What's your battery life? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Greets.
I have an Qtek S100 and it only last for 2 days max.
And I don't do alot of phone calls...
Is this normal?

And mine 2 days as well. but i think it's normal.

I read somewhere that the today plugins (phonealarm etc) suck up a lot of juice. Since the PDA part of the phone is switched off all day, I dont' see why it should?
V

I use Pocket Plus and I see no difference, even after a hard reset it last the same.

Is there any way of knowing the time that the device will last on standby?
Just like the pocketplus plugin, but for the standby?

Fairly boring actually, stays behind a cover and rarely gets to see daylight except for when his twin brother comes in and takes his spot.

My lasts about 30-35 hours ... i talk nearly 30-40 minutes a day

XDA2i battery life

what sorta battery life do you guys get? Mine's about 3-4 hours (less if i use BT and WLAN!)
admitedly i didnt leave it charging for the full 18 odd hours 1st time round, so i bought another battery (needed a spare anyway) and made sure it was charged up 100% correctly...
its giving me exactly the same battlife!
obviously turning it off/standby itll last ages, but its crap when using the PDA!
am i doing something wrong?

3-4 hours is especially bad though.. mine will last a day or maybe a day and a half depending on use, but no where near as good as my old xda II
i got 2 hours out of it yesterday night...
i turned on bluetooth and wifi, and watched it die (just left it on the desk n pressed the screen every now and then)
now surely 2 hours cant be right? i'm having to leave it plugged into the pc all day at work AND carry a spare battery!
Mine seems just OK. I took it off the charger last night at around 10pm and by 5.30 this afternoon the battery was down to 59%. That's with several calls made -no wifi - about 30 mins GPRS browsing - but BT was on all the time.
I'm switching BT off until I need it, and seeing if that makes any difference.

Wifi will suck the life out of it, Jim. Have you been through all the usual suspects like beaming etc?
Kevin
wow jim thats really bad.. have you tried discharching it completely, then leaving it on the charger for about 12 hours, and doing that a couple of times? sometimes that improves battery life.
i think i might try the worst case scenario you did and see how long mine lasts
kevin.. that sounds half decent.. especially with BT on the whole time. sounds like you're one of the lucky ones
Battery
I am the sort to cover all bases so please do not get me wrong.
Bro have you configured your Xda IIi backlight and power to go on standby mode yet?

tried it with mine, had bluetooth on (not connected to anything tho), wifi on (not connected to anything, but it was finding wireless networks every 10 secs or so and kept popping up that do you want to connect bubble), recieve incoming beams was ticked, gprs was connected and it was getting used a couple times each hour to sync my email, and i probably received about 4 phone calls and made one or two. my cpu was set to standard (not turbo)
mine lasted for 4 hours at this rate, so a fair bit better than yours.. unless you were actually using bluetooth and/or wireless
its now as low as hours!!!!
even with every power saving thing on possible, i can only push it to 3!!!!
o2 will swap my phone over, will do this on monday/tuesday (just gonna pop into shop) but it means getting the new one unlocked again... grr
wow thats pretty horrible. good luck with the next one
just upgraded to the imate rom (which is always clever before taking somthing back to the shop )
its now giving me 4 hours instead of 2... so it's gone up
i dont think my himalaya last much longer unless i let it go into standby
and lower the brigthness when using batt
4 hrs is not normal either, usually my 2i can last for 8 hrs (not counting stand by of course). yesterday it suddently ran out of battery within 5 hrs and really had me worried for a while. Than I found out it was because I adjusted the backlight brightness to very high. It seems the LCD backlight has a major effort of consuming battery power.
Tricks summed up from other topics:
* Darken your On Barrery backlight brightness (Start-Settings-System-Backlight-Brightness)
* Shorten your On battery backlight remain time (Start-Settings-System-Backlight-Battery Power)
* Set your CPU mode to standard (Start-Settings-System-Power-Processor)
* Close incoming beam monitoring (Start-Settings-Connections-Beam)
* Try you best not to connect any network (Bluetooth, GPRS, WLAN...) :?
* Put less item on your today screen
* Some software has update or refresh service running on background, try to increase their interval:
[list:8501145cfd]- OmegaOne BatteryPack has a default setting of 30 sec update interval, and a network activity monitor. All can be disabled in today item's options.
- Marsware WeatherPanel has a default setting of 30 min update interval
- All alike stuff you can think of ...
* Applications remain in memory when you click "X", shut them down if not using anymore. (Start-Setting-System-Memory-Running Programs)
- Some apps have convenience tool to do this, such as OmegaOne BatteryPack, or O2Plus.

