We recently finished porting an existing GPS tracking application to the t-mobile SDA. It would be a great help to us to have a few SDA owners test this application on our test server. Basically, the SDA, paired with a bluetooth GSP receiver, sends your current position to our server periodically (every 10 to 300 seconds). Anyone who knows your account info on the server can see your current breadcrumb tracks, or tracks from previous days, on a web page. The web page uses Google Earth, Google Maps, US census maps, or Virtual Earth maps. Here is a link to some info on this application:
http://www.geocities.com/prestonsystems/mytracking
What you need:
1. SDA smartphone. It may also work with other wm2005 smartphone devices. The SDA is the HTC Typhoon and may be known by other names. Although we do have software for other devices, like PocketPC, this particular program is only for smartphones (no touch-screen) running Windows Mobile 2005.
2. Compact Framework 2.0. It can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&DisplayLang=en
3. A bluetooth GPS receiver.
4. Be willing to give us some feedback as we iron out any bugs.
I had a to jump through a few hoops to get the SDA I used for development to work (thanks to XDA Dev for the help with this). First I downloaded and installed this version of regedit:
http://www.spv-developers.com/content/regeditSTG.zip
Then apply these changes to the device’s registry:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies:
Change the DWORD named "1001" to 1
Change the DWORD named "1005" to 40
This will allow you to install your own programs. Here are the links I used to help with this:
http://wiki.spv-developers.com/index.php/HTC_Application_Unlock_Guide
http://spaces.msn.com/xpworld/Blog/cns!1pwLVDaHQF6ltiEJslNeKRkA!198.entry
It is all free. You are more than welcome to use the test server as long as you like, however, it is strictly for personal use. And if you have any interest in running the server software on your own IIS system (XP pro or Windows Server 2003, we have a free version available. No need to be terrible technical, but if you can do the registry hacks, you probably already are.
Email me at
jpreston12 at yahoo.com
I will email the .cab file to install on the SDA and help you get it running.

I have owned an O2 XDA for a while and I currently use an XDA II (Himalaya). I have now found myself supporting 8 XDA IIs devices and 15 XDA IIi devices, in addition to 6 Blackberries.
We are currently running Blackberry Enterprise Server and although I do not like the software or the devices very much I can't deny their impressive features. For the XDA devices we have a contract with O2 and provide wireless Active Sync and OMA using MS Exchange over both WiFi and GPRS, however management for the devices is a bit lacking. I am forever setting up devices for users who have hard re-set their devices or let them go flat.
With the Blackberrys the BES software can manage the fleet of devices, push software to them, define policy etc.
My question is, has anyone else used software that can manage PDA devices in an organization. I have been reading about MS System Management Server and its Device Management Feature Pack. Has anyone used this, is it any good, reliable etc.
I have looked into Blackberry software for the PDA's and it seems possible, but I would rather integrate with active directory and group policy if I can.
Also what are the possibilities of cooking ROMs and deploying them, such as getting rid of that damn O2 software and installing the GPRS monitor? While I am at it can I automatically collect log files in any way, such as the GPRS software or Active Sync errors (coz I get that allot of them). It would beet setting up all this stuff by hand. I will go ahead and give this a try anyway I think but I would be interested in talking to any one that has done this before.
In return I have noticed that there is not much information here on these subjects, and I would be happy to share my experiences in this area if it is needed.
Thanks for the advice.
I think you scared everyone off. What a scary thought, having to support that many devices. Just one is enough of a pain for most on here!
Well I have managed to configure the ExtROM of the blueangle deviced, and i am happy to say that my users can now take there xda IIs devices on the road, if they go flat, or hard reset, all is ok. I installed the demo version of Microsoft SMS server on my test network at home and i love it. Using this I created cab files that configured activesync, GPRS, VPN and browser settings that now mean my users only need to set the time, and put in the username and password and the hole thing is up and running, GPRS sync and all (my boss is very happy). All I need to do now is convince them to buy the software.
I am looking in to useing WMI to collect device information, and perhaps a .NET app to gather loggs etc.
Thanks for all your help. I could not have done this without this forum, cooking up my ExtROM and geting rid of the O2 software and even puting on a company splash screen are all very cool. (oh and i upgraded my xda 2 to 2005 while i was at it )
Some thougts
a cab to configure WiFi ? (registery patch?)
will the XDA IIi be as easy?
could i install tom tom useing the ExtROM ? to many prompts ?
and my origanl plee for help stands,
thanks again guys
Running 40 XDA2, some on a BES server, all using a flaky bespoke software requiring a BT connection!
Need some help on the MKROM stuff as I'm fed up of activsync 10+ times a day
I am looking for an adviser/consultant to develop an aplication to pass data from a pc to pda (XDA IIi or cross-platform) and vice versa via gprs (not sms). The application should also be able to integrate with TomTom for navigation and tracking on the base station. The application is intended to be used in vehicle fleet management. Ready to pay for the right service - pls email [email protected] if interested. UK-based developers preferred.

