I have a XDA II with 2k3 which is getting connected to GPRS Internet. I have also configured my HTC modem in XP.
Could someone help me with the USB modem dialer so that I can get onto Internet from my laptop thru HTC modem GPRS? It should ask for username, password and APN.

For those, who want to connect via BT stack. Yes it is not so clear about the APN,but this will connect via your default internet connection, that you're using on the go(The APN is described there):
1.Pair your Himalaya with a PC.
2.Start the Wireless Modem app.and choose Bluetooth. Then tap to Start button. Your device must be in Discoverable mode!
3.Now in computer click to the 'My Bluetooth Places' icon on the desktop.
4.Open the connected Himalaya and click to the SSA service.
5.Now the connection window will appeared. Choose the *99# as a dialed number and click to Dial.
That's it.
Has anyone else had this problem.
I am trying to set up wireless modem working with my laptop and my M5000. I've followed instructions by disabling activsync and incoming beams but I can not even get as far as installing drivers when I hit "START" on wmodem I get "COM OPEN ERROR" and it stops me getting any further.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Hey i had this problem in the beginning also.
don't know for shure but try first to disable GPRS and WLAN.
1. disable USB connection in active sync on your computer.
2. start USB modem app and press start
3. connect usb cable
4. install drivers
5. start USB_modem.exe to connect. (no username or password needed)
Something has changed now. I have stoped my GPS bluetooth from using serial port (although it wasn't running at the time). Now I can install drivers and I've set up modem as per instructions in earlier thread. Now I start WModem and plug USB in with no active sync and nothing happens. window says connecting but nothing actually connects and status does'nt change. latter this connection after about 3 mins will time out with communication error 777.
Any more ideas would be appreciated.
sorry dude can't help you out. don't know what went wrong. Try to disconnect everything and try again.
Hi there to all of you can anybody provide me with the driver for wireless modem and along with that the wireless modem ( preferably in cab file ) for application also as i have activated my edge service but not being able to connect to the laptop any kind of help will be appreciated .
Thanx .
Hello,
You need two files. USB modem dialer and a driver. Then you start wireless modem in your device, connect usb and when found new hardware prompt apperas, go through the settings and point to the driver file. That would do.
If you want to have a more complete guide, and the files too, just get into my site' forum, Tips & Tricks section where i have written a topic called GPRS on you Notebook. Check it out.

Cixi,
I had the same request and was actually coming back to my original post to update it with the information that i got from O2 and finally I managed to set up for oth a USB modem connection and a USB one. I have attached the USB Modem driver but saved as a .txt file so you will have to open it in note pad and rename it as a .INF file (can also be found on the companion CD that shipped with your Atom) to this post (if uploading allows).
Below are the detailed instructions from O2 to set up a USB connection.
Regards
Chris.

Here are the O2 instructions with pictures for the USB Modem
you so funny!

And as Kropotov points out, he was very helpful in assisting me on the previous post that he references above and that i was coming back to update prior to seeing your post.
Attached is the set up instructions for BT Modem link.
Diffence is that with USB modem the connection is of course faster than BT. Also your phone can still accept phone calls while your using the USB modem link but go straight to your Voice mail if your using the BT modem connection.
Thank You All.
Do you think it will work with MacBook Pro too?
I left the Atom at home and now I'm around so I can't try your settings in windoz but as soon as I get back I try them so I can tell you more.
I prefer BT communications since I can swap between PC and MAC easly
Thank You anyway great persons here.
Any idea on how could I achive this with SuSe Linux 10 running KDE?

Hi, you don't need to install anything, just plug your atom via usb cable and run internet sharing application, tap connect then it should be a usb modem.
How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet
How about Atom Exec as modem to connect my laptop to internet by using Vista
any idea?
Why All That?
Read first post and was thinking why you need to connect your Atom Life as modem with manual setting while its just one click away
Assuming A) you have GPRS connection and phone data settings are working as told by GSM provider, you can browse on your phone.
Assuming B) On your pc/laptop you must have installed either ActiveSync 4.2 (WinXP) or later or Mobile_Device_Centre in any version of Vista and you are able to connect your phone to pc. NO NEED TO DISABLE, KEEP THEM WORKING.
If you are ready with above two things, just do one following step.
Step 1) Start >> Programms >> Internet Sharing >> Connect. THATS ALL, YOU ARE ALREADY BROWSING ON YOUR PC.
Only two options are seen in INTERNET SHARING, first to select is USB and second is your GPRS connection profile.
Someone please tell me why all those manual things are required, just for browsing on pc/laptop.
thanks
thank you very much!
i want to use my gprs to connect to internet on my desktop pc..i dont have bluetooth or ir just usb cable and avtivesync installed...i used wireless modem application on my device and it gave some sort of com error..i searched a lot but couldnt find anything...immediate help is required
thx in advance
you need to open Wireless modem from programs menu, select usb and press start before connecting to the usb cable, after that it will detect your phone as a modem, then use the modem driver provided in your cd to install. after installing you need to create a dialup connection and dial *99#. you will get a complete tutorial with pictures from the docs folder in your imate jam cd. it is a pdf file.
