We got one! O2 sent us one of their demo models to test with. We figured they would have asked others if they were only interested in a superficial look, so we voided the warranty almost immediately. Here's our preliminary findings:

ooooo now that I do like the sounds of 8)
And here was me thinking O2 had no sense whatsoever... maybe I like this company after all
wtg O2 !!!
128mb eh? I think I know what I want from Santa LOL
wtg also to the developers... you have an official unofficial handset from O2 and officially they must have unofficially been reading your works
How unofficially official
EDIT: I just had a thought... sorry to be the first to ***** but the SD slot at the top must make it more obvious? People might have the urge to fire it out the top (XDA has some firing range if done properly) or even worse....increase the chance of it getting pinched
nice pics...
Thank you...
Could you give some details on the connector?
Can I use my XDA cables and carkit?
As always: impressive stuff
About connections and accessories:
1- does it fit in the leathercase of the XDA I
2- does it fit in the craddle of the XDA I
3- does it fit with the charger of the XDA I
4- does it fit with the car charger of XDA I
5- is it the same stylus ? does the stylus of XDA I fit in the socket of XDA II ?
In other words, if we have extra accessories of the present XDA, can I use them with the new XDA II ?

Does that mean, that this part of the ROM is fully user-accessible (reading&writing)?
In that case it would be very easy to change an XDA II to an MDA II (software-wise) by simply copying the files in that arey from on to another?
Is that true?

You can use any cable you have, but not the old cradle: the shape of the device is slightly different. I guess whether or not you can use your carkit depends on the form-factor.
The cradle that comes with it can charge a second battery (they are removeable now), and has a 2A power supply.

Yeah, these SD-card eject springs can be weapons-grade. But still the top is the only right place to have your wavelan or gps SDIO card stick out.

Correct.
Something tells me that any XDA II follow-up to the kitchen will no longer mess with the tiny bit of space in the 32MB main ROM, but will focus on this extended ROM disk instead. The life of a tweaker will be nicer and easier on the XDA II.

Yes. You can just barely still use the volume slider in the down direction. the camera button is not useable, but then the camera is covered by the back of the case anyway.

The unit we got appears to be unlocked. It may well be that they finally discovered that SIMlocking is immoral.
If they do start selling SIMlocked units, we'll see what happens. We've thought of a few ways one could make it harder to unlock, and at least in theory they could make it hard enough to deter people like us.

So we just have to wait for many little tweaks by the o2-developers. Then we -the users- simply have to install those to the ROM disk and voila! Thanks to HTC for that great opportunity!
So: Hurry up and build some tweaks
Not such a intresting question but is the LCD the same size as the XDA as i have loads of screen protectors to fit the XDA, I know its brighter and better , but is it the same size
Thanks
one question think most of us would like to ask
can the XDA 2 use Jeff's Kitchen or Kalex's Kitchen?? would be great if its possible...love the IIWPO on it

It is 1 millimeter wider and half a millimeter higher. (And this while the entire device is narrower because the screen edges are smaller. Vierwable area is the same.

Nothing stops you from putting this ROM in the kitchen. Structure is the same, and conventional mkrom-family tools work. Hoever, the whole rationale behind the kitchen becomes thinner when you have 32 MB flash-disk and 128 MB RAM to play with.
Of course never seen before

A question
I have a homemade carkit, with a connector with some functions like audio, microfoon, gps input/output and power.
is the connector pin layout still the same?
thank!
Why arent these features implemented? This device is no reason for me to change, cause i´m an owner of a magician.
Only the keypad and wlan aren´t enough arguments to change.
Does anybody know an comparable device with 3G & video in this formfactor at the moment?

