.
FYI- After my last post, my GPRS internet seems to be working fine. I have to soft reset every once in a while but considering the level of functionality that I have had up till now, I'll take whatever I can get.
The only obstacle left for me is MMS. The iMate notifies me that an MMS message is available for download but when I click on download, it attempts to open my WAP connection (T-mobile rep said that MMS always uses a WAP connection) the connection says that it connects (after looooonnnnggg time) and then says 'receiving' but it NEVER downloads the rest of the MMS message.
All I want to know is if any other T-mobile USA customers have had similar problems. If so, is there any info you can provide me that would help me fix this for all of us.

Ok well here is the 411 on gprs and mms on T-mobile I have run and used both since the xda II was out. I now have a xda IIi and confirm everything works fine. You need to make sure you have the right internet or data service enabled before try! They have two data services. One is just wap which does not give you full access to the internet as in open ports on there network. The other is unlimited internet which is like 19.99. That gives you full access. Configure your device as the following and you will be fine for mms. Also you need your apn correct. Usually on tmobile its internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com. You can call in and ask.
MMS Setting are as follows on any pocket pc phone.
1 Under My Work Network, select “Add a new modem connection”
2 Enter a name for your connection; I used “MMS”
3 From the Select a modem drop down choose Cellular Line (GPRS)
4 Tap Next
5 In the text box labeled (Access point name) type in wap.voicestream.com
6 Tap Next
7 Leave the User name, Password, and Domain fields blank
8 Tap Finish
9 Tap the Proxy Settings tab
10 Place a check in both boxes
11 Leave “Proxy server” blank
12 Tap Advanced
13 Leave HTTP and Socks Server fields blank.
14 Enter 216.155.165.50 for your WAP server. Port # is 9201
15 Enter 216.155.165.50 for your Secure WAP server. Port # is 9201
16 Tap OK twice
Now go to your MMS program and set it up, create a new server and I called mine T-Zones. Here are those settings.
Server Name: T-Zones
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port: 9201
Server Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Tap ok
Now go to preferences and enter these settings,
Connect Via: My Work Network
Connect to Server: T-Zones
(check the box to retrieve messages immediately)
And it should work.
Enjoy!

MDA II Cingular GPRS settings

I just bought a (German ver.) MDA II. I have followed every tutorial I came across to set my phone for Cingular GPRS. I've signed up for the internet service through Cingular so this thing should work.
When I try to connect to the GPRS it says:
Cannot Connect
-------------------------------
Cannot connect for unknown reasons....
What can I possibly be doing wrong? Trust me, I have tried every different setting I ran across i.e. WAP, Data, Dialing Rules.
I know nothing (yet) about flashing or editing a ROM but intend on learning later. Is it possible that someone out there has a pre-configed ROM that I could flash this thing to solve _all_ of my problems?
Although this phone is from Germany, I believe the company I bought it through flashed the ROM for me to the English version??
ROM Version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date:12/03/03
Radio Version: 1.06.01
Protocol Version: 1337.16
ExtROM Version: 1.60.06
Is it my settings? Is it my ROM version? Am I holding my tongue right?
I beg and plead for your help.
Thanks!
Be glad to help. here are the settings I have discovered after much searching:

cmccarter - Thanks for all of the info. I am much closer than before. I can connect via WAP now and my MMS is now configured correctly. THANKS!! BUT!!! It's still not allowing me to connect via GPRS. It still says that it cannot connect for unknown reasons. What else could I check??
What do you mean you couldn't get it to work after adding the media works package? Which connection stoped working?
Which brings me to another question; why would I use WAP over CSD or Data over CSD?? I don't know the difference. Heck, I don't even know the difference between WAP & GPRS. Can you tell I'm confused?
I used Afrocream's GPRS settings on this thread:
CLICK
They're almost identical, but what the heck. Works for me. Be careful of your entries and the CASE. UPPERCASE must be uppercase.
Also, be aware that (I believe) the SMS dial number *might* be regional. My phone uses a different number.
For more info on the differences between CSD & GPRS go to:
http://www.howardforums.com/
In the Cingular Message area there you will find lots of info.
I was unable to get the connection to isp.cingular to work and after talking to the CSRs at Cingular determined that it was not included in the Media Works package... no great loss as you can apparently tether to wap.cingular just as well. (tether= connect your pc via your phone using a cable, bluetooth or IR)
I might be mistaken but I have the Mediaworks package and, other than WAP sites, I'm connecting to isp.cingular.
re:
i just switched over to cingular and for the life of me cannot connect ot gprs or wap. i followed the direstions to the letter and im stuck please help...
seattleboi -- from what you posted it's very difficult to know what's going on. What happens when you try to connect? Are you sure there's no error in your entries (a slight typo, an unneeded space, etc?)
Are you sure that you have GPRS enabled with Cingular and that there's no problems in your area? Have you slipped the SIM card into another phone to confirm this?
Since these settings seem to be working for most of us (with iMate and other phones) there's no easy way to figure out why it's not working for you.
i did, it works now, but for some reason like every 4 hours it will not connect even rebooting several times, i end up deleting the connection settings and end up redoing them and rebooting a couple times to get it to work, my suspsicions are starting to fall on the rom image that im using, maybe skewring them up, the Rom i am using is the latest ATT rom WM 2003 that i made in the kitchen, so later on today i guess i will have to try the t-mo rom and see is that is giving me problems, (Evidently the night i did try to connect the GPRS network was down) and yes i did try with another phone i have a 3650 at my fingertips from Cingular to try. 8)

Your setting is for WAP and MMS, not GPRS.
Go to 'Setting', 'Connection', 'Connections', Add a new modem connection, Select a modem 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G), APN: cmnet, then leave all other fills blank.
access point: cmnet

Some mistakes in the previous messages.
As a reminder, you can do WAP over GSM or over GPRS as well.
And you can do web surfing or other applications like Skype for instance or other protocols like FTP over GSM or GPRS as well also.
So, to sum-up CMWAP and CMNET are two different APN in order to acces to CMCC GPRS.
CMWAP is used for WAP browsing, but it works also for web! I use it on my Alpine since many months. It seems that you're charged per minute.
CMNET is used for Skype, FTP and other stuff like that. Charged by volume.
I don't know the cost even if I use it now since more than one year
Parameters:
APN: cmwap
In "Proxy Settings", check "This network connects to the Internet"and also "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet". Then fill the field name "Proxy server" with: 10.0.0.172
Then click on "Advanced..." button
In front of HTTP, the port should be 80
In front of WAP, the port should be 9201
In front of Secured WAP, the port should be 9203
In front of Socks, the port should be 1080
APN: cmnet
Click on "Advanced..." button and go to "Servers", then select "Use specific server address" and fill it as following:
DNS: 211.136.20.203
Alt DNS: 211.136.20.203
and don't care about the homepage, you can put what you want and not only Wap.monternet.com
MMS Settings:
Gateway: 10.0.0.172
Port number: 9201
Server address: http://mmsc.monternet.com
I can warrant you that all is working perfectly with these settings all over China since my arrival here (November 2004).
By the way, if you have any information about the billing on each APN, I'm interested in!
Hope it helps!
CMWAP is 20RMB for Month!!!!!!
but by using it I can't connect to MSN...can you?
CMNET...I will try now and I will let you knoe the costs

