When SDIO wifi cards are inserted it won't auto standby - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi wondering if anyone else has this problem and if they know the solution: When I have an SD wifi card in my qtek s100, be it the stubby spectec or the sandisk 256mb+wifi the PDA won't obey the battery power settings and suspend automatically after 3mins. So if I have the wifi card plugged in and miss a phone call (which wakes it up), it stays on and the battery runs all the way down.
I'd be greatful if someone could point me at the solution!

I use the sandisk wifi without memory and I do not have your problem.
I have ROM and Radio version 1.12.00 and ExtROM version 1.12.119wwe.

damn I put on rom 1.12 and I STILL have the problem :-(

What driver version du you have for the sandisk wifi ?
I have version 3.00.04.02.0030 and my sandisk card has NIC version 1.07.06.00.
Did you install the driver before you insertet the card ? - I did...

BTW: If I disable power save mode in the advanced configuration of the wifi and do a reset, the my PDA won't turn off either.
Enable power save mode and reset, - then it works again...

Ah I've figured it out, it seems it was Wisbar's fault ( http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/wisbar/ version 2.4.0.1 )
If i exit wisbar and set the power settings to always enable then yep it turns itself off properly.
thanks for the help

actually it wasnt Wisbar. I've only managed to get it to power off once. I've also updated my spectec driver to 1.25 but it still wont power off automatically. Also it doesnt power off when bluetooth activesynced.

Imate and Sandisk wifi

I have an imate and am using the Sandisk SDIO Wifi. Here is something that I've noticed and wondering if anyone has noted the following.
When wifi led is solid green and all is working ie surfing and email good, turn off the wifi from the Sandisk utility and leave card in. Now if you go back into the utility and turn on the wifi, it will all work fine. So far so good.
Now with the card in and all working, go and turn off the wifi via the Sandisk utility, take out the card and re-insert it. Now go to the utility and turn it back on, the led will go solid green but now I can't surf or get email. If you check the available networks section it will show none available and the "Networks to Access" will show the selection "Only computer to computer". You can use the utility to switch it on and off and on again and the same result will happen. The only way to reconnect now is to take the card out and insert it back while the utility radio is set to on(or a soft reset while the utility is set on). A soft reset while the utility is set to off will not rectify it.
To summarize:
While card is working you can turn if off and then switch it back on with no problem if you leave the card in, even if you switch off the power to the imate. If you switch the utility off and take out the card, it will not work next time when you insert it and turn it on via the Sandisk Utility. You must take the card out while the utility is set to on and then reinsert it. This is why some people think that the card is not working?
Im curious to see if anyone else notices.

Mini & Wifi Issue.

I have an XDA mini and a Sandisk SD WiFi card.
When I load the drivers and insert the card it works fine.
After about 20 minutes of use i disconnect and remove the card.
My issue is that when i re insert the card a couple of hours later or the next day the card will not initialize. I have to do a soft reset to get the card going again.
Anyone have any clues or ways to resolve this?????
That is true! It happened to me! But you dont need to soft reset your jam! You only have to go to the AP Browser of your card add again your access point and press apply and it will be fine! My sandisk wifi+256 works better with 1.06 than with 1.03! The good thing is that when you turn wireless off it wont turn off your bluetooth too as it used to do with version 1.03
what do you mean by AP browser?
Just click on the wifi Antenna located on the lower right of jam's screen and then click on AP Browser
The card does not initialize.....i don't get the antenna coming up. :?
i have the same problem
if i boot w/ another sd card, it doesn't recognize the wifi card
or after i switch a number of cards, same problem
works fine after soft reset tho
I have discovered the root of the problem and it seems that when i have 2 applications loaded i need to soft reset to get the wif going again. They programs are SPB Software house's GPRS monitor and weather applications. When i remove these the card works fine....as soon as they are installed again they kill my card.
I use both those programs (SPB pocket plus 2.1) and GPRS monitor and my card works fine all the time!
I use pocket plus 2.5.
I have done a hard reset and reloaded everything and the some thing occurs. I will try it again this evening and see how i go.
try 2.1! I had many problems with 2.5
the main reason for me using 2.5 as opposed to 2.1 is that it allows the integration of the gprs monitor and the weather into it tabs.
Without it the apps simply take up too much real estate on the screen.
This may be the cure to the card not initializing on a soft reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18327&highlight=bluetooth+today+timeout
Kind of the same problem but with the built-in bluetooth.
I seem to be having problems with the SanDisk wifi card too.
I loaded the drivers from Sandisk, inserted the card and it appeared to work okay at first.
Later when I inserted the card all I have now is a pop up box "unable to connect to the wireless card Netcard. Is it inserted?" The card little red light does not illuminate at all.
I have done a soft reset, reloaded the drivers, and removed spb pocket plus 2.5. I still have however the spb GPRS monitor.
Short of a hard reset i am stuck.
Could the card be dead?
I have a MDA Compact with UK T-mobile ROM etc.
Thanks,
Mike.
I removed 2.5 and installed 2.1 and seems to work fine now.
Keeping in mind that i did a hard reset and reloaded all my software.
After a hard reset and no other software, still no joy
Phoned Sandisk technical support, and after half an hour of reloading drivers etc the conclusion was the card had died
So it is being returned for repair/replacement.
Interestingly Sandisk tech. said that the card would be discontinued shortly due to the number of pda's with built-in wifi. Also no drivers would be developed for WM2003 SE or any future software versions
The problem is when you use the phone application either incoming or outgoing, the wifi card drivers dont get initialized again so a soft reset is needed. The wifi drivers and phone appl drivers dont interact well with each other.
What i do is i kill the phone application using some taskmanger temporarily, insert the wifi card then you will see the led blinks on the wifi card (works most of the time) after which relaunch the phone application. So no reset needed.
I use my Sandisk WiFi everyday, and don't have the problem you describe (touchwood). I do all of the things you said, and have no problems. I use GPRS Monitor 2.3.0 too (constantly running).
I use driver v3.00.04. Have you tried a hard reset and progressive install of all your apps to see the cause? (yes, it is a pain)

