if you want use side slider on your XDA2 for something else then changing sound volume now you can do it (with some restrictions):
This utility unmap volume slider on MDA2/XDA2/iMate (and probably other PDAs).
Disclaimer:
By default side slider change system volume and can not be used for something else (only exeption is some games).
What it do:
This prog remove mapping of side slider on changin volume making possible to use it in other programs (scrolling pages in Haali Reader for example).
Installation:
Copy file unmap_volume.exe to "/Windows/startup" folder
soft-reset device
Uninstall:
delete file unmap_volume.exe from /Windows/startup
soft-reset device
How to map this slider in other programs/which programs are supported:
Side slider generates virtual-key codes 0x75 (equal to "F6" button) and 0x76 (equal to "F7" button). If your programm can use this buttons then it can use slider.
Is it possible to run programs by slider (like by ordinary application buttons)?:
No, maybe this feature will be implemented later.

Excellent!!!
This button is very usefull now!!!
This sounds like a useful trick - I never use the volume control, except accidentally while on a call  . Can anyone say what applications they've found to use this hack? I don't have a lot of extra software on my machine - how many of the built-in apps could use the slider to scroll? Perhaps one line at a time in Pocket IE?
Very nice Thank You!!
Ive managed to change the registry entry in WMP so I can use it to change tracks.
To make it truly useful though it will have show up in the button assignment window.
Thx again

unfortunately this hack can be used in very few apps (see readme.txt) but v.2 is coming soon
Main feature of v.2 is driver, that remaps unstandart vKey codes (0x75 and 0x76) to the standart "application-buttons" range, wich make possible to use "volumeup" and "volumedown" buttons like calendar/contacts/camera/record button. the code I've at this monent is not 100% stable, and configuration interface is far from user-friendly, but it is quite workable, so final version will be released shortly.
Des, unfortunately the notification is not always working for new posts...
Can I be included in your mailing list (if takovoy imeetsya ) when new version v2 will be ready for trial?
Thanking you in advance (Zaranee blagodaren)

Des, good stuff!!! I also never use the slider for volume, but would be quite keen to use it in MS REader for Page Up / Page Down. Is that possible?
Just a question, Des. What registry settings are you changing or removing? A friend of mine has a PocketLOOX which has sliding buttons to be used for Up and Down - I would be keen to find out what settings he has got in the Registry...
farnold this hack isn't registry tweak so it dosn't change, create or delete any registry keys. unlike PPC2002 in WM2003 handling of keys with vKey codes 0x75 and 0x76 is hardcoded in shell32.exe and current version of hack just rollback RegisterHotkey() maked in shell32.exe
Thanks, mate. Well explained... so is there hope for using the slider in MS Reader at all?

i don't use microsoft reader so i can't tell you exactly, but if MS Reader is able to bind desired actions to application buttons (calendar/contacts/camera/record but NOT joystick/action) then most probably that you should be able to use volume slider in it (with next version of button remapper).
Hm, I think I will be left out then... I would think that SCROLL FOREWARD and SCROLL BACKWARD in MS Reader are nothing but JOYSTICK TOP and JOYSTICK BOTTOM ...
But that makes me thinking as well... you mentioned that you change something in shell32.exe... the PocketLOOX has a similar slider which does nothing but scrolling... maybe someone knows which function is required???

let's make things a bit clearer: there is no problem to make volup/voldown dublicate joyUp/joyDown, but I'm not planning to include "per application profiles" in this version, so such remapping would be systemwide.
ps: why peoples are using M$ reader ? there are lot of e-book readers (iSilo, mobi pocket, uBook, Haali reader) that are (imho) much better than M$R, and there are converters from drm'ed .lit to open formats (plain text/xhtml/XML e.t.c.)... so WHY ?

Because it's just the best program for reading a lot - I mean "best" when it comes to things like display quality, fonts and so on... and I don't have a problem with DRM, but probably 1,000 free eBooks in lit format... that should be enough for my life
And is there any hope to use it with XDA1 (T-Mobile MDA) - the volume button is stupid and absolutely useless!
I would have it changed into JogButton and start all the apps with it...

Hello Des!
Привет Des!
Не могу ни от кого добиться - как переписать ROM 1.60 в O2 на новый ROM 1.72, который выпустила T-Mobile?
Подскажи, please, если знаешь.
Ну вы, блин, даете! xda-developers.ru? шутка!
er.. WTF?
BTT: why not add to this tool to allow the slider to be mapped to custom keys? PageUp/PageDown would seem like an obvious choice to me, making it instantly compatible with the majority of readers, but others might want it to be mapped to other keys. All the same, PocketQuake could have PgUp/PgDn mapped to weapon changes
I have to say I find the In-Call volume control indespensible - some phone calls come through quite loud, while some come through very quiet.

