I have a small problem gays using Jam + WIFI SD + Skype!!!
I started with basic installation of Skype into SD + internet via same SD with WIFI. The result was very sad, internal calls in Skype network were fine, but during external ones (Skype Out) I could hear my opponent first 5 sec with terrible sound quality, then my Jam simply hang – I had to do soft reset :x .
After some experiments I realised that the main problem is the speed of data transaction, as well as it takes some processor power to transform analog voice in to digital and vice versa. My future installation of Skype I made into main memory and upscale processor speed up to 520. (This is the maximum power I can provide for given application After that, my JAM was not hanging anymore :? , but still the quality was too bad – dilate in voice transaction, every 5 sec I am loosing sound or getting only parts of words. The LOG check of processor speed during conversation showed 100% of activity most of the time. My idea about that situation is presence of processor power leaking because of SD WIFI usage. For example Skype Out was working fine via USB connection, no CPU up scaling, installation in SD memory. :?:
Will really appreciate if someone will share their opinion + experience according current situation.
I have no solution but I can verify your experiences. But for me even normal skype calls do not work well. Very garbled conversations.
But I haven't been able to oc my processor. I tried Hackmaster but that didn't work really well. What are you using?
Hi, I have been using Skype on a Jam for a while with no real problems other than the odd system hang etc.
It's running over a bluetooth connection (using the Bluesoleil BT stack and a Dlink BT Access point) and although I haven't used SkypeOut the sound is good.
Cheers,
Martin

Hi,
has anybody test this combination? it doesn't work very well. The lag (ping) is very high i think about 1s and longer when i phone to a friend. When i use it over active sync cable it works well, same when i use bluetooth AS. I use the last version of the socket driver. Has anybody a idea?
Thx Snappy
Please, can you explain me HOW you use SKYPE with activesync cable?
Do you have SKYPE in magician and when is connected via USB you can talk without problem?
Unfortunately I cannot help you , don't have socket Wlan...
Thank you
I have had similar problems
skype to skype is bad, skype I asuume is ****ty then also. Maybe it is the ram??
I have a very similar setup running: MDA Compact, Sandisk wifi and newest Skype for PocketPC. Indeed, the time delay is in the order of a second. When connected via the USB cable to my laptop, which also connects to my DSL via wifi, the delay is much less.
I suspect the problem is that the CPU on the Magician is a bit too slow. It is fast enough to run Skype itself, but not quite fast enough to run Skype + wifi device driver + WEP encryption.
At my office where the wifi is not encryptet, PocketPC Skype over wifi indeed seems to have a bit less delay.
I think we just have to pray that the Skype developers manage to optimize their code a bit
So fed up with Skype on Pocket PC..
I found a new one, just as cheap, will use this for Pocket PC, Stansphone.com, and Skype for PC. The thing about Skype is Skype-to Skype uses less processor power than SkypeOut, which explains why Skype out on a PPC is a disaster
Just downloaded the demo now, this comes with a free NY phone number for calling in too. Not bad, now let's see if the call quality is any good.
Stanaphone.com
don't bother, stick to Skype. sorry
Having installed SJPhone 3.20b for Windows Mobile 5.0 (download from: http://www.sjphone.org/preview/ce/) I experienced very choppy inbound audio.
The solution is changing SJPhone's advanced audio settings as follows:
buffer size: 80 ms
input queue length: 10
output queue length: 5
RTP jitter queue length: 5
Audio quality through WLAN is quite okay now. As soon I'm in a place with 3G coverage I'll try to place a VoIP call over 3G, if O2 Germany hasn't blocked VoIP ports yet.
I am getting better resutls with these settings:
Driver buffer size, msec: 100
Driver input queue length: 10
Driver output queue length: 10
RTP jitter queue length: 32
Btw, x-lite ce 1.01 has better quality than SJphone, at least on my TyTN, download here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58154
Also, calls must be done using the USB headset otherwise you get horrybly echo.
I do have the sound coming from the rear speaker...is that what you have?
Further, the sound with SJphone is absolutely horrible...whatever the audio settings....
I tried X-lite..gives same effects...
It s really unusable.
When I call the same correspondant with my PC, it s seemless..
Any clues?
Thx
use the usb headset
No sound...
Hi. I am using HTC X01HT (Softbank) which is supposed to be equivalent to TyTN. I installed SJphone but for some reason no sound is coming. Seemingly, even though I don't hear any sound, the recipient phone is normally ringing. Of course, even if the recipient picks up the phone, still silence on both sides. Any solution? Thank you in advance.
Check your SIP and NAT settings. You'll have problems if your internet connection or the voip server you are connecting to are behind a NAT.
You should use a STUN-server!
@Poof
Hi Poof,
Sorry for the trivial question but I geuss that answer isn't that obvious as it seems. YOu've mentioned that you're using X-Lite with some specific settings. I've downloaded the software using the link you had provided. I did manage to specify the SIP proxy and other SIP related settings during the first run of X-Light.
My question is: HOW DO YOU CHANGE OTHER SETTINGS? In case I need to change SIP IP HOW DO I DO THAT? I didn't succeed with finding searate file responsible for configuration nor I cold find settings changes option in the application itself.
I'd appreciate if you could advice me on these mattares.
TyTN and SJPhone
Hi,
I get horrible sound delays with SJPhone + TyTN. I tried all the settings from this forum and many others and although the sound quality seems OK (I didn't see any significant improvement because of the USB headsed) the delay is 2 to 3 times bigger (up to 1.5-2 s) than on my Wizard.
Please let me know if the above mentioned settings don't give you any delay. If there's no delay, could you please let me know the ROM (and any possible improvements) that you're using?
Please follow this thread also for news:
http://forum.labs.softjoys.com/viewtopic.php?t=409&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20
As for the X-Lite application - I get also delays and bad sound quality. As for its interface - it makes you go nuts, and even more. I never managed to find out how to change the settings for one SIP-account. (through the registry ? this is a joke, right?) Even the PC version is made as if that guy wanted to make a patience testing quiz, not a softphone.
Thank you all.
USB headset
It seems it has something to do wih the USB headset. If I use it - SJPhone gets stuck. If I don't use it - SJPhone runs fine and even the sound quality is acceptable