There is a fix due next week, i currently have the beta firmware installed and its increased my battery life by 3 fold.
Wait for the next firmware and all will be sorted

rom upgrade! where?!
where can I find a rom update for my XDA?! it doesn't have a specific carrier.... I bought it with english software.
I do not find battery with a better autonomy for the 2020i! Does it exist?
like 1800 mAh or 2000 mAh !!!
Up ...
No idea ??? :?

Works well too.

Short battery life on HTC, is this what you are seeing?

I've read a few posts on HTC Wizard battery life and I'm trying to quantify what I'm seeing (which is hard given varying conditions under which the device can be used and what features are active but I'll attempt that here). I'd really like to hear what other pepole are experiencing under similar conditoins.
I’m getting about two days worth of battery life before the unit is warning that the device needs to be recharged. Here’s what I’ve done with it over the past 2 days:
· 47 minutes time spent using the phone. I get the full 4 signal bars just about everywhere I go, including and the office and at home. I have not used the speakerphone at all.
· About 1 hour of PDA use
· Bluetooth and WiFi have been off. There was no GPRS use during this time.
· The screen brightness is set to the lowest level possible, one setting above the backlight being completely off.
· When on battery power, the backlight automatically shuts itself off after 30 seconds and the device turns itself off completely after one minute.
· I’m running Windows Mobile 5.0
The battery currently reads 18% after 2 days.
Is this in line with what other people are seeing?
I used to drain my wizard to about 50-60% in one day (from morning to evening), when I still let it go to standby, so that seems about right. It goes down a bit faster now because I always leave it on (just let the backlight go off of course) so agile messenger will stay online...
I'm pretty sure this battery life is pretty good for a pda phone though, you can't compare this to a regular phone.
I always connect it to the charger at night so it's no problem for me, and I bring a very small usb cable (like 15 cm) when I don't sleep at home. Usually there's an opportunity to connect the wizard to a computer somewhere so it'll charge, the computer doesn't need to recognize the wizard for that.
I need to charge my Wizard evry night, if it's friday with party etc alot of calls i need to have my samsung d600 with me becuase the qtek goes empty around 23.oo :/
Just done a typical "intensive" day, and I'm really pleased of that thing. Here's what I've done:
~50 min on the phone
~2h30 MP3 playing with TCPMP, LCD off of course
~30min e-mail and internet through wireless
obviously a bit more PDA use, cause uptime meter says 4h39
I still have 54% battery at the moment.
Useful to mention, forgot to turn off wireless after browsing, so it stayed on for like 1hr with device off, and that still drains juice.
Backlight is set at the middle.
Once again, my BA would be dead by now. I had ~4h PDA use at standard clock settings, 2hr with wireless on. The Wizard just doubles both these figures. I definitely understand why they've dropped that guzzling XScale... wish there could be an optimised version of TCPMP soon though, video playback is the only thing where i see a real difference in speed, haven't managed to have a video playing smooth without hangups yet.
Skype doesn't run well, but it didn't either with the BA without overclocking it at the maximum it would hold, giving a stunning 1h30 battery life (with wireless on obviously). The device was really hot while doing this, and the standard charger would not give enough current even to power the device, battery was still going down when connected. Had to use a 2A Axim adapter to charge while skyping
So definitively a GREAT improvement.
I used my MDA Vario the other day and it went down to 18% in approx 4 1/2 hours.
Screen was at max brightness and on for the whole time,
Tom Tom running.
Bluetooth on
About what I'd expect. I don't think my Treo 650 would be much better in similar circumstances.
I just updated the other thread about the battery that up till now its been fine but two days ago the dreaded issue started with me too
I've just lost 20% in 3 hours without doing anything (its been off since)
AKU2 rom gives a definite improvement, I can have 85% left after a day of normal use.

