TomTom5 Speed Cameras - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Having upgraded to TomTom5 I've had to revert to using it on my Orange SPV M1000, as it is UNUSABLE on my M2000 (Blue Angel) - Beware anyone thinking of upgrading to Blue Angel!
What's the best Speed Camera database to use with TomTom5 in the UK?
TIA
Peter

Hi,
Ive used POi Warner when I used TT3 but now that TT5 doesn't support it I find the best POi Installer and Auto Updater is POi Edit on the http://www.pocketgps.co.uk website. Its Free and gives you the same POi database I used when using the POi Warner program. This is free and far better than the useless TT5 built in subscription where you pay £65/year for crap.
POi Edit is free, you will have to register for free with a POi Database website and enter the username and password in the POi Edit Program. I chose www.poihandler.com free with loads of Pois to be selected inthe POi Edit Program from thier website.
Cheers
Good Luck
Lee

navigator 5 doesnt need poiwarner now, it is intergrated into the software. under settings - manage poi - warn when near poi.

Best camera database can be found here:-

Garmin GPS10 an JasJar

I was able to use my Garmin GPS 10 with my PocketPC with windows 2003 with no problem.
On my JasJar the Garmin Que (v2.70) does not detect the GPS. The JasJar is able to pair with the GPS 10 with no problem. I've got it on Outgoing COM8. Then in the GPS Control Panel I have program on COM7 and hardware on COM8.
In the Que s/w under Setup -> Interfaces I have only the following options:
- <Auto Detect>
- Serial on Cable COM1:
- Infrared Port
- Ir on COM3:
- RIL on COM6:
- COM7:
- QCT Data Interface
No matter what I select it does not detect the GPS.
I've logged the problem with Garmin, but I've not had any response yet.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but can you assist me by telling me which Registry entries you modified?
I recall on my pda2k there was a text file in the garmin que application folder that include the setup and port configuration, and if my memory serve me will just edit the file on your desktop for your port and reload it into your pocket pc overwritting the old one.
that is if my memory serves me will, sorry if it didn't.

I had a look in Garmin folder and it contains the GarminQue file, an error log, plus some other binary files. Unfortunately no configuration text file. :-(
Registry Key
Ok I found the registry key to mofify. Thanks sgordon for the pointer.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/Active/73
Make sure that the GPS is on Outgoing port COM4
Add a String Value:
Value name: Name
Value data: COM4:
Start Garmin Que and go to System Setup -> Iterfaces. There will be a blank entry in the dropdown list, choose that. The s/w should now see the Garmin.
For some strange reason the key disappears after a reboot, but the Garmin Que s/w is still able to link to the GPS.
Mapsource and Que on WM5
Ok now that I'm able to link my JasJar and the GPS10, then next problem that I have is that neither Mapsource nor nRoute detects the unit so I'm unable to transfer maps or waypoints to my JasJar.
I've tried to install the the Que on the device and on the SD Card, but no luck.
Any ideas?
Another Way
I was forced to reset my JasJar and after the reset the key described above was not available, but I found another solution.
Search in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/Active for one of the keys which has a value with Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID
In this key the name is GPD0:
Change it to COM4: (if your GPS is on COM4
Then start Que and COM4: wil now be availble under Interfaces.
I also resolved my issue with the MapSource maps by telling MapSource to write the map directly to the SDCard (My notbook has a built in SDCard Reader). Thanks for the assist.
i did the same but i cant transfer the tracks and waypoints from wm5 to mapsource. Any clue?

vehicle fleet managment application

I am looking for an adviser/consultant to develop an aplication to pass data from a pc to pda (XDA IIi or cross-platform) and vice versa via gprs (not sms). The application should also be able to integrate with TomTom for navigation and tracking on the base station. The application is intended to be used in vehicle fleet management. Ready to pay for the right service - pls email [email protected] if interested. UK-based developers preferred.

You just need to transfer data between PC and PDA via GPRS? That's easy enough isn't it?
Integrating into GPS etc should also be fine, sending packets of locator info from PDA's GPS to cross reference with POI in PC based navigator programs...

Need help testing GPS tracking application for SDA

We recently finished porting an existing GPS tracking application to the t-mobile SDA. It would be a great help to us to have a few SDA owners test this application on our test server. Basically, the SDA, paired with a bluetooth GSP receiver, sends your current position to our server periodically (every 10 to 300 seconds). Anyone who knows your account info on the server can see your current breadcrumb tracks, or tracks from previous days, on a web page. The web page uses Google Earth, Google Maps, US census maps, or Virtual Earth maps. Here is a link to some info on this application:
http://www.geocities.com/prestonsystems/mytracking
What you need:
1. SDA smartphone. It may also work with other wm2005 smartphone devices. The SDA is the HTC Typhoon and may be known by other names. Although we do have software for other devices, like PocketPC, this particular program is only for smartphones (no touch-screen) running Windows Mobile 2005.
2. Compact Framework 2.0. It can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&DisplayLang=en
3. A bluetooth GPS receiver.
4. Be willing to give us some feedback as we iron out any bugs.
I had a to jump through a few hoops to get the SDA I used for development to work (thanks to XDA Dev for the help with this). First I downloaded and installed this version of regedit:
http://www.spv-developers.com/content/regeditSTG.zip
Then apply these changes to the device’s registry:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies:
Change the DWORD named "1001" to 1
Change the DWORD named "1005" to 40
This will allow you to install your own programs. Here are the links I used to help with this:
http://wiki.spv-developers.com/index.php/HTC_Application_Unlock_Guide
http://spaces.msn.com/xpworld/Blog/cns!1pwLVDaHQF6ltiEJslNeKRkA!198.entry
It is all free. You are more than welcome to use the test server as long as you like, however, it is strictly for personal use. And if you have any interest in running the server software on your own IIS system (XP pro or Windows Server 2003, we have a free version available. No need to be terrible technical, but if you can do the registry hacks, you probably already are.
Email me at
jpreston12 at yahoo.com
I will email the .cab file to install on the SDA and help you get it running.

TomTom Home

I have an O2 XDA Exec and am currently running TomTom Navigator 6. i have recently bought a map upgrade but cannot connect to TomTom Home. Does anyone have any information on getting this to work.
i am able to connect using ActiveSync using a cable after adding the Active Sync fix .CAB file.
thanks

Im not aware the universal being able to use "Home". Its certainly excluded from the new map upgrades being offered. Any maps I want to use are simply coppied onto the Universals SD card, and selected from within tomTom
Thanks for the information. the issue i have is that i cannot DL the map from TomTom site without using the Home application. therefore i cannot just add it to the SD card. Any thoughts on how to get the DL.
