DUPLICATED SHORTCUTS - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I've got some duplicated shortcuts in my programs folder. where can in find them through the explorer? they remain there, even after the software is uninstalled.
the screen orientation icon disappeared... is that some kind of comon event to which there's a solution?!?!

Go to windows/startmenu/programs and see whats there. Just delete what you dont want to appear.

thanks a lot! I knew they had to be there somewhere

Invalid Icons (shortcuts) in Programs folder

I'm sure this is a no brainer, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove shortcuts from the 'Programs' listing after I have removed the software. For some reason every time I do a 'remove program', the shortcut is left behind...
I have a JAMin with the latest ROM and running Battery Pack Pro as the only Today plugin
It is simple. Open internet explorer and navigate to windows\start menu\programs. Delete any shortcuts that are obsolete.
Big thanks!
For some reason it didn't even come into my mind... sometimes it's the easiest things that we try to make difficult. I do appreciate the quick reply... and for not laughing at me

WM 6.5 Start Menu query

After loading a number of apps I have tried to tidy up and reduce the number of icons on the Start Menu by making a few more category folders. This I can do but when I switch the apps into folders the icon also remain on the same page as well as in the new folder - which rather negates the point of the exercise. Oddly moving apps out of folders works fine.
Any suggestions out there? And I not sure whether this is a particular quirk with Dutty's ROM (Holy Grail) or just WM 6.5.

Create your new folder in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs for example a new folder called 'Tools' would be /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Tools. Copy or create your shortcuts into this folder. Once in this folder check you have no duplicates in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs.....if you do, delete these
Fallen Spartan. Thanks for the quick response.
I think that is what I am doing but I end up with icons in both the main Start Menu plus in the new folder. Looking in file explorers the moved apps are only in the new folder not still on the main menu. I was hoping a soft reset might clear any "ghost" icons but they are still both there. Any further suggestions? Thanks

Dont copy them, make your new folder then cut and paste the shorcut you want from the root of the start menu folder to the new one
Raymond try this app sk shortcut manager, you get a free 14 day trial, if you still want to use it after that time you will have to buy a licence from here

That's fine now. The originial icons are disappearing from time to time - and not coming back. Bit odd really. (have realised that the phantom icons disappar from the mainstart screen when you you try to move them up or down ewith the context menu)
Second question if I am allowed that in one thread? No I have new folders anyway of customising the look of the icon?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere the forum is so big it is hard to follow current posts let alone hunt for old ones.
Thanks again
RE-start is a good app to customise ur start menu icons/folders... check this thread for more info

Removing Start Menu icons

Hi, the HD2 is my first Windows Mobile Device, I've never used that OS before. So i got a simple question, is it possible to remove icon in the start menu? There's some like Facebook, Bing, Copilot, Help, Google Maps etc that I never use, so having them wasting space in the start menu is not in my interest.
Thanks
Open in file explorer windows\start menu\programs and delete shortcuts
Weiri cant find that directory :S

Deleted Icons Reappear
I have an issue with this on my HD2. I wanted the HTC icons (twitter, music, people, etc.) to be in a seperate HTC folder in the start menu. I cut the icons from the Programs folder and pasted them in the HTC folder that I had previously made.
Here comes the issue: after a while, the icons reappear in the start menu, while they are also in my HTC folder. The icons that reappear are blank.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a million,
Bruce

HTC_Music, HTC_Calendar & HTC_People Double Icons!!

Hi Guys,
I've had the HD2 for about 2 months now and am absolutely loving it! One slight problem that I noticed this afternoon though was 3 double icons appearing in my Start Menu.
The duplicate icons appear with the default blank square icon whereas the correct icons still have original icons that I applied with IconChanger. The double icons all work and start the correct programs. I've had a look around the forum and seen similar posts but, in general, the guys that have had this problem have 16 or 20 quicklinks installed, I don't. I tried renaming/overwriting the icons in Resco Explorer which worked but, after a soft reset, they've all come back again!!
Is there any way I can permanently remove these duplicates without causing any damage to the system?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

First page, item 42. Did you miss this thread when you were searching?

Not to worry, I used Resco Explorer to make the duplicate files hidden and, after a soft reset, I got rid of them. Mods can delete this.
Thanks
I find in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ two links: HTC_Music.lnk and HTC Music.lnk.
The first cant be delete, it's reappear after a reboot, so i put the data of the second into the first and delete it and the shortcut in \Windows\start menu\Programs.
I only change the key Rank and add Icon and Name.

START: organise items as a-z lists in separate folders?

it's driving me mad having to always scroll through a lot of unorganised items in "Start".
I see i can create new folders in "start" (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\) and move the icons there according to categories i like.
But what about NOT having big icons in "Start" and its sub-folders but only 1 row of an alphabetical list (with much smaller icons or without).
Would that be possible?
I'm interested too...there's a way to organize the links in start menu in an alphabetical order? (without changing the position of every single link, one by one...too boring)
thanks in advance
it does not seem exactly so as i thought with moving the links of the apps to a structure of folders in "start menu".
Some of the links reappear in "start menu" after moving them to sub-folders, e.g.: HTC icons, and some apps like BsB Tweak, ClearTemp and other.
Whats the reason for that? how can i stop them reappearing there again?
i'll try it once more to ask. maybe now there will somebody here to help?
No, there is no way to automatically organise the links alphabetically.
Reapearing icons - search the forum, this has been answered more than once, there is a cab available that stops them coming back.
thanks, it's disappointing.
but it's not only about the HTC icons. Other links reappear as well when i move them into a sub-folder: apps like BsB Tweak, ClearTemp, Navigon.
how do those links come into the "start" although they are not in the folder "windows/start menu"?
Not really sure, i encountered the same thing, so i just moved all my often used ones to the top, and forgot about it, heh. (Ignorance can be bliss...)
ALso, dont forget some of the links will be in rom memory (read only) so they will reappear. If you browse with something like resco, look at the file attributes, if there is an R attribute set, that is a rom file and wont move.