no way to connect to CM NET....I will call the Customer support and I will let you know
Really strange that you cannot connect to CMNET with these parameters...
And I'm not sure that CMCC Customer Support can do something for you as your terminal will be "Unknown" in their list... after they're definitely lost :?
Where are you living? At Shanghai the both APN works perfectly, and on all the other provinces I've visited CMWAP is working well (I never used CMNET outside Shanghai).
As I said on the previous post, it's normal that you can't use such kind of application like MSN with CMWAP APN!
About the cost of 20RMB for connecting CMWAP you surprise me coz I only have a prepaid GSM subscription... So it should mean that if I connect one time in a month I will be charge 20RMB and if I connect during many days I will be charge the same price...
I will try to have a look to CMCC wesite with my chinese teacher next time
Sure, in many Chinese cities, the CMCC began their service of 20 RMB per month for CNWAP since 2005.
but for me, I use CMNET and CMWAP both, GPRS is specially for my MSN and mail-box. but be careful, the price of GPRS is 0.03 RMB per KB!
but in Shanghai, I don't think the CMCC will give you the price of 20 RMB per month, for as everybody knows, Shanghai is an expensive city, and your Shanghaier are richamen...
Damn the CMCC!
You can surely get the CMWAP package for 20RMB in Shanghai. And CMNET got package as well, which is pretty exp.....
OK, you can get these kind of package for CMWAP as well as for CMWEB APN.
But it's not mandatory.
Since one year, I'm only using prepaid for these 2 APN.
I'm going to check if these packages are more interesting, but I doubt...
That really depends on ur usage. You can turn on the service of gprs with choice to be charged by kb or package, no matter prepaid or contract as long as u pay the money.
I did hear that someone surfs the internet by using proxy in wap, but i havent comfirmed that by myself. If it works, that really saves a lot.

Please see my first post on this thread. It's really easy to surf on the web using CMWAP APN. You just have to configure the Proxy server as I said.
Good luck
You might want to check the connection rules:
start->settings->connections->connections ?
in the settings/GPRS Setting, try to chek if the CHAP authentication is checked.

Cingular 8125 on AT&T

Can someone point me in the right direction I've doen numerous searchs and talked to tech support (useless) . I have a 8125 that I picked up, although I am a AT&T sim card user (our company hasn't upgraded yet) so I unlocked the phone and it works great. although I can not access mmode or anything email or Internet related unless using wifi.
Can someone point me in the right direction for some instructions on how to get this thing set up to work with the legacy AT&T wireless system?
You need to manually enter the AT&T GPRS and MMS settings.
Call up AT&T and ask for the necessary information. They'll give it to you.
PM me you're email address I have the cab file that I can send to you.

Well they don't exist anymore and the guys at Cingular could only get me so far. that's why I'm looking around for it.
Mark, you have a PM, thanks in advance
Cab file didnt work Mark. Only change it made was resetting my today backround to the default. all the settings are still the same.
is there a list of settings or a walk through for setting it up manually somewhere?
It should have worked.
Here is what I have:
MMS Configuration

http://mymsc.mymmode.com
My Work Network

AT-T Internet
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Proxy - Proxy Name

This network connects to the internet
This network uses a proxy server
WAP 10.250.250.250 9201
Secure WAP 10.250.250.250 9203
Hope this makes sense.
Another option is to go to the Cingular web page and choose Support, Phone/Device Support.
Select the following:
Network: former AT&T Wireless"
Manufacturer: Siemens
Model: SX66
Use the information in Device Setup to configure the browser/internet and MMS settings. It won't match exactly because the SX66 is a 2003 device, but you should be able to figure it out.

