Are you serious? Do you know of ANY commercial camera that's able to mimic x-ray vision? :| :?

Nice imagination!!
I think that mobile operators would be sued to bankruptcy if users had the ability to use their camera phones to see through things - such as clothing

not to mention that the xrays would cause cancer
and xrays dont let you see through clothing
it let you see through flesh and anything not made of bone
software cant make a camera turn xray any more then a software update
cant turn the battery into a mini nuclear reactor

Absolutely true
However, I know of an early Sony digital camera which had a so-called 'nightvision'. It responded to heat and thus made things more visible in the dark.
When being used during daylight though, it made clothes 'semi-transparant'

I think impossible without modifying the camera hardware, in my country someone has succesly modify N3650 camera into x-ray camera that can use to see through things hehehe

NOT IMPOSSIBLE!
I remember last year, I saw it on 20/20 (or was it 60 Minutes?) they where showing a "special" undisclosed lens model that you can retro-fit on a Sony Handy Cam and it can be used in conjunction with Sony's Night Shot mode to actually see through just ONE layer of clothing!!!
They even demoed the setup and mentioned the moral and legal implications of this.
But this is not X-Ray vision, it's a special lens that amplifies the thermal signature of the body or something like that.... :?
But c'mon, the XDA2 camera simply SUCKS in "normal" mode, I can't imagine it doing a decent work in "see-through-video" mode...

G-Sensor emulated by camera

I thing that everybody wants to have a g-sensor in their mobile . I have one idea . Is there any chance to develop a driver or software that can emulate g-sensor by rear or front camera ? Camera can catch "move" maybe in the same way like a g-sensor... Please think about it ...
I believe it was at least done on the Kaiser. The only issue I can see [apart from shoddy accuracy!] is, imagine the battery life being eaten!
Still, I'd like to see it, because it's the only thing I really want on my KS20
Function can be assigned to a hardware button, so it will start only if you want and then safe your battery
Ive asked about this a couple time and really got no where. I do know that the instinct uses this feature for scrolling web pages up and down

Then why not have the hardware button rotate the screen?
I see your point. I'd prefer to just have it running in the background. Drop the accuracy of it, and we could keep battery drain to a minimum perhaps.

No it wouldn't, because as others have said the accuracy would be horrible.

but im sure that the great devlopers here could probably makes work better.
it makes me feel so bad not having a g-sensor.
today my friend was playing pocketgravity and he tried making things move by tilting my phone and it made me realize i need me a g-sensor.

Well, doesn't the game lack that feature or does it not need that implemented?
The thing is, there has to be a comprimise.
Get some serious accuracy, but to do that you'd need to sample a hell of a lot, thus killing battery life.
Or, sample less, less accuracy [but still good enough for screen rotation I'd wager], but less drain on your battery.

nope, someone just implemented it because it sounded like a good idea.
Will never work
Cameras have been used in the past for robotics and simply didnt work since they dont understand depth very well
What about combining the Camera and letting it work with the Infrared on the device? I know not all phones support both, but for the ones that do, its a step in the right direction.
External gsensor
Lets go back to the year 2000 where everything was external. remember the external camera on the sony ericssons? lets get an external gsensor
Maybe build in the battery like the fibration in the old Nokia 5100!
This thing must be possible.
I remember the game for Nokia phones, where you were controlling the ball in the maze. It was controlled by camera but it behaves like a g-sensor.
i dont know if this has been done but when you think about it many questions come to mind. first n foremost is depth. the softwares going to sense motion by motion in pictures from the cam. now if you have a white wall sufficiently lit and you shake your phone in front of it, hows a camera gonna judge motion from it? second, imagine a dot on the wall. now if ur close to it, theres gonna be alot more "motion" for the cam than if ur far away. i dont know the technicalities of the concept and if these problems will exist in a potential implementation, but, building on problems like these, i dont think its feasible or useful.
I think the theory behind it is fairly simple (and using the camera as a game input works as in Fishopolis http://rivia.net/Fishopolis.aspx Works on the Wizard). Take a pic A from camera at time x then take pic B from camera at time x + interval y then compare the two pics (get list of positions of same objects from both pix). If the objects in pic A are to the left of the same objects in pic B then you're moving right, left otherwise and a similar calc to determine up and down.
I think it is (actually know evidenced by the game previously mentioned) very doable and should take just as much battery power as using the video camera except for the storage since only a few images would need to be kept in memory at any one time and nothing needs to be stored on "disk".
Some matrix transformations and linear algerbra should do the trick... I'm sure someone has already done this in some form or another by now... Guess I'll see what I can dig up on the old internet.
why doesnt someone just work on internal accelerometers rather then trying to use the camera?

Is it possible for the camera to have a flash?

does the x1 have a flash for the camera, or am i just being dumb
????
thanks
X1 has a photolight (LED).
but can the photolight be made to act as a flash?

That's as good as it gets I'm afraid.
I totally agree the flash on this device is annoying. Lets hope they bring out an update to the camera app to fix this little fault.
I just cant help thinking if only Sony had talked to HTC a bit more and stuck a cybershot on this device would be so much better..

