Hi guys, I am sorry for posting this request but I have been looking for some time for it with little success...I need to find the file that updates/installs the GPRS settings for 02 for my XDA 2i. I've done a hard reset and went for corporate version which seems to work okish and I have no GPRS settings at all for some reason.
thanks
Yanni
ps. why don't people put the settings/files as sticky posts?

O2 Gprs settings
if you want it done automatically look in the EXT ROM and there's a cab file called "O2UK_Conection_Setting.sa.cab" (well there is on my XDAIIs ).
Or I can PM you it if you like - PM me if you do as I might not read this page for a while
Hiya guys.
I've tried adding these manual settings into my XDA 2, but I get the following error when I try to connect:
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
No modem at above number. To check your connection settings, and change them if needed, tap Settings.
What do you guys suggest?
i think your settings are different to the xda2i
Yeah I'm using a bog-standard XDA 2.
Can someone point me in the right direction for the normal xda2 settings?
why not try phoning o2 maybe they can help ,it will take about an hour but they will see the light
or go here there are some settings on this page just find what you need

I have just purchased a k-jam and I am on a vodafone uk contract and I am not being able to connect to the internet. Can someone give me any advice on the necessary connection methods. Vodafone are not being of any help.
Assuming you have GPRS etc enabled on the SIM and its a contract SIM
use the following:
username: web
password: web
APN/Access Point Name: internet
Should work fine..
The best way to go online with your contract is to use GPRS. This is very easy to set up on the Wizard.
Firstly click Settings
Then click the Connections tab at the bottom
Next select Connections
Under My ISP, choose 'Add a new modem connection'
Give the connection a name (e.g. Vodafone GPRS) and select the modem type as 'Cellular Line (GPRS)'. Then click next.
Now enter the 'Access Point Name' as internet and click next.
Now enter the User Name as web and the password as web and finally click finish.
That should do it. Now open internet explorer and enter a web page and you should be ok. You will, of course, have to setup your e-mail settings separately.
Hope this helps
Hi,
Just unzip this and Install the Vodafone CAB.
Hi tried installing Vodafone_UK_PAYT.CAB on my XDA Mini S, goes through the install ok, but for some reason it doesn't seem to add any of the settings
Any ideas why? Does it need the k-kam ROM or some additional settings from this for it to work?
thanks in advance
Graeme
i wouldn't bother with the cab file at all. just set it up manually.
there is a good tutorial on vodafone web site:
http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispat...&_pageLabel=Page_BOS_PDA_Guide&pageID=GM_0302
the salient points are:
dial:
*99#
post dial string:
+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"
speed setting:
57600
untick:
wait for dialing tone
stop bits set to 2

password:

Hey folks...
I'm about to purchase an XDA Exec. I've seen most of my questions answered in various places on the net including this one.
The ONLY question I haven't seen addressed directly is the following:
I have a tmobile account which pushes my email to my phone. I understand that I insert my sim into the XDA Exec, but do I have to input any settings to grab my email from tmobile's servers so that it "lands" in my XDA?
Thanks in advance. I didnt see anything specific about this...

Yes you do. O2 sets up Exec to work with O2... so you need to get your settings for t-mobile to make email work.

Those were other comments that I commented out...
Thanks for the 411 and I appreciate the assistance as I am a novice at this.
1) Assuming I fresh and empty XDA and assuming that I start w/ the start button, where exactly do I apply these settings?
2) Are these also the settings for web surfing via gprs?
Thanks
1) Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Manage existing connections/add connection (in the top part) > select modem Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) > enter APN > Finish
2) yes

This is EXACTLY what I have done.
I then start pocket IE and get the following message:
"The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
Are you on the phone while you are trying to connect to GPRS? If you are this is why you are getting this message. I have no issues with my JasJar and GPRS. I am using the O2 rom which is much better than the Imate. I suggest hard booting your device, and not using any of the O2 garbage. Unlock the extended rom and just run the bluetooth patch and dialer cab. Then re install any apps you want. Have fun!
Mike
I've searched the forum but I've been unable to find the CAB file which will install all this for me. Otherwise can anyone tell me the manual setup especially for MMS as it won't work with the settings I've input. This is just because I've put the Qtek ROM on the device.
It may be out of date but you could try
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
I think this will work..
Try it.. This was originally found after a look using the Search function. I think I put "mms AND setting AND cab"..
t-mobile gprs settings
APN - general.t-mobile.co.uk
number - *99#
username - user
password - pass

I have attempted to set up GPRS on my M600 (Unlocked for Vodafone sim)
GPRS has been enabled as I have the G icon up!
I have been on the vodafone website and tried there settings with no luck!
I have been on the Filesaveas website and plugged in all of those settings with NO luck, Have also installed the I-mate .cab again with no luck!!!
I am starting to go insane spent three days trying all different settings and No luck at all!!!!
You name the website and I think Ihave probably tried it.
Does anyone have any useful advise for me, provide me with some form of sanity check!!!!
Ideally I wold love a .cab file to install!
But would like feedback from anyone else in a similar position, on how they resolved this some what annoying issue!!!!
regards
Wilko_007
I set up my Vario II for Vodafone with no problem. These settings (*.pdf file) seem to be the same as the ones I used, see how they compare with the settings you are using.
Many thanks I will give it a go!
Ok have now got connection but I can't surf?
I have seen comments about GPRS beening fully enabled?
Are there 2 forms of GPRS that can be enabled? WAP & WEB???
Do I need to worry about the Dialing Rules???
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

