The android app, CompareAnywhere, will use your phone's camera to read a barcode on any item you may find in a store, then does a price comparison on other retail stores or online stores.
Is there any WM6.1 apps out there that does this too?
hmmm...
i was wondering the same thing after i saw the commercial, and did some research on the dream. that would be a cool app for my vogue. im going to do some more research to see if we can make it happen.
i have someting like that for the vouge
what exactly is it that u have? wat does it allow u to do?
do a search for iNigma reader
Never mind I attached it for you...
that app doesn't do anything but download other programs if they have a barcode.... unless I'm doing something wrong

This only scans 2D bar codes (sema codes). The bar code on products are all 1D.
Thanks anyway...
this would be a great app and i've been looking for something like it too. found one close, but you have to enter upc manually. google can already do that. good luck!
I might be interested in writing an application like this for Java micro edition. I thought about doing something like this for Android but was discouraged when I found that there was already someone doing it.
If I wrote this, I would develop it in such a way that it could be run on any J2ME compliant device.
Who'd be interested if it were offered free of cost?
Who'd be interested if it were not free?

Right, but this is just another Android App similar to CompareAnywhere, which at this time we can't use as the camera functionality is not working yet

Not quite... scanlife appears to only support 2D codes (semacode, EZcode, etc), and it just simply takes you to the web site that this code contains (provided that it is indeed a web site).
What I'm looking for is a scanner for 1D barcodes, encoded in UPC-A (vertical lines with numbers at the bottom).
I want something that takes these UPC barcodes and have the program automatically search Amazon or other online retailers for price comparisons. So if I go to a local Best Buy and see a router on sale, I can simply scan the barcode at the back, and see if there's another online retailer that have it for cheaper.
So far, I only see Android with this capability (they have 2 apps that does this actually).
Thanks for keeping an eye out though.
1D Barcode Lookup
I have this running on my Touch Pro and it's been pretty accurate with the barcodes of the things on my desk (kleenex box, empty coffee can). I haven't tried it "in the field" yet.

TouchPro has 3.2 megapixel AF
Vogue has a 2.0MP (no info on AF, but I think it is fixed focus...)
I could not get barcodes recognized with barcorama, however I only tried with one UPC sticker and not under the best light conditions.
If anyone else gets it work, let us know
Hey xDarKnighTx,
Microsoft worked on that concept a while ago and stopped further development.
Just google "AURA" with the words barcode.
I don't know much more about it, although some discussions relating to AURA seem promising.
Cheers
I'm extremely interested free or not!

Sorry if this has been hashed out somewhere else.
I was wondering if there was a version of the awesome HTC Youtube app (like on the Touch Pro/Diamond) that works on square devices like the Treo Pro?
I'm currently using the official Youtube app for Win Mobile from Google and though functional, i find it gimped compared to the HTC version feature-wise.

Kinoma was the first thing i uninstalled from my Treo Pro. I just find it annoying. First time i ever used it, it hijacked almost every file association and i had to use Resco Explorer to fix them back the way i wanted.
Anyone else wanna help out??

FWIW, Kinoma Play's Advanced Settings app lets you control file type associations, choose which folders are scanning, control Close box behavior, and more.
If you decide to give Kinoma Play a chance (it's got a 30-day money-back guarantee), definitely let us know how you think we can improve. We're constantly adding new features and improving existing features, based in large part on customer feedback.

Well my first suggestion is for your app NOT to hijack almost every file association in the first place. Pls, start there.

I started this thread to specifically see if there is a QVGA version of the much much better YouTube app HTC has in their Win Mobile phones (like the Touch Pro/TP2) than the generic official YouTube app from Google.
Anybody else noticed this? I have an unmodified Hero I got straight from Orange and the Market seems to be missing a lot of paid applications, the ones that use copy protection.

Can you give specific examples? Thus far, I've had no issues with paid apps with my Hero - had several on my G1 that I had to download again to my new phone.

Searching the Market for the apps mentioned on the earlier link, I can confirm that I can see some, but not all of them, an a T-Mobile G2.
I also noticed that I hadn't downloaded "DocumentsToGo" back onto my G1 (thought I had!) and when I tried it, I got the "Download Unsuccessful" message.
Regards,
Dave
I'm also missing apps on my T-Mobile G2. Can anyone else out there see the "Jack FM Live" app?
Nope I can't see that app.
The app I am missing is Battle for Mars. I have done the rounds ringing Orange and HTC to try and sort this out. Orange were fairly useless but finally just referred me over to HTC. HTC tried to claim there were different apps for different phones, but the example I gave them was Battle for Mars Lite was available, the paid for version was not available. They are meant to be ringing me back in 3-5 working days !?!! I will try and keep this thread posted. If anyone else has some news or can hassle Orange/HTC as well, I think that can only be a good thing and might push someone into sorting this mess out.
I can't find taskiller full - the free version is there but I want the one which has the full exclusion list. I've been in touch with the developer and he can see it in the market in France, although he thought that it may be due to waiting for google to review his account.
Guess it may actually be a similar problem to this. It's really frustrating because I would love to pay for the full version!
I've just got an unlocked hero that im using on o2. I can see the apps that others cannot, so maybe it's a network problem or related to the 'tinkering' networks like to do to phones before sending them.

That is really annoying - I can only see the free version using wireless or mobile data (standard T-Mobile G2 Touch, no root, not unlocked etc.). I'll let the developer know, it's really unfair that people who want to buy his app can't.
I can now see Taskiller full and Bluex which i havn't been able to see since i bought my hero, i have the Orange version of the phone.
checked earlier in the day and couldn't see taskiller full. I can now... I assume some back-end setting's been changed (whether it was a taskiller-full-specific thing the author did, or something google did centrally, I don't know)
Still can't see it on T-Mobile!

