How to recreate a CAB file - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi
I have purchased French map software for a PDA and it works fine on my iPaq 4150. In order for the software to work you have to download the PPC version from within the PC program however it refuses to download the software to the iMate JAM as it does not recognise the device. I would like to manually download this file to the jam and see if it can be manually installed. There is no cab file on the CD for me copy so is there a method by which i can create a cab file from my ipaq installation and reinstall on to the jam.
Any suggestions would be great as i am becoming a bit unstuck as their support desk only speak french and unfortunately mine is of the pidgeon variety.
Thanks

Usually the cabs created after installation in Program Files of your PC or in Microsoft ActiveSync folder...search or browse...
Editing or changing the compatible device used the "WinCE Cab Manager" (google it)

T-Mobile MDA compact with PocketPC platform can't run .exe

This is my first post and I have looked around but it seems no one has the same problem with me or I could miss something.
I just got a MDA compact from T-Mobile UK. I wanted to install some applications but I can only use .CAB files. When I tried to execute a .exe file it says "'file_name' is not a valid Pocket PC application". After that I found out my MDA using Pocket PC platform.
Question is how I can use those .exe files. Would upgrading ROM help?
If they are the correct .exe programs for Pocket PC 2003 SE then I believe they can be installed via ActiveSync.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

By far the most .exe files you can download from the Internet for a PocketPC are actually installers that need to be run on your desktop PC, not on the PocketPC itself. Make sure your PocketPC is connected to your PC and ActiveSync is running, then try starting these .exe on your PC.
If your desktop machine is a Mac or any other non-Windows PC, you are out of luck basically - then you need to ask someone with a Windows PC to run these .exe for you, grab the extracted .cab from some temporary directory, and give those to you.
Cheers
Daniel
Just for the sake of completeness, you cannot install Smartphone software on a Pocket PC, despite the similarly-named OS
misunderstanding
so far that I know, exe can only be executed on the desktop pc. while cab files u can executed it in ur pocket pc.
Omg...I'm so dumb...
Thanks a bunch guys

Hallo,
It's not possible to install maps trough .cab files.
TT has to install map related lines in the .exe file, .doc file and in the reg.
So you have to install trough setup.
Succes, Hannes 8)
Use a card reader.
Or you could install the maps to a local folder on the PC and then copy the directory over via activesync.

Can you please tell me how you managed to get TomTOm installed? I get the error message every time: Tomtom was unsuccessfully installed.

Ok I installed Italy maps but now the program asks for an activation process. Even giving the code embedded in the map, the activation on the tom tom site doesn't work...

can you give us a step by step process. and what versions of TT have you used ?
I installed tom tom 5.1 copying .cab files in the jasjar, then I copied the italy_plus folder in the jasjar and the program acknowledges the map ... but it asks for the activation code, saying that i must insert the disposal code (shown by the program) in a tom tom site mask. I tried but the site says that the disposal code is wrong.
I Got my TT5 working on the K-Jam! (Partially) This is what I did:
1 - TT5 did not istall properly over active sync - So I installed all of the CAB filed to my Storage Card and installed directly on the divice (I belive there are 4 files + get 1 voice file by searching the CD) I belive some the files are named ttn, GPS, etc)
2 - I emailed TomTom support and sent them a copy of my card so they can allow me to Re-activate my account (Belive they needed a copy of the card/cd, invoice of purchase and device invoice -- u can scan them , attached them, to a word file and email it to them). My code originally activated for my JAM (diff device code).
3 - I used the TomTom Map software to install the map to my PC. Then I copied the folder to my devices card via active sync
4 - when I started the TT5 -- it asked me for the activation code (which I got through ttcode.com)
5 - I activate the GPS control panel on Windows 5.0 (instructions I found on this site)
That is as far as I have gotten -- I am trying to figure out how to LINK the GPS to the K-Jam -- TomTom only lists a few coms open, but not one that the Blue Tooth lists.
Once I Figure it out -- I will post again!
Email me if you have any questions.
Hoped this helped!
In total you have to copy 4 files
mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg
that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.
Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.
Good Luck
GuidO
check www.htcclub.net for the soultion for installing TT5 and make it work !

Programs or Games will not install

Hi all,
Having a spot of trouble trying to install anything onto my MDA Vario, I generally search for WM5 software/games and everytime I try to install I get this message.
XXXXX is not a valid pocket PC application
Any clues?
Thanks
Sounds like your installing an exe that needs to be installed via pc using activesync. You can download activesync from the M$ website. The latest version is 4.2 as far as i know.
If you are downloading exe files, try opening them on the pc first. Most of the exe files are installation files that need to be executed from the computer. Some, very few, are actually compiled executables that only have to be copied to the PPC and run from there.
You will also come across CAB files. These files are my preference because you just copy them to the PPC and execute it there, and it installs the files right on the PPC.
Had a problem running activesync, it used to loop my pc when I attached the device. Since then I reinstalled XP Pro OS and reinstalled activesync (probably old version conflicting)
It now works a treat and loads up all my software!
Many thanks

Internet Sharing CAB File for WM2003

Hello!
I am looking for the cab file (if there exist any extracted one) that is found in most of the WM5 and WM6 OS. It is the Internet Sharing program that lets you connect your PC using USB to the internet. I have searched everywhere but could not find it. I did find the Vista drivers though but I cannot use the internet sharing without first activating it on the mobile phone. This is for a HP 6315 that has WM2003.

I don't have a CAB file but I extracted this from an HTC Universal ROM. Just copy and paste this file in the Windows folder, then create a shortcut icon in Windows>Start Menu>Programs.
---
I will try it today after work and let you know if it works in WM2003. Thanks!

My PDA (iPAQ 1940, wm2003) told me it's not a pocket pc valid application
And i think it's not a w32 application...
I'm searching for a way to simplify the connection between my PPC and my UBUNTU laptop...
And wm2003 doesn't have a native program to do that
Thanks
internet sharing will only work with WM5 not WM2003, which is the reason your ppc says that it is not a invalid ppc application
Internet connection sharing is a new feature of wm5 networking. It wont work on devices with previous os.
The error that it gave you is because of the fact that it's compiled for a target CPU that is different from yours.
I would very much like to get a utility that can work in windows mobile 2003, with similar features of internet sharing in wm5 or wm6, so that I can share the internet connection of my ppc in my laptop while I can still receive phone calls and text messages. Can anyone develop such a tool?
Ok, i understand...
I have to try out other roads to share my internet connection from ubuntu to my pda
Tnx to all!
I will try the programe for my FS LOOX T830. Thanks
I don't have any.I will try to apply that.

Unable To Install Software

Hi Everyone,
New member here. First timer to WM phones. Bought the Hermes 2 months back, which came upgraded with WM6., but since then unable to connect to PC. Device not detected via ActivSync 4.5. Also downloaded some software from http://www.htcfreeware.com/ , but , some ( Like Skype ) dont install , message " This is not a PPC software " , any tips ?
pretty much all exe you download for ppc are exe files for the pc not the ppc
when you get installl programs for ppc they are called cab
the exe files are pc programs which using activesync install the cab on the ppc
if you try to run a pc progra on a ppc you get the error msg
" This is not a PPC software "
sometimes one can on the pc rename the exe to zip as many are just selfextracting zip files
and then manualy copy out the cab file