tt5 don't works with flight mode activate ?

i have a qtek 9100 with tomtom 5.210 installed.
when i use tt5 i must leave my radio unit turned on (flight mode deactivate) if i turn off radio unit (flight mode activate) my tt5 stops connection with gps and a message appear (no gps with flight mode activate)
please help me...tomtom site have only ridicolous answers...
When u turn on flight mode, all radio communications are turned off.
Bluetooth, wifi, and gsm.
So your bluetooth gps will not work anymore.
Havn't found a way yet to turn off the gsm without turning on flight mode, but personally i see no reason to do this.
the reason:
when i leave my country for holiday i usually turn off my telephone that i use for work but i would like to use my tomtom navigator. with my old magician i could do with newest wizard no... please help me....
sorry for my english
Put your networksettings to manual and your phone will look for you home network and will be unable to connect
Or don't enter a pin but push cancel (not certain about the last one)
Couldn't you put a different SIM in when yuo go on holiday?
The workaround is to configure TomTom to use "Other Cable NMEA" instead of "Other Bluetooth" - then you can have your phone switched off, and Bluetooth switched on.
thank you very much for trying to give me a solution...
the tip of network doesn't work...the phone doesn't connect home and request me to choose another network.
the tip of the nmea cable doesn't work...i can't reach com6 port in setting configuration of tomtom program
i think i probably don't have a solution...
Did you try the trick of not entering the pin for your SIM mentioned above?
That would be a nice solution because you still would be able to call emergency number.
Very handy for when TT sends you straight off a cliff or something
I use to have to turn my phone part of on my XDA IIi for TomTom as my SD card (SanDisk Ultra II 2GB) locked up when the radio was on.
There are 3 ways to achive this that I have all found successful:-
1. Remove your Sim Card
2. Create a PIN on your Sim Card and press cancel when asked for it.
3. Download PocketZenPhone (http://zendrui.free.fr/) this will allow you to create a profile with just the phone radio turned off that you can toggle on and off.
I now use a Transcend 80x 512mb SD card for TomTom which never locks up (Thanks to the forums here for recommending this one!!! ).
Hope this helps
David
the pin trick works fine thank you very much....and marry xmas

