How do I upgrade the ROM version - currently 1.10.00 WWE - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I gather that my rom is out of date - How do I upgrade to the latest version.
i am in the UK if that maters .
I keep having to do soft resets about 2 or 3 times a day - will the upgrade stop the thing freezing ?

Also I have a blank space at the side of ExtROM version - is that BAD ?

If it is just the XDA II you have then go to http://www.my-xda.com/xda2_soft.html and download the latest official update for your device. Connect the XDA II to your computer and run the .exe file you will have downloaded. The XDA II website has more thorough instructions on what you need to do though.

I have an XDA 11i - does the same advice apply ?

Ahh ok, well the same advice will apply, but im fairly sure that O2 have not yet gotten around to releasing an official ROM upgrade for this device yet. I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be one coming soon but no-one is quite sure when it will be yet.

thanks

Newbie Starting from zero! Steps?

Hi All,
I have been reading the Forum for about 2 months before having my 32MB RAM o2 XDA (U.K.) in hands.
As I am no developer but have some experience with WinCE since its first Habdheld appearance, most posts are Greek to me!
I intend to use my XDA with Vodafone-Greece, but first have to SIM unlock it!
ROM: 3.12.07 ENG
ROM date: 08/13/02
Radio: 4.06
Protocol: 32S54
PW10A1
Questions:
1) How to simply unlock it (USB cradle & OS Win XP Pro)?
2) First upgrade and then unlock or vice-versa?
3) Upgrade to previous to last (v3.17 + 4.21) o2 versions? Have read reports of problems with these. Any link to the older ones?
4) Mind you, I have no idea how to resolve any possible problems with Jeff's SE ROM 1.1 which is on my HDD!!!
5) Local settings to be applied afterwards, manually (?)
Deep Waters ahead ?
THX for any help,
Gear
No really deep waters, I guess.
Just run Jeff's SER exe, it should go in fine, and that makes the PDA part much nicer, and it's pretty risk-free. It will notice, upon cold-boot, that you need unlocking, and offer to do it for you.
We always advise against upgrading the phone part unless you're having some problem, since there seem to be risks associated with the process. Having said that, 4.06 is old, and it's likely you'll be happier with 4.21, but that's your own call. Be sure to upgrade the phone after unlocking, just in case. (there are reports of the unlock not working on 4.21, we haven't had time to look into it.)

I have the Official T-mobile Windows Mobile 2003 ROM!!!!

I have in my power right now which is supposedly the final T-mobile Windows mobile 2003 release.
From the source that I got it from:
I got my hands on a T-Mobile 2003 release for PPCPE!
This is a pretty complete build, and it also updates your radio stack.
Usual disclaimers apply.

I tried doing it but it tells me that my device is not compatible with the program. I'm guessing is because I'm running the 2003 version that is been circling around the web. Also, I have the AT&T Radio Stack update. I'll try to Restore the original ROM, and then upgrade tomorrow.
One weird thing though, the readme file looks like like the last upgrade that they did (old). It menctions that updates the Media Player to 8.5, whereas the WM2K3 has the WMP 9.0, hmmmm...weird.
Whoever wants to try it, and gives me his FTP server in the next 20 min gets it! is late and I'm going to sleep, if not I'll send it to you guys tomorrow
Update!!!, I couldn't wait and I did the upgrade!!!
once you downgrade things get easier.
Bootimage that says T-mobile "Test Only Not for Sale"
Rom Version 4.00.10 ENG
ROM date: 06/20/03
Radio Version: 6.24.00
Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100)
I will keep updated!! As I play with it
UPDATE:. One of the programs included is ClearVue PDF and ClearView Presentation. Also AOL AIM!
Also, in the Network settings, there is an "auto pick" and the regular GPRS and VPN GPRS
GPRS is ZIPPPPY!!!
The OS seems very stable and fast, of course, I don't have anything installed. I gotta get some sleep, so, I'll catch up tomorrow, (or later for that matter)
What is the difference from the version 4.00.05 that is available here on the forum? Is it better or more stable (less bugs)?
You think I can flash the just the ROM of T-Mobile version over my xda Asian version without flashing the radio stack?
Does it have the Media Player 9 or still 8.5? And if it's the official release, why does it say "Test only not for sale" on the boot up screen?
Thanks in advance.
Yorch, can you temporary put it in your website??
by the way, its down for quite awhile already right?? what happened??
Thanks to Yorch:
ftp://ftp.alain-net.net
Usr: xda
Pwd: xda
There are 2 ROMs there:
- official-tmo2003.rar (the exe with Radio update)
- 4.00.10 NK.nbf.zip (only the ROM (nk.nbf) without the Radio part)
EDIT:
I haven't tested TMO2003 myself, so be carefull, especially on a non-Tmobile phone because ther is a RADIO update included inside. Maybe we can split the package, but I have to check that later.
(Thanks ejdmoo)
Remember people, this next release from Tmobile includes a radio update. This is the realm where "just reflash with a different ROM" doesn't work.