Which AKU2 rom. T mobile hasn't released one for my phone yet, to my knowledge.
The qtek rom, many vario users are using this rom out of frustration for t-mobile not releasing theirs.

Hey if you upgrade the ROM you should run some tests before installing any applications. It would be a definite advantage to make sure it's not some buggy app that's causing your battery drain.
agreed... I think that is my issue too that it could be a memory leak somewhere in one of the programs
can only put it down to registrywizard, uptime, or resco, the latter i doubt very much though
I upgraded my vario to the newest imate rom and would totally recommend doing so.. my battery life is about double what it used to be now (may have installed something dodgy that was draining it though)
Its also much faster in operation and seems to be a lot more stable too (I suffered a lot from the random reboot problem previously)
what did you upgrade from?
and what rom version are you running? the ones on the ftp for kjam are numbered a bit strange and can be confusing
The numbers are confusing for me as a noob to WM5/wizard.
What is the difference between the Qtek & the Imate roms?

WiFi doesn't drain battery when the device is turned off, cause the WiFi module will also be turned off automatically - just test it: leave WiFi on and press the power button - after a few hours look at the effect on the battery...
I usually recharge my Vario every 3-4 days. Although I don't use WiFi and I also don't make many long calls I usually use GPRS always on to receive my mails. I also use BT quite often to listen to music over my A2DP headset - maybe one hour per day on average...
So there must be something wrong with the devices of some of the people posting here... :!:

tytn battery life

yo homies
just wondering what sort of batterylife are you getting out of your tytns.
post your times like this
wifi--
media playback--
phone--
GPRS--
anything else you care to mention--
cheers Ganon
firstly bought my 838pro (dopod variant) less than a week ago, so have not gone through everything yet
wifi - yet to try
media playback - little
phone - 2hr+ per day
GPRS - yet to use (did play with the videophony a few days back)
Battery was recharged about 3 days ago, so its ~3days I guess...
One thing to take note is the battery indicator is bit querky, the level is scaled on a 10% rate, eg 100%->90%->80% etc
Battery Seem to last for a bit m ore than a day depending on usage.
I believe that it has the stardard/average PPC phone battery power longetivity but the battery reports every 10% instead of 1% is inacceptable...
Battery Indicator
Does anyone know how modify the battery indicator to run at 1% intervals?
I cannot find a solution to this yet. Hopefully some of the experts will...
I dont get why the fact that the battery goes down in
10% leaps instead of 1% bothers people so much. It does not make the thing less accurate,
perhaps it makes it even more accurate since depending on use one percent might
go a lot faster then another.
I'am quite a heavy user, so I recharge daily for few hours, when
the phone is connected to my comp.
I understand. As a heavy PDA Phone user. The TyTN battery seems to last for quite a long time. But the increment of 10% is too big for a battery meter.
Just like a thermometer, 2~3 degree celcius changes are not very significant for what we feel. But that doesnt mean it shouldnt show every 1 degree
For the car fuel indicator, no one would want it to pop from 10% to 0% all in a sudden. Altho we all know that 10% means low on fuel.
The resolution of 10% is too big IMO for this application UNLESS there is a significant reason for it to be 10% like it will drain ALOT of battery if it is being reported every 1 or 2%.
Hi
My XDA trion makes me sad.
The first time all works fine, but now the charging end at 90% and after 1 day the battery-tool says "low of battery"!
I tried a softreset, but the problem dont disappeared.
Can you help me?
EnzephaloN
I read in some review that it can play MP3s for 8 hours? Has anyone tried how long they can play MP3s for?
I have the same problem as EnzephaloN.
After charging my Dopod 838 pro to full charge in the afternoon. The following day, when i wake up, it is down to 20%!!
Has anyone else experienced the same problem?
I barely used the phone during this period and I have turned off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

mine's even worse, charge overnight, and after taking of charge at 9am it's dead by 4pm after just a few calls and the rest of the time on standby, noticed that the machine stays slightly warm all the time. the few times that it has held a charge it is cool to the touch, even when using it
switch to gsm band.......and use UMTS band only if necesary
am using only gsm band, but still the machine only lasts 4-5 hours on a charge. Stays warm the whole time

