XDA IIi, changing the bluetooth stack & some newbie stuf - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hello all,
I have an XDA IIi from O2 UK, and I recently purchased a game called Quartz 2 from Elements Interactive BV; I bought two copies, one for my fiancee's P900 and one for my XDA IIi, as it has a multiplayer option that works over both TCP/IP and bluetooth. Or so they claim... I just could not get the game to play nicely with bluetooth, whenever I tried to join or host a game via bluetooth, it instantly failed, whereas it worked fine on the P900. So I emailed tech support to see what they had to say...
Unfortunately, Bluetooth isn't able to work properly on all windows
mobile devices.
This is because there are 2 "Bluetooth stacks" for windows mobile: one
of them is made by Microsoft and one of them is made by Broadcom. It
depends on the device which one is installed (only one of them can be
installed at the same time which is done by the manufacturer of your
product). Because of some licensing issues, we're only able to support
one of the stacks.
Your windows mobile device probably uses the Broadcom stack, the one
that isn't supported by the game. We're sorry to say this, but there
isn't much we can do about this (unless Broadcom change their licensing
terms). Your UIQ device however, is able to work properly because
Symbian doesn't have these issues.
I hope this clears it all up. If there are more questions, please let me
know.

My XDA IIi runs (according to the Bluetooth Settings/control panel) BT-PPC/PE Version 1.0.0 Build 3900, with the copyright notice belonging to Broadcom. Doh!
So, questions:
Is there any way to run the Microsoft bluetooth stack on the XDA IIi? If so, are there any problems created by doing so?
Does anybody know what the "licensing issues" are? I have emailed them to ask but had no reply as of yet.
And this may seem like a silly question, but the XDA IIi *is* an Alpine (which is an updated Himalaya?), right? Are the XDA III and XDA IIi distinct models? The HTC_Blueangel wiki page mentions a German XDA III, and the forum index mentions an XDA III in the Blue Angel forum description. I just want to be clear on this
In case it's any use, the Device Information control panel contains the following.
ROM version: 1.10.00 WWE
ROM date: 12/24/04
Radio version: 1.00.00
Protocol version: 1337.39 (my protocol is elite!)
ExtROM version: 1.10.124 WWE
Model No.: PH10C
Are there any updates I'm missing/should have installed?
Thanks!

No-one's replied as yet I see, so I'll be the bearer of bad news, citlee. You have the most up-to-date BT stack and ROM. Hopefully, we'll be getting a ROM update soon, but don't expect it to change from Broadcom anytime soon.
As far as naming's go, yes it's called an Alpine (even though xda-developers seem to want to call it a Andes). I don't think you can run a MS BT stack on your device either.
Sorry to be the one to tell you..,.
Kevin

Oh ... ... bugger
Thanks for replying, at least now I know I don't have to go hunting for updates and stuff.
So the device is an Alpine, but here it's referred to as an Andes, which is an updated Himalaya? How is it different from the Himalaya? Will software (on this site, that is, not in general, for doing things end users aren't supposed to) for the XDA II/Himalaya work on this device?
Also, do you have any idea if Windows Mobile 2005 will function on this device? Of course, prior to installing it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to see what the differences/(dis)advantages of 2005 over 2003SE are...

I'm sorry to tell you this but, Windows Mobile 2005 will not work on the XDAIIi, the upgrade of windows mobile was designed to work only with the ROM version of the himalaya. the ROM that the new XDA IIi has is different, so there is no upgrade for it now, I have one XDA IIi also, but do not worry about it becuase it will just take some time untill microsoft will force all the PDA companies to include its upgrade on their devices, it's been always like this.

Jorge

technology only ever make it if somebody decide to make people relate it with sex somehow
just think about vcr, internet .......
heck these days the 3g company called 3 run comercials which border on sugesting that their video phone could be used for advanced phoneSex
lol crazy old world
Hmmm, after reading the article I now understand 'toothing' is an abbreviation of BlueToothing, but the term sounds rather disgusting to anyone not familiar with the term :?
yeah sounds like something hanibal lector would consider foreplay
Slightly offtopic, but coming from this article I found two applications designated for Bluetooth Messaging/Chat, Bluechat and ProximityMail, both are non-working on my MDA-II
BlueChat seems to incorporate a hard-coded port, and ProximityMail says it can't find a Bluetooth Stack...
So, no proper toothing for me hahaha
Is there any toothing SW working with XDAII?
Have you tried BuZZone from Handango?
Or have you found anything working on your own?
Thanks!
Chris
BuZZone
By the way...
Hello Chris,
Yes, we plan to support Microsoft Bluetooth stack software in future versions. Your XDA II Bluetooth works with this software. Current BuZZone version supports only WIDCOMM's stacks on devices like HP iPAQ, Dell Axim, Asus, Fujitsu-Siemens, etc.
Kind Regards,
BuZZone Team

magneto for 2i?

any development on 2i???
What would happen if....
Hi,
I'm soon to receive an XDA IIi, and wonder what is the reason why one couldn't just stick WM 5.0 on it? What would happen, would it just refuse to boot up, or would it only not work 100%? Has anyone tried, or should I be the first guinea pig?
Thanks,
Truthiswithin
somebody tried it on a magic and it just said wrong model id something something
and would not even begin install
roms have to be 100% the same device in order to work so the leaked
himalaya beta 2005 rom cant work
Editing the Rom?
Thanks for the reply... but I don't quite get how this all works, couldn't you just modify the ROM to work with the Magician?
Would it make a difference that the XDA IIi is so much similar to the Himalaya? How do HP and Dell propose to offer upgrades for their machines? How will they modify the ROM, or will Microsoft do it for them?
Thanks again,
Truthiswithin
HTC gets the source from ms and include all the spcefic drivers and settings for their devices
then they pass on a basic rom to tmobile and o2 and all those critters
then they add all their stuff and release it
i've yet to see anybody porting a rom themselfs even though some people were looking into it back in the early xdaIIs days to try and get 2003SE to xda2 as far as i know they dident have any success
and xdaIIi just looks like xda2 they are not all that similar under the hood
with the wifi and the different cam and different cpu and .....