Could you be a little more specific i.e. does it come up with a pop-up box stating that it is connecting to GPRS? If yes, which connection does it say it is connecting to, is it the correct one (i.e. the new GPRS settings that you have just keyed in)? When you say it won't surf, what do you mean exactly ... are you using Pocket IE and does it come up with any error messages etc...
Connection via GPRS No probs I then get the Small G and the two arrows fixed on the bar.
Enter IE and type google for example.
get the status bar flash up breifly and then disapear, with no change to the original Orange World Home page!!!
No errors what so ever????
okay ... the next thing I would probably do then is download an alternative browser to see if it still happens in a different browser. Netfront is pretty good. At least that way you should be able to establish if it is a GPRS problem or a browser problem.
Ok I now have installed Netfront and connected to the GPRS!
typed in www.google.com
I have a warning screen:
Browser Warning
Cannot load Page
Type: DNS no server is specified
?????
Okay .. I am running out of ideas now, it does sound like your GPRS Settings are still wrong.
Click 'start menu', 'settings' and go to the 'Connections' tab. Now click 'Connections', then the 'Advanced' tab then 'Select Networks'. The first box (ie. Programs that connect to the Internet automatically) should say 'My Isp' and if you click 'Edit', it should show you 'Vodafone Internet' is selected.
If you then select to edit that, you should see in this order 'Vodafone Internet' and then it should show modem type as GPRS, next page should show Access Point Name of 'Internet', next page should show User name 'Web' ... password is the same, domain field should be blank ... nothing needs to be done in the advanced tab because the default of 'Use-server-assigned IP address' should automatically be selected, same for the server tab too, default should be server-assigned.
These are the settings that work fine on both my XDA Mini S and my MDA Vario II.
Right I have checked both ISP and MyWork Network, all correct!
The only thing I can see is that the password box has loads of characters (*'s) instead of just 3 *'s for WEB (***)
But every thing else is as the PDF??
Stumped!!!!
you can try messing with the newly released ms network tools there is a link in development forum
or you can try manualy typing in a know dns server in the settings
unless the gprs dont route the request
any dsn server ip will do
same as pc's really
I am afraid I don't know then ... we have reached the level of my knowledge (which isn't high )
Perhaps somebody with a little more technical knowhow on GPRS issues may be able to help you.
Sorry I couldn't get it sorted for you.
Thanks for your help a least I can connect now!!
Thank you again!!
anyone heard of the connection No. being *99#?
Vodafone instructed me to put that in the setup?
I guess that goes in under the " My Work Network" Vodafone Wap - Number?
This is now becoming a huge headache anyone got any ideas?
not sure how vodaphone handle it but i never heard about
ppl having to add numbers when they picked gprs as connection
belived that was only if you connected around grps

I'm expericening a similar problem.
My phone was sold as an O2 XDA Mini S. My O2 contract/account doesn't allow GPRS (they want me to upgrade) so I tried my Vodafone PAYG SIM and it works without having to have the phone unlocked in any way. By that I mean I can use voice calls and using the settings I've found through this site I can send MMS messages via GPRS but I cannot connect to the internet. I've checked with Vodafone and the account will allow internet and GPRS etc.
The only thing that I can see that is wrong is the password. Whenever I type "web" then finish, it always defaults back to a string of 16 ***'s when I re-check the settings.
I've even done a hard reset and used the corporate install to no avail. I don't want to run any sort of unlocking software if I don't need to as I don't want to create a very expensive door stop.
Any ideas?
The string of asterisks is normal, I think it is just a method used by Windows to make the password more difficult for someone to guess i.e. by disguising not only the characters but also the number of characters.
I just double checked and my fully working settings also show a row of asterisks despite it being a 3 character password.
Thanks Nicky
I'll keep plodding away with this but hopefully someone might steer me in the right direction soon.

Hi all,
I've got my sim-free HD2 from superetrader uk. But after inserting my o2 sim, I got a really big problem that I can't get to web!!
I used "O2" network settings found by HD2 automatically. But it always said
"Cannot Connect
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection...blahblah"
when I tried to access 3G.
I've tried many ways suggested on the internet, including removing username and password in the connection settings, adding DNS ip, and even using hard reset. But thay can't work at all.
But my sim does work well(accessing 3G) in my HTC HD(that rom supports 3G and connection settings are with blank username, password and DNS).
I nearly suspect there is a manufacturing problem with my phone.
Plz help me! I've struggled for 2 days and gonna explode!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
To find a solution, please go to #6. Thanks!
can you try to go on the o2 site using your pc and download the settings to your phone via mms/sms
are you a payg customer
are you using pay as you go?
if so on my mates phone on O2 it downloads the wrong connection settings when it does the automatic setup and you need to edit them to get it to work
Find and edit the right name for your accesspoint.
At german o2 it is APN (Zugriffspunkt) : webmobil1
Thank you all!!
You helpful guys all hit the point!!
Exactly I am a pay & go user.
After I got your replys, I asked my friend who also uses O2 pay&go with S1. He told me a different APN. Then I tried and it worked!!
So it's right a wrong access point name setting problem.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH AGAIN!!
Here are my correct connection settings for UK O2 PAY & GO USER WITH A SIM FREE HD2 if you undergo a pain with accessing internet:
Settings - Wireless controls - Menu - Connections - Add a new modem connection
[you can delete all other connections first if you only use o2 mobile internet]
Enter a name for the connection: mobile web (whatever you like)
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Next.
Access point name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Next.
User name:
Password:
Domain:
(These three items are all left BLANK)
Advanced...
(Just use the default settings)
Finish.
OK.
OK.
Close.
Now it works.
Alternatively, you can use automatic config by choosing O2 from network database of HD2. Then you can just manage the connection "moblie web" by changing access poing name to payandgo.o2.co.uk and deleting both username and password.
Hope that's clear!
Thank you loads! I was having the same problem and thanks to this post I managed to sort it! Nice to know the automatic O2 settings thing works about as well as a chocolate teapot!
Again thanks
