WIFI and GPRS connection priorities - Networking

Hi all,
I have an XDAII from the Spanish carrier Movistar (TSM500). I want the device to access internet. I have WIFI in my office, so I would like to use this infrastructure in the device instead of GPRS.
I have a SDIO card from SOCKET that works correctly with the device and I can connect internet via proxy.
I would like to know how must I configure the connection settings in order to make it transparent. I mean, if there is WIFI the device must use WIFI it not the device has to use GPRS.
Does anybody know the settings I must to apply to the device network configuration (work, internet…) in order to get this WIFI, GPRS priorities?
Thanks and regards from Spain

...and to make your question more complicated, to setup wifi with proxy, gprs with no proxy and mms connection with no proxy. All these together?
so be it - manemoi
T,

Exactly!
Hey Manemoi, that's EXACTLY What I would like!
Is there a way to have the Magician choose this automatically? For instance, I can use my Sandisk SD WiFi 256 only when I set both my ISP and Work settings to an emtpy profile. It then seems to know it should use the WiFi connection available. I can then Internet, send mail Everything! Perfect! When I take out my WiFi card and activate my Active Synch with BlueTooth, it works too, Can internet over Active Synch without problems. But Mail will connect but then not send mail for some reason...
Whenever I want to use GPRS, I gave to goto connections and then manually change the modems there for ISP to my GPRS Modem Setting. Isn't there an easier way? Can't Internet explorer be told to use whatever conection available? Instead of ALWAYS connection to whatever is set under the My ISP setting?

I'd be interested if you ever got an answer to this as I am now at the same point

choosing wifi over GPRS

When I look at the list of connected networks, I see these:
T-Mobile GPRS (GPRS)
[my wifi] (Wi-Fi)
The wifi connection is set as "connects to: The Internet".
Sometimes when I go to check email, it'll connect to GPRS even though I have a wifi connection. Why doesn't it use the wifi? How can I force it to use wifi instead of GPRS?
t-mobile with the 2.17 ROM, 2.07 radio.
Bump....I'd like to know the same thing.
Assuming you will never want to use GPRS....if so, write down the settings
Go to Start>Connections>Connections>Delete GPRS
At least that's what I think I did
Make sure that both your wireless lan card and wireless connection are set to connet to the internet. I had my phone wifi set as connecting to "the internet" but when I clicked on my home wireless connection in the list of available access points it was set to connect to "work". Hopes this helps.
I am wanting to know the answer to this problem also... I dont have edge or Gprs and I want to be able to check my pop & pop3 email using Wifi..
Thanks!
Does anyone know how to solve this problem???

Using only Wifi

How do you select what network connection to use? 99% of the time I only ever want the phone to connect to the internet over Wifi (or bluetooth/cable connection to the computer) and not using Cingular's network. There is the occasional time that I would like to enable that but most of the time I want to only use the Wifi. Where can I set so it doesn't connect to Cingular accidentally (say if I'm out of Wifi range or hit the wrong button) so i don't get large data charges?
Thanks
In connexion option set default internet connexion as "my work network" and privat network default as "my work network" as well.
So lemme just confirm something - unless I configure server settings on the a HTC TyTN (using stock rom) on the Cingular network - it will not be able to use Cingulars network right? The only time I will be able to access the internet with the phone is over wifi, bluetooth connection (or USB) with an internet enabled computer. Otherwise the internet will not function and I will not be charged data charges correct?
I don't really ever find myself using the internet on a phone when I'm away from home so I can't justify the expense of the data service but I work on a few websites that I'd like to look good on a cellphone so that's my main reason for wanting internet access on it - so while I'm at work I can log into the wifi system and test the site while I'm tweaking the code.
Am I correct in assuming that I shouldn't be charged under this situation?
Hi, I'm on Vodafone and I made the changes fun_key posted without noting down the original settings. Please can someone tell me what the default settings are for internet connection and private network connection. Thanks

How do you keep ActiveSync from changing your proxy settings on Wizard?