Are you saying you can't just use the extracted NK.nbf file on its own to do a SD flash?
You can do that, but don't run the EXE if you do not want to update your radio stack.
Radio 6.24.00... so it's 900/1900, right?
Gave it a quick try but going back to 4.00.05.
Problems with phone part, no GPRS signal. and obvious T-Mobile branding.
Was interested in AIM but was not built into ROM or at least I couldn't see it

I don't see why not, I will try to extract the ROM image later, when I get home. We might be able to cook it too in the kitchen

Yeah, is Windows Mobile 2003, so It does have WMP9, the readme file I guess Is just the old one, this file is not the Final and Official Release, is the T-mobile release of it, I'm guessing is the Pre-release version and used for testing, and you should considered as such. (if you want to only run whatever is official then don't run it, But If you want to be in the bleeding edge then go ahead and do it). I'm assuming once they are ready for prime time, they will rewrite the Readme file, and take out the bootimage "Test only".

Unfortunately, I'm using my current ISP (Earthlink), which only gives you 10MB of space and limited bandwidth, If someone would be willing to donate Webspace (around 10MB) I would certainly appreciate it (and the community too). I would love to host all the ROMS for people to have a central location and easy access to them, and have a kitchen where people can customize their own ROM, but unfortunately, I don't have the space

Yeah, is not ovbious, is in the \Windows directory, just create a shortcut to Programs, and that's it. (is pretty much the same as PAC-MAN was hidden in the 1st ROM release [OZONE].
I've alreay extracted the nk.nbf and put it on my FTP.
My FTP is limitted to 5 connections and 45 Kbyte/s. So it is a little slow because when there are 5 users connected you should get around 9KBps. But I guess you guys (and girls ) don't mind since my FTP has continually 5 connections since I put it on my FTP.
Another news from the source of this file:
I got this from a source deep in Tmobile land. I was told this is VERY close the the final release they'll make in August. It is WM2003 that has been customized for tmobile.

How do you install a RAR file?
I have searched for this info on google and on xda and I cannot find.
Thank you in advance.
You can open it with Winrar or Powerarchiver and a lot of other compression programs.
Good luck

It is posted at http://www.romanweb.com/yorch/official-tmo2003.rar as well. If someone can get me a copy of the .nbf file or if I can get it from the listed ftp then I will post it as well.

Question...?
I have a question, if I load up the test rom on my T-Mo, will I be able to load the final release without a hitch or should i back up my orignal rom before??
Its always a good idea to backup your ROM and I strongly suggest doing so!
one question, I got an XDA with me, I know I will **** up my radio by loading in the PPC 2003 final edition..is there anyway which i can run the update without upgrading the radio stack??
thanks

Always on line for xda 1??