You can change the settings in the X-Lite app by dialing *311 and *611, these take you to the settings pages. I have however not been able to connect to the network in any way, perhaps you can shed light on the right settings, pof? I am using a voipstunt account, but I have no idea what settings I should use to get a connection to the internet. I have entered the voipstunt settings I found on their website and my account data, but for some reason the app wil not connect.
edit: For some reason when dialing a fixed line phone numer, the Caller is is displayed on the screen as the whole phone numer followed by @voipstunt.com, e.g [email protected]. It looks like the app is trying to reach a voipstunt subsciber instead of a fixed line. How did you get this to work pof? The app keeps trying for a while and then reports Call failed: 480, temporarily not available.
edit 2: Duh, I really have to learn to try more before I post here. I think that by editting the right options and using it over 3G instead of AS I have been able to connect. I cannot try any calls however, none of my contacts with fixed lines appears to be home at the moment (Or they are refusing my calls, also a likely possibility)
Really annoying though is that the app does not sound the waiting tone when it is calling a no., so you have no idea wether or not it is dialing or the connection is just not being made.
I've just installed the latest sjphone beta for ce, to use with fwd. I can't find where to change the advanced audio options. In fact the only audio control I can find is the audio wizard. Can anyoine help me.
In addition my usb headphones long since stopped working, would sound and mic be better with a bluetooth headset (in my case the itech r35) or through the phone itself?
Currently audio is unuseable using the phone, and apparently not working at all with the bluetooth headset.
Your assistance appreciated.

Problems loading to storage card
I have uninstalled v2.1 & tried to re-install this version. Keep getting an error that it will not install & to try another location (ie main memory).
Tried a soft re-set. Still no joy.
Anyone else managed to install on a memory card?
I have it on the memory card as it is around 5.5MB's

Have the same problem...
Tried to install to memory card and main memory and always the same " try another location "
Update: removed all registry keys from previous skype version, soft reset, and then installed without problems.
Any news of Skype using the TYTN front Cam?
Have used the new version 2.2 today and it's nice but don't think it works with webcam yet.
Has anyone heard if Skye will produce a version that enables the front cam on tytn for video calls?

Hello,
Did you also get that message :"could not start Skype" then "couldn't find all the necessary files to start Skype. Please try to install Skype again. Skype will now quit."
If yes how did you remove all registry keys from previous Skype version ?
If it's not the case, anyone has any idea where the problem comes from ? The skype version is 2.2.00.20 (might be that there are some parts missing in it ?)

How is the lag time on GPRS or EDGE networks? Is it worth installing if you're rarely around a wifi point?
I installed it and it worked fine. Was amazed as the original needed a 300mhz processor and ofc ours only have 200.
Went straight on, and works identical to Skype on my computer.
Just need to convince work to buy a wireless network and I will be laughing
The version is 2.2.0.20 and I just installed it off the skype website.
It was working fine for me before over GPRS now it won't connect for some reason.
It works for me!
I've installed "lowCPU" version on my Qtek 9100 SD card.
It starts fine, it works fine.
Seems to be much faster and/or better custommized then non "lowCPU" 2.1 version.
Certainly feels a little more developed than my previous version of Skype. Call quality seems to have increased. I like the Skype Today plugin also.
aww... if theres any kind of upgrade for lowCPU ppc's for VoIP programs like X-lite so i can use my VoIPstunt account...
Cool! works on my wizard.
How can I get it to route the sound through my earpiece, or my bluetooth headset, instead of going to the speakerphone? It echos badly on speakerphone, and everyone else can hear my conversations.