Mine only gets warm with intense browsing, streaming media, or wi-fi use more than 30min or so.
Also when i have UMTS/3G off mine will last all day. but with it on, it'll last a little more than half a day.
if it stays warm, i suspect you have some background task running all the time or your power saving has been turned off, why don't you do a full backup, then hard reset and test again? mine works more than a day with UMTS turned off and less than a day with it on.

[Solved] Battery usage

So im trying to figure out where my battery is draining to... I cannot go a full day on a battery charge and its really annoying at night it jsut dies and plus i cant really do too much on it for fear of battery drainig itself. Is there a way.. i can check to see what might be taking up battery
Wifi off
GPS Off
no 3G in the US
Bluetooth Off
Push Mail off... (though am syncing 3 mail accounts every 2 hours... minimal mail though)
Internet usage 30 minutes (besides, weather stocks)
Phone usage .. about 60 minutes in the day
Gyrator on
General usage.. games, tinkering etc (60 minutes... hey its still relatively new)
Appreciate the input.
Strange..
I've got two mail accounts, talked for 15 minutes with a bluetooth headset (been connected all day).
From 06 in the morning until now at ten in the evening I still have 7 bars on the battery. (three in the TF3D)
Consider doing a hard reset and set up stuff and see if that helps..
After tinkering for a couple of weeks, I hard reset and just put back on what I want. I also used Tweak HD which has a few tweaks to lengthen battery life. It made a big difference to me.
Orinigally it had drained in about 18 hours, afterwards it went slightly over 40 hours.
this is strange - i use my phone alot and it easily lasts 2 days
have you tried replacing it? when i bought my first diamond it was faulty, replaced it and batteyr life changed
also try flashing a stock rom on again and see what happens - less than a day - defo not right!
diamond v hd
had 3 diamonds, battery was lucky to last 10hrs, ate 2680mA battery packs like jaws ate boats!
HD, charge 1 every 2 days.... huge improvement... would love it to last longer, but its a million times better than the diamond and thats all that matters...
HD battery life in conclusion, is great, and i do hammer my phone usage!
I'm seeing similar battery issues as the OP. I barely make it through a 12 hour day on a charge, although I get a lot of e-mail on 2 accounts (one checked every 15 minutes, the other every 2 hours). In an effort to track down battery drain, I downloaded and installed HomeScreen PlusPlus and find that at rest with screen intensity at 60% my HD draws 150 mA, with the screen dimmed at 10% it draws 70 mA, and in standby (blank screen) it's drawing 30 mA. When the data connection is active, it draws between 250-300 mA, and when using the phone with screen on about 400 mA. I figure that with those numbers and a 1350 mA battery, 10-12 hours is all I can expect. If anyone else is monitoring their battery draw, I would appreciate seeing your numbers for comparison.
Oooh this is a good idea...
anyone else done homescreen++ to find battery drainage.. im going to get to it this weekend...
Have the same issue.... I have nothing special installed and for some reason it drains very fast on basic features.....
Same issue here
Recently I've been getting less than 12 hours out of a full charge. I've uninstalled a few things and turned bluetooth and wifi off and today it seems better with about 80% left after 10 hours
Vaguely considering a hard reset if the problem continues...
have fixed certain aspects now using the new version of Tweak HD
For our benefit.. could you please tell us...
1) your version of Tweak HD
2) WHat did you do to improve battery life
Thanks
Progress
So I installed Homescreen++ to be able to monitor my battery utilization... and im averagin 150mA to 350mA with it being closer to 300mA most of the time... no wonder I am getting 10-12 hours of battery life.. and this is with the device not doing anything.. except cehcking mail accounts.. NOTHING else...
I really need help with this.. every night at around 9:00pm.. i am without battery and its driving me nuts...
short of a hard reset... what can I do to monitor what programs or processes are taking up my battery?
I really feel your pain. I must recharge during the day everyday. I've ordered a second battery, but it hasn't arrived yet. I've done all I can do with HD Tweak and Schap's Advanced Config, even turned the screen brightness down further to no avail. I don't want to hard-reset, but I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Before I do, If any of you experiencing good battery life has a few moments and is willing to install HomeScreen ++, please post your numbers to compare to ours (mine are in a previous post). The download link is:

It can easily be uninstalled through "Remove Programs" later.

Battery life much better than my Kaisers...

Apparently Batti uses a lot of battery (ironically).
I've just replaced it with Ariel battery and will let you know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278
I'm not running Batti.
I have been through an Apache, a Blue Angel, a Hermes and most recently a Kaiser before springing for this amazing Blackstone. All my previous devices made it through at least a full day before requiring a recharge.
My ROM is 1.14.405.3 and Radio is 1.09.25.14
I'm thinking of springing for the HD, I currently have a Hermes. Battery life is a major concern of mine, and on my Hermes I had to purchase a larger battery with the extended back plate.
Does the HD turn off the screen when not in use or is it on all the time? Also how does it do with WiFi on?

thanks
Tonight's the night
Gonna hard reset the little fella
What about WCDMA/GSM/Auto? Which one is better for batteryusage?

Give me a hint, plz!

So, here's my problem. I owend (or still own) the following phones:
... (a lot of phones in the past)
HTC Neo
Iphone 3G
HTC G1
Palm Pre
So, actually the Pre does it for me! I sell the Iphone right now on Eba*. But here's my problem -> Batterylife!
I hate the batterylife of the Palm / IPhone and the others. The mainproblem is, I love the internetfunctionality, it's great to go online where ever I like, got my mails all 15 / 30 minutes up to date and so on.... But e.g. the Pre is empty at the next morning! I got a tool installed which switchs the phone into the flight mode over night, but the battery is on 10% or empty at the next morning!!! The Iphone does it better, but at the mid of the second day it's empty as well.
OK, what should I do? Should I buy the HTC HD2? HTC says it could play 8hours of videoplayback!!! If this is true, the standby time should be good enough, too! I read the thread about the people which are telling about the low batterytime, is this normal or just in a few cases? I don't like to switch of my wireless/3G at night, or if I'm not using it, where's the sense!? I like to use it right out of the box, and not going to switch it on or off befor!?
What did you think? Should I buy a HTC HD2 and sell the Pre? It doesn't matter which OS comes with it, because I love WM as well as WebOS or the Iphones one, every of them got a good and a bad taste.
P.s.: Does the Windows Marketplace a good job, are there many apps in? Oh, and could you still install over the mobility center manually?
Cheers
Schakal
lol they are all the same. Just charge them every night while you sleep. Problem solved.
No sorry, not solved
Ok, is it possible to use the HD2 a whole day, I mean 16h, with normal use? Like e.g. I would use it one hour for internet, half an hour for calling and maybe one hour for work with mails?
My Pre says good night at nine o'clock!!! That's toooo less for me! I was at a customer and I got an important call, but the Pre tought it would be OK if I would call back, when I'm at home (battery empty).
So, is it possible?
I charge mine bedside overnight and yes, it lasts a whole day (a whole day typically being; up at 5am & bed by 10.30pm + between 1 and 1 1/2 hours music playing in the gym + lots of fiddling with it [it's a new gadget] + about 15 mins of call time + about 10 mins txt time + about 15 mins surfing (I'm at a PC all day with a phone, otherwise it would be more) AND I have the screen power set to bright.
Even with all that I still have 2 bars on the battery when is gets plugged in at night.

This implies you are not charging overnight. You are saying the battery is empty by the second day. It will be. It needs charging every night, all night.
