Poxy TomTom crap as usual!!!! - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I have had a guts full of TomTom's crap. Their support is a joke.
I have legitimately bought all their software (paying twice for GB) I have bought their traffic plug-ins. But because an O2 repair was given a new device code I've gone 6 months without my navigation.
I got in touch & was told to send proof of purchase, I was about to upgrade to an XDA IIi so I waited, I then sent this e-mail with all my product codes & an A4 scan of my new contract :-
Please guys,
I have recently upgraded from an XDA II to an XDA IIi and although I've uninstalled previous versions of Nav3 & traffic each time I try to re-install I get a message saying ' you have not installed any voice files, I've tried zip versions too. I also need an unlock code as I've changed my phone again.
I have seen in another question that there exists an upgrade disk for versions using 2003SE which seems to have a seperate voice files, do I need this disk?
Or would I be better off waiting for Nav5 upgrade? (tho this would mean no navigation during my present 2 month+ tour of Europe)
Will the Nav3 maps work with Nav5?
I then got this reply :-
Response 13/04/2005 03.31 PM
Dear Mr R,
1. Run the installation CD and select Change voice promts, You can install from there.
2. This software has already been installed/activated on two different PDAs .To comply with the terms of the software licenece. Please fax a proof of purcahse of the new PDA. ( sorry we are unable to read the scanned attachment propelry) to +31 20 850 1097
3.Navugator 3 maps will not be Nav 5 compatible. However an upgrade will be happening in the new couple of weeks, More information will appear on our website in the coming few weeks.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
I'm going to try to get our Advertising & Trading Standards Board onto them, after the amount I've paid for this unreliable rubbish, it's completely unacceptable to have to be put through 'hoops of fire' to be able to use my own programme (I bought it, & all it's accessories, it's mine, isn't it?)
Sorry guys I'm ranting again! F*@%$#ng TomTom! I can't believe I'm saying this :-
Microsoft & their £40 Autoroute 2005 hve been my saviour! I just said something good about Microsoft!!!! :? :?

It may be some solace that the upgrade to TTN5 is imminent and this will effectively reset your install count. You will get TTN5, the latest UK map and a free upgrade to Maps Of Western Europe for a very very reasonable fee.
I know the install protection is a PITA but its there because earlier versions were widely pirated (although its done nothing to stop piracy of V3!).

It was exactly because of this problem that the keygens were produced, I have legit copies of tomtom 2 and 3 but still had to use third party hacks so i could use it when i upgraded roms or changed/upgraded pda.

o2 XDA IIi Firmware Update Due May...

Just received an email direct from o2 saying that a update is due in May that will include Blackberry support.
They also confirmed that there is a known problem with the GPRS connections being lost when connecting peripherals to the connector, however they could not confirm if this will be fixed in the May update.
Care to name your source? The O2 guys I've been speaking to are insisting they have no timescale for a new rom release.
JD
I have also been told this by a company called welcom, they came in to fit car kits for all our sales reps for the XDA IIi (Andes). There was a problem with the microphone on the device and the micophone on the car kit both being on and causing a nasty echo. The man in the van told me it was a software issue and that there was a rom update due next month that will fix it.
For obvious reason I cannot give the name of the person but,
I work for a large corporate who deals with o2 for both voice and Blackberry functionallity, I had been told in January that there would be a Blackberry connect client for the XDA IIi. I therefore asked for an upadate regarding the Blackberry client and also if the bugs would be fixed and that is how I've found out about the May release.
I suspect that o2 corporate support have access & know far more than the standard customer support teams, and for this reason feel confident that there will be an update.
Well for OBVIOUS reasons you cant name your source....reason being they obviously arnt as reliable as you think because here we are and NO new ROM and NO Blackberry support.
Give your source my regards
erm, there's an image for it here on our very own FTP server!