Speakerphone???
Hi to all,
it works very well on echo123, since there are no echo cancellation issues, however in the real world the external loudspeaker=echo is simply a disaster...any suggestions on the use of the internal loudspeaker as in a normal telephone?

they are still working on fixing that, as of now that version only works with the external speaker.
Hi,
I've just installed this skype on my Qtek 9100, all seems to work great but I cant hear anyone.
They can hear me fine but I hear nothing.
Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong?
how much does it tax the CPU?
I noticed they have different versions of the same beta for different models.
The Hermes and the Universal are redirected to this page (High BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_high_beta.html
while the Wizard is directed to this page (Low BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_low_beta.html
Both bpages display the same version numbers and release dates. Infact unless you look at the URL you can't even tell it's a different file.
I tried downloading both. The Low CPU version is only 4.50 MB and teh High CPU version is 4.85 MB.
I keep wondering now if there is anything missing in the Low CPU version.
Can anybody shed some light on this???
Hi
Simple Question I think,
I have a Wizard running very well at 286Mhz on WM6
I have the option to Upgrade to a Tytn/Hermes.
I Love to mess about with my phone.
Should I upgrade to the Hermes?
Other than the obvios 3G and Video Call is it a lot faster/better than a well sorted Wizard?
Thanks for your time
Jules
I've noticed a huge increase in speed when multitasking. While driving around and using GPS, for example, Voice Command and call answering speed have greatly increased (my Wizard was o/c'ed to 240).
I was running tomtom6 the other day while listening to an audio book and the phone rang...something like this might mean a dropped call with my Wizard, but I didn't have any issues with the 8525.
The one downside that I've found is that the 8525 (not sure if all Hermes are set up this way) can't have a data connection while the phone is in use.

Yes you can, you just have to be a on 3g network. I do this all the time with my 8525.

I'm almost always in a 3G area when this happens.
Here's an example of my experience;
When I first got my TyTN I connected to my desktop via USB and enabled the modem connection. I then disabled my LAN connection and started playing Counter Strike Source. I was able to play jsu fine with a ping around 60. I then called my friend (while I was still playing) to tell him about this. My ping went to 100 and it was still very playable and there was no skipping. In fact my score was about 10-3 while doing this =)
So in short, data and voice works at the same time quite well. It also works on the device as I get e-mails on a regular basis while eon a phone call.
Later, Lew
ZaJules - you are looking at it from a wrong approach. Since you have been playing with unofficial release of WM6 and overclocked your device, it looks like you are also infected with the same madness as some of us here. It is called The Freak sympthom. Unfortunatelly there ain't no cure available. I have been in the same situation so many times and always found some excuses why I should spend money and upgrade. This is a newer device with new features. You definetly should have it!
So as an Ex Wizard owner I can answer my own question
I took the plunge and upgraded to the Hermes (HTC TyTn)
Off the bat I was pleased to see a major speed boost in general UI related tasks.
Also noticed that the speaker on the back of the Hermes is way louder than the 2 on the wizard. On more than a few occasions I near fell of my chair when the sexy bird bellowed "Master I have mail for you"
I have had to re profile my Phone Alarm settings by dropping the volume by 50%
Also Bluetooth is even better on the TyTn. My SE IV-835 headset seems louder than before. On the Wizard each time I would answer a call the calling party would complain about an ear piercing screech coming from my side as I pressed the call answer button on the headset. That is also gone now.
The only negative aspects of my upgrade are.
I had to get yet another type of memory card and the OS is not as stable as what I was used to on the wizard.
This is where the hard work done by all the "Brains" at XDA shines through
Its only when you are forced to use a Operator released ROM that you realize how poor they are compared to our XDA cooked Roms.
I'm running the latest 2.05 htc ROM and have had a few lock ups. I have also had some crashes with my nav software (HandyMap AI Gold) which I have never had on my previous devices.
The other niggle is with the D-Pad, it is too cramped. I never know when I try to press the enter button whether or not Ill actually get it. Maybe its something I will get used to. On the wizard you could press this button without looking at it but not so on the Hermes. With all the "free space" on the section bellow the screen I wonder why they squished all the buttons so close together.
So all in all I am happy with my upgrade, and once the XDA Roms start to filter through I will be ecstatic about my upgrade
Thanks to all who replied here.
Jules
Screen
Is the screen size and resolution the same on hermes and wizard.
I am thinking of upgrading
Yes the screen is identical.
Its a good upgrade imho
Jules
Hi All,
I was just looking to by the new netgear skype phone and then I thought maybe the Atom Life might run skype well because of the faster processor!!!!! Has anyone tried skype on the Atom Life???
I have tried skype on most of my phones from Jasjar, Jasjam, Atom and others and it was never a nice experience, please anyone let me know of your thoughts?
skype
Im using skype 2.3 on my HP RW6818 with a spectec minisd wifi, and everything is working perfectly. Though you need to set the AGC to 3, Skype echo cancellation on and the volume to 30% in order for it to work, i wouldnt recommend using the headset as it may do damage on your phone.
Now you just need to put the phone upside down, so the speakerphone becomes the earpiece, and have a normal phone type conversation. Dont worry about the mic, it will still function normally eventhough its on top.
I tried using the Skype for Windows Mobile version on Atom Life. Seemed to work fine for text. The voice call worked fine for about 15 mins but by then the device became very hot and it switched off. It wouldn't come on until it after some time when it cooled a bit
I have no plans of using the voice comms again.