Any body knows for xda 1, you can keep checking new mail arrival through GPRS?
I heard people using xda 2 can do that. But is there any chance xda 1 can do the same thing?
Actually, when u do the setting for POP account, it ask u to set how many minutes to check for new messages. But it never work because the GPRS will close automatically.
Thanks very much. :?
Sure it can be done!
Take a look at:
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html
BTW the above is one of many!
also where are you located?
HTH
I am using the most updated PPC2002 version already. (3.20.06 ROM and 4.21 Radio)
Do u mean I have to upgrade to PPC2003?
I doubt that because they are not very stable for me to use in Hong Kong so far from other guy's comments in this website.
Thanks very much.

Since you're already running the latest upgrade its suppose to work but since it doesn't I would have to say that your always-on settings are at fault. So go to Start, Settings, Connections and make sure that its set to not disconnect.
HTH
Are you sure that it is also for xda1 ?
I can't locate that "not disconnect" setting.
Please clarify.
Thanks so much.

It should say some thing like this:
GPRS connection to remain active once the device enters power save mode.
At least it does on the PPC 2002 latest AT&T ROM and the XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2. (which is bases on the O2 3.17.03 ROM).
HTH
That's really strange for my O2 xda!
I only found a setting called GPRS Suspend Mode setting.
It said,
When you are in power-saving mode, do you want to:
- Keep GPRS connection
- End GPRS connection
I clicked on the first one.
Then I close it, and connect to GPRS.
Just for a while, the connection ends by itself.
Any thought?
Thanks a lot again.
Yeap thats the correct setting and the same one I'm speaking of!
I read a lot of bad reports about the 4.21 radio stack so it might be at fault.
Maybe you should think about upgrading to the Qtec radio stack, heard nothing but good reports on that one.
The Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
BTW read the WARNING.
BTW do you have a URL for that newer o2 ROM, I'd like to install it and see if it does the same for me/
HTH
Here it is.
http://www.myxda.com/web/template/SoftwareUpgradeIntroduction.vm
BTW, I am a bit nervous to install the radio file cause I have bad experience that almost kill my phone.
Is it really okay just to install the radio file?

Unable to download, it kept asking for a IMEI.
You wouldn't happen to have the direct download link would you?
Oh! I didn't realize that...sorry.
I am still a bit nervous for upgrading (or is it actually downgrading) to the i-mat ROM.
If it is downgrading, I will definitely not try that...
Hi Qman,
I just notice that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM.
Also they have the 4.00.21 ROM (pre-release T-Mobile version). Is it for the US market only?
Chris
hi; Are you sure that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM??? Can't find it. I have downgraded my XDA yesterday from the kitchen wm2003 because of bugs to kitchen 2002 but it says 3.17.03 and not the one you mention???!!!
Hey,
That's not from the "kitchen". It's from the "upgrade" just under "kitchen". Check it out again and you will find it.
Anybody knows that 4.00.21 is good for o2 xda?
Chris
hmmm, currently I am using it
so far so good but there is one major BUT for me - most possibly that version makes wipe out my 256MB SD card every up to 48 hours
for me it is a major .... item
regards,
monika
That's terrible. What about the GPRS and phone reception?
To be honest, I won't use it if it will wipe off the sd contents every 2 days.
Have you tried to burn again?
so far GPRS is not working ....
but that is due local GSM provider that has some complicates setup as to make GPRS to work, phone recption is ok ... I am living in area where virtually all GSM phones had reception problems (i.e. majority of nokia phones), although in a city center it is perfect ....
just for you to know ... I have received a link from one of the group members for the most recent update - look there for details :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4556&highlight=4+01+00
regards, monika
Thanks very much for your reply.
But I think that Upgrade exe file is for US only cause that include the radio upgrade as well.
So, are you able to downgrade your 4.00.21 easily?
I am not sure whether its worth to downgrade your device to 3.20.06 to see whether its a real problem with SD card. And to upgrade it to 4.00.21 again to verify it. It may happen only at some occasion as you know electronic device can never guarrentee functioning 100%.
Hope you can fix your device.
Cheers

Getting my XDA updated!