I am also looking for a solution to this problem too...
Stevebristol, I don't know why people try to help when they receive posts like yours.....
But if it helps I've received a further update regarding the update, as you have nicely pointed out, its late...., and I have been told that it could be at least another six weeks, possibly longer.
No details as to what the update may include, but maybe the delay is due to a new OS update instead of a few bug fixes.
It would be nice if o2 included the new OS, Skype & Blackberry support, before I'm slated again, this has not been promised by o2, just my guess
I do think what was said regarding your source is a little harsh...not wishing to cast criticism myself but being involved in a MAJOR IT project for the Government means you're frequently exposed to delays in rollouts and Go-Lives...
I'm guilty of moaning regarding the release of o2 updates etc, but I have always known the reasons behind them based on my own experiences. Unforeseen errors during testing, new bugs found that crop up as a result of implementing fixes for others, etc, etc, the list goes on and on.
Cheers
Ant
Does anyone have any idea when the update will be available for the XDAIIi?
I keep checking the O2 website... and there is no mention of it. Could it be an urban myth?!
I've had my XDAIIi for three months now and I'm getting a little tired of the poor signal strength, freezing phone, unstable messaging software, poor camera picture quality, etc, etc. The XDAIIi does everything I want it to... but doesn't manage to do any of it well. I was really hoping that this update would solve at least some of my woes.
I'm even contemplating turning it into a paperweight, and reverting back to my trusty iPAQ, SD card camera and Nokia 6310i.
So I guess you are telling that it would simply be better iff Nokia buys HTC?
Hi guys
I actually work for O2 - I am a Device Specialist
I CAN confirm that there WILL be a ROM update released soon.
However there is no confirmed date for this. We cannot get any more infomation on when it will actually be released.
My advice is to just keep checking http://www.my-xda.com and if I find out anything more I will post on here
Hi Paul,
will this include Blackberry email support.
I used this on my XDA2 and went without it when I upgraded to a 2i on the promise it would be coming 'soon' that was back in March.

Thanks Paul.
I won't abandon hope just yet, then.
Maybe you could try and find out what fixes the ROM update will include?
Probably the same as the i-mate ROM with O2 customisations lol.
Doubt it will be anything great.
I can comfirm that the update will include blackberry support - I think the manufacturers realised they kinda made a mistake not allowing blackberry in the updated handset!
As to other updates, were just as in the dark as you guys - you would be suprised how little we are actually involved with the manufacturer.
All I can say it watch this space
reboot and free youself!
Why not just do a hard reset and install as 'corporate'
(you'll need code 0506)
buy 'sbp pocket plus' and relax.....zzzz
Device is a lot more stable and no more annoying o2 menus
enjoy!

So how would you programatically default the install to Corporate and add in the GPRS settings at the same time?
Why not just install the i-mate ROM and never worry about O2 crap again

Co Pilot 6

Does anybody here use Co-Pilot 6 with the Exec, if you do comments would good on, installation, use etc
CoPilot 6
I would tell you if only ALK would provide the upgrade. They have been offering the upgrade since October 21 but all attempts to take advantage of the offer have been met with silence or an auto responder welcoming you to a customer support queue!
I am beginning to assume that there are no real people at ALK Europe.
Any suggestions for alternative software from a company that likes its customers?
Thats strange, I have emailed there customer support a couple of times and they replied very promptly unlike NAVMAN and TOM TOM who never bothered to reply. That's one one of the main reason why I'm interested in the Co-pilot because there customer support appeared better. Now you've got me thinking.
actually where did you bought it from ?
I cannot find any seller right now ? Seems that they will fit me best because of the eastern maps.
I'll let you know
I've been using Copilot since vedrsion 4. It's always proven to be a great and dependable product for me. I have ordered version 6 which seems like a perfect fit for the Universal. According to the e-mail I received, version 6 is supposed to ship tomorrow, so I will let you know next week how it works.

Hang tight!
Co-Pilot 6 will be available from T-Mobile UK real soon!
I am waiting for a copy myself.
Just trying to get some inside info!

It is advertised on the Co-Pilot web site that T-Mobile is a seller, I guess the operator you spoke didn't realise. Would not be the first time the customer service people didn't know what the company there work for sells.
Have you spoken with ALK
copillot 6 and t mobile
Here the answer fromAlk :
Thank you kindly for your mail. As of today T-Mobile has started offering the MDA Pro with CoPilot Live 6 as a tight bundle. They unfortunately do not sell the CoPilot Live 6 software alone, so if you specifically require this part I suggest selecting an authorised reseller from ALK’s published list at http://www.alk.eu.com/buynow/buy_authoriseddealers.asp. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
On its way
I got a notification that Copilot 6 shipped to me today. I chose ground service, so it won't be here until Friday. I will give you an update then.
PanaBax
I have heard that Co-pilot 6 should be available in stores as of Wednesday! But unfortunately only as a packaged deal with the MDA Pro.
Should be picking my copy up on Wednesday.