XDA II, BMW X5, Bluetooth, Faxing, Roms, OS

Hi
My partner purchased an XDAII recently. Her job required a converged device. As I am slightly more knowledgable on computers than her, she asked me to st it up. 3 weeks ago.
I have poured over this site & unfortunately have not come up wit hdefinitive answers for the problems. I was hoping somebody could point or advise me of the correct sequence & processes I should be following to commission the dice for her. here are the problems.
1. BMW on board phone system will not function. Device pairs ok but then continues to ask for phone to be activated.
2. Faxing. What is the best method or program to use for faxing using Telstra Mobile & the O2 in Australia ? I have downloaded mfaxce 1.8 trial.
3. What rom versions & OS versions should I be using in Australia?
4. Best method for installing software or transferring files between the o2 & a pc?
The XDA is currently running the latest rom according to O2 support in Australia. But they kind of mentioned 3rd party roms may be able to assist.
I have resorted to this post as I do believe my partner will leave me for a smarter man if I dont get it going. She is alos accusing me of neglect because I have spent so much time at night trying to get it going.
Any replies or any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers.
rom version 1.66.00WWe
Rom date 02/20/04
radio 1.08.00
protocol 1337.18
extRom ver 1.66.165
hardware
intel PXA263
400mhz
flash chip 28f128k3
model PH10B
version of MSPPC 4.20.0 build 13252
you can do a lot of things
first maybe update your xda2 i thing 1.72 rom and radio 1.17 will solve you a lot of problems i used that set up for a long time (check country and operator errors)
then try the files in o2 app pack in the uk it as a fax program inside
a sd card will and a card reader on the pc will be the most speedy way to transfer files to a desktop pc if you have a problem with activesync
and dont use outlook etc
XDA II and BMW
You should not expect an XDA will work with BMW bluetooth device: BMW works only with few selected phones (rather oldfashioned). I had the same problem so I contacted BMW and I got a list from them: only 6 devices - 3 Siemens (of course because it's German), 2 Nokias and 1 SonyEricsson. It seems that they never heard about something more modern.
There are actually quite a few phones which are working with BMW.
Other phones are working but have some issues.
others just dont work.

Jasjar - Does Bluetooth support Stereo

Does anyone know whether its possible for Stereo sound with the version of Bluetooth on the JasJar?
It has Bluetooth version 1.2, someone told me that Stereo was only supported in Bluetooth version 2.0.
However, after some investigation I now think that this is actually not version specific, but rather whether the OS supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). WM5 does support A2DP.
So, I think that it will actually work on the Jasjar, my question is, has anyone tried it and can confirm that it does work? WHat headsets are you using?
Sorry guys, currently bluetooth v1.1, not v1.2 as I stated earlier..
New ROM should be out soon for Universal that will allow this - it's currently in testing right now, but should be out before March.
So to answer your question: No, not yet, but soon.
That soon is six months now.......
We are waiting for Win CE update since forever. It has not chnaged since the phone started shipping (see the build numbers)
Only German roms seem to have been updated - but whats the use - we dont understand German.
Smile for buying a beta phone.
Naw.. last year they said it was coming in 2006. This year theyve been saying its coming in March since January. So as long as it really does come out in March theyll have kept to their word.
Any news? :/ i want some damn stereo
I thought that upgrading the radio stack to 1.0.6 (or I believe 1.0.8 is now available at Buzz's site) allowed you to use stereo Bluetooth? I'm sure I saw it in a thread here somewhere....
Edit: Sorry, must've been dreaming. Can't find anything that comes close to backing this up!
XXXXXXX,
Thank you for your email.
The new AKU-2 service pack released by Microsoft is currently being tested by o2, we currently have enough testers testing this service but thanks for your interest.
Unfortunately we have no timescales when this will be available to our customers, I would recommend periodically checking our XDA Exec website at http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html for more information.
If you have any further problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Many thanks

X01HT as a bluetooth modem?

Did (a little) searching and couldn't find anything definitive.
Is it possible to use the X01HT as a modem for my laptop over bluetooth or usb using the stock, post Dec.2 ROM from Softbank?
Device Info:
ROM version: 1.33.761.5
ROM date: 11/10/06
Radio version: 1.14.01.10
Protocol version 32.50.7018.00H
If it's not possible, is there anything I can do, like trying to burn a new ROM etc.?
Thanks very much!
Gigoguy the newb
Simply put, no.
The X01HT has a lot of features crippled by Softbank. One of it is bluetooth.
There is the Widcomm stack for Hermes development thread that possibly could fix the limitation, but its not finished yet. I have played with it, but not tired modem.

Is there any information about what Softbank has done to cripple this capability? Google has only shown me that other people are annoyed that it isn't working as a modem. I can't find much about why.
And another question - would burning a new ROM, WM6 or some such, make the X01HT function as a bluetooth modem?
It should...