You just need to transfer data between PC and PDA via GPRS? That's easy enough isn't it?
Integrating into GPS etc should also be fine, sending packets of locator info from PDA's GPS to cross reference with POI in PC based navigator programs...

Hi.
I am trying to make the Opera_Mini work using JEODE MIDP 2.0 profile.
My service provider does not allow me to make internet connections except for a predefined wap server in my current GPRS Plan. But I have a \'hacked\' IP address and Port through which I can tunnel through to get \'full\'access to the Internet.
Again, I can easily configure NetFront to make use of this proxy for browsing.
The requirement is to make the Opera_mini Midlet to connect using this proxy.
What I have found was the VM uses an APN, instead of the specific proxy&port to connect to the internet.
I tried with a few other VMs like J9. But ALL of them cant tunnel.
I found this information on the MIDP configuration parameter to set the HTTP proxy:-
com.sun.midp.io.http.proxy=<url>:<port>
I am yet to create a link which takes this parameter to the VM as an argument.
Again, I have no clue about the MIDP_HOME parameter value w.r.t JEODE or J9. If so, i could set the same values in the $(MIDP_HOME)/lib/internal.config file - instead of passing as a -D parameter.
Do you think this will work?. Anyone faced any problem with HTTP Proxy setting for vm?
Please let me know!
Thanks in Advance and Regards,
Vinod
(Hopefully) final MIDlet Bible main feature & hack & standards compliance chart published!
It was yesterday that I’ve published a larger excerpt from my forthcoming MIDlet Bible (a full roundup & tutorial explaining what MIDlets are, why you would want to run them, what applications there are to do this etc.), focusing on mostly 3D games. I haven’t been lazy in the meantime: I’ve made some serious updates to the main feature & hack & standards compliance chart of the Bible. The reason I’m posting it as a preview is pretty simple: it will still take me some two or three days to completely finish and, finally, publish the MIDlet Bible. In the meantime, however, you can already check out the new chart. I’m absolutely sure you’ll find it useful if you’re into gaming or running probably the, after Opera Mobile, second best Web Browser for Windows Mobile, Opera Mini 4 beta 2. Or, alternatively, the really unique and useful Gmail MIDlet, which is far more usable than any other Windows Mobile mailer tool.
I’ve, as has already been stated, greatly enhanced the previous version published over a month ago. I’ve added discussions of ClearType / font smoothing, automatic network connection, proxies, text input fields / areas etc. and I’ve even published the source code (!) of some of my test MIDlets I’ve written specifically for these tests. (I’m a Java pro.)
The chart is HERE, should you want to check it out before I, finally, publish the MIDlet Bible.
Comments are REALLY welcome!

Samsung WM6.5 drivers not compatible with dlls. Please look at outdated cabs link above and go to last page for omnia solution. It works fine on my omnia with Wm6.1. I have tried on WM6.5 on Omnia with same results as yours.
So the only possible solution for Omnia 2 is to downgrade to WM 6.1?

Hi dhillonbros,
thanks for your new cabs. But now I am even not able to setup my SIP configurartion with Windows Mobile 6.1 on my Omnia II (as you know it is exactly the same ROM you have).
When trying to save the settings I always get the error message you can see in my attachments. What is going wrong here?
At least storing the settings worked for me with the latest outdated cab for WM 6.1. Do you think you can provide a fix?
That is not right. I have an Omnia 2 i8000 windows mobile 6.5 and I am able to use voip on my phone. It works great )!
1. Don't forget to follow the instructions from .txt file
2. I instaled portgo m
3. AutoAudioRoute V2.0
4. Copy paste dll in windows folder.
My PDA is i8000NXXJJ1

OK. Thanks a lot. Settings could have been applied now. But the error after submitting a call is still the same that I had before with the previous cab version.
See the message from the attached screenshot. I tried calling numbers like +491231234 as well as 00491231234 and 01231234 but the error is always the same.
What to do now?