Same problems here, its really annoying. I really want the Bloo facebook app. The new 1.3 version is meant to be good .
Also on the topic of not being able to get stuff on this "open source OS".. WHERE is amazon mp3 uk . Can't take much for amazon/google to just shift the same program to access the uk mp3 store lol.
can confirm bloo 1.3a showing up for me(orange)
the guy who did http://www.cyrket.com/ mentioned apps appeared and disappeared due to sdk version checking. while i assume that isn't the issue here, maybe it's the same kind of thing? the hero's listed capabilities and the app's metadata are incompatible?
(tho why that would change just because it's sold by orange instead of t-mobile I don't know)
I was on CrunchGear a short while ago and I seen a video with the new Toshiba TG-01 running this cool software on there Windows Mobile phone that I hope can be ported b/c it's a very good app that can be useful in so many ways!! It's a voice translation software and I know I've seen mentions of this software wanted plenty of times on XDA!!
Here's the Link to it in action:
http://www.crunchgear.com (Under the video it's the 7 video to the right)
Hope someone with the phone can port it and cab it up for all of us to use!!!
WOW no ones interested in this at all??? very surprised!!!
I thought for sure people would jump on this... cause in all actuality we all can use this app in one form or another!! I really hope it gets ported!!!

Dude !!! I'm with you.....I'd give my left arm to get this app on the TP2........and I'm left-handed !!!!!!
wow! really? lol why not use the google translation software? the difference is that you type....
I would love to have this on my Tilt 2, if you're traveling on another country, no one is going to wait for you to type in google then translate and them figure out how to pronouce the translation!
I cant find the video you speak of. I went to Videos of CES, and the 7th one is about a motorola. Where the hell is this video?
EDIT- here is a link to some videos and its called "Toshiba Dynapocket". http://www.wmexperts.com/meet-toshiba-dynapocket-x02t-cameo-quentin-tarantino
http://www.toshiba-ad.jp/dynapocket/x02t/ <-- look here
I would assume that since its built off the Toshiba platform, that if we can somehow get a ROM from Japan, someone can extract it?
There are some other programs that do the same thing. Don't know how good any of them are.
Speereo Voice Translator
ECTACO Voice Translator

The latter one is discontinued.
Speereo Voice Translator is actually 16-language phrasebook with approx. 4000 phrases and idioms in each language. You can't just press the button and say a phrase though, you should pick the proper category first (like, "City", "Taxi").
SVT is bundled with several useful utilities, including size&measure converter, currency calculator, weather app, flight status app, e.t.c. to be all-in-1 solution for travelers.
I am very interested in this app for Tilt2.
Thank you
I'm glad to see this getting some attention finally!!! I think if we can get our hands on this software it could prove to be very useful and helpful!! I wish we knew someone who could get there hands on the rom at least... IDK but I hope this software lands here on xda for all of us to use!!!
c'mon guys this XDA how come we've yet to get this app?? and xda even has the phone on the site!!! this apps so cool!!

Hey man I checked all the japanese websites about the TG01 and X02T. TG01A has dictionaries but not voice translation...
There is no mention of the toshiba voice software in their data-sheet or roms.
I think you will be disappoint to know that software was only demoed during ces2009.
First I would like to say I have been looking through XDA for about three/four months now, but haven't posted anything. I had the HTC Leo (HD2) from T-Mobile, but did not have coverage in my area (plus, WM was a turn-off...lol). So I switched to AT&T and got the BlackBerry Torch. After about 20 days with it I got bored of the lack of "good" applications in App World. So I decided to get a Motorola BackFlip...but when I saw the Samsung Captivate, I was in love. I have been programming for well over six years, but about two years ago got into Java (for the BlackBerry development, I had a BB Storm at the time). Android application development is pretty similar to the BlackBerry's (as I expected), so I'm pretty confident in my programming skills with Android.
Enough of my introduction, my point is I would like to contribute to the XDA Community...to give back something from everything I've gotten. I have two ideas:
1) Get application ideas from the XDA Community, anyone that contributes will get the application for free.
2) Help out some project such as KiteUI, or start one myself.
All feedback is appreciated! Thank you for reading!
Welcome to forums
Nice introduction
Howdy, Nick. I'm trying to start a project myself, but I've had no takers so far. I'm hoping to find a developer here on XDA and get feedback and ideas through a beta release to the forums. Interested?

Outlook App fior Android (working on 1.5 on) and a sync app that doesn't rely on the cloud!
I would really appreciate the following:
1. Ability to change fonts within the phone without having to go into clockwork and flashing zips. Some fonts are too massive for a small screen end too much scrolling is required.
2. A good google reader app and widget.
3. Better email and lock screen apps and widgets. Unified email inbox would be extremely valuable.

Nice intro. Wish I had mad skills (or rather any skills, LOL).
Anywho, I would love to see an unread email widget(s) that can show unread count from any and all email clients available on android currently, specifically default email client & yahoo, and of course gmail. I would that you could customize the icons and optional text colors.
Something like the current SMS unread count available in the market, only better just an idea.

I have been looking for two apps...
1. A descent Facebook application with push notifications for messages tha unlike the original app, actually works.
2. I cant find any DeviantArt applications to see my own profile, in fact, i cant find ANY DeviantArt application. That would be neat
