I 'm not sure there is a solution for this since by using the GPRS your XDA itself will have an IP address. So, it can't be used as a modem ( I might be wrong tho :shock: ).
I think it's better to get a PC card adaptor with a SIM slot for GPRS. The same for WiFi cards.

No easy solution exists (yet...). You need to hook the device up using a serial cable, and then run a ROM-included tool called 'wmodem.exe'. (Tool is only present on some 3.x ROMs, and cannot be used on ROM it isn't included with), or use a really crappy wmethod we came up with a long time ago, using the bootloader.
Both methods require the serial cable, and when you ask our opinion, both methods suck, although the former method sucks less than the latter.
And to add both methodes are slowwwwwww, i mean the connection speed is slow.

I have the wmodem since I use 3.18 ROM, but it didn't work except for GSM data connection (not GPRS link). I believe this is because when you use GPRS the XDA becomes the destination IP address not a modem anymore ... or I didn't use the right setup ???

it gives a pop-up "Waiting ..." with OK button
Since the PocketPC hase it's owne IP adresse on my personnel network (ping from laptop to pocketpc) it must be possbile to develope a pocketpc proxy gateway.
we could then (using activeSync for LAN connection) connect to the internet via the pocketpc proxy.
Has any one developped or heard about such a software??? :idea:

It's not that easy, we looked into it.
Problem is that as soon as the XDA sits in the cradle, the GPRS internet loses its interface, which is then taken by the PPP link to ActiveSYnc running on the desktop. We have not managed to keep up the GPRS and the ActiveSync at the same time.
We're presently convinced the easy answer lies in a tool that presents a fake serial port on the desktop which, via USB and ActiveSync, connects to something like wmodem on the XDA. Let's wait for wmodem or something like it to appear on WM2003, and then we'll see if we can cook up something.
I've used Wmodem, I've used the bootloader method. Wmodem wasn't bad, just not always reliable, and it doesn't exist for PPC 2003 devices. But I finally came up with a great, reliable, and much faster solution.
USE ANOTHER PHONE! :wink: I just swap the SIM and use a T300 via IR when I need to get a connection on my laptop. That way I get GPRS speed (Wmodem seemed stuck at 9600) also.

I solved that problem when checked on the "Allow network and remote access service server connection with this desktop computer", so when you plugging your MDA to the craddle GPRS shuts down, but if you click to reconnect it turns on and working properly while my device is in its craddle. I thought that if my desktop pc using a standart connection to the internet gives internet access to my PPC via active sync (gprs is off) then there must be a way to use gprs connection back from PPC to the desktop PC. :shock:
I've also tried to have a GRPS connection while my ActiveSync connection is on and it works well.
On my pocket PC get two IP adresses, cellular Line IP address (Internet) an Serial on USB IP address (LAN).
Si I guess the only way to get full GPRS via a laptop would be to directly integrate a proxy gateway on the Pocket PC, no need to play or to wait for the wmodem.exe to be integrated for PPC 2003 since we have LAN and Internet connection at the same time on the PPC
Next steep would be to find or program a proxy gateway for PPC.

You're probably confused... You have to establish an activesync connection by bluetooth and then you'll have access to the web... Just like using the cable but slower...
and how do u setup the active bluetooth connection?
You just have to activate the 'modem link' on the PPC. In Vista at least, all I do is create a new modem connection using the bluetooth modem on the PPC and dial *99#. Pretty simple....
In some ROMs there is an Internet Sharing Option....just activate it, select Bluetooth PAN & connect to the device from PC
could some1 plz outline the steps for setting up the connection, coz all i hear is 'murmuring' ..plz,am still new to all this ppc stuff

I spent about 2 days on my phone wondering and trying to get internet connection on my Prophet...So I did it!It's like this:
When you connect your Prophet via USB it will show you new connection....
Go to Start/Control Panel/Network Connections and than click on left side "Set up a home or a small office Network"...So when you finish the wizard,restart your computer (do not disconnect Prophet) and it will work...It was the only way for me to get Internet Connection...I hope I helped someone just like others helped me...Greetings!

I think It's not worth it...In Slovenia,where I live,GPRS is at least 10times more expencive than tipycal cable NET...Some of my friends tryed to connect laptop to NET by smartphone,but the speed in really low and also phone bill was shocking...So get standard internet...Greetings!

unless you set it to block it when you are connected with activesync you are connected to what ever network connection the pc have

thanks for the answer. One thing i don't know is how i can set the phones internet explorer to use the bt connection and not the gprs.
i already have a activesync connection to the pc via bt, internet connection is shared.
in activesync, connection setting: this computer is connected to: maike it connected to the internet. that usually does the trick.
if you use a WM5 defice it's probably the only thing you can do to go online via BT, if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one.

I've 2 smartphones (Breeze & Tornado). I want connect the breeze phone to the Tornado smartphone to share the GPRS internetconnection (2 phones with one internetconnection).
On the Tornado phone I enable Internetsharing -> Bluetooth PAN and my GPRS network connection and i CONNECT.
On the Breeze phone i want to make the connection to the tornado phone with the bluetooth manager. With this bluetooth manager i can see the phone and i can also connect, but the Tornado PHONE won't share the GPRS connection (internet sharing says always DEVICE SETUP FINISHED. On the PC connect bluetooth PAN).
When i try to make a connection from my laptop to the Tornado phone this works but not with 2 phones.
Is there anybody who have the correct solution?
I've tried most of the solutions/methods on this forum/net, but it just doesn't work!
I'm able to pair the device, start the PAN service and 'Intetnet Sharing' gets connected as well, PC gets an IP address, but I get no response when I ping or open a webpage.
On the phone end, I've tried with WM5, WM6, WM6.1 and even with WMWi iRouter. On the PC end, tried with 3 different XP/2003/Vista machines. I'm using BlueSoleil 6.2, but had no success with older or later versions either.
Internet Sharing over USB worked fine till my USB connector broke so BlueTooth/WiFi is my only option.
Can soneone help me out please?

Thanks for the reply. I tried Bluetooth DUN but it's too slow (115kbps) and keeps getting disconnected every 5 mins...
If Bluetooth PAN is for sharing PC net only, why then does it show up under 'Internet Sharing', and also shows the Cellular net option, as if it can connect the both, like it does for USB? If PAN isn't meant for sharing cell net, it shouldn't show the option, right?
I mean, it's not *impossible* right? We have a TCP/IP network established with all IPs properly assigned; only one device has net access; how hard or improbable can it be to share the net? There has to be a way! :|
Infact, even the inbuilt Help on Internet Sharing describes that cell net can be shared w/ the PC over bluetooth using 'Internet Sharing' and says nothing about connecting as a modem and the whole *99# thing. I was of the opinion that 'Internet Sharing' made that method obsolete...

- Open internet sharing, select Bluetooth PAN, connect. IS should tell you "waiting for bluetooth connection".
- On the PC, connect to the PAN service on the phone. This must work, I've used it countless times.
If traffic doesn't go through, you probably have a proxy set on your device (happens with some network operators) that you need to disable for it to work.
^ That's exactly how I've been trying .. maybe it's because of BlueSoleil?
Which bluetooth stack are you using? I've been searching the local stores for a non-bluesoleil adapter but no luck so far
I'm using the Widcomm stack that came with my BT keyboard/mouse set. I think you can download it for free anyway...

I can connect but no internet traffic on my laptop .I am using vodafone live gprs on xda orbit .Thanks