What map version did you get Just the UK or UK and Europe??? and where did you buy from???
Well bit of a long story but - I am getting it for free!
I bought the MDA3 about three months ago and had problems with it within the first 28 days of me having it, when I tried to exchange it in store they didn't have any in stock and T-Mobile were dis-continuing them, so I waited and waited until the PRO came out and because CO-Pilot 5 isnt compatible with the Pro then they have to honour that to be exchanged too!
I would expect it to be UK and Europe as my copy of 5 was UK and Europe and the live version too!
I'll let you know how it goes when I pick it up later!
Ok Picked it up!
First strange thing I noticed was that they have packaged Co-Pilot 6 in a Co-Pilot 5 box ( a bit strange ).
Receive the usual annoying Welcome to Co-Pilot intro.
Seems to work fine in landscape mode.
Switching screens when selecting a button is pretty fast.
Connects to BT GPS OK
Whilst changing POI's application froze ( soft reset required )
Started demo - sound didn't work at first but works after soft reset.
Volume switching OK
3D view smooth
Zoom mode IN/OUT OK
Earphones works OK
Unable to connect to LIVE No Modem at above number when trying to connect via GPRS/3G
Same issue as above with traffic update
MAYBE CAUSED by the demo? will test later when in vehicle
POI's now working
Big finger buttons great!
Quits nice and quick!
Well thats all I got time for at the moment!
Will update as I test!
Copilot 6 has two seperate installations, WM 2003 and WM 5.0. The VGA looks great. Landscape works great. The big buttons are a real plus. It allows you to use the thing without the stylus. I tried to install with the text to speach, and it works, but I hate it, just like I hated the prior versions TTS. I will reinstall with prerecorded promts.
The bluetooth setup was simple and worked flawlessly. I've only had a short time to test it, but so far, I am very satisfied.

new o2 update look

anybody been o2 site, new look and I think new updates. But I cannot download them???
hmm dun think its an update. i just went to the site and didnt see any new new ROMs.
On the applications page it makes a direct reference to push emails... This is only in the latest rom's so they must be planning a release soon surely? Otherwise why mention it?
http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaExecApps.aspx
The very last phrase say:
The upgraded software for Microsoft Windows Mobile® allowing push email is coming soon.
(complitly scroll down, you'll see it)
;-)
what the heck is push e-mail anyway?
What other updates do you recon we can expect from O2?

push email makes pocket outlook work in a similar manner to blackberry devices, where email is "delivered" to your pda.
Aside from that we'll probably get nothing more than is already available in the latest rom's from other suppliers, though we can always hope for stereo bluetooth
i was hoping for the Wifi being fixed so its not like a 56k modem.
Oh well.....

web page lovely. still no ******g Rom update. o2 are slack.
Customer service is crap.
IT people at o2 know nothing.
No a2dp in next rom.
10 times more expensive on unlimted data than Tmobile. 75quid vs 7.50. no wonder they can afford such a swanky new web site.
o2 are ***k. I'm off to tmobile in 34 days and counting.
34 day and counting
Good luck CRJL, still got 15 months left on mine contract. sign up to 02 and flipping T-mobile came out with web and walk. oh well i just keep paying.
Unlucky, I've not had many problems that cant be fixed by browsing on here, but i'm not using the mobile-internet stuff at all and are getting it on o2 employee cash cause of my girlfriend, but they do hold back on Rom and Radio updates to the general public and the product itself still feels like its beta hardware with so many of them failing, thought I was due a 3rd one there for a bit but the bug went away.

Guys, just to let you know (unless you've figured this out/posted it above and I did not spot it):
Go to the Software upgrade page of any device:
e.g http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaExecSoftware.aspx
And then add 'download' to access the Updates:
i.e http://xda.o2.co.uk/xdaExecSoftwareDownload.aspx
Such a sly... no IMEI needed
Hope that helps
Cya
Looks like they have spotted this one.... it doesn't work any more, or maybe the pages are offline right now.
They seem to be doing a lot of work on the web site just recently ... I wonder why :?:
so has anyone managed to download then? and can you post them here?
Looks like they've put a check on the download page to see if you've actually done the IMEI check.
I've just gone through the check myself, and there's no check (as of yet) on the actual download link
http://xda.o2.co.uk/downloads/Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v113188.exe
(edit add - it's still an ancent ROM mind you)
Now the index page for the site is showing a 403: You are not authorized to view this page message. Hmmmmm.... *strokes* beard.
Just what is wrong with providing your IMEI? AFAIK it's just to make sure you're not trying to get the Exec ROM for the wrong device. O2 already know you've got an Exec - it says so on your account - and they know your device's IMEI.
As for ROM upgrades - use the latest QTek or IMate ROM. The QTek works well for me.
It's a PITA (albeit a minor one) to go through settings, open up the info screen, and type it in.
It's also a phone number check, so if you've got an Exec on a different network you can't get the updated rom. Or if you've got an MDA Pro etc then you can't get it as well.
Only 3 people on this entire thread are not on O2.
And you've wasted more time moaning about the O2 website than it would take to find your IMEI. Which is literally 5 taps of your stylus.
Besides which, the O2 ROM is crap, and the next O2 ROM will probably be just as crap, so there's probably not a great deal of point waiting for the next O2 ROM anyway, or using an O2 ROM on a device that isn't connected to O2. Unless you actually use O2 Active in which case you're doomed to use the current O2 ROM until O2 finally get an AKU2 ROM out. Which could be months away. FWIW you could probably copy the O2 customization crap out of the original ExtROM and install it over the top of a QTek/IMate ROM which would give you what you want from your device without having to wait for O2 or go through the hideously complex process of tapping your screen in 5 places and reading a number.
Like with any modern day phone you can just dial *#06# to find out your imei
Yeah but then you have to press 8 buttons: Phone, Fn, *, #, 0, 6, Fn, #
(or 1 button & 5 screen taps - technically the System Info is still the more 'efficient')