Think I just found a form that can help: tmo MMS not working on 8125

Hello Everyone/Rambo6 ... I'm a newbie to this forum. Please help before me I give up on my 8125 ...
I have an unlocked cingular 8125 using tmobile service. I have not been able to get MMS to work yet (I'm pretty sure my settings are correct). I've been spending 3 days now on 4 different forums, but I still can't get an answer. I was really happy to see that Rambo6 (in one of the threads) got his to work, so I'm sure I've found the right place to get help.
I guess the questions are:
1) What am I doing wrong?
2) Do I need to flash with a TMO ROM? I tried to update the ROM from tmo website but I got an error, I think it was something like "invalid vendor" ... or something like that. I'm currently using the Cingular ROM. Phone & SDS works.
3) Does anyone have a step by step process on this? With pics would be awsome.
4) Is my phone not fully unlocked eventhough I can use the tmobile SIM for phone/SMS?
Here my ppc info:
ROM version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 4.1.13.12
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.25.102
my settings was based on (from tmo website):
wap.voicestream.com
216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field
8080 in the Port number field
http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms in the Server address field
WAP 2.0
I did spent time reading through this forum (and a lot on other forums). I apologize if this has already been answered. I did honestly tried to search 1st.
bump !
i myself have been searching aswell looks like its a common issue with the cingular 8125 .
um.. did you edit the media net connection to point to tmo? im not clear on the tmo settings, but i know on cingular, the mms settings uses the media net connection, if i have my edge on MY Isp it fails (im assuming it needs that proxy from MEdia net) so basically you will need the internet settings as well...
I used the following settings from the tmobile website. I have a feeling I need to use the tmobile ROM. I'm a little worried because I have not found on this forum how to verify if my device is actually cid unlock. From what I can tell I have a G3 (IPL/SPL 2.25) chip so there is an unlock tool for that. I just need a way to verify that cid unlock actually worked.
Anyway, I took a risk and tried to flash with the tmobile ROM and got "Invalid vendor ID". I've been brousing this forum for this, but haven't found an answer yet. I guess if some one know please tell me now ... I've been spending 3 days now (actually 4 now) reading & reading & reading. Would be nice to get an answer now. What's wrong? Do I need a tmobile ROM? Thanks!!!

Shoganmark,
I read your reply but I didn't absorve (spelling?) it very well. I'm a little tired ... have not had much sleep. After reading your reply again, I think (maybe) I know where your getting at. I'll think about it a little more to make sure I really do understand what you're saying before I ask anymore dumb questions. Thank for your reply.

wasnt really a dumb question... just had to get it figured out.. i am cingular and not sure what the tmo connections look like, but i assumed they worked in the same manner as cingular, i didnt know if there were 2 different edge settings on tmo like cingular.. and i may not have explained it the best, but i was trying to explain how cingulars connection worked so that maybe in understanding that it would help your mms problem...
Have you gotten it to work yet?
let me try to break down how cingular's works and make it a little more understandable, hopefully this will help you figure your tmo problem out..
On the connections tab cingular has 2 gprs settings
MEdia Net (uses a proxy server)
MY Isp (does not use a proxy)
Now by default cingular is set to MY Isp (due to wifi, wifi will not work if set to MEdia net due to the proxy server)
Then of course in the MMS folder settings is the MMS connection settings...
Now if the phone is set to my isp it will not send an mms message (im guessing due to the proxy server.. sounds like a pain in the a$$ yet?)
in order for me to send an mms i have to set the phone to MEdia net (im guessing again due to proxy)....
Hello ShogunMark,
Unfortunately I was NOT able to get MMS to work. I tried soft reset & power
down also. Anyway here's what I've done so far:
1) For Connections I use MEdia Net (setting up for internet)
based from: http://tmobileus.wdsglobal.com/wap?...mobileNumber=&captchaEnabled=true&service=wap
Name for Connection: PictureMessaging
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access point: wap.voicestream.com
PROXY:
Proxy Server: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
This nework connect to the internet: checked
This network uses a proxy ....: checked
# I see the following but didn't change it ... not sure what to
# set it to (and tmo instruction didn't say anyting about this)
Socks: localHost: 1080
2) For MMS profile:
based from:

There's gotta be a stupid little thing I'm overlooking ... I'm just out of ideas now. This does not have anything to do with which ROM (Cingular vs TMO) correct? I don't think so, but then again there may be something hidden in the ROM.

