I've noticed since I got my XDA IIi that the GPRS seems to 'stick'. It's got worse since I upgraded the ROM and Radio (ver 1.72.00WWE and 1.17.00 respectively).
What happens is that I attempt a GPRS connection but I get a message telling me that the either the dialled number didn't answer or it couldn't connect. However, if I do a 'soft' reset I can connect. The problem seems not to occur if I remain within a cell. ie. once I've done a soft reset at work then it's OK until I go home and vice-versa. Any ideas or suggestions? I did have this problem with the original XDA and when I contacted O2 I got answers which either insulted my intelligence or had a destinct whiff of BS about them but never a viable suggestion.

This morning however I managed to connect theres wahat I've done
1. Deleated all modem conections
2. Done a soft reset
3. Set up a new ISP modem connection
(theres the impotant bit: this time I didnt set up and IP or DSN in advanced tab, I left them blank.)
tryed to connect, and it worked
So try it, may be that will help

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this,
I have tried to all O2 using 100 (but this keeps getting disconnected automatically) so I have to call as 0845 number which uses my minutes + I was waiting 30 minutes to speak to someone and when i eventually did get through they hung up (I am well Pi***d off with o2). Anyhow
I want to connect to the net using GPRS, however no GPRS symbol is displayed and if i try, i get a message saying "No moden at above number" any help would be great.
Cheers
Matt
Right, couple of things to suggest.
Firstly (and I know this sounds stupid)....O2 have recently installed new call centre handling "things" which SHOULD route your call more efficiently but as they have been put in by IBM (also, responsible for more recent "good inovations" in O2) the bits aren't working v well! - trust me as I speak from experience and "from the horses mouth" - I work for them!
So chill when you do get through....the staff on the phones are getting major grief from customers, dealers and fellow staff members (mainly store staff) because it's taking ages......It's not their fault!!
Anyway, back to your problem.....you haven'y said whether you got a new connection or an upgrade.....if it's the latter did you ahve GPRS on your previous phone and did it work?
If it's a new connection then GPRS hasn't been provisioned for some reason (although it can tkae 48 hrs max from connection to go through), same goes if it was an upgrade and you never used GPRS on the old phone.
Give me the answeres to these questions and I'll give you my best guess!
Mike
Check settings
I use this site for settings:
http://www.filesaveas.com/index.html
I would also suggest that you check that GPRS has actually been enabled by O2 for you. I had problems with MMS not being enabled although I HAD asked for it.
Thanks Mike for your responce, and I promise not to go ape at your colleagues.
I have a new account with O2, connected today, however seems strange that it could take upto 48hrs to get GPRS active, I was recently with ORANGE and as soon as I activated the phone (a SPV) the GPRS was active there and then. Ah well I will wait the 48hrs and hopefully it will come active sometime soon.
As an O2 employee, you may be able to assist on this query. As a paymonthly customer on O2 400, I am supposted to call 100 from my XDAII to call CS, but when I do this I get disconnected automatically as if the number is dead, any ideas?
Many thanks for your help.
Matt
An update on the aboe. I have managed to sort this problem out, I did a soft reset and when rebooted I noticed the phone settings were on Germany, changed it to UK and GPRS works fine.
Matt
for anyone searching with this problem
MODEM NOT FOUND AT DIALED NUMBER
1. phone CS on 0845 and make sure GPRS is on! (APN provisioning for mobile web access (you can 'check' on the 100 number, but they can't turn it on for you)
2. 3.30pm is the 'switch over' time, so soft reboot after this time each day (
up to 24hrs) ...... phone again if still not on !
3. GERMANY is default if you go to MY XDA - connections. it will always be on Germany. but the wizzard should of set it to UK when you first set it
Do you have the correct settings for wap over gprs, email over gprs using O2 payg sim with free gprs pages and wap.
Is there any portal to get the settigs to the O2 phone directly?
I Have to restart phone to regain GPRS connetion every now and then. I have radio version 1.01.00 and rom version 1.03.00 WWE. My provider is Vodafone in sweden.
If I go to flight mode and back to normal then I can connect to GPRS again. Should I uppgrade my I-Mate to get it to work? Any Ideas what to do?
I've heard of people with similar problems, you need to upgrade your Rom, if you wanna stay relatively safe, upgrade to:
Rom Version: 1.72.00WWE
U can get this from club imate
I'm afraid I can´t find the rom on the Imate Club site. But you belive my problem will be solved by uppgrading the rom right? I´ll have to search for it then. ;c) Thanks.
I sure don't see any version 1.72 on Club iMate at JAM Device Support. The latest available upgrade I see is:
Radio 1.01.00
ROM 1.03.143 WWE
Where do you see version 1.72?
Frank
I believe he's referring to the wrong device. 1.72 was for the I-Mate Pocket PC - not the Jam.
Ok. I have posted a case to Imate and they where about to send a file to correct the problem but I got an emty mail.
Imate support don't know what this is. I'm back on the hunt. Anybody else having the same problem with theirs? Please let me know in this thred
Sincere Apologies, I was in fact dreferring to the I-mate....didnt realise this thread was under magician
Got an ansver from Imate. They sent me an PDF file where they showed me how to set up the GPRS connection. The problem is, been there and done that. I’m totally lost here. Is it only me who has this problem with “magican” and Vodafone? (In Sweden). Frustrating! ;c(
Note: With my P800 and the same location and same SIM = no probem at all.
I have the exact same problem with Vodafone gprs in Sweden
Hi Robert
I have the exact same problem with GPRS. I am also a customer of Vodafone in Sweden. I have this problem regardless of the device I am using. I have been running Qtek 2020, 8010, 9090 and S100 (magician) devices with the same problem for quite a while now.
I have started to think that this is not a device problem. It is probably a problem with Vodafone GPRS. I have contacted their tech support a couple of times about this. So far we have tried disabling/reenabling GPRS on my account and switching to new Sim-cards. None of this has worked so far.
I am using their twin cards service switching between different phones, I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.
best regards
Christofer
Thanks a lot for giving me this feedback. I'll talk to Vodafone right away.
Solution: I know that Telia supports the magican device because they have them for sale. My solution was to call Telia and tell them that I wanted to use them instead. Its a covards solution but Imate blames Vodafone and Vodafone blames Imate.
I have an old Qtek1010 on Telia, and it is behaving just like your Magician on Vodaphone. Sometimes I have to actually remove the SIM and put it back in again to be able to reconnect.
Another question about the Magician and GPRS. I have read on a couple of forums that the Magician will not keep the GPRS connection alive when in "sleep mode". Is this true? If so I may have to quickly cancel my order...