Hey, first post, n first i wanna say thanks! The unlock app worked a treat, i now have 3 XDA v1's to sell, and one for my self, all unlocked!
So, onto my problem...
I have a plain (unlocked) XDA which ive been using religiously, and i want to update it to ppc2003. So i have 2 questions.
1. o2 have the update software on their website. Is it an upgrade to 2003?
2. If the above is a big NO. Where can i purchase the upgrade?
One little niggle tho, if i update it to 2003, will i lose the 'unlocked' status on the phone? Or is it unlocked for good?
Reference stuff so you guys dnt have to ask:
ROM VER: 3.17.03
RADIO VER: 4.21.00
Many thanks guys!

Answer
1: I personally don't know this, someone else can answer im sure.
2: You can get the update here (cook your own ROM) http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
Finally I don't think it will be relocked after being unlocked, but again the experts can answer better than I. Good Luck.
Okay, so the second link gives me all these options to make roms. Thing is, i have no idea what to pick for version etc once ive picked pocketpc2003.
Anybody able to shed some light?
DB
EDIT: Bit the bullet, updating now using what i THINK is the right rom. Will let you know.
EDIT: Seemed to work ok. For some reason tho, on every reboot, i get some error bout an app not being compatible with ppc2003. So im rebuilding a virgin ROM and will go from there.
EDIT: Same problem, this rom has nadda but a new bootscreen, today screen, and the 'reg-hacks'. I'm all out of ideas.
'This program only works with Windows Mobile 2003 (4.20.1081)
Its one of the reg hacks that is the problem, cant remember which one though.
Disable
Code:
Fix 'multiple resets make device slow' bug (not A.30.0x or 4.01.1x)
This should cause the problem. Or delete manually the file wm03hotfix from the startup of your device....

Excellent.
Now i know what the problem is, i'll back everything up, and make me a new ROM tonight.
Cheers again guys,

Advice On Upgrading My XDA 11i Please.

Yes as you can guess yet another newbie to all this stuff..... I a hoping that there is a nice XDA knowledgable person out there in Cyber land who can advise me on if its safe to upgarde my XDA IIi please.
My pda has this written in the device information:-
ROM version: 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date: 01-27-05
Radio Version: 1.04.00
Protocol Version:1337.42
ExtROM Version: 1.11.162 WWE
I have downloaded from the XDA ftp ste this Program:-
Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed
A Friend has told me that they used this program and there unit worked a lot better than before, but also warned me to be very careful as you could very easily kill your xda. So I suppose my question is, can I use it to upgrade and if there are any dangers for me to aware of before having a go.
Sorry for my total lack of any knowledge about this but I really hope that there is someone who could advise me.
Many thanks

Hi there
There is always a chance that things could go wrong - a power cut for instance.
However, I'm an IT Manager, and this was new to me last year too - I just read about peoples experiences and read and re-read the instructions....
The hardest thing was getting the XDA2i to go into programming mode - but that was because I didn't think it had the first time I did it.
Once that occurred it was fairly simple. Your heart is in your mouth when you reset it after it has finished being upgraded but it is well worth you doing it...

1. It's safe to up ROM to your XDA IIi. I have one and did upgrading many times.
2. Due to your device information, it is quite same as "Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed". Just as Pug and someone have informed: "O2 camera patch has no good quality", so Pug Remove this patch from Original Rom.
3. Just plug your XDA IIi into cradle, run MAUpgrade_noID.exe, follow the instructions and watch movie. After it finish, try to taste it yourself. It is easy as run setup.exe in your computer. And remember, if your upgrade fails, put your XDA IIi into bootloader mode (press Power, Action and Soft-Reset at same time), and do thing follow '3. Just plug ...' .
Have fun.
it did not fail on me, it just hung for a while, then i had to close it using task manager, then run it again, you MUST NOT TOUCH OR UNPLUG YOUR PHONE, before you run it again, it will say there is nothing on the phone then update the bios, i left it for 30mins before i worked that out, i was expecting a "cannot upgrade, flash failed" promte but it just hangs.
