I'm sure this is a stupid question and that someone will tell me so, but why would I want to maintain a GPRS connection when I go into standby? What would be sent/received?
you could use it to stray online with messenger all the time
Wouldn't that require that I respond to messages occasionally and wouldn't that in turn require that the PDA is not in standby? Maybe I'm using terms too losely here. I mean the mode the PDA enters when you press the power button or leave your PDA inactive for extended periods of time. The mode that on a QTek 9090 is called the power state Standby (in the registry), where everything is put into state D3 except miniports which are put into state D4.

Hi guys,
I just buy the i-mate Jam and I don't understand how to use the "power button" on the up right side of the Jam...
If I push the button the screen turns off but the phone is dtill running...
If I still press the button the screen light turns off ...
Sorry but in the Italian manual there isn't a lot info about it...
I'd like to turn off both phone and pda in the night, for example, to don't receive any notification when I'm sleeping! When I turn on the device on the morning, for example, I'd like to receive the notification of the lost reminder if there was.....
Is it possible in a simple way?
Dear Markino,
to turn off the transmision, Tap on the Newtwork Meter "Icon" (on the top of the screen, beside the Speaker Icon), then Tap on "Turn on flight mode".
enjoy it.
Yhea! But... to turn off the pda? (no notification!)
I couldnt get your point? please clarify.
What you exactly want from the following :-
1) Turn off the screen.
2) Turn off the transmission (Similar to turning off the Mobile phones).
3) turn off transmission and screen.
Which one from the above you want?

You'll have to slide open and then close the battery cover. There is no other way to turn off the device. Period.
Hope that helps.
You cannot turn off a pocket PC as you lose everything on it. Read the manual its all in there. That's why there is a second battery which gives you 72 hours after you expire your main battery. It will keep your information safe until you can charge the main battery again.
I seriously think you need to read the manual!
the second (backup) battery only lasts 15-30 mins its purely for saving data while inserting sims or changing batteries. the 72 hour figure comes from the main battery which when flat enough for the ppc to turn off will hold data for 72 hours, so that data is not lost over a weekend for example (hence the 72 hours)

Anyone pls advise how can i keep the wifi on and connected even it turns to standby mode by itself after a while.
THe purpose of keeping it on is i would like to keep my Messenger connected throughout the night without missing any important messages.
I have tried using GPRS to serve, however, after a few hours, the Messenger will cut off automatically, ( so is Agilemessenger)
Anyone can help, pls???
Mark
msn will automatically log you out after a period of activity anyway - especially on my laptop. but if u go into the power settings and untick the box that says "put into standby after ____ mins" then that mite work i dunno
Can anyone explain why my wifi connection is dropped when I put my phone into standby mode. This does not happen when I am using GPRS?
If the battery was not so crap I would not need to keep putting it into standby mode.
I guess its because when the device is in standby all the PDA functions are stopped, but the phone functions are not. GPRS is connected via the phone line which is active in standby mode thus it does not drop.
This does not sound out of the ordinary to me.
thanks for confirming my fears. So does anybody know how you can use this device for 8 hours (working day) with wifi switched on? I normally leave it logged into IM when I am at home and do not want to leave it charing all the time.
Try Start-Settings-System-Power-Advanced and untick the battery Power Timer.
Dave,
Agile is clever enough not to power off the device but and all that happens is the screen dims. I am trying to put the device in to standby but leave wifi on along with running agile messenger but this does not seem to be possible. The reason for this is to prolong the battery life by not having the screen on as wifi zaps my juice so much more than GPRS.
It is however possible when using GPRS as the phone function works when it is in standby.

i needed to do this on my dell axim too, used a program called screenlock which kills the display and locks the buttons. you press 2 buttons to wake the system. Wifi and other apps continue running.
my post http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showpost.php?p=840747&postcount=2
the app

be careful, if you cant work out which hardware buttons its using, you'll have to soft reset your device (if it works at all, i've not tested on wizard)
let me know if it does what you want
just tested and it appears to use messaging and voice speed dial as its 2 buttons
Thanks I will test it asap
can someone please show me how to shutdown my phone completely when I dun need it. to save battery. event when I turn off everything on COM Manager, (radio,wifi,BT...everything...).but my battery still droped. thanks. i wonder what eat my battery when everythis is off.
Your PDA is never realy off. As long as the battery is in there, and it has power... it will run. When you press the "Off" button, the device goes into some sort of stand-by mode.
I don't know the technical reason for this, but what's the use of a Personal Digital Assistant if it can't warn you of appointments and such It has to be able to wake itself (Same goes for the phone)
Is there a trick for mantain the wifi connection always on?
Because if i switch off the phone i loose my connection and the p3600 use the gprs connection for recieve the mail in background.
Thank you
That would kill your batteries very quickly...

Yes it would. When I'm at home I plug in my Trinity into the charger, which makes it stay on. I have the phone set to stay on while charging. This way I can have my wifi connected continuously and save on my 3G data usage.
I think when in standby the phone doesn't connect to data, it wakes itself up does the email check etc., then goes back into standby according to your power standby settings.
I've noticed that when using Wififofum, it still detects new wifi access points even when it's in standby.I don't know if it's really in standby, but at least the screen is off and i need to press Power button to see what it has found.