Australian DOPOD GPS ROM

Anyone know what's happening with this? Dopod seems to have released GPS roms for every other area.
thanks
got an email back from them tuesday- they are currently testing the new WM6/GPS ROM. Just waiting for phone companies to give it the all ok.
hopefully within a few weeks.
Can you post a copy of the email your receive from them ?
Here is what I recieved a few days ago
Dopod is planning to release a new rom code for the D810 within the next 2 months pending approval from Optus, 3 Mobile & Vodafone.
The New Rom Code with allow existing D810 users to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 operating system and it will also enable the D810 embedded GPS Antenna feature.
Once a user upgrades their D810 to the WS6 rom code all they need do is purchase Mapping software like – Co-pilot, Route 66 etc and install it into their device and they will be able to enjoy GPS navigation on the D810.
Note – A D810 with the new GPS rom code does not need an extenal antenna – the antenna is inbuilt.
The upgrade is planned to be available on the Dopod ANZ website pages at no charge to D810 customers.
We are also planning to release new models later this year and there will be a different version of the D810 made available for Mobile Operators Optus, 3 Mobile & Vodafone to offer.
We have not formally released any details of the changes to market other than there are some increases in the devices memory size and improvement to the CPU speed.
To date no Mobile Operator has decided to range or support.

i have been using it for while now and ist the best rom i have ever seen and never had any problem with it , it solved most of problems, try it . the only alteration you have to do is remove the message comes in the beggining regarding the net work which only gives you set up for asia , just close it and it never comes back again , also you have to set it up manually for mms and internet.
Hi,
I have been using the ROM with GPS on Optus, and had no issues, reasonable GSM/3G reception, and GPS works with TomTom 6.
I have noticed the Optus Zoo wep pages don't work (but I never use them anyway). All other wep/web sites work fine via Optus internet or via the built in WiFi.

im using the latest trinity rom with gps and tomtom..

Copilot Deactivation

(sorry this if this is in the wrong place , but the original device was a Uni )
I had copilot 6 installed on my MDA Pro , I sold (& formatted ) the MDA ,but kept the Card with Co-pilot on it , thinking I could use it in the event that I got a new WM device
Well , that day has now come (bought an Ameo ) and I have tried to install Co pilot on there , but it wants me to deactivate it on the old device !
I obviously cannot do this , as I no longer own the device , and even If I could get to it ... copilot was removed anyway !
Anyone encountered this problem before ?
Yes me!!
I damaged my phone and had a new one sent. I can deactivate it for obvious reasons. I've asked Copilot support but had no reply yet!
Any ideas anyone!?
Things like deactivation of software should be printed in big letters before anything else on software. I get very p....off with things like that. You pay hard earned money and if your hardware gets damaged or you forget this small detail and format your hardware some companies don't care at all. They've got your money, now it is your problem. They treat you like s*&*!
In this case TomTom gives a better customer service because you can register more than one device with the licence without deactivating it. I had once an Axim and the Universal both with the same TomTom licence that came with the Axim without any problem. There are companies that work with a concurrency policy, so you can install on different equipment as long as you don't use them simultaneously.
It is not a solution for your problem but I feel your pain! Been there, done that.
Did you activate it via email? Did you keep the activation email by any chance? Or was it done online through the hardware? If it was done via email, you could try and see if you could send and email back deactivating it. Just an idea.
