HTC_Music, HTC_Calendar & HTC_People Double Icons!! - HD2 General

Hi Guys,
I've had the HD2 for about 2 months now and am absolutely loving it! One slight problem that I noticed this afternoon though was 3 double icons appearing in my Start Menu.
The duplicate icons appear with the default blank square icon whereas the correct icons still have original icons that I applied with IconChanger. The double icons all work and start the correct programs. I've had a look around the forum and seen similar posts but, in general, the guys that have had this problem have 16 or 20 quicklinks installed, I don't. I tried renaming/overwriting the icons in Resco Explorer which worked but, after a soft reset, they've all come back again!!
Is there any way I can permanently remove these duplicates without causing any damage to the system?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Not to worry, I used Resco Explorer to make the duplicate files hidden and, after a soft reset, I got rid of them. Mods can delete this.
Thanks

I find in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ two links: HTC_Music.lnk and HTC Music.lnk.
The first cant be delete, it's reappear after a reboot, so i put the data of the second into the first and delete it and the shortcut in \Windows\start menu\Programs.
I only change the key Rank and add Icon and Name.

Crashing on Home screen - I think I made a mistake

Hi all,
I have dutty's latest rom installed, and I decided I wanted extra calendar appointments on my home screen. So I *fistly* Installed "Compact Homescreen - Autohide Call history, dynamic appointment list" from hallatore from this page, then "Homescreen HD - Tore edition" from the same page because I wanted my wallpaper back.
Now, every time I tap the clock to go to my alarm, TouchFlo resets, and tapping calendar entry's goes to the old style calendar.
PLEASE HELP. All I wanted was some extra appointments on my home screen, and a dynamic 'Missed Calls' bar. I've cocked it right up.
.
The cab files seem to include the following:
00000cab.000
1C684C~1.001 = 1c684cd8_manila
25D044~1.002 = 25d04412_manila
2A0AC4~1.003 = 2a0ac464_manila
_setup.xml
Is there any way I can reset these to how they were?
Maybe if someone can copy these files from thier "Dutty HD V3.7 XT Final" rom for me, I can overwrite them in the windows folder... Would that work?
.
.
.
PLEASE!
PLEASE!
Can anyone who has Dutty's latest rom installed, please copy the following 3 files from the windows directory for me!
1c684cd8_manila
25d04412_manila
2a0ac464_manila
PLEASE! I need them back to normal.
.
Here are the 3 files.
They are copied from Duttys 3.7 XT Final with Manila 2.1.
Please press start, and count the number of icons available on the start menu.
If there are 30 slots, you're on Manila 2.1. If there are 24 slots, you're on Manila 2.0.
Please only use these files if you are on Manila 2.1. I don't know how they will work on Manila 2.0.
Edit:
If you go to settings tab -> all settings -> System tab -> Remove programs, don't you have the option to uninstall the two cabs you installed?
This should set your system back to normal.

Thanks for that Royan. It doesn't seem to have made a difference though. Now I'm thinking it's made some registry changes I don't know about.
Can someone check to see what registry entries the attached cabs have changed, and what they should be.
I feel such a fool. I'd just got the phone to a state that I could live with. I'm so annoyed at myself for trying to change it.
.
Both files do exactly the same, and that is installing the above mentioned files to the windows folder.
There are no registry changes made.
The way it looks, is that the second file you install will overwrite the changes made by the first file you install.
If you try to uninstall from remove programs, the system should be back to normal.
If that doesn't work, try removing the files and soft reset.
Soft resetting after removing the files, should restore them from ROM.
Last attempt, if that doesn't work, is hard reset. However, that will wipe the phone, so get a backup of all data you want to keep!
PIMBackup is a good program to save PIM data such as call history, SMS messages, contacts, appointments etc. You can find it by searching this forum.
Good luck

I've tried uninstalling, but the uninstaller claims it can't do it, then asks me if I want to remove it from the list, which it can't do even if I press yes.
I really don't fancy doing a hard reset, I've spent the last week setting it right up.
There must be a registry entry somewhere that tells it what to do when you tap the clock, it used to go to that lovely new alarm screen.
Also, what did the new rom do when you clicked a calendar entry on the home screen? Did it go to the new style calendar? I can't remember. It's currently going to the old style microsoft pap.

New style...
Did you try deleting the files with Total Commander ( not regular file explorer), and soft-resetting?
Actually, try renaming then to *.bak instead of deleting (just in case... )

I renamed them using Resco and did a soft reset as you said, but I'm now thinking it's not those files. The installation must have changed something else.
Damn it.
.
The installation of the two cabs did not do anything anything other than installing the three manila files.
I've opened the packages in CAB Manager, and I did not see anything else.
If the problem is not the specific files, then it must have been something else you installed.
Maybe try to uninstall one and one program, soft-resetting after each, and see what (if any) fixes the problem.
If nothing helps, I'm afraid a hard reset is your only option.
Look on the positive side, If you spent a week customizing your phone, you know what you did. It shouldn't take you more than an hour or three to get all it back.

