I can only seem to choose the windows default sounds in the dropdown list on my O2 XDA IIi.
What am I not doing right?
There are numerous posts already on this subject, it may be worth you doing a search for them...no point starting a new topic.

Hi,
Am running a T-Mobile Compact 2 with WM5 and Spb Pocket Plus installed.
I would like to have a desktop icon that links direct with bluetooth on the device. I have been advised to find a bluetooth.exe file and create a shortcut. I have looked and cannot find the file or anything that looks like it. Does anyone have any idea where I should look and what the file will look like.
Yes I have toggled file explorer to show all files and yes I have searched dilligently through the whole damn list looking for a bluetooth icon. I have also used windows explorer, when synced, but with no success.

yep.... wrong forum!!!
Please forgive my ignorance, would you tell me which forum I should post my query on?
I must be honest I assumed that a forum about my device would be the right place to post.
Will
actually since there is no dedicated Charmer forum, the majority post in the Magician forum
there is a program to add a bluetooth icon to the system tray, clicking it takes you straight to bluetooth settings but i cant bloody find it again! sure its on modaco somewhere!!! will have another look when ive got time for you
Dave,
Thanks for your post. I know Modaco. I'll start searching. If I find the program i'll put a link here.
I've used this Forum a few times now and responses have been minimal so it's a real pleasure to get some help. I also didn't know my device is a Charmer not a Magician, thanks again. (My girlfriend thinks it's apt).
Will.
Here are three different ways of adding a bluetooth / wireless toggle to your today screen.
The first is a link to a registry hack
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=248198&hl=
The second is a CAB file smartphones
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=247482&hl=
and the third is a CAB file for PPC's (it worked on my Charmer / T-Mobile compact 2)
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=99493&hl=
Hope these work for people.
Will.
if anyone can answer any of my Questions that would be very helpful.
i just got a refurb cingular 8525
how can i put java/macromedia on my phone so i can watch youtube videos and play java games?
how do i set text message ring tones?
how can i get AIM back on my phone?
how can i ge WM6 and what version do i get and where do i get it and how do i install it?
anyone know any cool free programs/software i can get for it?
Please don't start three different threads for the same question. I've removed the other two.
You need to show some effort here before you ask any questions. Please do some research and read through the forums before posting questions that have been answered hundreds of times (no exaggeration).
The nature of this forum is such that it is expected that users do their homework first. Then, if help is still needed, just ask. There are many knowledgeable and friendly people that would be happy to help.
First step, visit is the WIKI. Read through it and follow all the links.
Second, visit the WIKI again. Read though it and follow all the links.
Third, use the search feature at the top of the page and you'll find many more answers waiting for you. Another great idea is using Google to search the site. It can, often times, give more relevant answers.
At any rate, please take your time and do all the research you can.
Good luck!
1. There is a Macromedia Flash release (v. 6 or v. 7) for your phone. You will either need the HTC Streaming Media app or Opera Mobile in order to play YouTube videos. Do a search.
2. Text messages--Go to settings, and under the "personal" tab, click on "sounds and notification"--Go to "notifications" tab, and select SMS under event and assign your ringtone.
3. I am using the "Black Satin" version of WM6.
4. For all others, please do a search. I have IM+ installed which takes care of AIM among other chat services. It's a paid-for program. There's also Agile.

Have you tried to use the search function?
/flame ON
I second that. You know, I think the mods should start telling people to use search in the e-mail that you get after they sign up
I agree that the search function should be used, but sometimes, the answer just can't be found using it. For instance, the thread I posted in the general unlocking forum ... I STILL can't find the answer in the Wiki, but I was blown off because "it's in the wiki". Yeah, they should search, but if they say they searched and couldn't find anything, and show they tried, then lay off.
/flame OFF
Did those of you who posted 'use the search' also use the search before typing 'use the search'? I must say, 'use the search' has been said here a lot and we all get sick of n00bs saying it.
Another hint for any n00bs who want to say 'use the search' for people asking for help would be that part of the reason the search function here sucks so bad is the extraneous messages, and I think we can consider 'use the search' type of messages to be extraneous.
As for the original question, I've never seen anything that answers your specific question asked or answered here before, so you have asked a good question. I don't have the answer but maybe someone can point you in the right direction, or you can find an appropriate thread to post your question to (recommended).