Hey Prince.
Ti uveren chto hochesh upgrade to T-Mobile 1.72? Is it already official release or you want to try BETA? If BETA - run from there
Better find I-Mate 1.72 (official) - the fastest ROM i tried up to know...
As of how to upgrade - use http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/ER2003Edit to change the ROM Carreir ID to what you need for each of the roms included. More details can be found if you search the forum (ili mozesh poslat mne pm i ya postaraus tebe pomoch)

it works!
It seems to work pretty good! Great job man!
carolos,
will it be too much to ask you for a small program to delete files and/or folders for WM2k5? Something like the old AutoRun.exe-Config.txt program; where you can list the folder/file names in a file for deletion.
If not, does this already exist? Could you point me there?
Thanks.
hi acmorfe
hmmm...
to tell you the truth
i started playing with windows ce 2.0
then i left portable devices until recently (about a month ago)
because i got a phone that has windows ce 2003 se
so i am a bit rusty
but if you want a program that does it on the phone itself
there was like ms cmd for pocket pc or something like that
i think you could possibly make it run a .bat or .cmd file on execution
and i think you can add the that to the registry of your ppc
i wont be able to write anything anytime soon...
because
1) i dont have the ms sdks
2) they are too big to download
3) internet access is really expensive here
sorry i hope info helps, good luck

Re: Charmed BETA 0.2
Why are you developing this program? You cannot make anything that would be as useful as an IDA (www.datarescue.com). You'd better spend your time on IDC scripts or developing a processor module for ARM if you don't like IDA's builtin disassembler (which is really great in 4.80).
didn't everyone at one point in their live write their own disassemblers?
http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/disassemblers/
willem
@mamaich: I just wanted to point out the same thing.
the only sence of making a disassembler - is to integrate it into a really useful program for all PocketPC developers: a good and stable debugger.
http://www.datarescue.com/idabase/wince/index.htm
i beta tested it, i works very nicely, much better than the evc debugger.
willem
@itsme: Very nice. How are we supposed to wait till "Q2-Q3 2005"?

hi again,
c++ (embedded c++) would probably be the best
because you can do anything u like with it
but there are other options
c# and visual basic (visual studio 2005)
but they rely on the .net frame work, which is kinda like the java Virtual Machine, only microsofts version, it allows them to port applications to any os easily (even mac probably if there is a .net vm for mac)
good luck

Thank you very much. I like it. As you said, IDA is not free, hence the reason I don't have it. Now to just figure out how to make small changes. Thanks for your hard work.
@carolos: Why don't you start a new project at sf.net? So others might help and someday it may become better than IDA - who knows.
I need gfsdk.dll (canbe also libgfsdk.dll) from \windows or at least full function list with parameter types. It can be found on PDAs with NVidia5500.
Yes, i know it's ROM and usually cant be copied, but maybe some people could extract it from ROM image?
Why i need it? I have SHARP EM-ONE PDA. And it has libgfsdk.dll, but it has no libGLES_CM.dll. I fould libGLES_CM.dll in Call of Duty2, but it's trying to use gfsdk.dll, so i have no it and COD2 is not working. I got list of function names in libgfsdk.dll and checked them with name in gfsdk.dll libGLES_CM.dll is trying to load, and except one function libgfsdk.dll==gfsdk.dll. So if i could make remapping gfsdk.dll which will just call functions from libgfsdk everything should work. Problem is full description for that functions.
Also another way is to change name of dll libGLES_CM.dll is using from gfsdk.dll to libgfsdk. If there is some way i would be gratefull if you teach me how to do it.
Thanks in advance.
I have not found them in my flame.
If you are using built-in file browser you will not see them. For example you can turn "Hide ROM files" and "Hide dll files" off in Resco Explorer to see them.
Also you can try but i think it's impossible to copy them from device in usual way.
Got libgfsdk.dll in Toshiba G900
I have G900, and I've found libgfsdk.dll there. It's about 1.5 Mb and it CAN be copied. To my mind you can't found any descriptions for that lib.
But I think you can write wrapper gfsdk.dll lib. In moment of loading your wrapper, you just need to load also libgfsdk.dll by yourself and get all function addresses, make functions with the same names in your wrapper and just make JMP instruction (or some of it equivalent in ARM-architecture) to the target function in libgfsdk.dll. I'm not familiar with ARMs and the way of memory-addressing but I think it may work.
P.S.
Can you tell some more programs (games, utils, etc.) that use this lib (Cause I'm interesting to find out is my G900 realy has GoForce 5500 and using it)?
P.P.S. Have you tried to rename libgfsdk -> gfsdk? Were there any results?
I cant rename or copy my libgfsdk.dll.
Could you send me somehow that dll?
if you have libGLES_CM.dll also, could you copy it?
i believe that if you copy your libgfsdk.dll to gfsdk.dll and will use libGLES_CM.dll from Call of Duty 2, you could use nvidia 5500 3D accelerator in other games