wifi

Is anyone else having problems with a sx-66 and wifi. I have upgraded to all three roms, tried radio rom 1.15 and 1.13 and still no luck. I can see the network and it attempts to connect and then drops. I am trying to connect to a linksys router and I am using wep. I have other PPC's wm5 and wm6 and they all connect no problems. It worked with the 2003se on it. Any ideas would be appreciated. I currently have the xplode rom (fixed version).
greg
I also have a sx66 and i used to have the same problems on different roms. But ever since helmis wm6 rom i have gotten it to work. I am currently using pdaviets rom.
It could just be the rom compatibility.
Im not sure if this is useful but try turning on Wlan first. Then afterwards turn on wifi.
I tried Helmi's rom with no luck, but I think I will reflash it and try again. If I don't follow the procedure that you suggested it will not work at all (wifi won't turn on).
Thanks for the suggestions... I will see if going back to Helmi's works.
greg
hi...
actually i have a helmi's rom.
i had the same problem, but i had discovered that you should turn on the bluetooth first, then turn on the wifi.
be sure you have all programs closed, and if you still haven't do it, softreset the device and try again
wlan manager first after SR
I use Helmi's WM6 rom. Issue was there in WM5 rom too, mostly after soft reset.
Workaround:
after a soft reset I first connect WiFi via WLAN manager (it tries to connect but doesn't). Then I use the COM Manager (I installed the HTC Touch 2.0 from xplode, but previous/other version also OK) and I connect without problem.
Use workaround anytime when WiFi seems non responsive.
Cheers
Ok i will explain something about wifi problems
Our drivers have a lil bugs in wm5-6
Wifi startup procedure in WM6:
1.Turn on the wifi from wireless manager (start=>settings=>connections=>wireless lan)
2.It will turn on and automatically turn off (this is afrer soft reset and you must do it after every soft reset if you want to use wifi on/off trough comm manager. it will stay on only after first usage in a fresh rom)
3.Turn on the wifi trough comm manager
4.It will detect your network(try to connect to it so the newtwork settings to be applyed - encryption, channel, ssid and password) but it will not connect to it
4. turn off wifi and then turn it back on (this time it will detect your network and it will connect)
this procedure works for me every time
i use linksys wrt54gc router with WPA TKIP encryption, tryed this on other routers and AP's also and it work flawlessly
For me, the following 2 steps always work:
1) Turn on 'Wi-Fi' from CommMgr
2) Once inside CommMgr, click (settings;Wireless LAN) and select 'Turn on WLAN'
With these 2 steps, my Wifi ALWAYS turn on (even after soft reset).
Sometimes, step1 by itself turns it on.
I programmed CommMgr to be the bottom-right icon for (Contacts) on screen.
My bottom-left button is programmed for Tomtom6.
check out xplode's HTC WLAN Manager cab
I have just installed xplode's HTC WLAN Manager cab which solved all my WiFi issues. Have a look (and download the file) at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1668110#post1668110
Also post your findings, whether it worked for you etc.
(Is there a way to combine these 2 threads (admin?), they seem a duplication.)
Cheers,

I gave up on Helmi's ROM and thought I would try yours: I wonder if your method might work better on your ROM?? If it doesn't, I assume your solution might!
But I am having problems installing your ROM: I suspect my problem might be blindlingly obvious. Your installation utility sees the BA and correctly identifies my unit and the Helmi OS. I then try to upgrade and with nothing changing on the BA, the computer stops seeing the unit and fails every time with Error 101. Sometimes if I try again it fails with Error 150. Rebooting doesn't seem to help. When it fails, curiously the upgrade utility hangs on the screen and the upgrade panel (with no progress of course) stays transparent in the foreground. I am using Windows XP and the original radio ROM as i cant see how the Radio could affect how the computer sees the BA.
Or is the BA just a buggy unit and should I stick with my Wizard? (I kinda like the thinness and size of the screen on the BA and wonder if VoIP might work better on a 400 MHz unit than a 190 MHz one?). Or has anyone managed to get any of the Wizard WM6 ROMs working on the BA?
licensedtoquill if you want to trash your BA I will take it off your hands.
The Errors you are talking about are old ones, you need to read the Wiki, not what the software says on the screen, I think from memory it says something like, do a normal reset now... ignore that and put the device into Bootloader mode (USB or Serial) then run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe update again.
DO NOT FOLLOW STEP 1 at the following screen. DON'T DO IT!
Yes, I had noticed that one!

It's rather funny, isnt it? It is designed to send you round in circles while showing a completely different device so as to say "Told You So!" But I can't imagine any device which would take this instruction to stop upgrading and start all over again in the middle of the upgrade process???
I do seem to have completely cured my WiFi problems (perhaps slightly labouriosly) by following your instructions. But what is Xplode's .cab file for??? In any event, it doesn't install, preferring to give an 'unsuccessful' error message instead. I wonder if it is supposed to be in Xplode's ROM or if it will be incorporated into some ROM in the future?
What mystifies me is why the BA ROMs are so much smaller than the Wizard ones? That so much seemingly has to be left out of them, to be installed later with all the conflicts which seem to ensue when you do this.
In any event, I am not about to junk my BA as I do prefer it to the Wizard at the moment for the screen size alone. You really can press an icon with a finger if necessary where on the Wizard, you invariably get the wrong one pressed.
Hi,
Ive exactly the same problem as you. It keeps trying to connect but without any success. It shows Wi-Fi: Connecting and after that Wi-Fi: Available/Unavailable, but not Connected. Every time it fails, damn !

Cannot turn on Phone

Hi all
After phone shutdown from comm manager, there is no way to turn it ON same way (semms like wifi problem issue)
Nothing other a softreset
Is this a known issue ???
Thank you !!
(QTEK9090 + HELMI_BA_WM6_R0)
Yes this is known isue. This is not the same problem like wifi.
WIFI - at startup BA not load drivers. You must from wrlsmgr load drivers(option turn on wifi) and everything working OK
Phone - commanager can't correctly switch off phone module. Workaround - turn off phone from utility flightmode publicated on this forum.