2 hours later and...
Hard Reset - Done.
Reinstalled everything, resynced, re-setup my emails, put all my favourtites back, all that's left is to remap my contacts with thier facebook selves and I'm done.
NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN...
Unless someone knows how to get more appointments on the home screen on Dutty 3.7 XT...
Congratulations!?!?
Good that you're back to a working device.
Just sorry that it took a heard reset to do it.

WM 6.5 Start Menu query

After loading a number of apps I have tried to tidy up and reduce the number of icons on the Start Menu by making a few more category folders. This I can do but when I switch the apps into folders the icon also remain on the same page as well as in the new folder - which rather negates the point of the exercise. Oddly moving apps out of folders works fine.
Any suggestions out there? And I not sure whether this is a particular quirk with Dutty's ROM (Holy Grail) or just WM 6.5.

Create your new folder in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs for example a new folder called 'Tools' would be /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Tools. Copy or create your shortcuts into this folder. Once in this folder check you have no duplicates in /Windows/Start Menu/Programs.....if you do, delete these
Fallen Spartan. Thanks for the quick response.
I think that is what I am doing but I end up with icons in both the main Start Menu plus in the new folder. Looking in file explorers the moved apps are only in the new folder not still on the main menu. I was hoping a soft reset might clear any "ghost" icons but they are still both there. Any further suggestions? Thanks

Dont copy them, make your new folder then cut and paste the shorcut you want from the root of the start menu folder to the new one
Raymond try this app sk shortcut manager, you get a free 14 day trial, if you still want to use it after that time you will have to buy a licence from here
http://s-k-tools.com/
That's fine now. The originial icons are disappearing from time to time - and not coming back. Bit odd really. (have realised that the phantom icons disappar from the mainstart screen when you you try to move them up or down ewith the context menu)
Second question if I am allowed that in one thread? No I have new folders anyway of customising the look of the icon?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere the forum is so big it is hard to follow current posts let alone hunt for old ones.
Thanks again
RE-start is a good app to customise ur start menu icons/folders... check this thread for more info

Remove 'Today' and 'Interactive' Link In Start Menu

Hi, I cant seem to do this because:
1. The today link doesnt show up in file explorer or resco file explorer even with 'show all files' checked, so I dont see anyway to remove it.
2. Interactive appears to be some sort of tmobile crap installed ( I think ) which I can delete, but comes back with every soft reset, I have applied the cab to stop files such as htc_people coming back, but 'interactive' isnt affected
Any solutions guys?
ME TOO!
Anyone got an answer to this? Its really annoying me how I have to put up with that random icon that cant be changed, an ugly pimple among the loverly Metro icons I have.

"Ghost" Icons. They haunt my Start Menu

How this issue started:
I created a couple new folders to better organize my Start Menu and to appease my OCD. I cleared the dead icon links from my Home tab, cleared Icon Catch and did a soft reset.
I now have icons in my start menu - that are active - that should have been moved to a new folder - which are also active. Strange.
Stranger still is the fact I can't see these by browsing in phone, computer, or with Icon Changer. They just don't show so I have no way to remove them by conventional means. They're like... Ghosts.
Anyone know how to get rid of these ghost icons?

If they are the HTC program ones, its a registry key you'll need to change.

Actually none of them are HTC apps. They are kinda random:
CleanRam (and config)
WebTV
SPB TV
Bananas
BsB Tweaks
CHT Editor
Omarket
JWMD Icon Changer
I moved all of these to diff folders, amongst others - yet these icons stay. Would this still be a registry issue?
And yes i cleared Icon Cache

Customising HD2 Theme

Hi All,
I am needing to customise a few things on our new HD2's automatically.
I've created a cab file that successfully deletes a bunch of unwanted shortcuts & make some changed to the IE favourites.
However, I want to disable HTCSense & also set a default background/wallpaper via a cab file, but I'm having trouble with this.
I've managed to semi do it via registry entries in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\
It appears to have disabled HTCSense & enabled the Windows Default 'today' screen. But I still get HTC Calander, Music, Footprints & Peep icons in the start menu, however they do not function. There are no .lnk files to delete to get rid of these...
And for the background, the registry entry is there & under settings\today it shows as being selected, but the wallpaper is not actually applying.
Thanks in advance!
So... Found the issue with the background/wallpaper... It doesn't actually use that registry key to select the wallpaper, its just for display on the Today settings page... grr...
Copied the relevant files to \windows\stwater_480_800.png & stwater_800_480.png & rebooted.
So now I'm left with getting rid of the HTC shortcuts...
Also, is there a way to force a reboot after installing the CAB file?
Cheers!
