using as a tv remote

Is the infrared strong enough for using it as a tv-remote ?
Did any one tried it ?
I'm still waiting for my Hermes to arrive.
Range is only about a meter
I was hopefull of using my Hermes as a swanky all in one remote, but unfortunately after a bit of testing, the pathetic range on the IR rules it out Shame, 'cos the Philips Pronto and other such devices cost a fortune.
you could keep an eye out for a HP IPaq 2210 as it has consumer IR and comes with nevo on board for universal remote control functions. (I really need a full LCD matrix for mine lol, which is what prompted me to get my hermes)
Try NoviiRemote Deluxe 4.1 with range about 3-4 metres. Work Fine
That's the program I used and the TyTN only got a meter. My 8125 got 4 meters with this same application.
There may be a hardware mod in my TyTN's future here. I really miss Novii remote....
hy, everyone, i've heard, that you can put out the plastic glass which protects the ir-led. this shouldincreasethe range up to 15meters. has anyone tried this, does it work?
i hope it can help... + 20% but absolutely not 15 meters! The reason is that more longer is the ir ray, more energy you have to spend!

Streak 5 A/V Dock

Dell Streak A/V dock...... Anyone have good/bad experiences? I have the opportunity to get one (in original Dell box), for $25.... I'm thinking that's a good deal for an original Dell dock (assuming it gives added functionality without any hassles).... Any thoughts? Thanks all
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
As a dock it's better then the slacker one in pretty much every way.
The HDMI out part is virtually useless though.
I managed to buy one for $20, i regret not buying more, for $25 it's definitely worth the money to buy at least one
Thanks Manll..... Does the HDMI out-port not work, or does it only work for the native video player (and not work when using, say "Rock Player", for example) ?
Thanks again for your input
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I dont believe hdmi video works at all anymore on 2.2 as the app that did video out wasnt ported when it went from 1.6 -> 2.2, or if it was i still dont know where it is, it's nowhere obvious.
the music app can do music (and only music with a black screen), but it hides all the music controls so you cant actually controll it with hdmi out, if you want to switch songs or something you have to turn hdmi off, switch the song, and turn hdmi out back on.
I dont believe that hdmi out from normal apps will work on the streak, but i havnt actually tried
Humm...... That sounds like Dell.... create an accessory for an all-but-unsupported device (our Streaks), then dont support the accessory... Typical! Now how will I watch porn on hotel's LCD while travelling? LOL
I think if I can get the price down to like $20 I may get it anyway to use as a charger / stand...
Thanks again
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
As a charger/stand it's great, much better then the slacker one,
you could always get live actors
Yeah, makes a lovely desk stand but I've never been able to make use of the HDMI output, not even back on 1.6
It is very well built & quality materials, just very expensive for a charger!
Hey Guys....
Thanks for the input. I got the price down to $20 so I bought it..... Even though I don't have a spare HDMI cable to test video output (it's buried inside the wall the TV is mounted on), I'm still happy with it because it's well made and has extra cables and another Dell Streak usb charger
Thanks again for your input.....

Just a few questions.

Hey I have a few questions which I would appreciate if answered.
1. Can the a500 output to a monitor via dvi? Is there something that would need to be enabled or not. I know it can output via HDMI.
2. Has anyone actually bricked their device to a state in which it cant be recovered, I know sc2k can usually recover the device with the UID, but has anyone got their device completely bricked to the extent in which the only option was warranty replacement.
3. Is anyone developing a way in which to or event bricking or an unbricking tool.
Thank you.

Not natively, no. If you can find a device that converts HDMI to DVI signal then you could use that, but I don't know if such a device even exists.

You can get a male HDMI to female DVI adapter for under $2 from Amazon.

Which you would then use with your mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter.

This has been asked several times before.you need a converter box. They are two different types of technology.
Thee also has been a few people that I heard sent there Tablets to acer to get unbricked. Not sure if they talked to seek or not thou.

Hi, Jeff.
I actually have tried what you've suggested a while back. While it does allow you to connect, it does not power up the dvi port on the monitor/tv. I think something like what erica_renee or WereCatf are mentioning is needed.
Unfortunately I cannot find this magical device anywhere (Well,,, I only searched a 'little'. No real dedication, sorrrry.). I have an older monitor (dvi) that I would love to run the tab on...
I believe (since you've hooked it up, tried it and it didn't work) that your computer monitor does not support 1080p output from the Acer. I'm not sure, it could even be 720p, but either way it appears your monitor doesn't support that or the frame rate from the Acer.
For some reason hdmi to dvi doesn't work I tried every possible combination on many monitors with various resolution strange tho.

Hmm well hope in the future there may be a way, for the bricking situation I know it'll be pretty much safe with cwm but there may be occurances where it fails.

Question about MHL 2.0 ...

I just bought MHL2.0 adapter for my galaxy s4
but it didn't works with my Samsung SyncMaster B2230 LCD :crying:
I tried with different HDMI cables to connect MHL2.0 and LCD but it keep showing crash screen
After that I tried on my Panasonic Viera LCD TV (bought in 2008 or 2009) and it works fine !
It just show 720p screen because my TV only can support up to 720p
So can anyone help me to solve this issue ?
or Monitor should support MHL then only can works ? like Samsung S23B550V ?
P.S. Sorry for my bad English
Can anybody help me ?
Dont know about your problem but mine just arrived and im quite hacked off. I thought the whole reason for the mhl 2.0 was it didnt require external power to work but it does. Without external power mine does nothing !

Mine works with and without a charger plugged in, using the official Samsung S4 MHL cable.
Well that's wierd then. Mine is an official one too. Although I am using it through my appradio which might not be chucking out enough power. Ill try it through my tv and see if that works without power

I try to connect with or without external power also can't work on my LCD monitor
but my TV can connect without external power ..
Any idea of why it can't work ?

HDMI output adapter

What type of cable would I need to output to TV? Any recommendations?
I know the Slimport will work, but that's way too expensive.
Thanks.
The IC in the micro-usb port only supports SlimPort.
This one is 30 bucks:

I saw slimports on ebay going for under $30. With free shipping.

slimport not working for me
Unfortunately I am having issues. It worked with a very old hdtv. For my newer samsung and philips 1080p tvs, it would just show a black screen. On one of the tvs, it advises that the resolution is coming through but nothing appears on the screen. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
Will this work on the N7?

Does anyone know if the Slimport output is rendered natively at 1920x1080 or is it a vertically compressed scale of the tablet's 1920x1200?
If only mirror mode is supported I gotta guess that it's a scale and not a native 1080p.
Or is there a "second display" option that allows the TV to display it's own independent Android workspace, sort of like "extended desktop" for Windows?

Hi the new Nexus 7 isn't in the UK at the moment, but I'm curious to know about the quality of movie play back via the slim port.
Are action movies OK? No issues with stuttering or lip sync?
Thx
Slimport does not work Pansonic but does with Samsing TV
Hi
I have a new 2013 Nexus 7 tablet which I can connect to HDMI port on TV via a Slimport adaptor which the Nexus 7 supports. Display works fine when I connect to Samsung LCD 40eh5300 tv but not when I connect to my 55ST60. The display looks fine except that it blinks every 1o seconds or so -picture disappears then comes back on again. Appreciate if anybody has an idea why this may be happening and how I may fix it. Thanks Kurbie