My gprs connection seems to stay connected ok even when the machine is switched "off". I have an imate jam on o2 in the UK.
I don't know if it stays on forever because i tend to log off gprs so i can go on line through bluetooth.
Simon
This is really bad news. I thought that since Telia do have thoose phones for sale they should have tested them in the net. In that case I should start thinking of going back to my old P800 instead of changing provider.
I Wonder if there are someone in here who it works for in sweden. Please let me know.
I have several collegues who are not experiencing these problems with Qtek devices on Vodafone network. So it does not seem to be a general problem.

I just talked to Telia today as my GPRS broke down totally and there was just nothing that would make it connect. The person I talked to was very helpful and professional and we managed to isolate the problem to my SIM card. Being a brand new SIM I received just two weeks ago I though that just anything but the SIM would be more probable. It was very evident though as my SIM would not work with GPRS in neither mine nor a colleauges phone but the colleauges SIM would work just fine in both.
My new SIM will arrive on monday, and then hopefully it will not be too long before my S100 arrives as well
Ok, thats somewhat god news. Then there is hope to accually use this expensive piece of toy as it is suppose to.
Some input…
I have a Qtek S100 and run it with Telia. Works just fine, never have to reset or remove the SIM. However, I have problem with the GPRS to disconnect when synchronized with my PC and when using the phone. Have heard that an app called GPRS Keep Alive would solve that problem, haven’t tried it yet.

It will not. For two reasons:
1. There can only be one network connection at a time, and the activesync connection counts as a network connection (you can use network passthrough to use the activesync connection for network access from the PPC).
2. You can not have a GSM voice connection and an active GPRS connection simultaneously because they share the same radio hardware. Simultaneous GPRS and Voice would need two radios in the phone, and although it has been part of the GSM specification for quite some time there are no such device available on the consumer market yet.
hi guys n girls
ive just purchased an MDA Compact on a TMobile UK contract and im having some problems.... last night i tried to connect to the GPRS and it wouldnt connect, kept timing out on the connection and giving me an error... so i tried resetting the phone! it worked! connected straight away no problems.... so i put it dwn to a small glitch...maybe? until tonight its done it again! it wont connect to the GPRS andi ve had to reset the phone to get it goign again?
I use Bluetooth with ActiveSync and Bluetooth to my GPS receive for TomTom 5, apart from that the phone is pretty much standard