Sorry, have some problems with my study... %(
I'll try to send it to you tomorrow.
But, you know, I've tried to launch Call Of Duty 2 Demo on my G900.
It said that I don't have some certificate or some file (of course the problem was in abscence of gfsdk.dll). I've changed name libgfsdk.dll to gfsdk.dll and copied it to game directory and to windows directory... Next time I tried to launch, I've got the error, that cod2.exe is not a correct application for Pocket PC... Pitty. I have a supposition, that this may have been caused by CPU, that my G900 has. It has Intel XScale PXA270 Bulverde. And on the site of game it was written that it is designed for "Monahans"-Intel XScale-new generation processors family. May be this is the reason of error...? How do you think?
But regardless of this, I'll try to send these file here. And I'll wait for your results and comments here )
Ну ты немного преврал, пробовал не ты , но всеравно спасибо
-Translation-
That's a bit not true, it wasnt you who has tried it , but still thanks.
- Translation -
Don't know why do you think that I lied about testing COD2 on my G900? I personaly tried to launch it. Surely I'm not the single person who tried to do this. I realy saw what I have described )
P.S. How did you get Sharp EM-ONE? As far as I know it is selled only in Japan... is it? Or maybe you've got it there? )
Some thoughts about gfsdk.dll.
In G900 it may be designed for it's architecture (well I don't know, the details, but it can realy be so). Sharp may have different one. So it just can fail to run.
In the other hand GoForce may have standart way of conenction in Win-mobile devices so it may have one kind of driver for different types of models (it may differ if device uses not ARM-based CPU I think)

Problem is I only find mfc classes and since today plugins are a mfc "no go" i'm left empty handed...

hi guys, I'm pretty new here. I've done some ROM installation before using this forum and found it very useful!
Today, I just received a HTC Max from Yota, Russia! Unfortunately, it is a Russian OS and I can't read Russian!
Any of you have HTC QUARTZ English ROM (stock preferred) or if not, can I use the Blackstone ROM for the HTC Max?
Any help would be appreciated!
Where did you get "MAX" especialy, that you not russian ?
on topic: even if rom from blackstone will be installed successfuly you will lose wimax support .... but it wiil be cool if you test it for different thing, threre are rumors, that blackstone could be released with "android", if so it would be great news having ability to easily port "android" to quartz .... cuz it's olmost ideal device, with "android" it would be complete
(sorry for bad lang )
wtf is so special about android? cause i really cant get it
any review i read it's like 1/3 of the functionalities of wm
1) it is faster.
2) it is open.
3) even open it has strong standardization.
5) there is standardizated mechanism to share any information between applications.
6) applications writen on java, so its easier to develop and debug apps for android.
1/3 of WM - just the mater of time, cuz android got realy big potential and wm not, its like android just born child and wm is an old man, even wm7 will not change this, M$ politics is to make operating systems more "glamour", but they never add real new and usefull functionality ....

I don't agree much with this sentence. While I presume software written in Java will probably be higher quality (java is more difficult to learn and master that say, visual basic), probably many programmers will be left out of the game.
The many little tools/utilities available for WM may never been available for Android.
In WM you have a much wider choice of programming languages / environments (Basic, C, C++, C#, Pascal, Delphi, Lazarus, Java, .NET), and I can only see that as an advantage for the community.
Other that that I'm also looking forward for Android to run on my devices...

And I see it as a big disadvantage for WM, the only quality software for WM is writen on C++, other is too slow, unstable or just not so comfortale to use.
Android's standart application achetecture is big step for open software ... btw, it's not so hard to learn java if you learned any of that other languages.
I only think that being forced to use Java is not the best solution to spread support, but I think that as Android matures that will change, and many other programming languages will eventually appear (but I know nothing about Android programming.. just guessing.. and hoping...).
Professional developers have no problems picking up Java, casual programmers may.
At the end, if crappy programs are develped in Visual Basic, we just don't use them (crappy programs can be developed in java also), but other good software may have been developed in "crappy" languages.
I tested Embedded Visual Basic (and developed some custom code with it) and, while I blush admitting to having used Visual Basic, I got good results (not slow and not buggy), and at the time there were not many alternatived (that I knew of anyway)...

Hahaha... the closest I can get to Russia is Red Alert 3 now.
As for the debate on Windows Mobile and Android, I have had the privilege to try out one unit of the T-Mobile G1 recently. I have to say it is very responsive compared to Windows Mobile and has great potential. Although still not as sexy as the htc devices, the next wave of Androids will definitely be a great challenger to all smartphones today.

The .NET environment put forth by Microsoft is actually the strong point of Windows Mobile and easily beats anything out there in terms of development and debugging. Well, at least that is my opinion.