My wife is using a T-Mobile MDA at work and her job uses proxy to get network access for their desktop computers. We're using T-Mob web plan (T-Zones) and use a proxy setting to access to the internet. But when she connects her phone to her desktop, it changes her current connection to the companies proxy and port info. She really doesn't need to access the internet while connected to ActiveSync, so how do I keep ActiveSync from changing the proxy settings? Or is there a way to have both proxy settings and switch automatically? It seems like Active sync will change the proxy info of whatever connection is set in the phone when connecting. Any advice would be appreciated.

Click to collapse
i think you need to have one setting only!
you can try to disable the advanced network connectivity for the active sync at work! go active sync - file - (make the following settings)
this computer is connected to - work network
uncheck the two boxes below
that what i do for my work computer - hope this useful
best wishes
Thanks... I had the same problem with my HD2 but your tipp is working for me... nevertheless, as long as my ohone is connected via USB to my work computer the GPRS connection is down, so I can't receive mails or surfe the internet with my phone and its normal GPRS connection - any ideas how to do something about this?
I use my ActiveSync at work to synch the Outlook calender entries but also to charge the batterie at the same time. Until I used your settings I had to modify the proxy settings (delete proxy) every time I disconnected the HD2 from the PC. Now that this is solved I would like to use the time having my phone connected to the PC to use the internet as well - as it is working when it's only connected in harddisk mode...
Thanks in advance!

Email connection on vodafone rom

Any one had any problems doing a send/receive on the vodafone branded rom? I've set it up fine but it only seems to want to download them using a specific connection. If I set the network connection to Internet, then I can only download the emails if i'm connected via wifi and the only way to download them if i'm on the go is to go into the advanced server settings a then specify that I want to connect via wap...
It wont let me specify to use any connection available. For example, if there's wifi connection, use that, if not use wap.
Is this a common issue or just with the vodafone branded c**p?
Ok so i've partially resolved my issue above. I removed the proxy settings which now means that if I'm not connected to wifi, it will dial up wap. But now my problem is removing the proxy has removed access to windows live/hotmail. Vodafone have really screwed with the settings it's pi**ed me off... Anyone have a cab for windows live?

Mail doent connect through wifi - only with data!

Hi there kind people of XDA.
after installing a new rom I encouter a problem with setting up my gmail account. It seems as if the HTC mail client isn't willing to work with my wifi connection and only working with the data (which is disabled).
when I send/recieve, it tells me that it cannot connect and that I should press - settings. After going into settings I have 3 options for my work connection.
the first one is where I think the problem is:
*add a new modem connection.
after I chose that I've been asked to choose a modem and I dont have a wifi ot the broadcom lan card. only bluetooth, cellular line, cellular line (GPRS) and hayes compatible on COM1.
Any idea?
go to settings, connections, connections, advanced, select networks. Then change the first setting to 'work'. I have a dutch version, so the names might be slightly different.
thanks but I already tried it. The problem is that when setting up a new connection I cant use the broadcom as the connection modem!
Now I know my phone isnt using the same network as you. I have only one cellular account that I connect to. For this example I will call it "My Connection" I have that set in Network management to be the default connection for the internet.
Now when I go to my email connection settings I can choose that connection or a few others. If I choose "My Connection" then the email will only connect though cellular data. But if I choose "Internet" then it will connect through both.
So when I have wifi present I can connect with email, mms, surf with opera, and update weather all through wifi. When my wifi goes down or gets turned off everything reverts to cellular data.
ditto - on 1.48 i get 'Internet' as well as the T-mobile internet and T-mobile MMS settings. internet seems to latch onto anything that has a public ip - and starts with wifi.
I have found that one thing which stops email sync is not wifi/HSDPA data, but rather the exchange domain setting disappearing sporadically.
do u have bsb tweaks the same thing happend to me and in bsb i had wifi disable go in bsb and enable it.
please see if at