Dialed: <<BLANK>>
the answering modem has disconnected.
and to check the connection settings.
Im on orange PAYG and am using the Orange PAYG cab from the imate site which ive used before and had it working but cant remember if it was working before i upgraded the rom or afterwars im using imates 1.12 i think WWE ,Ive just tried my o2 payg sim and it connected fine, does anyone know what the problem could be,ive tried the caller id tweak and changed the class 10 to class 8 but with no luck . its strange though its saying dialed:and its blank in the pop up.
Im also using the big storage tweak if thats got anything to do with it?
Any help would be great thanks in advance
ive also hard reseted so ive got a fresah install with none of the extended rom contents installed
Any 1 please got any ideas as to what to try next as i really want to start reinstalling everything but need to fix this first
I guess you need to add a connection for the Orange PAYG. It seems like you only have one for the O2.
yea ive got a connection for orange tried everything now, puzzled
in start>settings>connections> in the connections option section did you select cellular line or cellular line (gprs)? it should be the latter.
SpeedN
Could it have something to do with the "connect to work" or "connect to internet" settings?
So okay, I've posted this topic earlier but forgot it and stuff so here's the problem:
I have a HTC P4350, with provider KPN (Netherlands). I've never had any problems at all, but when I tried to 'pimp' my phone a bit, it went wrong. I had to do a Hard-Reset on it, but when I did this, my phone isn't having a good signal!
So usually you have the 3-4 bars at your connection logo, but even when I'm outside sometimes, it won't find a signal and there will be the 'No Connection' error. I cant make a call/ be called or send a message/receive messages.
Please help me.

Try another radio mate, you can find a lot in the Wiki depending on your device and actual ROM, I had similar problems and after testing 5 different radios finally found the more suitable to me
Hope this helps
Good luck

WHICH RADIO DO I NEEDD!
I LIVE IN EUROPE, THE NETHERLANDS..

Same problem
Hello
I have this same problem with my XDA Zinc. Yesterday something happened to my PDA and since then its not showing up any network service.
Though all the other "wireless" features are working, this one alone is screwed up.
It searches for network and then says No service or Unavailable.
I tried phone settings -> changing the Network from Automatic to Manual, but then says it cannot read the network settings. I also tried "Set network" , but same error.
I am staying in switzerland and i have a mobile connection called Lebara.
Four months back, when i bought this connection, i had the same problem, but i did something and fixed it. (As far as i remember i fiddled with the Set Network, and it showed me list of all networks from all the countries, and i checked my service provider, and it worked). after that i never had any problems, until yesterday afternoon.
I put my sim card in another mobile phone and it worked. i tried soft reset and even hard reset, but all in vain.
One doubt i have about the hard reset, : It displays a screen with DOS like fonts and when i give hard reset, it restarts. But i have all my data (softwares and contacts intact.) did it really do hard reset?? If not how do i do that?
Also can you give me links for latest ROM updates, I am just wondering if a ROM update would fix this up. i have windows mobile 6.0.. Any "official" updates after that for XDA Zinc??
Please help me as i get very important calls , and i am completely paralyzed since morning.
Ok.. I am not sure if this is the problem , or if doing something with, my problem would be solved..
I went to O2 Autoconfig, and there It says ,
Current Network: 3 Australia
Detected Network: Lebara
And in Preferred Network,
Country: Australia,
Operator: 3 Australia
The country does not have Switzerland..
Though my network is Lebara, and it shows detected network as same.. Does it mean that it "knows" its Lebara, but due to some reason its not connecting.. , or is it that it is the "history" of my last connection..??
I am not sure, but if i can add "Switzerland" inside country list, then i may be able to solve this problem. (am i correct? )
If so, how do i do that..??
ok..
Now that nothing is working , i am getting F****** frustrated.. I tried Schap's Setup operator. http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2008/01/29/schaps-setup-operator-v03.html
However it does not show my service provider for my country (Switzerland)..
I put an orange sim card (since it had orange in the list).. I tried this again with this new orange sim card.. but that also didnt work..
Can anyone help me out PLEASE????????????????????????????
i need help ASAP... PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