This is not in the same formfactor he asked for...
The CDMA version of the Wizard (the Apache) has 3G (EVDO). It doesn't have video conferencing though.
Didnt think this was a 3g phone any way... and tbh what exactly does 3g give us... high speed data... ok cool.... but WIFI will be quicker... oh and vid confrencing... wow.... when everybody has it on landlines - may be... until then I strugle to find a use for picture messaging let a lone video..
Even my 2G phone ( Motorola 720i ) does me for work... and I work from home.
Also has any one thought that there may be 'business reasons' not to have a camera... I know of a few - namly security in some situations.
Terran
( Sorry for the rant .... just sort of came out... my point was does it matter that you cant vid conf... if thats what you want get a Universal... this I think is aimed at the middle market the same as the Wizard and thats never IMHO been marketed as a top of the range phone - mearly one that does a lot ).
The upcoming HTC Hermes model will have a front-facing video camera and a rear-facing megapixel camera, plus 3G (non-USA-friendly UMTS again like the JASJAR, I'm assuming).
So, the JASJAR had the videoconferencing you wanted, but the size you wanted in the Wizard, hold out for the Hermes coming out the first half of 2006.
Hello,
I purchased a exec today and it is due tomorrow before 1pm, i am so excited.
However, as it is Xmas there is a chance it may not come just yet.
I am very excited, i am not sure what software i need to get for it!
welcome.. welcome... welcome to the gang..
i'm so happy you're now added to the gang..
together is always better than alone
together we can do and solve more problems..
one by one yeah..
and find more and more to solve too..
welcome!
Congratulations, though have you owned an XDA / other PDA prior to the Exec?
The original XDA phones are different enough compared to Nokia et al, but an Exec is even more of a culture shock I would imagine.
Cheers

Hi all,
I was really happy to recieve my qtek s200 about a month ago.
I don't wan't to ***** and complain a whole lot about the s200, as it generally is a nice phone and overall good improvement over my previous qtek 2020 from some years ago. A few minor querks could be the low volume and placement of the power on/off button, but nothing I can't live with.
This post, however, is just to hear if anyone else feels, as I do, disappointed due to the fact that you are not able to change the roms, as easily, as you might have come to expect from HTC devices.
Come on! I buy a WM5 device for well over £350, and then I DO EXPECT that things will run smoothly, including rom upgrades. But, no! I for one am really dissappointed. I cannot flash any roms, that are available, outside those "soon to be comming" from the place I purchased. I am still waitning.
I-mate seems, however, to support their customers well, but qtek will not even recognise my IMIE number from the reseller where I bought my phone.
So now I have the option to either wait or pay extra to get a danish rom on my qtek s200! What will they think of next?! I can only say that I am beginning to loose faith in qtek and HTC for that matter.
Please prove me wrong
Kind regards,
Gnuig

You bought a Qtek! What did you expect? Didn't you do any research before purchase? We *always* have had to jump through vendor id hoops with HTC devices to load different vendor roms, just because someone writes a tool to get around this easily doesn't mean it actually is easy! and Qtek are *well known* for their lack of support - it's a reason often given why their devices are cheaper to purchase than i-mate. Moan about Qtek, not about HTC - they didn't make you buy a Qtek product.....and in future buy an i-mate, or JAFWM to load roms more easily or search for the leaked roms when they become available from Qtek.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for you post. I do see your point... I guess a more correct title for this topic could have been:
IMHO HTC messed up the qtek s200 -> IMHO QTEK messed up the prophet!
I do however, compared to my previously good experience with the qtek 2020, feel that HTC still made the device... so as to allow QTEK to lock it "more" from the other brand names i.e. i-mate, jafwm etc.
I do agree, I should have read more on the Qtek s200 before buying and xda-dev does a good job informing and all, yet it is difficult for anyone (especially a nob) to find just the right post... telling you NOT TO BUY the QTEK S200, if you hope for good support on a prophet.
Living in Denmark, I actually believe that Dangaard Data (qtek distributer) does give good support, just not on qtek's purchased abroad. I have learned from my mistakes, and still would say, IF EVER, I was to buy another WM5 device, I will only buy from a shop in Denmark... we also get 2 years service, which don't think you get abroad as a standard.
Anyway, you could be right about qtek on the average. I just whish I had purchased mine 1) either in Denmark og 2) NOT AT ALL.
Back to my Nokia 9500 for now.
Cheers,
Gnuig
I don't get it. Why do you want to change ROMs all the time? -- And why would that be such a strong determining factor in you choosing not to use the device, especially since, as you say, it's actually an improvement over your 2020?
Personally, I'm waiting patiently for the next official S200 ROM update from Qtek. I love my S200!

Hi to Ricardo and all.
It works !!
I could now make the shift from Qtek s200 English to Danish.
This is what I have been looking for in 3 weeks, because the Qtek-service in Denmark is not working until (last time I looked at www.qtek.dk ) the 18th of april.
Thanks very much !