If you mean something that is available as it is for the wizard (Vario I) then no. At the moment I have a Vario I and a Vario II. On both of them I'm using iContacts (iPhonish way to scroll through your contacts). On the Vario I I'm running DrDot's ROM which has TouchFlo "the cube" (it's a prism actually) installed. Works like a charm!
For the Hermes (Vario II) there's no ROM yet if I'm not mistaken. There is however a "ButtonFlo" version of TouchFlo available. For now it only works via hardware input instead of using the touchscreen. It's just a .cab, you should be able to find it on this hermes section using the search function. the DrDot (not for the Hermes!) and iContacts can also be found on this forum. Good luck!

TouchFLO doesn't work properly at all on the HERMES, so you won't have to worry about flashing.
Oh yeah, next time search for your answer first. (read my signature regarding search for a bit more help)
Is there any place that tells me what all the different . CAB files do? I am very new to all this and will have a my Wing here tmrw and would like to customize it some. I have read through the noob guide and all that and feel I can do a ROM upgrade by following the instructions, but I just dont know what all the different .CAB files do.
Where are you getting them? If you're getting them from here there's usually a description in the thread they're posted in.
I just read the whole post "JUST .cab FILES FOR THE HTC TMO WING. ALL IN ONE PLACE" and it answered a few of them but it would be helpful to have a description by each one.
Gotcha, yeah, that's thread's a bit of a mess. I don't think a new thread about it is going to get much more response than all the replies about the same problem in the original thread though...... but yeah, it would be nice.
maybe as i get more familier with my phone and modding it i can whipe together a .cad dictionary or somethihng
Yeah. It would also be nice to have at least a screen shot of the app with each post... but I understand why people don't do it. They're already going out of their way and it takes time.
I dont understand what you're getting confuse with.... post the names of some of the cabs that confuse you and I or someone else will answer what they are.

RC Mod: changes the colors used in the 'Today' screen and 'Start' menu.
I don't remember what btasp.cab is.
Paticakeman, here's one thing that helps half the time: If you open the CAB file with WinRAR you'll find a xml file named _setup.xml. This contains the installer's title of the package. Sometimes it'll have the developer's URL or at least a full app name you can search will and get better results. Of course you still need to D/L the CABs first.
btasp.cab: (this doesn't say much to me) and yes, I've searched a lot for this and the makers' site is now gone.
Description inside the cab: "TrianglePowers.com BlueTooth Audio"
And this is what all the D/L sites list as the description: "Desire to listen to your harmony stored on your Small PC but don't desire to carry around a corded headset. If you've got a BlueTooth headset then you're in good fortune."
So I still have NO idea...
Another would be the HTC Audio Manager I see in many threads, what is this? Is it an EQ? A hardware manager for the sound system? Or is it perhaps a playlist editor? I have searched for info about this and I must be using the wrong terms because I come up empty.
Hello,
Forgive me if this has been asked before, I've done a search and haven't come up with an answer.
I'm looking to start making my own sliders and icon sets, can anyone point me in the right direction where I might find out how to do this? (i.e. how to make cab files)
Many thanks.

I'm not a developer or WM skin designer/ROM chef, but I think your question is a little like asking "how do I strike the bottle of Champagne exactly right when I build my first ship and launch it?".
In other words the cab file is the end of the process, the final delivery system for installation by multiple users. I would imagine that a good start would be to have created your sliders and icon sets, understanding of course where the files/icons go on the target system, that they all work properly, tested by friends, which systems are supported is known/documented, etc, etc.
Then you want to put these finished and tested files into a cab file for re-use and/or distribution to others. I'm sure there are some good tutorials (Google is your friend) out there on creating Windows Mobile cab files, when you're at that stage.
Also for general development/app questions a more generic XDA forum like this would be a better place to start.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=523
Always remember that search boxes (Google on the outside, forum search in here) are good things to become proficient at - especially if your goal is learning some new skill.

I use WinCE Cab manager, since it seems to be the best out there. It allows you to package files, registry settings, etc., and has an easy wizard for people who don't know how to use the program. It has a 30 day free trial, and after that, it's $99, but it's worth it if you regularly make and modify CAB files.
Otherwise, if you don't want to buy that, Extendir Cabs is alright for basic CAB file needs. It doesn't do all the comprehensive stuff that Wince Cab manager does, and it isn't as easy to use, but it gets the job done.
Personal favorite for me is QuickCab. Requires zero intellect to figure out how to use it.

I second QuickCab. Only rule is that if the cab is registry values only then you need to add a file (even if it's empty) since it's a requirement. If you're just doing registry values then try this: http://www.fuzemobility.com/make-a-customized-cab-for-your-registry-tweaks/