There is nothing wrong with these cabs by looking on your images. either there is a problem with your local network or its your internet provider who doesnt supports or block voip packets. you only need one codec out of three, your phone wil self configure with provided codec. Can you untick SIP ALG service in both modem and router you may be using. If its not that then change your provider to voipvoip.com(US based). Let me know your results

My phone works great with other not integrated solutions like PortSIP or AGEphone Mobile, so my network is fine. And there should not be a problem with the codecs as well as PortSIP (I don't of the codecs AGEphone uses) uses G711U, G711A and GSM as well (I know of them because theses codecs are configurable over the GUI).
I use AVM FRITZ!Box 7390 as modem / router with its own SIP registrar. That means my Omnia II is configured to use my FRITZ!Box as a SIP server whereas my FIRTZ!Box is connected to my VoIP service provider (the popular German internet provider 1&1) and redirects the VoIP packets to them. It is totally transparent to the SIP client therefore no STUN / ALG (I never heard about ALG before) is used between the SIP client and my FRITZ!Box.
I am not willing to create an account at voipvoip.com because I definitely want to use the phone numbers I got from my ISP but I may provide you credentials for testing purposes to use a phone number from my ISP if you like.
PortSIP runs with the codec G711U as well as G711A with my provider 1&1. GSM does not work.
Moreover I tested a different VoIP configuration on my Omnia II against pbxes.org as an alternative to my routers SIP registrar with the same result.
I still assume a problem with the cabs. I really want to invite you to try to reproduce my problem by connecting against pbxes.org either by creating an own totally free account with registration to a SIP provider of your choice (I may help you with the configuration at pbxes) or by running against my own account at pbxes.org with a number of my ISP.
Please let me know whether you are interested then I will PM you the settings you need for temporary usage. Of course I will donate for your help.

Thanks for testing it out. On my omnia ii it is working with no problem with great voice clarity. I have changed few setting and tweaked for a-law. My provider is 2talk.co.nz. I still believe there must be some setting which needs enabling in your modem/router. can you bypass your routing by using differnt modem/router without server. Thanks

Hello again,
I already bypassed my router by configuring my pbxes.org account, didn't I? Anyway I now switched my router with integrated telephony services support by an older FRITZ!Box 3130 without telephony services to exclude any conflicts with reserved ports or somewhat else. And you know it: Same result.
Last but not least I tried a connection over 3G by activating that option within the configuration. But I failed already with selecting the service. The search action did not succeed.
I'm running out of ideas. What now? Shall I setup an account for you? I really wanna see whether you are able to reproduce my problem or not.
Thanks a lot.
You want to get your internal GPS to send data to other applets, be that on a PC (like google earth or google maps for realtime tracking) or on another phone, UNDER WINDOWS MOBILE environment.
Methods:
1 - Franson GPS Gate (Simpler, less space requirements, GPS data multiplexing)
2 - _LEM_'s Trackme app (more features) he already has detalied info on that, please follow instructions Here on his website or Here on his post.
Franson's GPS Gate
uses:
- For noobs: Realtime tracking with google earth/maps
- For pros: share the GPS data (NMEA) with other applets within your phone, other phones (over bluetooth) and/or with a PC application over bluetooth or Activesync or serial port. Data logging, transport, etc etc.
- Requirements:
a. latest ActiveSync software (x86 or x64, pay attention to that) x86 here, x64 here.
b. Franson's GPS Gate Client for Windows Mobile, use .CAB or .exe Active Sync install as you please.
c. GPS Gate free Client for PC/Windows
- Instructions:
a. Set your phone to interact through 'Active Sync' (HTC LEO 'USB to PC' --> Activesync). When the ActiveSync pop-up comes up on your PC screen, click 'connect Without Setting up your phone'. Uncheck 'Allow connections through one of the following' if you dont want to enable bluetooth.
b. Install and configure the Windows Mobile Client on your phone (in my case, an HTC LEO). PLease check this very nice guide. Be sure to check 'Share over Active Sync', and be sure to uncheck 'share over Bluetooth', since you dont need bluetooth active. You are gonna be using your phone USB-attached to your PC to avoid battery issues (long trips).
c. Install and configure the Windows PC Client. Check here for detalied instructions. Attention: Be sure to check 'Search for Pocket PC through ActiveSync'. This is mandatory. Also, be sure to have 'Input' set as ActiveSync. In 'Output', be sure to include 'Google earth' and ActiveSync.
d. Configure GPS gate to send data to Google Earth
check Franson's guide on this. Remember, you have to turn on your GPS (open digital compass or Google maps applet on your phone) in order for Fransons Plugin to start passing data to your PC.
Well, that's it for now. I decided to link each step to external sites due to them already have detailed instructions. Suggestions, reply here.
This post was tested for HTC LEO (T8585). If this method works for other phones, please reply here.
I, actually, was looking for this.
But unfortunately Im running android.
There used to be a way to do this but it was costly.
anyway, thanks
well, while checking out stuff i pretty much bumped into some quite amount of stuff that messed with the GPS within the Android OS.
have you checked the marketplace thoroughly?
this forum also has some info on that...