# set it to (and tmo instruction didn't say anyting about this)

help is what this community is for... no need to thank me
I'm not a WM5 and HTC Wizard expert yet (had the device less than a month and its my first WM device) so if i don't help i'm sorry, but i'll try anyways.
From what i know WM dosen't include MMS capabilities built in so my Wizard, T-Mobile MDA (US), uses something from ArcSoft to do that, i'm sure yours does too as HTC probably chose that. Have you looked into the settings for MMS Composer (the stuff by ArcSoft)?
The easiest way to do that i found was simply open up Pocket Outlook like you do to send an MMS -> Hit Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Tap "MMS" (may be named something else i can't say for Cingular's ROM) -> Hit "Servers" tab -> Ensure that new connection you set for MMS as T-Mobile told you via their site is the one MMS composer is set to use.
I can't imagine why it wouldn't work if that's set right... But post if that helps at all or not
Don't get rid of the 8125 though we'll all crack at it till it works
Hello Frazell,
You are correct about Arcsoft ... I did noticed that MMS uses Arcsoft (I saw that in the "About"). I went through the setup as stated at tmobile website already ... so I'm surprise too why it didn't work. Maybe this will give my helpers some more hints ... when I hit send:
1) The 1st pop-up widow is: "Connecting to PictureMessaging, Connecting to
GPRS" I didn't see any error here so I assume it's ok.
2) On top of the today screen, I see a yellow envelope with a gree arrow.
I assume that means it's trying to send.
3) After a little while, I see "unable to send message" pop-up.
4) Now, if I got to the comn manager, I see the "Data Connection" is active.
I think it turns on when I send a MMS. If this is true, then this connection
being on means I can get a connection via GPRS?
5) Another note that I don't think I've mentioned. I am using the prepaid
t-mobile plan. MMS is suppose to be provided with the prepaid plan
(25cents per pic), so I'm not sure if this is a problem. I've already
checked with t-mobile that SMS & MMS are activated on my account.
ps. I've been searching on differnet forums (howardforum, pocketpcaddict ....), and I see some other people have this problem also. Most of the posts I see never had a reply, so I don't know if they solved it or not.
1 more edit to add: Both my wife and I have the same phone with the same problem, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.
(edit: fixed spelling)
with prepaid can u browse the internet....... if not u will not b able to send mms messages

im downloading a tmo us rom now... gonna pick apart the ext rom and see whats there.. hopefully i can come up with something to help you guys
ok, i found about 5 necessary cabs in the ext rom.. one makes the mms folder and some other reg settings, the rest makes the connections between internet and MMS.. i put a config text inside to show the order to install the cabs.. then reboot.. see if this solves your problem
Shogunmark,
I was not able to install the 3rd cab ("P_Generic_Conn_Settings.CAB") ... Got an "unsuccessful" installation. Should I continue
to install the rest?
my port is 9201 other than that everything else looks the same.

T-Mobile internet settings

I recently got an unlocked cingular 8525, and I have been using it with my T-Mobile service. The only thing that I need help with is what do I need to do to the phones internet settings to use it with my T-mobile service. So if someone could tell me the internet settings, that would be great.
this is what you need works a treat on my mda varioII with the new 2.05 rom.
Link Here
Thanks, but I live in the US, so I dont think those settings will work. Can someone send me the US settings.
Start-Settings-Connections-Connections
Add a New Modem connection
Name: T-Mobile Data
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS,3G)
Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
No user name, password or domain
Finish.
If there are any other modem connections you can delete them.
Now Start-Settings-Connections-Connections-Advanced
Select Networks
Change programs that automatically connect to "T-Mobile Data"
Surf away. If you need the MMS settings:
Go the MMS inbox Menu-Tools-Options
Tap MMS to change settings tap servers tab on bottom
Chose New
Server Name: T-Mobile
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: T-Mobile Data
Size limit: 100k
Wap Version: 1.2
Hope this gets you going. Also, if you haven't already, I would suggest flashing a HTC rom on the device. This will give you voice command via the PTT button, among other useful updates.
Thanks. Will flashing a new rom erase all of the standard programs factory installed on the phone?