Aye, a k800i xenon flash and camera would've done wonders compared to the current camera. It's a shame such a high-end device has such poor image/video recording really.

Simulate G-Sensor using camera

Hi all, have somebody thought about simulating the accelerometer using the phone camera? It's possible?
I couldn't find anything about this, sorry, but i'd be really happy to know that there's someone coding something like this...
PS: sorry for my poor english
i dont see this happening at all... i mean a image is produced by using light... how would that information tell u which way or which angle the phone is on :S

Ok, but as the image moves the phone could know how am i moving it
Theoretically, it is possible. It would just be a huge battery sucker and not too accurate. I came across this game a long time ago, back when I still had my Titan (no accelerometer). It is called 3D Lawn Darts. It uses the camera to control your throws. Check it out:

It could work but only in a room covered with reference points all over the walls and floors like they use in 3D capture! LOL
I think the phone proccessor would choke on the proccessing! lol
there's a free app (i think) called CCSnake. Search for it. If you can't find it. Then search for Camera Controlled Snake. I tried it but the controls are not that good.

well not really.
Camera take as picture, then asks the user to set a referance point. somthing that stands out. It takes detaisl of that area (color shape, etc)
all further images are taken and referanced to that point. and the program then knows which way the PPC was turned. if you want rotaion then you just need two points.
For all movements just 3 referance points are needed.
This is very basic movemnets and your limited to the area you are in as the camera must see the original points. but it would work.
i saerched for this a long time and tought: maybe you can do it with an other part of the phone.
or maybe you can make a program to use this as a normal g-sensor with new accelerometer software.
erik
There was a game that I had on my old Motorola E815 that did just this. I think it was like a marble tilt game...it worked fairly well as long as you didn't move too fast and it wasn't too dark (or light for that matter, as the camera on the E815 was really mediocre).

[Q] Poor performance on Streak Unlocked?

Hi guys,
Can you please let me know if it's normal to have only a 777 score on Quadrant with Froyo 2.2 on Dell Streak?
I've just got the phone and haven't done anything to it until now.
What are the main things I should look after to improve performance, launchers...and so on?
Is there an easy guide on how to root it? Can I get back to stock if I want to return it to warranty?
Thanks for helping a noob fellow on Dell Streak. I was using HD2 until now and moved to Streak...but i'm a bit dissapointed.
777...thts around how much u r gonna get on the official 2.2....when i was on it it used to avg around 850...
what u can do is either use the performance fix found in this forum( actually go to streak android development)...just scroll down..ull find a thread titled 2.2 performance fix....and install it based on whichever baseband u r on...
or else u cud try going to steve's 1.5.1 version, instructions for which can also be found in this forum...
and obviously u can get it back to stock config whenevr u want if u ever need to do tht for warranty reasons...

Is there also a camera fix? It does extremely bad pictures in low-light. Even the HD2 I had with android did better pictures. Or perhaps another camera app?
thanks a lot mate.

well there is no such camera fix...i have to agree, streak doesnt have the best 5 megapixel camera...sometimes my 3.5 mp cam on my 5800 outperforms it in low light conditions...
there are some camera apps....i have only used 1 so far...called as camera 360...u can find it on the market...u can add lots of effects to photos..u can chk it out...
DO you mind taking a picture in a completely dark room and share with me? mines have a green tint on them as if they were taken with a night vision camera. Many thanks in advance mate!
Will try doing later..am out at the momemt..

well more than getting a night vision kinda photo my photos show nuthin....the flash is too weak to capture an entire room space...
results are better if u have an object a few feet away...
and also the green comes if the autofocus hasnt happened properly....atleast for me....
will post pics later if u want...
well, streaks definitely not a substitute for a digital camera especially in low light and dark conditions...
but then, thts not the reason why I ( and I am sure several others) bought it,,

Wildfire Camera Problem

I have a problem with camera ... My pictures is so ugly . It's like a 2mp camera . What can i do ?
All settings are on high , it's on 5MP in settings ... I don't know what to do . Please help .
Are you rooted yet? Some custom roms have a few tweaks to the camera settings but without s-off (i think) and root, you won't be able to use them and are stuck with either stock camera or an app from the market.

Plus, pics viewed on your phone from your phone always look shabby but should look better when viewed and a larger screen resolution i.e on your p.c

I don't root anything ... Give me a tutorial with that tweaks and with root and s-off that ... I mod iPhone not android ... About android i don't know anything .

Solution
I've seen a whole lot of HTC Wildfires with the same problem (I work as a cell phones dealer), and virtually ALL OF THEM had the same cause of that problem, and that is: scratched lenses. But, don't panic. You can solve this for free. The tools for solving this are most probably in your toilet. Don't do any rooting or something else that can be hazardous to your phone before you try this:
1. Take some of the tooth paste using a tooth pick and put it on the lens of your phone. (tooth paste is incredibly good for a glass polishing)
2. Take a toilet paper and polish the lens with it.
3. That's it.
It may seem funny but I'm not kidding you, this thing works. Even though lens may seem like they are not scratched, but there actually are a lot of little scratches that are extremely hard to notice.
